  • After years without a midsize pickup, Ford has followed GM and brought back the Ranger. Using its EcoBoost four-cylinder, it's already the most fuel efficient pickup in the segment.

    They shouldn't call this a Ranger... maybe a F100 Ranger. The Ranger was a compact truck. It's like slamming the ECO 3.5 in the Taurus and calling it a SHO. The Yamaha 3.0 and 3.2 was exclusive for the SHO. I've loved Ford since I was a kid, and now I can honestly say I don't. I still like older models, but nothing from around 2010 and beyond.

      Google ford lobo truck. I'm a big guy and like rangers. Even have several. Yeah it be easier for me to fit in this truck but it's like the size of a late 90s f150 when they redesigned from boxy truck look to curvy look.

      According to Ford, by 2022 they'll build a compact unibody front-drive pickup based on the new overseas Focus platform. They say it'll be a 4-door model only and will be powered by nothing more than a 2.0 I4. I'm thinking something along the lines of a 4-door Transit with a separated bed from the cab opposed to just chopping off the rear portion of the roof leaving the "bed" integrated with the rest of the vehicle like the Subaru Baja. Would be very interesting and would surely be a big seller if done and priced right. Say, in the $15,000-$20,000 range?

    They've been building this very same truck in Australia for years now. It sell predominately in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Now in those countries it has a 3.2 liter I5 diesel engine. Its got decent power and its very torquey, but best of all its robust. This 2.3 turbo I4 just seems problematical. Getting 270 hp out of an engine that size is really going to hurt the durability and longevity of the engine, especially if you use it as a truck. Putting that I4 under constant stress by towing is really going to wear it out. I see lots of Rangers broken down on a long hilly stretch of freeway in our future. Its a great truck it just needs a better engine. Either a V6 gas or the I5 diesel.

      Allen Portz b/s Ford has been an international company for decades, they even imported Model T's from Canada. As for engine differences its a matter of what customers want. Ford exists to sell a product, not to stroke your ego!

      @@roberts459 Stroke my ego, what the fuck does that mean? If Ford wanted to sell a product they would offer it with a wider range of engine, transmission, cab, and other such option. North America should have get the 3.2L I5 CRDi Turbo Diesel engine. Its the best engine offered here in Asia, and lots of torque. I know you use lb-ft, but it is rated at 470Nm of torque, and 200hp for a Diesel. I know Diesel engines is quite different in terms of strict emissions, but it is possible to meet North American emissions standards. It might just get a bit detuned. But it is the perfect engine there. Just renamed it as the PowerStroke there from its name here as the DuraTorq. Also it has an available 6 speed manual transmission, paired with the 3.2L engine. It is the best combination you can get here.

    • @atx-cvpi_99

      Back then in the 60's my late grandfather used to tell me that having a car made in America is highly desirable. He used to have a Chevy Bel-Air. Also, that Ranger is 7 or 8 years old maximum. I would say that it was used as a work truck, but it looks pristine, so what could be the explanation for the colorless logo?

      Turbos. Anytime you turbocharge an engine your fuel economy goes to shit as soon as you mash that skinny pedal and the turbos are called for. Expect very dismal economy in the real world the way people drive and the higher speed limits people will quickly realize they're not that powerful when you drive them in a manner that doesn't call for turbo boost.

    • @drn13355
      @drn13355 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wildbill23c It sint the turbo. it is weight. And it does it damn good fuel milage as I have one and I live in WY. I am getting 5 MPG more than my 2012 Tacoma I sold to replace it. However no matter what a truck will never get great gas meltable because they are heavy. Hell this is basically the same size as an F-150 from 2000. People act like a kid size is some super small vehicle. It has a fully boxed frame and is a beast.
