On my current printer that I am not fond of, the one thing I do like is the PEI bed. I never use glue, I never use rafts, I never use brim, all I do is use 1 skirt just to get the filament flowing. I also always use eSun PLA+ at 215 and bed at 60 Degrees.
Yes, as I've been using it, there are some nice features, most of which could be added to other printers. The removable bed really is nice, with a couple of pins at the back to allow easy alignment before you snap it down. I could wish those pins were a bit taller, but really a good idea. The quick heat ceramic head is nice as well. Both of those could be added to just about any other printer out there though. The speed is impressive, and that's the one thing I think is unique to this new series of printers. The built in camera's nice, but I had an external security cam I always used, so didn't really need it. Beyond the out-of-the-box quality issues, the big disappointment so far is the apparent lack of any of the AI/lidar/smart features working. Otherwise, I've been pretty happy with the quality of the prints I've been getting, although they aren't significantly better than what I used to get on the Robo 3D. But they do come off faster!
It depends on what you print. I normally dont do brim or skirt but when I do dragon with tons of small legs, I have to. I never use raft, I dont understand why anyone would use a raft.
You have the older extruder, look into updating it (the new one have a white collar instead of the black one and it doesnt have that blue lock anymore), also check the hotend the silicon should be different from the black one to be the updated version (which yours look to be the updated one) I had some issues on the bed levelling and did some mods and used some persuasion to skip some teeths to get a better bed level I dont use glue as well but put a 3d print bed spray to protect the bed and it worked well with basically everything. I just use isopropyl alcohol and wipe it between prints.
The pause in the leveling was probably it heating the bed first. Unfortunately this printer does look like it was used to me :-( I was going to get an FT6 until I seen your struggles all those years ago. For a long while I have been using a 400 x 400 x 700 IDEX printer, but the BJL leveling sucks and it is only on one extruder, so making it work with support material is a headache. Right now I am ready for an upgrade, just a 400 x 2000 x 500, with 2 in 1 out direct drive head and with proper auto leveling so I can print my 6 ft sound bars and projects in one go :-)
I've generally had good luck with it and had good results. The AI stuff is still pretty much worthless for detecting failed prints and instead it will occasionally cause problems when there's nothing on the bed. I've also had a few occasions where the filament has broken between the extruder and runout sensor (as well as where I've forgotten to clamp the extruder) and the AI will happily let the printer print air for hours without detecting there's a problem. At the other end, I had one crash of the firmware that upon rebooting must have left things in a non-ideal state because it gouged the front corner and side of the bed dragging the head through it before I quickly powered it off again. Beyond that, I've been pleased with the results and the speed for the most part.
@@lordbeowulf1885 Appreciate your fast response, I heard the reason for the printer gouging was supposed to be fixed in a firmware update. Also I noticed fro m your video the two items you were missing with your toolkit was the grease and glue stick. I'm sorry you had to deal with all that in your unboxing. I probably would of returned it cause it did seem to look used.
@@OldandFatExploration Thanks for the info. I'll have to check if there's another firmware update. Matter Hackers did send me the updated extruder part @bosmak had mentioned, but I have yet to install it. Haven't really had any problems there. The one comment I'll give on the K2 plus is that I wouldn't spring for that until I knew a lot more about the approach to multi-filament support. I bought the K1 Max over the Bambu Lab X1-Carbon Combo, largely because of the bigger build volume, but also with the thought that I could add a Palette 3 for filament swapping. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, when I started researching the Palette, it wasn't very highly reviewed. Apparently, among other things, it's really noisy. So while it was on sale cheap at the time I was looking at it, I decided to pass. Maybe one day!
Great vido ! But it Seems to me like you really did get the one machine that they werent supposed to sell and was laying down forgotten in the warehouse 😢 anyway what are your thoughts on this machine ? Im really considering purchase of one of those for my self ! Id like to see a bit of feetback on how its printing and overall opinion on the machine. Thanks ! Btw tip with the ghosting, put the printer on more stable surfice and then run input shaper once again. It should eliminate the ghosting you showed at the end of the video 😉🤘
That seems unlikely since these are pretty new, so not likely to have any extras sitting around. At this point I think it just didn't get packed right. I'm guessing that cat shaped mar mark on the top is probably from a robotic packer system, but it is really odd that it would do that. As I just mentioned to @10p6, overall I'm getting good results out of it, so all else being equal, the speed is nice. That said, it did make me a bit nervous yesterday in the middle of my long multi-part print when it made some BRRRRR noises in the middle of a couple of the layers I was monitoring during the print. I would normally associate that sound with a stepper slipping poles as it bound up on something, but it never lost position, so maybe it was something unusual in the slice. I guess the big question is if I would buy it again under the circumstances. At the moment I'm leaning towards yes. I'll probably post a short video on a project I'm working on that I printed about a dozen parts in one print last night, so watch for that. That was close to an eight hour print. Oh, and thanks for the suggestion on recalibrating. That's a good idea. I have it on a more stable surface now, so I'll give that a shot. May try some before and after prints.

Hah! Not asking for much there, are you? 😁 You forgot to mention "for under $1000" too! Let me know if you find it. Good to hear from you.
Would you recommend the K1 Max now? Just curious since the K2 plus is coming out
