How big are Surf Maps actually?

- How big are surf-maps actually, compared to normal-sized maps in Counter Strike Source or Global Offensive. Also looking at some real-world units to get a better idea, because Hammer can be tricky at times (all the time), especially when it comes to consistency in the conversion. Btw, in the CSGO world, the ramps would measure in bigger than in CSS. Make it make sense.
Apologies for the transparency issues, just an absolute pain to get rid of all of them. I can only see the problems after render. So i didn't bother :P
CSS maps cuz they are easier on the PC. Source2 import into Blender is not well optimized.
Hope you still enjoyed it.

Without a banana for scale next to the human model I'm completely lost
He sat on the banana 🍌
Meme older than some people watching this video
now i wanna plug into VR just to get a sense of how massive these are
Man, your videomaking skills are insane. Keep up the amazing work, and hopefully you'll get some more exposure :)
Dude this is one of the best videos about surf I have ever seen, reminds me of these size comparison videos where it starts small and then goes all the way up to galaxies (the galaxy in this case would be an analogy for a full surf map in the hammer grid).
I personally have never thought about the scale of a surf map, since I spent my time surfing them, not walking on them, but this really puts it into perspective. When I played CS:GO/CS2 on maps like Dust2 or Mirage, I never realised how much less of the hammer grid they actually use. Really makes you think how some surf mappers fit their maps into the restraints of the grid, im certain some people just know black hammer magic xd
Seeing surf maps from the outside makes them look like some sort of mechanism
many surf maps have very "ominous" feeling to them anyway. you dont think about it cuz its just fun but when u look from a distance (and outside) it really does make it feel like that
Fantastic job, I especially liked those clips showing just how big the last jump on overgrowth2 is
for some reason seeing ravine from above was incredibly cool. not much overhead stuff going on there so you can really appreciate the routing and ramp placements. This video, your videos, and your deeper dives into technical parts of surf as a game-mode are extremely interesting. Please continue exploring and share your findings!
Bro this video was so nice. Keep up this kind of content and your channel will blow up!
I have thought about this. Like how big omnific must be hahah. Very cool and very well put together
It would probably surprise people how much of the grid is dead space in omnific. Maps like overgrowth and vast definitely use up more grid space.
Wait until he discovers ze maps
Insanely cool vid, I always thought about making a surf_mirage linear map, where you can surf through the whole map, but seems like it would have to be a mirage^3 map to surf anywhere above 100u/s! Great video again (:
Nice video, very well made and super cool. One thing that would have helped me with the scale of whole maps would be like a tall international landmark, like the Burj Dubai or World Trade Center or something. I feel like the maps would compare favorably to one of those but once we got away from the T model it was hard to tell how tall they really could be.
This video felt like a fever dream
crazy production quality keep it up
these ideas really bring something else to the surf community! Sick job as always
Love your videos, would've been very cool to see surf_gradient layed out like that, that map is HUGE
Very impressive video, I hope we get to see more
never seen such a video idea on surf maps, thanks for making me stunned
U deserve way more subs top tier content
This video is gonna get 200k views, trust me
Damn! Super interesting and great watch. Thank you
Good work on the editing! Made the video rly enjoyable
sick
i once played with the thought and tried out to put dust2 in the final room of perihelion... it was tiny xd
i have also made a kz map once, its about 2min long and its pretty much just the size of one of the shorter ramps on peri xd
overgroth2 is litterally my absolut favourite surf map.
This is really really well done man.
Now imagine just normally walking around a surf map. Todd would be happy by the size
surf science :) great video
Good Video man keep it up
my goat has only gone and done it
would have loved to see scale accurate models of real life buildings in this video
great video man
i mean why would you expect scale to be consistent across different games, theyre different games
They should just use metric at this point
Now this is content! great stuff
this is awesome
Insane video
nice vid, curious what a map like arcane would look like, maybe a future vid idea
6:15
overgrowth looks like some sort of backrooms structure
how is this a work of a 500 sub channel
0:45 short kings
Very cool.
fun concept!! too bad that there aren't really any surf maps utilizing the larger grid limits in momentum mod yet, even overgrowth2 would look tiny in comparison to that
Shouldve done at least one football field comparison
What a video you don’t get a sense on scale at all when surfing maybe because of the speed. Would love to see the crazy showcase of how big maps could go in momentum mod in the line up against these maps and ramps
you might be the first smart surfer
Awesome video
good stuff
600th sub, remember me in 1-2 years when yu got a mil ;)
Good job
Nice vid bud
this was cool
W content
So good
Wow
Ok that’s large
Best video
🔥
not to mention you're going 50 m/s lol
W video
There are bigger ramps.
danish
Bro what you saying ... 72 units is the height of all playermodels in all versions of source engine... Anyone can just open up hammer and can check it
72 in CSGO and CS2, 62 in CSS.
@@iDaxen i would like to give you a very clear screen or video
