I actually love the animated emoji. Randomly sent a crying emoji and didnt know the thing would start actually crying lol just a random cute thing to have in your texts.
But does the person you sent 📤 it to see's the animation
@@MegaSolopoloif they don't have an iPhone, otherwise it's just a static emoji
yeah animated emojis are really cool imo, Microsoft teams had them for a while now
I wish it wouldn't animate the entire time though. It should play the animation once or twice, then stop, then only play again if you click that message.
Unfortunately for video boost, you have to record in the specific mode, you can't switch later. It is available on my pixel and it's absolutely mind blowing.
Shame it takes ages tho
@@TheChameleon2008
It'll only get faster as Google continuously updates its servers.
One tip with video boost for daylight shooting and high dynamic range video is to lower exposure by 1-1.5 big ticks for better highlights and contrast.
@@TheChameleon2008if only Google actually used the tensor chip and Npu in it to speed things up...
@@freddybell8328 with P8 Pro it seems that it no longer allows to lock exposure by tapping and holding on the screen, like it was before, with that yellow square appearing.
I tried video boost last night when it started snowing. Results were pretty damn good!
I'd like to try the feature too, but I won't be upgrading from the Pixel 7 pro to the 8 pro. It's a shame Google didn't make the feature available for more devices. (However, it's understandable because everything runs on their servers.)
@@herobrain4445 give it 6-12 months and it will trickle down to our older phones, I bet.
@@herobrain4445I think they would, just give them time, the video boost doesn't do much with the phone's hardware, so I guess it will be rolling over to other pixel devices
@@2COLD118eh it requires data that only the 8 Series Sensor can get, won't think it will be for P7 and P6 Series
Repair mode is such a no brainer and also important feature.
@Marques @3:30 If I recall correctly, the auto info/auto picture for new contacts you're thinking of was mostly because of Google+. A couple of years after Google+ was released, Google used it as a "main hub" (quoting you, Marques) that connected all their services and apps, Gmail, TH-cam, Android, Contacts, etc and since having or creating a Gmail account was required, you were forced to basically create a G+ account if you owned an Android device. Your G+ info, phone number, email address, business, TH-cam channel, and if you customized it to do it your home address and all that info along with your G+ profile pic was used by default when adding people to the Contacts app. Contacts would pull all that info and establish your Contacts and even go as far as linking the person to their G+ account sometimes. Now that G+ is gone, Contacts just does a broad and generalized Google search and if your number is affiliated with a TH-cam account that you own etc. it would create a default Contact picture based on that. G+ legacy is still around.
Regarding Watch Unlock: Smart Unlock with the trusted Bluetooth devices was already a thing and worked with Pixel Watch (or any Bluetooth device) by *keeping your phone unlocked* when it was connected for something like up to four hours. Watch Unlock replaces that if you turn it on and is a *lot* better. Your phone is actually locked, and will unlock on demand if your watch is on your wrist and VERY near the phone, closer than just “connected nearby.” It also notifies you on your watch as it unlocks, and let's you one-tap the watch to re-lock in case of theft or whatever. So a whole lot better and I think more similar to Apple Watch/iPhone.
I guess it's nice to have
Yes it feels a lot better and mentally I feel a lot more comfortable with it (never used the old bluetooth way).
Been using it since a few days now and tried a bit to see when it let it unlock.
Stretched my arms all the way, didn't unlock, pulled them slowly closer and suddenly it unlocked automatically. Did it over and over, always around the same spot which is ~1,5m (~59 inches).
So much better than the bluetooth way where I could leave my phone in another room and it will just be unlocked.
Lol, Marques' facial expressions while listening to all the goofy emoji based features... 😂 Couldn't agree with him more. My eyes glaze over when I hear stuff like this. 😆
This goes to show why this bouncing off multiple people works so well, as I'm zoning out on heavy emoji use, so appreciate some honesty/empathy from Marques ! in bringing in me along. I think the roll eyes basic face is the top/default here!
1:47 OH MY GOD I am the one who invented this idea 3 years ago for a Stanford startup I was working at!
Please give us the blind smartphone camera test
Repair mode need to be able to initialized remotely from the web browser berceuse sometimes the screen is cracked and just can't see what you're doing! 💡
I got Video Boost working on my Pixel 8 Pro, if you don't have it yet, try clearing the cache for your camera and restarting it. Though I think their servers are horribly backed up, I took a 20 second video yesterday at 6am just to test it, and I didn't get the boosted video until 6am today. I don't see how they could roll this out to more devices without a massive boost to their server hardware.
The watch unlock works better and differently than the extended unlock which is available by default in android
Those mood messages feature can be _very_ useful
Getting nuances is hard as is, it gets harder if you have auditory understanding issues or are just learning the language the other is using
I still don't have this or the profiles on my p8 pro with messages beta
How did David get the moon crater Apple logo on his laptop?
Wow mkbhd was featured on that tech review @whatphoto channel. Amazing 😢😅😂😂
Try the video boost with an iPhone video. I want to see something 😂
I was wondering, Google uses tensor processor because of their AI capabilities, but in order to use video boost feature you have to send your video to Google servers? Could Google do the same locally if it used a more powerful chip like SD 8 Gen 3, which also has AI capabilities?
Probably, yes, but for the time it takes for one picture, it would be long to process.
And the problem with this kind of processes is that the SoC, when used very often very intensively for quite long amount of time, deteriorates faster. It would be like if you were playing intensives games daily for hours…
In addition, the power used for this task would globally slow down the whole phone and heating it up slowly.
So, it would be that or letting running it in low-power-mode…which could make it last days…and that's not very good as well… or letting servers made for that doing it for you.
@@clementhardy I see your point, but I'm guessing Google will eventually inbuilt this feature on their pixel lineup so it can be used on the fly while you're recording video with the option enabled. Which means more processing power needed. Will it take one, two or more years? I don't know but will definitely happen!
@@brunvski Probably will happen, yes. But I think it would more be about optimizing the code than about improving performances.
@@brunvski It depends on what kind of model they're running on the backend. It could well be that the model is too large to fit on an edge device.
@@clementhardythat's reasonable, I'm hoping they improve on their hardware where everything can be done on the phone with no need for cloud processing as it's going to be more convenient than waiting hours after taking a video, I hate features that needs a wifi connection to work, but the video boost is a great feature for people who won't mind the time taken
Those oh no's from Marques... HAHA!!
Out of curiosity, what's buggy about it? 8:33
Mine works perfectly fine for what I use it for, which is mostly watching videos, browsing & occasionally streaming Xbox games.
Totally agree, I use my pixel table all days, and almost all day... And it works so so so well... What's he talking about?
Team Pixel things are happening ---- Pixie AI 😮😮😮😮😮
I'm still waiting for android to have bit perfect audio built in with support for 96khz hi res instead of the audio being down sampled to 48khz unless you use an app like usb audio player pro for bit perfect audio. I hope google will update youtube for support for pcm lossless and even uncompressed wav 16 bit 44.1 khz cd quality for the bare minimum as an option audio for audio as well as 96khz flac lossless audio. For lossless video for video formats like png and tiff. Also have these options available to use when being connected to wifi as an option for limited data plans or when there is limited bandwidth.
talking about CONTACT iphone has the same contact with letter since the start, why that they never update it to show photo on contact but only on faverite? older people will be see better with photo contact rather than just lettter
Can't wait until my pixel 15 has the processing power to enhance videos like that locally
Btw that's false about uploading an old video to have video boost. You have to force video boost prior to recording the video... otherwise it would not get uploaded for video boost. I have the feature for a few days and while it's pretty good, there are quite a few limitations.
Proof that they starve Marques during the shoots
The problem with RCS it doesn't automatically send to SMS when internet is not available, or the second person does not have internet, it's discusting since some txt are very important, if you send and after 5hours it gives you notification that txt has fail you have to send as normal txt, why???
imassage is very good in this regard
I don't have this problem on my pixel 7 pro. It falls back to SMS for me if the other user doesn't have RCS. I'm in a regular group chat with iMessage users from the Google Messages app and everything is great on my end even tho my messages are routed to SMS so I'm sure any reacts I'm doing look silly on their end
@@dyscotopia
If the user doesn't have RCS it falls to SMS for me also
The problem is if someone has RCS and is not online for some reason,
Mind you i live in Africa where the internet to some people is an occasional thing, either low on bundle or someone wants to preserve battery
Imagine sending an important txt for that particular time and someone doesn't receive it on time because of the changes
Apple's imessage deals with it professionally
@@lifeonearth94 thank you for pointing out to me my privilege as a Canadian. I'd never thought of that. Internet lapses for me but never more than a minute or two. and using WhatsApp or Signal or Telegram isn't a solution without it. I hope someone brings this up with google so if a message goes undelivered due not to lack of RCS but lack of connectivity there's a failsafe. Of course, if the carriers adopted RCS this wouldn't be a problem, so it's not all on Goog
Video starts at 4:02
is the pixel tablet really that buggy? im considering getting one but im worried now
no my pixel tablet is smooth but I don't play games on it
I bought it a week ago or so (Black Friday) and used it regularly.
I made a shocked emoji face when I heard him saying it was buggy…because that wasn't my experience at all.
I don't know for others or for a longer period of time but, in my case, it was - except for the 60Hz panel - "buttery smooth".
Not at all. My one runs smooth. I use it for watching movies/TH-cam however.
Totally desagree, I use my pixel table every day, and almost all day... And it works so so so well... What's he talking about?
Mine works great, though I don't use it for anything intense (gaming, etc).
Seriously, is the US either RCS or iMessage? What about 3rd party messaging apps?
2:27 HAHAHAHHAAHAHH
Marques Chadlee is pretty good.
id really like google to integrate portrait mode for video thats one thing apple has that im kinda jealous about.
They’ve had that since the Pixel 5. It’s in my Pixel 7 camera app as Blur, and well, it’s not great.
Cinematic mode seems to do this for me on my pixel 7 pro. I think it looks pretty🎉 good if you don't whip the camera around too much. The blur mode works in more lighting conditions
Note that cinematic option only shows up when there's enough light.
Just like how you have to have the phone stabilized for astrophotography mode
5:50 the one thing I don’t like about night shift is the SKY IS NOT DARK. I WANT THE SKY TO BE DARK.
You need to go into manual controls (bottom right) while shooting and reduce exposure. This will likely yield the results you want.
If it's HDR you're shooting, with or without video boost, definitely use this all the time. Lower exposure by 1-1.5 ticks as a starting point and go from there to see if that's enough.
Firms should be banned to "marketing" things if they are not fully ready. or at least put a time limit (i.e., cannot market things unless within XX months, or something like that). remember the 'airpower' from Apple?
otherwise becomes toxic hype machine
Marques being uninterested in "exciting" new features. More of this, please.
What happened to Andrew? He's no longer there.
Skip to 4 mins in to where they actually talk about Video Boost
They should have gaming features that let you to play multiplayer games, similar to iMessage games.
probably figuring out a way to do ot without catching a lawsuit
@@davidohaegbulam9988 really, how?
HE'S DYINGG???
I don’t use snickers
7:02 this is not true.
What so special in iMessage
Video Boost doesn't look that amazing to me so far
Hi Love
They should give vid boost to pixel 8 too 😑
BREAKING NEWS: TH-camR MARQUES IS DYING(OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED IN WAVEFORM CHANNEL)
I love the way the apple fan boy can all out everything apple did 1st but can't do the same when android did it 1st .. it's like apple but not as great and apple did this ... While android just crap on apple all day with features..
Things Google think we'll all need, but no one really needs or cares about !
Using the awesome cameras from my pixel 7 pro as a webcam over the potato on my computer is something I care about
Cancelled my Pixel 8 Pro order today. Just can’t leave iOS as much as I want to.
Why?
Why not have both? Marques does.
Well, two personal phones is dumb. Especially now SIM cards are gone and I have to call in order to move the line. Other reason is having a watch, iOS, Mac, AirPods, AirTags, iPad, love CarPlay. Use FaceTime a lot, Apple Cash with my kid, ability to send large files in iMessage…..I risk losing all of that. I won’t be gaining more than I’m losing. Even if the phone is “better” than my 15 PM.
