I have 3 apple tv 4k from 2017 - the biggest challenge is my 50 inch in my living room. the other tvs don’t really need any color correction they look nice all the time. I guess I am asking will the new apple tv 2021 help improve picture quality? I really don’t know what kind of upgrade this is? meaning the specs bring.small improvements . I enjoy your channel and would love to know what you think
Hello Chris! When you purchased the new AppleTV 4K model, how much better is it when compared to the previous AppleTV HD model? I had the misfortune of purchasing ours right before Apple had come out with the 4K version, but only had an HD TV. Now we have moved and have the 77” C1 model you mention. Is it a recommended upgrade?
I have the c1 but i can’t understand the difference in an Apple TV 4K vs my built in apps. Like showtime I’m currently watching a boxing match but I’m not sure if the Apple TV box will show the same content better. I can’t make up my mind 🤣 even with Netflix will the ATV box display the same Dolby vision movie better than in app? This is a hard decision or me but i don’t think i need it because all the apps i watch my tv already has or i can airplay apps like hbo max in Dolby vision via my iPhone 12. I haven’t seen a video that’s convincing me enough to buy ATV
Same tv. The only problem is some apps such as ESPN or Paramount plus are horrible on the LG operating system. That’s the only reason I’m considering it. Disney plus and Netflix work great on the C1s OS.
Great video, I noticed you said the A12 is in the iPad Mini 4. It’s actually in the iPad Mini 5 which is even better, just letting ppl know. Awesome vid!
Now that was a great review Chris! One extra advantage of having the Apple TV box, is you can stream your content from iTunes/TV app. You know the old DVD’s you have there!
Nice vid, but since you also use OLED TV, what is your take on the elevated black level issues the Apple TV has with Dolby vision content? Since Apple couldn’t fix it with software it seems as if it needs a hardware fix. I would expect the A12 Bionic to fix that.
Having Thread onboard is a game changer for Apple TV. Makes it an essential part of any future smart home in my view. Can’t wait for even more Thread supported devices!
I have 2 Apple Tv 4th gen that came out in 2015 one for the living room and one for my kids room. Still works fast and smooth, I love those boxes to watch tv. Definitely worth the price. But I have 2 4k tvs with HDR and eventhough my Apple Tvs works real good still I want the 4k experience since I’m nurfing my tvs with the 4th gen boxes so Im getting this new one
I have two Apple TV 4K and I have deleted and rearranged some of the App icons but after a day or two the deleted apps miraculously return. Is this an issue with the tvOS?
Good video. I'm upgrading my TV and have been thinking about getting a dedicated streaming device. I'm leaning toward the CX, but if C1 price comes down, I may get that. Both are Dolby capable. Why did you choose to go with an Apple TV instead of streaming directly to the television?
I wish I’d watched your video before ordering the new Apple TV. My old 4K box still works great. I might just cancel the order and get the new remote instead.
That sounds like a good plan especially if they are selling the new remote as a stand alone accssory. Enjoy. I signed up with Apple One which includes Apple TV+, and my I-Pad Pro is due to arrive next Tuessday, can't wait to get my new I-Pad Pro, which is my first I-Pad. I am planning to get a Mac Book Pro, I-Mac or Mac Mini with the new M1X chipset.
I would like to see your analysis of using an M1 Mac Mini in a home theater instead of an AppleTV 4K box. Will the M1 Mac Mini do everything in the video world that an AppleTV 4K supports? The M1 Mac Mini can use my newer Sony 950H 4K TV as a monitor. I am testing Audirvana software with Tidal MQA files on a MacBook Pro in a different location. This seems like a better audio solution than a Bluesound Node 2i for the home theater. I use an Oppo 205 for 2 channel audio with XLRs to a great amp and great speakers. I could also use the M1 Mac Mini for Lightroom slide shows rather than burning disks and playing them in the Oppo 205. Apparently, you can use an iPad as the keyboard for an M1 Mac Mini. I have the 4Th gen HD Apple TV but an AppleTV app on the TV seems to support 4K, Dolby Vision and even Atmos audio (but my audio is 2 channel). I also steam with Amazon HD but the refresh function on a 9.7” iPad Pro is extremely slow (like 30+ minutes). Any comments?
Man , I have a very old system my 55" LCD Sony TV doesn't support 4k, the apple tv that I have is the first HD one but the very good thing is that it comes with an optical digital audio output that works great with my 7.1 channel Marantz amp that is really old too but still going strong. My set is really old but works fine the only thing that sometimes doesn't work well is the Apple TV, so the Japanese hardware that is much older than the Apple TV is flawless but the American (Chinese) Apple TV device is the one that's failing, too bad.
man there are so many reasons why this is not working straight. First it could be your HDMI Connectors or even your TV. But also it could be your Apple TV. Do you mean with Apple=Chinese that they produce in China? Sony does also manufacture in China like everyone else. But this has mostly to do with cheaper labor. Otherwise this tech stuff would much more expensive though Edit: I looked it up and funny thing foxconn (which is a big partner of Apple) is also manufacturing for Sony. (But Sony does not only manufacure in China they have all around the world production lines)
@@timnbv4540 I looked it up and in my case the Sony TV was made in Mexico, the Marantz audio system and the Apple TV both were made in China. I moved my Apple TV to another TV and the same thing is happening, the 5g WI-Fi isn't working ok and I moved it really close to the router so it's not a reception issue. I hooked my Google Chrome to my Sony TV and it's working fine, so what I can assume is that my Apple TV isn't working properly. Thanks for your advice.
@@robertogomez8100 i think awareness about Chinese Products especially if they are from Chinese Brands is Important. But this is a whole other topic.. One thing what you could try would be that you try to plug in a network cable. Otherwise maybe it is time for a new device 😄

Been an Apple TV 4K user for 2 years now and you're right, those two storage options are really just for Game apps. But the ecosystem of tvOS Games isn't even that big or high quality anyways to begin with. Apple should push for offline download supports for your Apple TV purchases library back to Apple TV 4K. And push other streaming services like Disney+, HBO Max and others to do support it also. All your TV Apps are mostly native on tvOS so until now, it boggles me how of all form factors and platforms, Smart TV platforms are the one that still doesn't have offline downloading support yet. It'll ease the strain on streaming internet on those services too.
Fantastic advice Chris. Thanks for this. I have the 2017 ATV. Love the new remote and am trying to decide whether to get just the remote or future proof and get the new ATV? After all, I’ll be paying £55 (in the UK) for the remote so for another £114 I could get the whole package?
I'd never buy a roku streaming box, but I bought a tv with the roku ui built in and loved it. Its just so simple and easy to use I ended up buying a new tv for my aunt and mother, all the people in my life who aren't great with tech. I can't really get behind the Apple TV when every tv comes with a built in "smart os" of some kind. Also, how is the A12 a graphical upgrade when the A10X outperforms the A12 in terms of graphics? in fact the A10X outperforms the A12 in everything other than single core...
I was thinking of buying an Apple TV now that I have been in the apple system for a couple years now. I have been an Nvidia Shield guy. So quick question; can I play my videos and view my photos directly from the photos app on the Apple TV? Also does Apple Music look and work the sam just as on my phone and iPad? Does all of your playlist show up the same.
This video was excellent. You are the first channel to mention a setup with multiple Apple TV’s. Can you show us how to setup one as the main hub in a network of other TVs?
I’m in the process of getting a bigger tv in 4K, so decided it’s time to upgrade the box while I’m at it. Is there a specific type of hdmi cable I should get?
FYI, The AppleTV APP on other devices does not merge in to the APP content from other services (other than your own downloaded movies). This is only a feature for the APP on an Apple TV box
HELP... I have an Apple HD TV with the NEW 2021 Remote. I can not find a way to completely have the remote turn off my Samsung Series 7 TV. When I hit the power button it put the Apple TV box in sleep mode and then it acts like it is powering off the TV, but within 10 seconds the TV comes back on. Then I have to use the TV remote to turn it off. I am trying to just use the Apple Remote. Do you have any ideals.
I was so happy to see that my favorite TH-cam content creator made this video. Chris, I have a small one headroom efficiency apartment. People have been telling me to use Apple’s home kit. So far I have an HomePod mini and loving it. I only watch Disney + and HBO Max on my tv thru apps. I cant wait to see your review to see how I can use the Apple TV in my home setup. Love your channel.
I learned something. Looks like the new remote won't work for my daughter's Just Dance game. I'll still buy the new Apple TV. I can always buy a big monitor for her room so she can use the old Apple TV for her game. Paired with headphones, that's sounding like a great idea. :)
Do you know if it will be possible to control the new Apple TV through the HomePod mini? For example if I say “hey Siri play Game of Thrones on HBO” will it play it on tv or will it just be good or fast forward and rewind.
I’m upgrading as I have yet 4th gen model. I also want the high frame rate.. I did like 👍🏾 your small tv plug.. I upgraded my OLED last year to LG CX with 4 HDMI 2.1 ports… my only other small thought I’d I hope Apple brings some really immersive 4K screensavers!
Does iTunes carry any movies at 60FPS? I watched Gemini Man which is filmed at 60 FPS HDR but it does not look as good as the clips of the same movie at 60 FPS show on TH-cam.
if it had the ability to download movies or record TV shows like a DVR I would buy one in a heartbeat. Also how do I get music into it? Traditional music like hey record, cassette, radio, CD content. I have a high and audio visual system and it seems that Apple TV doesn’t want to manage my traditional audio input I don’t want to have to carry multiple or remotes around the house to manage my AV receiver. Any possible answers to this?
Upgrading from Apple TV HD to [*new*] Apple TV 4k: ethernet is upgraded from 100mbps to 1gbps, which is sourcing content from another part of the home (e.g. a Plex server), will fix a lot of audio/video sync issues. Noted that the "old" Apple TV 4K also had gigabit internet as well.
I sold my 4K Apple TV box which was 2017 it cost me the price of the new handset to replace it with the new 2021 Apple TV 4K. I didn’t see the sense of buying a new handset for my old 4K TV box when I could buy a new one for £69.0
I want to buy only the new tv remote to have Something new, I like the actual one but it’s not very good when you’re using it to go forward o backwards on a video.
Is there anything new in the hardware that was required for Thread to work? It's a protocol so couldn't it be added to the current 4k in a firmware update?
Excellent video Chris! I have the fourth GEN HD version so I’m upgrading to the new one that I ordered this morning! I wasn’t sure if I should get the 32 or the 64 but for the few extra bucks I figured I might as well go for the 64 just in case because I don’t plan on upgrading it anytime again LOL
Thank you for this! Too many people are bashing the new model and it’s nice to see a different opinion! I have 4K already and your vid helped me make up my mind and I placed order for new one ☺️
This is a PREMIUM streamer. It appeals more to those who have moderate to higher end AV set ups. I have yet to see ONE reviewer take the time to go outside listing the generic spec sheet differences and a superficial unboxing. Anyone with a pair of eyes can see the difference in the Siri remote. What nobody is taking the time to do is is to connect the 2017 and the 2021 for an AV performance side by side subjective review. I win a more premium sound system and was curious enough to upgrade. There IS a difference in AV. Audio is noticeably better in some AB comparisons. I would invite a reviewer to do more than offer a rundown of the spec sheets
I would never recommend the 64GB one because at least now in 2021 the apps auto release the storage space, if you download a full game inside the app, days later you see that the game ask you again to download the files again.
I use the Apple TV (older ) 4K one for my home hub, will the newer one make it faster to access my HomeKit etc if you know what I mean, and also I’ve just bought the LG 55 inch oled ThinQ , I love it, should I buy the new Apple TV I’m in 2 minds ?
I’ve been using Thread for my smart lights for a few months. It’s really an upgrade in experience. The Phillips Hue bulbs got faster once the hub started supporting Thread, but the Nanoleaf bulbs that run Thread without a hub at all are basically instant. I still use the Hues for my bedroom lights, but when I replace the fluorescents in the living room, I’ll be using Nanoleaf
I like these new deep dives. Everyone can do the gloss and repeat the rumor or read the latest press release but this leads you into analyst territory … I am going to buy the new Apple TV 4K to replace the older 4K box. I have Hue Hub & Sync Box hooked to existing along with five bulbs and five bars. I also have two original HomePods connecting via AirPlay 2. As I don’t have any other SmartHome stuff connected to the unit I think I am going to tear it all the way down and rebuild on the new Apple TV 4K and move the other one into the bedroom where I have the 3rd Gen Apple TV that no longer supports TH-cam. A good video to make might be how to simply swap out an old Apple TV with a new one.
While I do care about the smart home stuff I don’t care about the rest of the features, so getting a new remote for my current TV 4K and a HomePod Mini is what I’m doing
Not supporting QMS that is part of the HDMI 2.1 standard.. Why Apple? So many steaming services with various resolution and framerates, but without QMS one have to wait 3-5 seconds so that the TV have to reconnect to the box every time the resolution changes… Annoying and this is 2021, so should be included.
The most underrated part of the video which most people will miss is him holding his drink while his index finger points towards the sky lol 😂 the modern day Babe Ruth 😄👍
Ohh apple why did you remove gyroscope from new remote Such a pain u wonderful is sometimes I don’t want to get a Xbox controller when old remote was fine fir casual gaming
I’m still watching my Apple TV HD , so I reckon this is bigger leap than I expected But I would say, it is not worthy for people who have Apple TV 4K to buy the new remote,
I can’t wait for the era of “everything needs to be touch operated” to be over. So many things work better with physical buttons, the brain connects with buttons in a much more intuitive way. That’s why we’re able to type on keyboards without looking. The more prominent issue is the influx of new cars that have fewer buttons that are being replaced with touch screens and touch pads. Touch pads use more brain energy, because the brain doesn’t have anything physical to relate to the input, not to mention how difficult they are to use accurately in a moving car. Increased distraction, increased focus on the distraction = more collisions. Please, for the love of god, stop doing this. It’s stupid. Buttons are good. Just make the buttons more sexy 👍🏻 TLDR; I like the new remote 😉
I’ve been saying this about Tesla’s since the model s! As a mechanic when testing lights etc I have to press 3 on screen prompts just to manually activate the headlights
I know that it’s supposed to be a joke but man, Apple ain’t the only one doing exactly that. Look at the Amazon Fire TV Stick, Telecom Magenta TV Stick, …
Idk why people buy these in the modern world at all. Mass majority of tv come as “smart” making this and all other plate forms not needed. Yes some people still have older tv but youre better off buying a $250 55in 4k smart tv then this. Tv are so cheap now. Hell im watching this on my $130 55in 4k smart tv in 2160p😂

I have a high and audio visual system and it seems that Apple TV doesn’t want to manage my traditional audio input I don’t want to have to carry multiple or remotes around the house to manage my AV receiver. Any possible answers to this?
I have a new LG C1 65 TV. With Apple TV 4k ... waoo. Sound and picture is better than Lan cabel direct to TV.
So you’re saying I should upgrade my 2012 version. 😆
I didn’t see the sense of buying a new handset for my old 4K TV box when I could buy a new one for £69.0
And still no way to locate the Apple TV remote when it gets lost.
Sure there is; attach a new Apple AirTag to it 🤣
I've been impatiently waiting to upgrade my Apple TV.
What is that spinning thing in the background called? It’s so cool
It’s called a thingymujig

@@rafay599 I found the name myself, if you search for The Swinging Sticks, you should find it.
Getting a new 4K for my main TV and a new AppleTV remote for the old 4K Apple TV
What’s that thing behind him that is moving on it’s own
I want to buy only the new tv remote to have Something new, I like the actual one but it’s not very good when you’re using it to go forward o backwards on a video.
Who should use it? Only those who aren't savvy enuff to use Chromecast with Google TV. ($50)
Is there anything new in the hardware that was required for Thread to work? It's a protocol so couldn't it be added to the current 4k in a firmware update?
Unfortunately no, Thread requires an antenna to work, so it’s hardware related.
Very nice! Enjoy!
Get a firestick 4k. Better in every day
Thumbs up for talking about Apple TV App on most TVs. Nice.... Thank you!
Just got the LG C1 and love it. That is the main reason I am getting the nw 4K Apple TV.
Awesome! Congrats. Such a nice panel.
Get firestick 4k
Thank you for this! Too many people are bashing the new model and it’s nice to see a different opinion! I have 4K already and your vid helped me make up my mind and I placed order for new one ☺️
Glad it was helpful!
Remotes....all I need. Thanks.
do you have an idea(s) what other things Apple might have for the larger 64GB?
I'm not buying it I'm just buying the remote!
Thanks for the information
I use the Apple TV (older ) 4K one for my home hub, will the newer one make it faster to access my HomeKit etc if you know what I mean, and also I’ve just bought the LG 55 inch oled ThinQ , I love it, should I buy the new Apple TV I’m in 2 minds ?
Nice vid! I think the thread support is a pretty big game changer for me
I’ve been using Thread for my smart lights for a few months.
Everyone can do the gloss and repeat the rumor or read the latest press release but this leads you into analyst territory …
I am going to buy the new Apple TV 4K to replace the older 4K box.
🙌
While I do care about the smart home stuff I don’t care about the rest of the features, so getting a new remote for my current TV 4K and a HomePod Mini is what I’m doing
Did you get the mini? Worth it?
@@GeorgeLista yes I did and yes it’s worth it. Blows the speakers on my tv away
Really useful.
Glad you think so!
the difference is only $20 so even though I don't need the storage, it's only $20
The most underrated part of the video which most people will miss is him holding his drink while his index finger points towards the sky lol 😂 the modern day Babe Ruth 😄👍
why are there no subtitles?
Ouch! The price tag on that tv. 😬
Ohh apple why did you remove gyroscope from new remote
Such a pain u wonderful is sometimes
I don’t want to get a Xbox controller when old remote was fine fir casual gaming
I’m still watching my Apple TV HD , so I reckon this is bigger leap than I expected
But I would say, it is not worthy for people who have Apple TV 4K to buy the new remote,
I wish I could buy a Mac Mini / Apple TV combo unit.
I think it's time to change my Apple TV3.
Gotta love that mute button. Apple my not admit it’s mistakes, but does finally fix them after someone retired.
I endowed the new Apple TV because I only have the Apple TV HD.
Better content than rene Richie tbh
Dang! your iPhone is loooooong 😮
And it keeps on flipping over between scenes...
Do you need a 4K tv to use the Apple TV 4K??
Is no one going to talk about how tall his phone is?
Please call this out: The parental pin is beyond stupid! Basically everyone in the room can see your inputs. This is s major fail for Apple.
Just make the buttons more sexy 👍🏻
TLDR; I like the new remote 😉
I’ve been saying this about Tesla’s since the model s! As a mechanic when testing lights etc I have to press 3 on screen prompts just to manually activate the headlights
Don't buy, doesn't play Atmos over Dolby TrueHD. Had to buy Nvidia shield to get Atmos over Dolby TrueHD to work.
Apple is the only company that can release a tv with the screen sold separately js
I know that it’s supposed to be a joke but man, Apple ain’t the only one doing exactly that. Look at the Amazon Fire TV Stick, Telecom Magenta TV Stick, …
It is new Apple TV 8K because with HDMI 2.1 (4K120 and 8K60) not Apple TV 4K!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!
The reason why we bought Apple TV is because our 5 years old Sony android software become very buggy
For $20 extra dollars only, I'm getting the 64GB. I currently have the HD model so it's time for an update.
You used 32 gigs? I regret getting the 64 barely filled up 1/4th of it
@@blessed_by_welfare5922 Probably not. I just checked, actually my Apple TV HD is also 64GB. Thanks for your message.
@@Marciap17 my bad trying to save you money the 64 gig is a waste of money there’s honestly not much to download the games are not that great and you can’t download movies and music
This guy confused the sh*t out of me.
