Use a small slide hammer to remove the alignment pins between the top bolts to make access easier. Also, remove the spring covers from the leadscrew, they're useless.
If you removed the two dowel pins from the top of the apron first, you would find it a lot easier to drop the gearbox without levering it and straining everything.

The D is for Deluxe It has the dro and a quick change tool post that the standard 336 doesn't..

Yes the lathe has been good the only thing I have had trouble with is the lead screw cover not compressing enough and shering the pin
