    I love how bright your faces are in these last months!
    You're developing a balanced mix of sharing daily life; the local streets, shops, and sights; meeting other people; and of course all the glorious food. Truly well done.
    And thank you! 💛

      Thank you so much. We really appreciate your kind comments. The sound was a little challenging in the coffee shop because there were patrons in there and we didn't want to disturb them with our filming, but overall we are very happy with the way it turned out. Thanks again!!

    Yummy! As a chef/baker who used to work in a cafe like The Stray Bean, I appreciate showing the food. The avocado toast with carrot salad and couscous (?) looked delicious! It's great that Tony found a place to hang out and I'm sure you'll both miss it when you move on to the next destination in your journey.

    If you liked the chateau at Versailles, and are around when the weather gets nice, a visit to Veaux-le-Vicomte could be worthwhile. It is the reason Versailles exists. I drove visitors from the US or Germany out there a number of times. It was built by the finance minister under a young Louis IV, so he could have a summer retreat ot far from Paris. He had money (unlimited ?) and taste. He gathered the best architect, landscape architect, painters, etc to be found. He bought a hunting lodge, which was torn down, and let them loose. He also built a village/small town and brought lace workers from Holland/Belgium (?), the best in Europe at the time to work there. The fountains probably only run on a few days in the summer, gravity fed from reservoirs(?) on hills kilometers away. At Versailles, teams of workers running behind hedges, would man pumps and make sure water was always flowing from fountains the King could see, when he was walking in the gardens. There was an opening party, feast etc. (gold plates for important tables - silver for the rest...). Moliere was there for one of his plays and a short opera/comedy he wrote for the occasion. There were fireworks. The young Louis IV was invited, from the then slightly aging Fontainebleau. He did not stay but left in a hissey fit.
    The next day the minister was arrested and spent the rest of his life in prison. He probably was not the man in the iron mask, but the arresting officer was D'Artagnan. The minister was fortifying an island off of Marseille, complete with a garrison of British mercenaries...
    Work was stopped on the gardens and finishing touches inside (ornamentation on the cieling of the dome, for example). Sections of tapestries with symbols connected to the family of the minister were cut out and replaced with royal equivalents... The workers were sent to make something bigger and better... Versailles. Bigger is not always better. Veaux-le-Vicomte has a certain unity of scale and harmony. The giant goldfish in the moat are probably not contemporary... LOL.
    ( When Louis IV wanted money. He told people they were making him a loan. If it didn't arrive soon enough, he sent people to collect it. Sometimes the promissory notes were bought back for a percent of the face value. So they were not quite worthless. The minister decided which notes to buy back and at what rate. He sent agents out to buy such notes for a minimum. Something is better than nothing, right. You can guess the rest...)

      Thank you, John. That is all so fascinating. I am loving learning about the history of Versailles and the surrounding area. We visited Chateau Saint-Germain en Laye today and it is so interesting to learn how that is connected to the Versailles Palace and where the Kings used to live before Versailles. Appreciate all the info ❤️

    I guess I should have known when you said coffee shop instead of cafe' that it was going to be an Anglo one rather than French, but I was still surprised. I thought you were translating for us. It looks delicious. And the pizza place, the egg cracked in the middle of the pizza baked in a wood-burning oven, no doubt. I think you already tried creme fraiche in the middle of the pizza. Have some for me--I'm lactose intolerant of cream, milk, and cheese. Is the town of Versailles very touristy?

    • @kjandtonylovefrance
      @kjandtonylovefrance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Versailles is different, in that you will find many tourists around the area of the palace, but it has much more of a small town feel to it. I would not call it touristy, at least not where we are living, which is just off of Rue Royale. This may not be the case in other areas of Versailles. But as far as we can tell, it is a very good town for families. It is very family-oriented.

    Interview sound is so bad couldn’t understand much at all!!!!

    • @kjandtonylovefrance
      @kjandtonylovefrance  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I know. Sorry about that. Unfortunately, there were customers in the coffee shop and one gentleman was talking the entire time we were conducting the interview. I don't think he realized how much it was interfering and clearly it would have been rude to ask him to stop talking. The wait staff were being kind in staying still while we were conducting the interview because every sound was magnified. There was also a lot of other footage we couldn't use because of the sound. The acoustics in such a small space, even with microphones, was not cutting in. We decided that rather than asking the owner to redo the entire interview that we would do as much as possible to fix the sound quality. Our son ran it through a program that he uses that improved it considerably. It was actually way worse. So, that is why the interview sounds that way. It was a decision as to keep it or cut it and we decided to keep it.

    • @kjandtonylovefrance
      @kjandtonylovefrance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That ship has sailed, Brunie. I (KJ) gave up sugar last week and relapsed yesterday when we went to Paris because I couldn't resist the pastry 😦 Although, the walking is counter-acting it a little bit.

    • @betteurbain7911
      @betteurbain7911 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, maybe not. I never gained on vacations in Europe due to all of the walking and stair climbing (I would not get into the coffin-like box elevators at the hotels where we stayed) despite dining out for every meal. Portions are smaller in Europe than in the U.S. And food is higher quality, less processed, fresh, many harmful ingredients are banned in the EU--so healthier. Tony had lost weight. Also, KJ and Tony are still working. Tony is writing a book and might still be seeing patients in his private practice. Making these videos, which KJ does, is work and a job. Their videos are monetized and they have sponsors. KJ also has another channel and her private practice. The better balance of life in France does seem like a vacation compared with the corporate rat race in the US. KJ and Tony, please correct me if I am wrong.
