- We are already counting down to the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku. We do that by looking back to recent editions of Europe's favorite TV show. This time we go to 2006, when the contest was held in Athens, Greece.
Lordi represented Finland in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Hard Rock Hallelujah'. They won the grand final in Athens and brought the contest to Helsinki in 2007. - บันเทิง

This song represents many things:
1.- First rock/metal song to win ESC
2.- Most points at that time (292)
3.- First victory for Finland after 45 years
And the good old days when Eurovision had balls. Good thing Måneskin and Blind Channel kind of brought back the balls to this contest this year, I'm optimistic for the future

Their microphones are not plugged in, but Mr Lordi’s. The background singing comes from the monk to the right as stand in, as per rule book all singing has to be performed live at ESC. Typically the background voice heard is the Drummer’s, at least up until his departure from the band in the 2010s.

Since it's Eurovision season again, I came back here to say this is still the best ESC performance ever. I haven't seen something so unique and different ever since.
Only many years later i realize how nobody is talking about the keyboard player, she kills it with the backing vocals.
That is because the backing vocals aren't hers -- the vocs are coming from the background singer, Pasi Rantanen (known from the band Thunderstone) 😊

@@Maltinis You would think it's a woman's voice, but no, that is a man's voice, and that man is Pasi Rantanen. He can sing very high notes. Mr. Lordi has revealed this fact about the vocals yeaaaaars ago in some interview or documentary (not sure which, because, like I said, it was years ago). It is only natural to assume that the vocals come from Awa (the female keyboard player) because the camera work emphasises that assumption through filming her whenever these backing vocals appear but yeah that was part of the show as well :) Just wanted to set the record straight.

The thing that often goes unsaid about this is that, despite it causing confusion at the time, the song is literally one of the most fitting songs ever performed at Eurovision. Instead of being some unrelated love ballad its whole premise is about how music can bring people (or demons and angels) together and put differences aside. That's the whole premise on which this contest was founded.

Actually the jury creates balance because ethnic groups more often prefer their mother country (just analyze audience votes over the years). Therefore smaller or less populous countries like Finland benefit from the jury. Russia nearly won that year with a song probably no one here remembers.
In France, both french commentators were just joking about this performance with condescending comments.
