No real ecosystem with Roku. No interest since they will never integrate better than a fire tv to Amazon, chromecast for google or an Apple TV for Apple users. Too much lost with Roku for a few minor differences. They are still having issues with TH-cam and coming up with a deal.

I loooove my AppleTV 4K so much! The thing about it that is hard to show or explain is how fun and satisfying it is to use. It is just more fun to interact with you TV and movie content with an ATV and the presentation (movies, pictures, menu, apps) looks perfect.

I got my Apple TV a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. However, I am seeing an issue. I have a Samsung sound bar connected through hdmi arc. When I switch on my tv with Apple TV, the output for tv goes to internal speakers. When I switch on with my tv remote, it stays the same (hdmi arc). Anyone got an idea?

Put the HDMI (e)ARC on your AppleTV and the sound bar to your TV directly. I use original HomePods in stereo and also separate a Yamaha Receiver/Amplifier with loudspeakers. I can switch between the HomePods and my stereo/5.1 installation, by pressing the “TV” button long and choose what sound connection I want.

Coming from a 10-year-old Apple TV - I needed a new one - obviously... If I were to only need a new remote I figure the $60 price tag would be well worth it. How can a remote control be so great...
1- quickly open a new app with Siri & button location
2 - new trackpad becomes intuitive very fast - may be too sensitive on occasion
3- having a Mute button on it is well worth it - I use it all the time. Not having to dig up the television remote -
4- the size is just right in the hand - the flat sides (ala iPhone 12) is gold - Very ergonomic.
    5- Rechargeable battery
6- Being able to easily use the controls (most used are the mute, volume & pause buttons) without requiring to pick the remote up is also nice (for me 50% of the time) Lots of smaller remotes are not so well designed in that way! After a few more days I end up using all of the buttons in that way & less so the trackpad part.
7 The ability to start and shut down Apple TV * television with one power button is great. I use the power button all the time - it is the only remote I have to use now.

For the Apple TV 4K (future proof for newer set & improved resolutions) 32GB- what I like best - in no order
    1- Picture & picture
    2- Faster
    3- Just better overall
4- Able to lock in playback speed in YT (not able to do that on the old A tv - firestick did not permanently lock it in)
5- TV+ app integration with some other apps
One thing I will miss for ease of use (as on the Fire Stick remote) is to be able to simply with a 2 button press (1 long - 1 short) "save to watch later" a video while browsing on TH-cam. With Apple, it is way less easy (more miserable - 8 button press) to do.
Interesting how in the unboxing videos - No one commented on the very well-designed shipping box that the A tv box was shipped in. Those who showed the shipping box just cut the plastic without realizing a hammock-style suspension that was employed. Simply Brilliant...
    One month later for me.
I think it works great overall
I love having the mute button - game-changer when letter ads run their course.
The trackpad is good and use it a lot - except there ends up being many false actions that occur.
The Siri button is used a lot and the button location is spot on.

I just changed over to the Apple ecosystem. I decided to get this Apple tv and give it a try. I love this thing. The build quality is amazing. The remote looks great the buttons are clicky and solid. The only thing I would change about the system itself is I wish the box was the same color and finish as the remote. The user interface is smooth and snappy. The UI looks really good and the games play well. The picture and sound quality is amazing. My previous box was a Roku Ultimate which I really like. This blows that out of the water.

@@hansmurris6716 This isnt a way to solve the issue. What he is saying here is that the Apple TV 4k can not decode Atmos TrueHD which is the lossless version of atmos. This is because from my experience it does not support bitstreaming to a headunit or TV. They cared more about adding 2.1 which has no business right now being put on a media streaming device.

You have to put the AppleTV 4k into SDR 4K so it reads files correctly without it trying to SHOEHORN FORCE Dolby Vision onto Standard content making it look much worse. The result of the SDR 4k setting is that when the movie is opened you have to wait 1-2 seconds in black screen while the handshaking is being done. That bugs me enough. I'll know in a month if that is a deal breaker for me as i was happy with the Roku Ultra and Amazon 4k stick.

I like my Apple TV and would have preferred to keep it, but it frustrates me with Dolby Atmos. You can get a a Roku and get Atmos over the Apple TV+ app with standard ARC but can’t with Apple TV. Yes that’s right since Apple chose high bandwidth Atmos. Only way to get Atmos is if you have a tv less than 2 years old with eARC if you have Sonos Arc hooked to your tv. So I sold it for a Roku Ultra. It’s honestly just as fast and works well and actually gets Dolby Atmos without me having to buy a new tv.

I have the tube version of the shield. I bought it after reading all the glowing reviews to replace my fire cube. I have had both versions of the cube and the second version was far superior than the first. When I added the second cube it took my display to a level that was absolutely out of this world and I own a LGc7. The main problem with the cubes are they only last for a year. The first one lasted for 11 months and the second 13 months so I decided to go in a different direction when replacing the second cube and bought the tube. In my opinion the cube is far superior than the tube. The cube has a far more superior picture quality than the tube and is faster by quantum leaps than the tube. I have had the tube for a few months and am having a problem with it turning on my display by itself. Shield is good enough to get the job done but the cube is far superior product with the only issue being longevity.

One small detail though, when talking about the IR capabilities in the new Siri remote, you mentioned volume and power. Unfortunately the power button cannot be programmed using IR. Its essentially a CEC shortcut button the same as holding down the home button and putting everything to sleep. There is no way to remap that button. Volume up, volume down, and mute are the only buttons that can be configured to work with IR rather than CEC.

Spanner ads are something I find insulting about Google TV (now being pushed to the whole Android TV ecosytem). If they gave you a Chromecast for free I would have no problem with the ads. But if you have to pay for the device it's a slap in the face to have control taken away from you, the purchaser, and given solely to the advertisers. They alone get to decide what you see when you start your viewing session, you the purchaser have absolutely no control over that. That alone makes me seriously consider an Apple TV. Google is grossly out of line there and people need to make as much noise as possible about it.
But... what is up with Apple TV disabling any of the advanced streaming game services? If they would so much as enable Safari you would have access to triple A titles via Stadia and xCloud. A $30 Walmart Android TV unit can play Cyberpunk in 4K.
If Apple TV legitimately enables Safari I will take another look.

I don’t understand how most people like the new Apple TV remote. I absolutely hate it, the The buttons are too sensitive. I never can go back a couple of seconds if I did not hear something right. When I push the microphone and say hey Siri what did they say it absolutely never works. As a matter fact I can’t do anything with the remote until I push the microphone again and get rid of Siri on the screen. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I went from first gen Apple TV to the most recent gen. I love the remote on the first one so much more than this one. What’s the use of having a microphone on the side if it never works. If I’m looking at something on the Apple TV app and touch the remote, somehow it will go to the first episode or previous episode and I don’t know what the hell I did wrong and it’s very difficult to get back to the episode that I was looking at. Is anyone else having this problem?
