That is the most beautiful chalk line tool I have ever seen. And, based on what I learned of the technology it uses, it is better than the normal chalk line tool normally used here in the States. Permanent ink saturated cotton line run through wetted fibrous wadding. And totally a sign of the craftsman carpenter's pride in his work.
I am so sad to hear this. This film of Mr Tamaki was great gift to humanity, and I so appreciate that the film-maker did such a beautiful job, respectfully portraying a humble master at work!
What a wonderful demonstration of craftsmanship, patience, and artistic expression for a basic functioning tool!! Remarkable! Despite my fascination with the work and the process, I found myself coming back to thinking about having to sharpen all those chisels!
The skill of this carver is incredible. I believe it is also important to recognize the skill of the videographer who recorded this (very clearly!), and to thank whoever created this program to record and share the skills of such artists and craftsmen. Thank you all
Don't get me wrong the craftsmanship is incredible but with things like chalkline and laser guides it makes sense why these type of things are highly sought after anymore.
There is a surplus of material needed in order to carve from. There’s probably cheap plastic versions of these but some people buy tools not to use but to collect.
@@trappenweisseguy27 That’s what I thought, if they were to be used they would take a lot of space in a carpenters tool box IMHO. I wish they would show the “not collectible” ones but traditional as well.
The Japanese hate to break tradition, so even the modern versions of these are probably much bigger than our chalk lines. I used to be a carpenter and had a chalk line (Stanley ?) that was shaped like a plumb bob and could even be used as one in a pinch. The elaborate carving and decoration here ($$$) is likely to only be appreciated by collectors or enthusiasts. Someone up above said that this fellow has unfortunately passed on. Many trades like this in Japan are dying out because these guys die and the young people aren’t willing to toil away for years in order to barely scrape by. An apprentice to a man like this would traditionally spend his first couple of years unpaid making tea and learning how to sharpen the tools before being trusted to do anything else. Not a lot of young Japanese are willing to do that now.
... Turtle and crane, "to stop short in the hope of not falling short." (...really I have no clue, that's just what pops into my head with the piece.) Thank you for the post, absolutely beautiful.
Beautiful ink line.... Form over function though bit over the top. Only £5,000 Cheap at half the price. Any idea where I'll get one? Imagine taking one of those to work and someone takes it when you're not looking. Brilliant craftsman though.
Beau Cordex . Super travail👍

That was completely mesmerising! The skill, the patience, the artistry, the sheer number of tools required. Thank you, I am completely in awe.
Mr. Tamaki did excellent work, and very quickly. Unfortunately, he has moved on to the big lumberyard in the sky.
I am so sad to hear this. This film of Mr Tamaki was great gift to humanity, and I so appreciate that the film-maker did such a beautiful job, respectfully portraying a humble master at work!

Life is an investment - make it a beautiful one because it is worth it!
WOW it was beautiful crafting chalk line and not only that I love the music that they put on this videos. You feel like ur in old Japan.
The skill of this carver is incredible.
I believe it is also important to recognize the skill of the videographer who recorded this (very clearly!), and to thank whoever created this program to record and share the skills of such artists and craftsmen.
Thank you all
No way that the japanese create this piece of art just for a chalk Line 😱 you guys are true perfectionists
Thank you for this beautiful documentation. Great craftsmanship.
It's really fun to look at it while imagining the completed version!
I like that power chisel he's using, seems to work really well.
Don't get me wrong the craftsmanship is incredible but with things like chalkline and laser guides it makes sense why these type of things are highly sought after anymore.

💖🧿🤲
Impressive. If I had one it would be in a museum style glass case, not anywhere near my workshop.
My only question would be: Do they need to be so big, or is it for the sake of making all the decoration and beatiful carvings?

I wonder if he has an apprentice that works with him? That seems like it would be an art that may extinct if no one learns from him.
...
Turtle and crane,
"to stop short in the hope of not falling short."
(...really I have no clue, that's just what pops into my head with the piece.)
Thank you for the post, absolutely beautiful.
Nagyon szép mestermunka. Igazi művészet. Szomorú lennék, ha az ilyen mesterségek eltűnnének.
Japan... even the tool has to be nice!
I'm sure there is someone already but if he ever wants someone to continue his work when the time comes I'd like the chance to learn and do.
Ah, so it's a fancy chalkline. I spent the whole video wondering what it was supposed to be.
It’s a lovely vintage style chalk line.
Wow he's a skilled craftsmen 😮so its a fancy/glorified chalk line i just love the little turtle on the top ❤❤
While the Japanese do indeed make fine chalk lines, this is for ink.
No wonder it's the last one in Japan!
- inanimate objects, do you have a soul?
- Yes, because my creator worked, with his hands, with all his heart, and with all his soul.

I'm from Alaska USA. I love Japan and other countries ❤
Me too! I live in South Dakota.
More like a piece of art than a tool.. 😁😁 beautiful.. 👏👏
Amazing work
Increíble el nivel de detalle, fabuloso.
So sad nowadays, we use laser maker which is so easy to use. We forget how our predecessor making process into art.
amazing 🤩

Piękna robota
These skills must not be allowed to disappear.
It takes a lot of effort to make, but it is low consumption
Muito belo trabalho do SENHOR ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉👍🙏
Awesomeness!!! ❤
Muito obrigado. ❤
Es asombroso.
same as a builders chalkline
I love japan 🤩❤️
A chalk line...
Very pretty. I wish I could afford to get one for my wonderful husband.
Takes chalk line tools to a new height
Magnifique ! de la part d'un CHARPENTIER
