Oh my god yes! Man, I miss playing those maps on comp so much. I've always been drawn to weird, unpopular features and maps in games. Like hiding in the ceiling on Militia 😄
Season had lots of problems, but the biggest complicating factor IMO is Molotovs. A lot of maps in CSS (season, contra, russka -- all 3 of my favourite maps lol) had tons of tight choke points and fairly long rotations. when you have a game with just smokes (and extremely overpowered flashes) you can deal with that. your opponents probably will run out of utility before around the time you might go for a retake, and worst case you can flash through the smoke if you need to. Once you add Molotovs, a ton of interactions that would be "fine," are now extremely problematic. On a site take your opponents might be able to replace what used to be a 100% necessary smoke with a Molotov instead, then delay until your rotates get there and use that saved smoke to block the choke points that are honestly too important to retake without utilizing. Jail on season is probably the best example of this. you could Molotov off the entire mid-b rotate (often 2, even 3 players) for the execute, then smoke them off for the retake. Not only was jail insanely important for a quick rotate, but basically 100% necessary for any retake at all, given the other options would be heaven (insane number of angles you have to clear to get out of) and ... the longest flank in the entire game. Tuscan I think had a lot more potential, but is a map that requires CT aggression to function properly which takes a lot of time and effort to get used to, and players really weren't ready for it, imo. There were similar interactions with Molotov and tight choke points in positions like Mid which required the map to be re-thought a little bit, but with a few adjustments it probably could've turned into a functional map. I don't think the same is true with season -- they would likely have to heavily adjust the layout before moving on to the other small but serious problems it had
Probably something to think about maybe a different nade limit per map (ie. Lots of nades for maps as de_inferno and less on different maps).could also affect metas in a strong way
Season was so underrated back then, i wish it was still available today. I loved it, and i missed it after the Bloodhound operation. Hopefully it’ll be available again

I really hope they add not only their own maps, but also a community map with each operation... and KEEP THEM IN THE COMP MAP POOL!!! Prime should probably stay limited to a smaller amount of maps, simply because it's already hard enough for most players to memorize the nades and angles of like 3 maps, let alone more than 7 lol. Excellent video as always Mr. CS2.
well, they added a rank for each comp map, which imo, is beyond stupid. this now means that there's way too much inertia behind each map. competitive, versus premiere, should be a 5v5 queue with MMR and more maps, especially hostage maps like workout. but they probably won't.

Minor feedback, at 4:41 it would have been nice if the map pictures were from the version of the map that was present at the time (for example you use the modern versions of d2, inferno, and nuke)
Seeing this video after some months of not playing cs (mainly due to the deletion of unranked and my friends getting better at the game) was so nostalgic. I remember maining tuscan with my friends when they still were silver 1s. I also remembered a lot of the maps of late cs:go, and I love even the worst ones. I also remember getting introduced to the game by my friend, seeing hive (at least that was the name on signs everywhere), and some lake ripoff with a lot of breakable glass, where my friend showed me the zeus.
People claim they want new maps but then refuse to learn them and immediately call the maps shit if they dont drop 30 kills on their first matches on the map. We STILL have people that refuse to learn ancient and anubis when its been years already.
What I don't like with Anubis is that it's yet another dust/sand-themed map. At least do an overhaul to Mirage like their previously planned Eastern European style of Mirage. Train is still not returning, Cache is still under development, Cobblestone is unknown, Canal is a lost hope waiting for the return, at least please give us some other non-dusty maps to play with.
That Insertion map should be the new standard for the Hostage Rescue mode. Being able to drop in different places and then slowly sneak to rescue the hostages is a great experience.
I think a new map after every major would be great. BUT once a map is in the pool it can't be replaced until every other map in the pool has. Therefore once a map is added its added for 3.5 years (assuming 2 majors a year, evenly distributed). This would force pros to adopt the new maps early on into their life, they could easily be learnt in the tournament break that is expected to be come standard after each cs2 major. Given that this would now be a scheduled event, Valve would have two options: A. announce the map ahead of the major (perhaps at Cologne/Katowice respectively) to allow for analysts/youtubers/coaches to start theorising about its use in pro play B. announce the map AT the major and play the showmatch on it. Then teams would be expected to work on it during the tournament break post-major and come into the new season with whatever they've come up with. Of course some would just permaban it but with it being guaranteed to stay in the pool for 3.5 years, whilst every map you already like slowly gets replaced, this would be shortsited from pros.
We need a bigger casual map pool. not everyone is a pro. we just want to have fun. This obsession with competitive is slowly killing the games base; Casual players.
9 map pool, 2 maps switches per year (every six months) and letting people know beforehand what maps will change next time. I just think this would be the best outcome as you’d have more maps to choose from and you’ll be able to know and prepare for the next ones
I've been playing CS since about 2017 on and off. I've really got into the game with CS2. These videos are super interesting because I get to see a side of the game I'd otherwise have no idea of.
A first in first out map cycle would be amazing, every map would get like 3.5 years in the pool before it gets rotated out, that's plenty of time for a map to get figured out and played at a high level. I think they should also maybe try to stagger between adding in completely new maps and maps that have already been in the pool -- if we didn't do this, every 3.5 years we'd have 7 maps that have already moved in and out of the pool, and it really seems like a waste to let them rot like that.
changing maps once a year is the best way to do it for pro play. imagine being told half way through the season your teams best map just got swapped for one u have never played
Season was my favorite map, all the way from when me and some friends were doing scrims in CSS. It really deserves some time in the spotlight again. I played the living daylights out of it when the operations were on. - It was introduced back with Operation Vanguard, and re-introduced with Operation Bloodhound. Tuscan as well. I had so many good memories from playing on it. No idea why Valve chose Anubis to be the default addition to CS2, and leave Tuscan behind, despite revamping it to that extent. Don't get me wrong, Anubis is a fine map (not the greatest IMO). It gets the job done, of being a good Dust replacement, but for me, Tuscan was the better one of the two. Some other maps that deserves honorable mentions are: Santorini, Seaside, Zoo and Agency (arguably the best hostage map in the history of CS)
I love season. I absolutely loved its aesthetic cause it’s kinda similar to vertigo but unlike vertigo, it plays better and doesn’t have headshot angles everywhere.
what they could do is the following, 7 map pool but every week they rotate the premier maps, by removing 2 and adding 2 in a queue way like there are like like lots of competitive maps and every week the 2 oldest are removed and 2 new enter, so every map has a 4 weeks in the map pool and 4 weeks off .also they could remove 1 map per year to rework and introduce a new one that year like they are doing. all maps would be available in competitive all the time, just in the premier mode the rotation would take place. this way they could experiment with maps and see what maps are played more . this would also give tournment events to customize their cup with the 7 maps they choose , or they could ask for team to vote the 7 maps they want in the tournment. I also think pro teams could also choose a map that fits their gamestyle. something like football stadiums each team has their own. i dunno.
One map exchanged after every major would be nice. I kinda like the idea of a 9 map pool but even tier 1 teams struggle to excel nowadays so that might just result in a lower level of play..
I think it's important to note that in cs2 cache has been completely rotated out instead of remade & been replaced with maps like anubis and ancient which are fully valve owned. There's a chance cache could come back, but it's intentional that they didn't add it at launch
I honestly wish that Valve would improve custom-map exposure by allowing for "custom leagues" with a custom map pool. It shouldn't be the case that perfectly good maps languish unplayed just because there's no good way to match make on a set of community maps. Especially now that there's per-map ranking instead of general ranking, it feels like having better workshop match making would solve some of these problems (especially if there was a discovery queue, as in match make me with any other players for any workshop map, so a catch all of all workshop maps.) You could also match make for any of your subscribed maps or within a specific steam group.
I loved Tuscan and I really think the only reason it didn’t stay or even get that popular was because it wasn’t in active duty. I also really liked Austria.
I wish you would've made some concise kliksphilip style direct comparisons of de_season and it's versions so people who don't remember can get a better reminder instead of being told some technical lingo of some esoteric details only people who remember well or people who are already extremely invested in CS level design would recognize and reminisce on. Apart from that, good video.
I feel like it would be a missed opportunity to not change the map pool entirely every season. You can have 2-3 map pools or varieties between those that rotate every season. Although we don't know how premier seasons will work out seeing as we are still in the first one.
I do think it would be sick if we gave the map pool 2 more maps and then just increased the bans making the variety of 'favorited' maps more interesting and the 3rd map even more of a wildcard. Also adding more bans still allows teams to have 2 permabans.
I think the pro gaming scene should not be considered too much. In the end, its a game people want to enjoy. They should just add rotating community maps as well for people to try out.
Imho we didnt get tuscan in the pro pool because anubis largly overshadowed it. It may gets the chance somewhen, but it needs good amount of changes to be a good map
When watching this map not for ancient highlights for the first time, I realise that i see some similarities to Valorant's Ascend, some areas have attack/defend or general orientation rotated differently
Season is great and I really hope to see it back but I think Tuscan is better suited as a map like Italy more centered around casual or for fun comp, but not premiere or pro play
I know Valve wants to create "look, I'm a pro" effect in players, but maybe the map pool for casual competitive should be different than the one on big tournaments? Maybe everyone should play 2 more maps in pool just to let community test them?
The problem of season is that it is more like a five line map instead of a three lane one. The map is really big for 5v5. I still like and enjoy it for deathmatch and casual gameplay.
A map pool increase would probably lower the quality of games overall and lead to more underdogs surprise wins, because Team XYZ trained de_tuscan since 5 years and beats FAZE to it in an RMR or something like that. To me, this last point would be somewhat okay, as over the longer run, better teams will always get to the top. The bigger problem I see in the overall quality sinking, as even top calibre teams will have to gamble somewhat and not be as refined on some maps as on others. And "just train all of them" is not an option, was we already see with the current map pool. Shifting the maps more often is the more elegant solution to the issue, in my opinion. Whether one after each Major is enough... can be debated. Maybe that and then one additional during winter break. Or two after each major. In summary, I think more change in the map pool is something that is strongly requested and should come rather sooner than later. But I don't give a shit if they release an Operation!!!!!
it's always bugged me how few community servers there are hosting more niche maps for 5v5 (or even casual). really would like to see that change, although it probably won't. seems like community servers are mostly (besides surf/kz) just resigned to a handful of identical DM/warmup servers anymore. it wasn't a ton better in GO but there were at least usually a few active 5v5 servers or some more retakes servers to pick from.
Theres alot of talk about the active duty pool, but that shouldnt be the only and ultimate goal of a map. Active duty is only really relevant to the pro scene, and now in CS2 you have premier. The whole casual, competitive, and custom gamemodes are open for new maps that the majority of the playerbase can enjoy, while keeping the pro scene happy since they hate change. What I'm saying is Valve has a complete new canvas on their hands with CS2, and copying 1 to 1 what they did in CSGO might not be the best course of action. Put more maps in the game, in different gamemodes, give incentives to players in order to play them wether its xp or drop based, curate a revolving list of maps (monthly/quartely?) and if all goes well, we can talk about premier and the pro scene. There are alot of talented mapmakers that make great maps, and if Valve dont use them they will waste a big opportunity for their new title

Got a few good sessions on Season in community servers on CS2. Map is so fun and looks great!
I loved Tuscan and I really think the only reason it didn’t stay or even get that popular was because it wasn’t in active duty. I also really liked Austria.
Season was great
B was easier to take and harder to hold, A was the opposite. I really miss it, especially the random fights in the vents
Meanwhile Gui is waiting on Assault
I do think it would be sick if we gave the map pool 2 more maps and then just increased the bans making the variety of 'favorited' maps more interesting and the 3rd map even more of a wildcard. Also adding more bans still allows teams to have 2 permabans.
I still miss cobblestone
hOPE to see Tuscan. When it was released my friends played a lot only that map bc of those ol days of pcw.
10:00 what map is that
1:07 that is so true that it hurts
They should have another set if maps not for the pro scene but a rotation system every season to showcase what the gems on the workshop.
Season was and continues to be my favorite map
I think the pro gaming scene should not be considered too much. In the end, its a game people want to enjoy. They should just add rotating community maps as well for people to try out.
Imho we didnt get tuscan in the pro pool because anubis largly overshadowed it. It may gets the chance somewhen, but it needs good amount of changes to be a good map
Wasn't canals one of those maps valve had tried to make into a competitive play map, kinda like what they did with vertigo?
When watching this map not for ancient highlights for the first time, I realise that i see some similarities to Valorant's Ascend, some areas have attack/defend or general orientation rotated differently
Crazy how I never played any of theses map even tho I started playing in 2016
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! talk about wingman maps like rialto and also maps like engage
Season is great and I really hope to see it back but I think Tuscan is better suited as a map like Italy more centered around casual or for fun comp, but not premiere or pro play
Bring back the classic hostage maps, at least for casual. It's brutal only having office and italy.
now with the finals in blast being bo5 maybe thats a hint they are considering 9 mall pool in the future
I know Valve wants to create "look, I'm a pro" effect in players, but maybe the map pool for casual competitive should be different than the one on big tournaments? Maybe everyone should play 2 more maps in pool just to let community test them?
What a banger video love the vibe W
"Unregistered HyperCam 2"
I miss Season, it was such a fun map.
hope they bring back tuscan
played like 300+ matches in CS:GO
fun to play both ct and t
simple layout, comfort duels
Most underrated map of all time? Lite. Lite went SO HARD and if they just called it Cache 2 I guarantee you it would still be popular today.
great cs content + good choice in tekken soundtrack = i subscribe
i miss tuscan und season so much
