Hopeless. My old 94 ranger with a fuel injected 2.3 litre 4 with factory header hemispheracle head 2 spark plugs per cylinder made plenty of horse power. The truck handled like it was on rails. The bed was low enough and 6' in length. I pulled around my 7' x12' trailer no problem. I had fresh cut locust logs piled 5' high on the trailer and the truck pulled it fine. No I'm not going 70 but I'm not an idiot and don't need or want to go that fast with a load. Had the rear frame not rotted away I would still be driving it. So now I have rebuilt a 1977 f150 4x4 and also a 1985 f150 4x4. I will never buy anything new again. I can build better performance than this new crap with after market performance parts for a tenth the money of this new factory crap. 40000 dollars or less is what I pay for the houses I rebuild and flip not a truck. For twenty grand I can build a truck that will out pull out work any of this new absolute crap. Who needs all those cup holders and fancy sound systems in a work truck. You need to have your engineers and designers go too work with people who really use a truck for its intended purpose not a bunch of yuppies and soccer mom's who cracked up their car's and now want to be the biggest thing on the road. To charge 30- 40 - 50- 60 -70 thousand and more for a pickup truck is sinful. In fact all these new vehicles are way over priced and your deliberately making them so the can not be serviced by the owner. Good luck there are plenty of folks that have had enough. The unions the government need to get out of the transportation business. You fluff a vehicle up with all kinds of crash protection but at the same time put 300 plus hp engines in them. People are driving way to fast for road conditions. You braking systems that beat the racing brake of just a few short years ago. So people Sprint about at speeds that their attention level and driving skill levels aren't even close to being part with. And with all fancy video and sound devices to even further detract divers. Did I say drivers? Most people are just plodding along for the ride pointing the vehicle hammering the gas and brakes like drunken chimpanzees. While they chatter about nonsense on their cell phones. I used to drive a fuel tanker now Im nervous just leaving my driveway. You all want to lose the privilege and freedom to drive your own vehicles where and when you want. Keep buying this expensive junk till no one can afford it. That's the plan then the uber government driver less cars will be your only choice. And they won't be cheap but you won't own them or have free instant access to them. But your tax dollars will be funding them.
They tow 5000lb Campers with the Diesel versions we have here in Australia There is a rated test 0-60mph( 100kmh)with 5000lb Campers done with all Global Pickups
Absolutely love my 6mo old '19 Ranger XLT FX4 crew cab.. black on black. Everywhere I stop ..ppl compliment & ask bout it. Assembly quality /fit & finish are top notch. The powertrain Is exquisite .. best in class by a long shot. This Is what Ford Motor Co excels at.. trucks & SUVs! This new Ranger Is no exception. Im @10k mis & its only getting better. Soon acquiring the Fox 2.0 shock upgrade kit & Ford Performance tune. Already a sporty & quick truck.. should be a blast even more so. Been confirmed by Fords powertrain engineers that simply using 93 premium fuel gets you 300hp! Nice bonus . Keep on trucking!
I have one and love it. The oil change is soo easy, everyone has been complaining but it isn't bad.. To get to the filter all you do is turn your wheels to the right remove a flap and there the filter is unobstructed by wheel or any lines. then when you remove the filter the oil drains into a funnel that perfectly guides your oil to a container.
S.W. Wolf agree completely. I did end up removing the skid plate over the drain pan (4 x bolts) to save the mess. Also only pulled the top 3-4 tabs on the upper flap and folded it aside. Took less than 30 mins.
I dont think the problem is just oil changes. Ford Rangers have a terrible reliability rating. Dog and lemon give them 2 stars and a list as long as your arm of problems. Chassis twisting and cracking to the point they are now checked for cracks on safety inspections. Engine failures. Sensor failures. Transmission failures.
Exactly ! Its utterly quick & simple. I'm glad they designed that monstrous engine "oil cooler" on side of the powrerful RS rally race car derived powertrain. Heavy duty cooling systems throughout. 6.3qrt oil capacity! Longevity Is def the plan no doubt . Fox 2.0 shock upgrade goin in soon w/ Ford Performance - 2.3L specific tune. My truck is approx 6mos old /10k mis. Love it! Home run FoMoCo.
@@erice8810 Yes! this dude was misinformed as were many at 1st. Ford engineers made it very easy & worth it 100% ..to have that monster oil cooler there. 6.3qt oil capacity ensures max durability folks. Must use SN+'rated "full synthetic motor oil" ONLY. Mobil1 5w30 or Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 for example currently exceed this requirement
@@Stopthegreed go back to Tacoma world troll! Ranger Is legendary in reliability. U sure see a ton more 10-15yr old Rangers on rd than any other smaller truck. Ur intent is blatantly obvious. Hope your being paid at very least. Btw ALL FUTURE Tacoma trucks being assembled in Mexico! Foreign 2nd tier trucks made in another foreign country for sale in USA!? No thanks! My new "best in class" Ranger built at MAP facility in Wayne, Michigan. Profits stay in USA. Do you expect any less from FoMoCo truck division. Of course not. New Bronco coming fall '20. Its painful for ya isnt it. The trolling & lies are blatantly obvious. Cant stop superior product! Keep on trucking. God bless all! #Americantrucksuperiority
The scene with the kids laughing in the back just sold this truck for me! My four-year old daughter could care less if she rode in a Porsche, but every time I borrow a pickup truck from work she won't stop talking about it for a week. Thanks for the excellent review from a family and usability perspective.
1. It's a small truck, the bed is going to be small. You also have the offroad package, making the truck higher up, so the bed is going to be higher. 2. For 40K the Lariat should have a dampener, yes. 3. The front tie-down can't be lower, or else the wheel-bump will be in the way. I'm pretty sure this is close to the standard tie-down configurations of pretty much all trucks. If you want more, you can literally put them in yourself. 4. No one uses select unless you're driving a sports car, and having paddle shifters on an automatic, non-sport car is idiotic, they'd be in the way 99% of the time, and be a huge annoyance. 5. Nearly all modern vehicles are going to be a pain in the ass to work on yourself, especially the engine bay thanks to federal regulations regarding safety, which make almost all vehicles pretty similar thanks to needing to implement crumple zones and the need to make vehicles sleeker and more aerodynamic for better MPG. The Lariat version is for people who don't really care about the cost. If you want to actually buy a truck on a budget, go for the XL with the 4x4/offroad and towing packages, it has the same capabilities as the Lariat but for 10-15K less. You won't have leather seats that massage you and ultra HD 581.9 surround sound speakers, but oh well. It's a truck.
"The front tie-down can't be lower, or else the wheel-bump will be in the way. I'm pretty sure this is close to the standard tie-down configurations of pretty much all trucks. If you want more, you can literally put them in yourself." That's why I wish more manufacturers would just put multiple tie downs in each corner. I see that the new GM half-tons have 3 in each corner. All trucks should have at least that many in their bed. But you point is a good one. The front tie downs wouldn't work if they were lower. This truck is overpriced no matter what. For $40k you can get a decent F-150 XLT, a Tacoma TRD Pro, or a Colorado ZR2. The features you get in the Ranger Lariat just don't justify that price tag. It's a small truck with an ok interior. For $10-15k more than the XL, I just don't see where that money went. I agree on all your other points.
Lighty honestly I think your way off on number 4. I agree it is dum to have them on a non sports orientated vehicle. But imo when they were developed (racing teams) they were designed for ease of use. To make shifting easier and more efficient.. taking your hands of the wheel etc. I have towed from time to time with my ecodiesel Grand Cherokee and now my hemi GC and I can tell ya when I’m coming down a pass and need to kick it down a gear to help maintain speed. It’s just a finger flick and both hands are firmly on the wheel vs reaching down for a shifter and trying to figure out its orientation. I just say don’t give them a bad rep until you try them.
I opted for the shadow black. XLT extended cab/6 ft bed. Fx4, tow package, technology package. Its been almost a month and so far all features have been useful. You dont get leather seats but you get remote start/ford pass phone start. Trail control. Adapative cruise control, lane keep assist. Nav. Heated seats. Tow mode and a bunch of other really nice amenities. Price was about 42 before rebates and what not
I have a 2019 Ranger XLT with the off-road package and tow package and it's a damn good truck. I work out in the desert and this thing handles nice offroad, also to everyone complaining about the cost, i got mine for 38k after taxes, bottom line f-150's that are 4x4 run in the 50 range after taxes, so yeah its cheaper. So yeah I'm a Ranger fan.
It's a great truck. Best in class from the get go. No need defend brother. Ford is #1 in trucks for good reason. Has been 42 yrs straight in US & Canada. All truck guys know this..its all about engineering /design/technology. The powertrain / plush ride along w/ ULTRA solid "bank vault like" chassis had me @ hello :). Told my beloved son to order his own (he did.. '20 in new race red) cause he parked his expensive 2yr old Jeep Wrangler to drive my '19 black on black FX4 every darn day. Home run Ford Motor!
@@jamesturpin9091 Hey Rick. Yeah when I was looking for trucks I liked how the Tacoma looked but yeah its definitely smaller. The ranger for a fact has more room. My dad will drive it sometimes and hes 6'1 and he fits comfortably in it so I would say its roomier than the Tacoma. If you want more cab room go with the Ranger in my opinion.
My son just purchased a blue 2019 Lariet and brought it over for its first oil change. It was really easy, he did it it himself with me supervising, lol. It seems to be a really nice truck and is perfect for him if he is going to own a truck. He purchased a 2018 F150 and complained it was too big for him, so this is just right. He prob bought a truck because I have always owned trucks. I think he made a good decision, but the Lariet version was more than he needed.
@ 95k miles, 2019 XLT FX4. 18inch Goodyear Wranglers and level kit. No Tune but will be getting one, and want to upgrade to LED housings, other then that all I have done is the bambi mod, and took all the warning dings through forscan. Running like a champ, hauls rear end when I need it, and the thing hauls everything I need it to which on my property is basically a trailer filled with manure. This engine really surprised me. Couldn't be happier.
Purchased a new 2019 ranger lariat last month (121 mi on it)! I love it! Totally agree with bed height, I’m 5’4 so it really sucks!! As for tie downs I found the perfect solution for $15 at Walmart....adjustable cargo net that fits 5 & 6 ft beds, I leave it attached at all times and adjust bungee cord length if I need to.
I traded my 2017 F150 Coyote for a 2019 Ranger super cab because they don't make a regular cab and I only need room for one passenger. I got the XLT with a rear locker in 2WD since we rarely get any snow I don't need a 4WD. Tow package and premium paint, $25500 and it fits in my garage with room to spare something the F150 struggled to do.
hi, you just have to turn the tire to right to get to the filter, its actually a really easy oil change, takes less then 30-45 mins, the filter is in a easy spot to get good leverage on it.
A couple years ago , when my 1999 Ranger with 150k on it was rear ended by a twit with a phone in her hand I damn near cried. I had hoped that it was going to serve me for may years to come. That changed the next day when the insurance rep " totalled " it and cut me a check for what I had paid for it 4 years earlier. Sorry for the rambling , but I miss the simpler days and simpler machines. Cars and trucks that cost years of gross income in most cases ? WTH ?
5/11/19, This is what happens w/all-purpose vehicles. Do you need a truck or a car? None do it all flawlessly. I live in a rural area, I have a Taurus AWD w/a trailer hitch, I have one of those light 4x6' mesh trailers from Lowe's for compost dump/cash-carry. This configuration is cheaper than a truck especially if I don't always need a truck.
My second one I only had 4 months. It was totalled when a guy crossed over 4 lanes of traffic and hit me head on, he squashed it from the right head light to the front of the driver's door. I know how you feel.
Bill I feel you man, I know your pain. I had a 1993 ford ranger light green 4x4 with 180k was on my way to work in the winter at 4am to plow snow. Some old retired guy came at me head on in my lane so I pulled off to the side of the road to avoid a head on and this guy slammed into my front fender and all down the side of my truck was destroyed. Insurance wrote it off. I loved that truck I was so mad. Guy was on his way to tim Hortons at 4am.
According to people on here the old Rangers were indestructable yet your piece of shit was written off when rear ended. What's up with that ? Since when do trucks hold their value for 4 years ?
I have the 2019 Ford Ranger supercrew and I love it. My whole family loves it. And about the oil changes I got that coverd from the dealer for 3 years.
I think it would still be worth a test drive for me. Sometimes a midsize truck just fits in your life better. What fun to be a kid in your household. Great video
The only problem with midsize trucks is the ease of putting in baby/child seats. Same problem with full size trucks with double cabs vs. crew cab. We had to go for a full size crew cab to fit our growing family for now. Down the road though, I could see myself going to a sporty midsize.
@@mikec3454 I once made the same decision. It was between a full-size crew cab pickup and a mini-van. It wasn't a hard choice for me as I imagine it wasn't for you! LOL. Mini-vans are great actually and I really get why people buy them for kids. Me? Not so much. I'd love a small mid-size pickup when the kids get older. For now, I'll drive my reg cab '62 Chevy C10.
I have a 2001 Ranger 4x4 XLT extended cab with 189,000 miles on the odometer. The 4.0 liter V6 is slippery smooth. In 2010, a tree fell on it during a storm and crushed the cab and put holes on the roof, dented the bonnet, crushed both the rear suicide doors, and dented one fender. It was a tragic day for me. I jacked up the roof so I can sit in it and sort of rounded it off so it looked sort of like a pickup truck cab, bent the rear suicide doors into enough shape so they worked, siliconed the holes in the roof, changed the bent lead spring, and she was road worthy once more. She runs and drives like new, though she looks like armageddon hit her. But I love the smooth engine. I will not be buying the new Ranger until a worthy engine is put into it. I love the look. Hate the turbo 4 cylinder.
man-i got a 2003 ranger edge with the 4.0-shes got 303k on it with original engine and trans! still pulls a 10ft trailer with all the stuff i ever need to pull and 4x4 works real nice! bought it for $1500 from my old company. cant beat the old ones-screw getting a small 4x4 for almoat $40k
@@benrent6625 We call four cylinder turbo engines, "grenades." They will not get to 150,000. Traditionally, a four cylinder turbo is a very poor combination. Some of the company cars with four cylinder turbos are already becoming junk at just 90,000. I tell the company not to buy them. They do not listen. Then they want me to fix them when they go bad. How do I fix something that needs a new engine?
For those balking at the price. When i was shopping for a new truck back in 2002. The ranger extended cab xlt 4x4 were going for around $24,500 the f150 xlt crew cab was around $29,000. Fast forward 2019 the lariat rangers are $45k the lariat f150 is $55k msrp. They follow a pretty standard price curve. If you think its to much stop buying fullsize trucks that cost over $50k.
People forget that those prices in 2002 are comparable to the current ranger prices in 2019 adjusting for inflation

@@DragoVids In 2002 I bought a Ranger XLT 2wd. standard cab 6 foot bed 2.3L 5 speed manual trans for $11,200 NEW. The 2019 XL basic is more then double that. You telling us inflation has gone up 100+% in the last 17 years? PS: My 2002 is sitting in my driveway right now. No 2019 will be joining it.
I bought a 2yo Supercrew F-150 XLT 4x4 with just under 60,000 miles for roughly half the price of a new one. I'm in my late 40's and may never own another brand new vehicle. Just not worth the price tag IMO.
I dont know why everyone's complaining about price. It's the day in age we live in. Yeah they are expensive. I buy them like 2 years used now. Used to buy new not anymore
If I've learned anything about car reviews/car people it's that they will complain about literally anything and everything. It's too big, too expensive, 4cyl., not a v8, no manual (even though nobody drives those anymore and manuals are a thing of the past,) looks like *insert competitor here*, it's ugly, looks nothing like *insert model here*, why can't we have what we had in the 1930s, unreliable, color is ugly, grill is too big. In the end, it's not like they're going to buy the car anyway. It's even funnier when people are critiquing something like a Porsche or Ferrari as if they can actually afford one/are in the market for one.
@@camel717 I have three vehicles with manual transmissions. I love them. I do think they put some ugly colors on some of the new cars, but that isn't new. They also put some really nice colors too. Myself I like white vehicles the best because they are cooler in the summer. Every vehicle comes in white.
Towing capacity on the new ranger supercrew 4x4 is 3500 pounds without the towing package. (Load attached to bumper) With the towing package, the tow rating is 7500 pounds. Towing package on the Ranger is simply a 7 pin harness and hitch receiver.
You win the internet today with that jam session with the kids. That had me cracking up! Looking at picking up a 2021 Ranger. Thank you for your videos.
Been researching this truck for 8 months and it is perfect for what I need. I just sold my 07 F150 and loved it but it was just too big. It is a life style truck that checks all the boxes for a family. Well done Ford. You have a well rounded truck that will fit the lifestyle of many families. Most folks need something they can drive to work on the road and use for light off-roading or snow driving. For all those folks that say it’s overpriced, I would ask you to compare the price of a similarly equipped 2019 mid sized truck. Trucks writ large have dramatically increased in price over the last 20 years. For the folks that negatively comment on the engine. I would offer the historic feedback on the eco boost engines over the last five years, which has been overall good. Please compare and contrast all facets of the truck and you will find it’s is competitively priced. That said. I am always looking forward to any discounts!
The MSRP is indeed too much. A loaded XLT will run 40K. For that no leather, no mud flaps, no bed liner, and the shitty sony Head unit. A tacoma offroad or limited with leather, sunroof, bedliner, and upgraded JBL system will cost the same. The XLT will feel and look very plain in comparison. I know. Just test drove everything recently. Ford bundles are a hot mess and they nickel and dime for everything. I ended up getting a loaded Nissan Pro 4X. 35K out the door. For that it comes standard with spray bed liner with utility track, Nice looking roof rack, 31 inch all terrain tires, dana 44 locker with skid plates, 4X4 hi/low with descend control, VQ40 4.0 liter with a ton of torque. Real MPG's on that is pretty close to the eco which sucks too much when under boost. I get 18 city and 21 HWY. Better then what the sticker says. Nobody is getting what Ford claims. Tell me with a straight face your getting 22 city and 24 Hwy. I doubt it. Inside the Frontier has leather, 8 way power seats (including recline Sorry ford) and a back seat that folds flat (sorry ford again), nav, bt, sat and a 10 speaker rockford fosgate with sub and a sunroof. The Nissan is considered the most reliable now. Bullet proof truck. Test drove all of them and the Ranger is just not worth it. To get the stuff I have on the Pro 4X I would have to buy a lariat. And that would have been 10K more. Don't tell me this is competitive price wise. Not even remotely so. For what they want for a lariat you can buy a ZR2 diesel with front and back lockers. And it will still cost 3K less. The Zr2 is more in line in offroad performance with the Ford Raptor. Ford's capacity is really bad now with only 9K trucks in the first quarter. With such limited capacity its not hard to get full MSRP. Once they fill the pipe these will be a really hard sell. You better believe it. Maybe if they had offered the 3.2 diesel like they do overseas I would have bought it. I owned a 2014 XLT in the Fiji Islands with the 5 cylinder 3.2 Was really looking forward to that. I might have paid up to 42K for that in XLT trim. But knowing Ford, they probably want 50K for it if they made it. They have 3 great diesels overseas and all they offer is a 2.3 that sucks more gas then the 2.7 does in the full size. Still trying to get my head around that one. Now the justice department has a criminal prope as to why the reported MPG's are not what people are getting. As you may remember, earlier in the year Ford had some employees report to their internal whistle blower alert system. Now its a hot mess at Ford. Also do hand calculations for mileage. Many reports on the Ranger say it not accurate and says your getting more then you really are.
With all due respect. First, I want to say nice looking truck. However, it's a truck not a Prius, I am absolutely shocked that people complain about the box being height when it's a truck, I just don't get the complaint. Secondly, it should not have paddle shifters. Those are for rice, burning foreign cars, not American vehicles. The shifting buttons are perfectly placed on the side of the shifter. Paddle shifters are fake unrealistic for "young kids" The Shifting button placement reminds me of driving a manual with them being on the side of the shifter. I personally think the tiedowns are perfectly placed, and a way to remedy that situation all together is put a really nice hard tunnel cover like a retracts pro. To change the oil, simply turn the wheels all the way to the passenger side. There is no reason to take the wheel off oil changes on these are extremely easy. Simply get an oil filter socket and a long extension piece of cake.
I test drove one and I really like it. The problem is $40k for a truck is a lot to ask. I know Toyota is getting the same for a Tacoma, it's just that people's incomes all have not kept up with vehicle prices. The other thing is fuel economy. My 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD get better fuel economy on diesel than that and when towing my pop up camper which is close to his test load my highway fuel economy stays in the low 20s not 13mpg. On top of that it only has a 5 speed automatic. So while I like the truck I'm going to keep my Jeep and bank my coin until I have to buy a new vehicle. It's a nice truck but just not worth trading an old paid of vehicle that runs good for something new and pretty that costs so much to buy and uses more fuel.
I'm 62. I've been a Ford man through and through since forever. '66 Mustang fastback, '69 Mach 1, pickups from the '40's through the early '70's. Bought a brand new '77 fully loaded 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup for $6000. Bought a new Ranger 4x4 in 1986 for $11,000. A two wheeler in 2008 for $8,000. My point is is that I don't know who can afford a $35,000+ Ranger these days. There are something like 6 million new cars in America that have not been sold. I'd offer 'em 15 grand for one and then just walk out when they laughed at me.
Man your absolutely right I don't know what their smoking. I went back to the old trucks and have restored a 77 and a 85 f150 4x4. I drive the 85 through the winters and save the 77 for the summers. I've got 15000 thousand invested in parts and I've done all my own work on them. I will continue to make upgrades and improvements down the road. Hope someone at ford wakes up and realizes we need the old work truck not the new fangled crap.
@@shackman9566 Companies can't make "old trucks" anymore, safety and MPG requirements mean they have to focus on big crumple zones, expensive back-up cameras and airbags, weird aerodynamic bodies, and efficient engines over powerful ones. Also all you folks who think 15K in the 80's is the same as 15K now. It's not.
At 62, you probably remember that a nice house was $20k. Butter was the $.70 cent spread. A large bottle of Coke was $ .10. Inflation has hit everything.
I own a 2020 ranger xlt 4x4 and I LOVE it. But everything that you don’t like about it, I totally agree. Except the bed height. I don’t mind that. The thing that stresses me is the bed tie down locations. Lol. As i see it, these are small potatoes for an awesome truck. Great video. Very truthful and honest. 👍
the tow package is good for 7500# towing on all trims, I tow 4000#-4500# (depending on load) with mine. It's a 22' camper trailer, and it tows no problem at all.
@@TheDavis7029 I've not made a long trip with it yet, but on my test run (with heavy acceleration) it got between 10 and 12mpg. I'm sure on longer trips it would be closer to 15.
Stephen Powlingham it’s a 3.73 ratio. They only offer a single package with every trim coming with a tow/haul mode button, and the 2.3t engine. The towing package is the hitch l, and the 7-way trailer plug. You have to install your own brake controller which is super easy.
Thanks for the video. A couple comments. Your "Bad" comments are pretty typical. A) You don't need a tailgate damper.. it's a truck. Some of us don't want to pay for stuff that is merely fluff. Less is more. B) If you're a DIY'er you'll change the oil and rotate the tires at the same time. Therefore accessing the oil filter from the wheel well is not a big deal. C) I agree with your comments about the shifter and the tie downs
I own a 1995 Ford Ranger, standard cab, XLT, with the 2.3L, 4 cylinder engine, 5 speed manual tranny, and 2 WD. It has over 160,000 miles on it. I maintain it well, have replaced things as they needed it, and changed the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. It is a very reliable truck. I still get about 35 MPG on the highway, and about 27 MPG city and going up and down the mountains where I live which have a lot of switchbacks. I think, compared to mine, the fuel economy on the new Ranger sucks, from what you have reported. I also don't like the fact that the new truck is not available with a manual transmission. Here in the mountains I use my engine to assist with braking on the downgrades, and a manual transmission is needed for this. I have seen the new Ranger in person. It is much bigger than the old truck, about as big as the old F150 used to be. It is no longer a small truck. It is a mid sized truck. Perhaps this is why it is now so expensive. It also has a lot of bells and whistles that should be options, not standard. Many of us who bought the Ranger in the past bought it as an economical working truck. We don't need all the fancy gee-gaws. Because of all this, I would NEVER buy the new Ranger. Sorry, Ford, you blew it with this one. I love my old Ranger, and hoped the new one would follow on in the footsteps of the old ones, but it has gone down the yuupie-duppie path, and abandoned the principles that once made it great.
a manual transmission is not needed you idiot. Theres paddles and manual low gearing on almost every new car for just this thing. No one cares about your stupid post. Go write a blog
I have an xlt with the fx4 package and I am loving it Edit: I mostly got it to haul mountain bikes and for camping, also I got 8k in rebates and discounts
It's the Lariat version though, it's for people who don't care about money and absolutely must have massaging seats and HD 21.9 surround sound speakers. The base Ranger is almost half the price of the Lariat version.
My buddy has one and he swears the gas mileage is great and THE COLOR THAT YOUR MODEL IS NICE, it’s got a real truck feel, the old ranger was not as roomy siting in it! , but the ranger long bed was big , but the cab was cramped
I bought the 2019 Ranger fx4 and the first thing I did was tell the dealer to change the wheels and tires American Racing with Cooper AT3 I will say it rides very good and I have more fun it it then my 2020 Lariat FX4 150 5.0 It was hard to justify the price at first but after owning it for 6 months its well worth the money
My daily driver for the last 17 years has been a 1997 XLT Ranger. I drove a new Ranger yesterday and really liked it. The bed height on the new one is a valid point. Much lower and easier to do on my old Ranger.
I have a 2019 XLT FX4 super crew and I love it. I bought it in February and It's my third Ranger. I currently own two, a 96 XLT and the 19. I agree about the bed height and the oil filter placement but it's a great truck.
@talon55130 this ain’t my first or second ranger. I’m glad you’re hitting them big time numbers with your 2002. I also bet you’re blowing doors off the car next to you at the red light. You want to hate on the 19s go ahead but you keep telling yourself how cool your 2002 is.
Just bought a new 2019 Ford Ranger XLT Sport 4X2. So far the only complaints I have, and I agree with what was said on this video, is the truck bed height is to tall, I'm only 5'7 and it's kind of a pain. Also we have rain grooves on our freeways in CA and the rear end seems sort of squirrely. I drive a mix of surface streets and freeways and I have not gotten anything better than 19.2 MPG and I'm not always on the pedal. Other than that I love it! Going to use this truck for the occasional towing of a small trailer for camping and taking me and my mountain bike to the trail heads! Thanks for this very informative video.
A $40k Ranger!? Stupid! That shouldn't exist. Rangers were successful because they were small, rugged, and cheap trucks....and now look.....almost as large as an F150 and right at the same price. Why buy it?
No auto-maker is ever going to make a small truck like the old ranger ever again. Safety requirements by the government means large crumple zones. MPG requirements mean big swooping body panels that make the vehicle more aerodynamic. And the only people paying 40K for a ranger are those who don't care about money and want heated, massaging seats with a big fancy sound system. You folks acting like this is the only version seem to completely ignore the XL version which is the same vehicle with the same engine, but nearly half the price.
I went from a 2011 Ranger V6 to a 2019 Ranger XLT Sport (crew cab). I really like it. It's way faster than the 2011 with better gas mileage. It does cost more but it offers more. I got use to the bed height. The bed hooks are not a problem either. Mine is a 2WD, so no issue with the shifter. I also have the service package, so I am not concerned about the oil filter location.
Your comment on the oil filter was golden. I would never even think to ask a dealer salesperson about that because I assumed no engineer would be stupid enough to design a truck that way. Thanks for the info!!
Good video! I agree with you on oil filter location, manual shift buttons location & the gate dropping. No reason ford could not have used a remote oil filter located under the hood. My oil Vortec S10 Blazer had a remote filter.
The contrast between US build and UK build [made in South Africa] Ranger is very interesting. I’m getting a new model in about four weeks. All apart from Raptor here have leaf rear springs and can carry 2400lbs in the bed and two 7700lbs. The engine choice currently [June 2023] is limited to two diesels, a 2.0 twin tube with 204hp and 500Nm torque and a 3.0 V6 that was recently fitted to your F150, Range Rover and Discovery. Yes, the oil filter change is difficult even on my 2014 2.2 diesel Ranger T6. The current model is the T6.2 by the way and in your test it is the T6.1
@@pahuntnut I owned a 2006 nismo 6 speed manual; nothing but trouble, rusted like crazy, on-off clutch pedal meant the truck just wasn't fun to drive. Electrical gremlins, etc. Missed my 93 Ranger.
Eugene Vinson never said anything bad about rangers. The new ones are different trucks altogether so yours,as such, isn’t a current truck you can buy new.
Great honest review. Really like the truck. More comfortable than Tacoma. Looks good. Size is perfect. Don’t want a big truck anymore. Just subscribed!
For me there are 3 major design flaws on the new ranger; 1} No dividable rear seats. So with one Isofix child seat. The additional (hidden) space below and behind is practically unusable. With a 40/60% split this would be better. 2) The antenna on the rear of the cabin makes it hard to mount a larger then 5 foot roof top tent. I would prefer an internal one or front mounted. So if buy one, I will probably mount a front roof spoiler with some lights and mount a flat antenna underneath. 3) Sadly the European/Asian version has no storage on top of the dash.
Anhhh get off internet a get serious about checking one out at ur local Ford store! Its powertrain & technology plus build quality an ohhh the ride is very plush. Its Daddy Is the F150 afterall.
I just bought 1......so far the one thing I don't like.....its way bigger than my old ranger Owned it for 3 days, drove it half mile to show mom-n-law, 4 miles to show brother This has got a lot more than any car I've ever owned Yes height, noticed that right off......included in way bigger than my old ranger I didn't think about the tie downs Engineers are paid too much, they don't have to do the maintenance, so they don't consider it when designing but also there are specific easy step to take to do things.....its just these steps don't just jump out at you.......you need the book
Purchased a 2019 FX4 Lariat last October traded my 19 Tundra when you are hitting $10 a gallon in Canada a Tundra is for $$$$$ the Rich this one gets great mileage and it’s a comfy ride Miss the 6.5’ bed though
I bought one last week and I love it. It is just my size, and I still have my F150 if I need to haul or tow something really big. I will say, I also notice the off shake or vibration, especially at speed or trying to accelerate hard. Not sure what that is. I would take it in, but the dealer we have does not have the brightest bulbs for mechanics, I barely trust them to change the oil. I am not a fan of the tires, for $40k, could we not have gotten some Good Year? Seriously, Hankook is a cheap Chinese tire, I would rather have something made in the USA. The Good Years on my 16 Edge have been great and with over 105k highway miles on them, they still have a decent amount of thread on them. The Good Years that came on my 13 F150 also lasted nearly 90K. I am going to cry if I don't get at least 75k out of the Hankooks. I am concerned about the 20k mile Oil Change, that seems super long. Guess we will see.
Every automaker builds ridiculously over-complex junk anymore, 99% of that crap most people don't want or need that actually want a truck for its intended purpose, towing/hauling....they're just building trucks to cater to the soccer mom mall crawler crowd who have no idea how to actually drive a truck let alone pull a trailer.
I was in the market for a small truck, and ended up with an 09 Ranger, 5 sp. I want a small truck. All these "new?" mid sizes are the same as old full sizes
Hm, the Australien Ranger I drive in Germany is different to the US Model: 1. I can manually shift by just turning the shifter to the left and then shift up and down. 2. I have various additional possibilities to tie down loads in the bed.
I dont know how I missed this one... I hate the Tacoma's seating-even with the improvement. I bet the Ranger would fit most people's truck requirements. The 2.3 is no slouch. :)
There was no improvement to Tacoma seating. The actual cab size is the exact same as it was in 2005. They added a button the raise the seat which actually makes it worse. Why would you want to go up when peoples heads are already cramped. They need to redesign and make the cab larger to fit peoples heads.
The only complaint I agree with is the oil change it’s bs spot for an oil filter, turn the tire then turn the truck off it makes it easier. The plastic transmission pan and all the extra unnecessary sensors and what not is annoying but it’s pretty good.
Changing the oil filter is no fun, but if you jack it up and spin the steering wheel as far as it can go left, you'll be able to access it without taking the wheel off.
I'd like to see an additional engine option with this truck a twin turbo 2.7 liter would fit nicely.. overall its ah cool little truck looks plenty capable!!
i have a 1999 ford ranger with a v6 3.0L and it only produces 150hp. They make really powerful v4 engines these days and the newest ford rangers got em.
With all the bad PR Ford has been getting because of the oil change difficulty, I am surprised that Ford has not done a video on how to change the oil on a 2019 ranger. It must be more difficult than Ford is admitting...
The Tacoma is just as bad or maybe even worse. My Chevy Colorado oil filter is up in the engine bay and easy to get to. Even with skids on... which is awesome!
people have called me crazy for doing it but I actually trade it in a 2016 f150 on a 2019 Ranger and literally have zero regrets. It's got plenty of power and this is coming from a guy that used to own a 5.0 V8 with upgrades. Honestly my only two complaints about it are the fact that there's not a turbo v6 option like maybe the 2.7 that they put in the F-150 because let's just be honest there is no good exhaust note on a four-cylinder. As discussed in the video the bed height was an issue for yours truly as well. Overall though this truck had features at 37000 that my F-150 did not have 45. Also for those wondering I have 11,500 miles on the truck.
@@Pickuptrucktalk definitely a size difference but in a good way I can actually park in more places now. there was a time when I was traveling more for work and no joke I actually couldn't park in the garage at my hotel in Atlanta because the F-150 was too tall. 🤷🏼♂️
This is a South America thing. Certainly that a 2.3 liter turbo is much more fun than a Diesel one. My disappointment is not have a 2.3 liter here available.
I just traded my 2020 lariat 150 for a 2020 built by the dealer Ranger and I'm enjoying it more then the 150 I currently have 2 of the Rangers now and when I'm able to get my hands on a new Bronco I'll trade the 2019 Ranger Loved the part with the children in back was just priceless Thank you Tim for the great videos
Video was ok, thinking about getting a ranger. Just noticed a couple slip ups. Your mpg fasting was for two wheel drive not four and you said it was a 2.7 while driving with your kids.
When they first announced the Ranger was coming back. I got super excited. I have my F250 power stroke for when I need that but it is over kill for a daily driver quick grab and go rig. Figured a Ranger would fill the bill. Then I saw what they were offering and just how friggin much it cost. 30 grand? yea kiss my ... What would be perfect for me is a XL trim 4 wd standard cab long bed. For road trips we take the decked out mini van. I want one just to get to work, make a quick Menard's run ect. Plus this size would fit in my attached garage. For less money I can get a F150 4wd XL model. Or if I really want to short shaft you. I can get a Ram 1500 trades man for even less. But that would be a sin. Dont force me to sin. Sell me the truck I want.
Same in the Philippines. 2.2L turbo diesel. A 2x2, 6 speed manual transimission is $21,400. Add $1745 for the same in a 4x4. All Ranger models sold in the Philippines are turbo diesels (most of the world actually).
I just bought the ranger XLT crew. I thought the tie downs were kinda odd as well, and I dont even have middle ones, they are missing. Im going to inquire about them when I am next at the dealer, which will probably be for when the plates come in. I put about 1000lbs behind it today, and didnt even notice I was towing. Thats a big improvement over my 98 ranger. That truck has served me well, towing scrap 2000-2800 pounds at a time, towing minivans, even a ram, with it's 5spd manual 2.5 4 cyl, but you know you have a load behind you even if you just have a riding mower on a trailer. I was hoping to see that truck to 300k miles, it has 220 now. But a leaky windshield, tailgate that needs to be strapped on and turning my headlights on with pliers, plus covid deals of 0% for 84 months made it stupid to bother keeping it any longer. I paid 9 grand for it 20 years ago, it has given me very little trouble, I hope this new ranger is just as tough.
I just test drove all the midsized. The Ranger: It was weird. It was a pretty truck, and a bit more comfortable seating. It did feel more like a Ford in the cockpit. The little 4 cylinder Ecoboost with that transmission is notchy. You can feel all ten gears. It feels like a stutter. I don’t know how they did it but Ford managed to replicate the driving experience of a ’72 Lincoln Continental. It sways to and fro. When you steer, the truck kind of catches up sometime. It’s like a vehicle without sway bars or shock absorbers. It’s like the tires are ten pounds low on air. Here’s the funny part, when you stomp on the gas, you get this killer V-8 sound… FROM THE SPEAKERS! Yup, they put fake engine noise in the cab to make you feel better. Where they screwed up on the Ranger is they could have made a nice suspension from the Raptor guys and slapped that V-6 ecoboost in it. Oh man, that would be a hotrod! (one I’d want) The Canyon is tight, yet comfortable. The seats are a bit firmer than the Ranger. The interior of the Canyon is nicer for sure. The Colorado is a bit Fisher Pricey. The engine feels SNAPPY compared to the Ranger heck it has 308 horsepower. All around, the Canyon feels so much nicer to drive. So, we bought one.
dampener is kind of a pointless expense for the ranger though, the tailgate is so light I can hold it up with one finger, so why on earth would I just let it slam down? In fact the first time I ever went to close my tailgate I nearly slammed it because it was so light.
Thanks for the review and honesty! I been eye balling them but for 40k its just little over the top for what the ranger is suppose to be. I just bought a 2012 f150 coyote and its been a nightmare so in a year im planning to trade it in & find something smaller and stuff.
You've got to realise that the Ford Ranger is an Australian ute that has been adapted to America. Over in Australia they're only have diesel engines one a 2.0L bi-turbo with a 10 speed and two a older 3.2L turbo with a 6 speed. And it does come in a Raptor version aswell. When it comes to the bed or what the Aussies call a tray look up what the Australians have done with their vehicles and you kinda get the idea for them.
If you are like me who likes simple things in life get a Nissan Frontier. I’m so tired of expensive trucks with so much high tech and harder to maintain it yourself. That oil filter location will be a deal breaker for a lot of folks.
Been driving my 2019 Ranger for one year now. I TOTALLY agree with all the negative thumbs down. 1. Yes, the bed is high, but that hasn't bothered me. It's that it is awkwardly small inside-and I didn't expect that. For me, it's the wheel wells that seem bigger in the smaller bed. They don't allow hauling some normal things that would have fit between the wells. 2. The dropping tailgate was the first thing I went "Whoa!" about. 3. The Tie-downs are rediculous!!!!!!!!!! Who the heck said those were where they belong???? 4. The gear shifter is like for a lady's hand and thumb. I was wearing shooting gloves this winter and it was not easy to feel the switch. 5. If I had known where the oil filter was, I would have signed up for the free oil changes at the dealership!!!! All of the positives mentioned in the video about the truck: totally agree. It's a fun truck and I have had dozens of men stop me to ask about how I like it-another thing I did not expect when I bought it!
I'm completely sold, on the Tacoma. Do revisit all this in 5 or 6 years. Resale will be different. Repair costs will be wildly different. This is an expensive vehicle, short and long term.
I looked a Tacoma, I don't fit. The cab is to small. Toyota dropped the ball on the Tacoma. I would have to buy the Tundra to fit, and with that 55K price, that is NOT going to happen. Ford has a good truck product, if you change your oil at every max 5K miles. The sludge and varnish even with synthetic is bad. Just look at other videos on the subject. People make the mistake and not do that. I change my oil and filter every 3K , or six months. I have a 2018 Challenger v-6 with 7800 miles and I am taking it in to get the fourth oil change. Oil is cheap. I love my Challenger, but my two dogs are ruff on the interior even with seat covers. So I'm thinking of buying a small 4x4 pickup or Jeep. I don't need the Lariat edition.
I owned a 2010 Tacoma TRD off road and hated that thing. Most uncomfortable vehicle of all time. Also the AC broke constantly. I am not driving something that horrible for 6 years ever again.
People complain about price but realistically there is a point where size isnt going to make it cheaper. America is about the only place where big trucks are common and affordable to the common man
1. its a truck bed with off road package of course its high 2. a dampened tailgate? just set it down with your hands are you that lazy? Or buy a dampening kit they are cheap. 3.paddle shifters? with the 10 speed i find it impossible to manually shift anyway its way better to just put it in sport and go. good video though I did enjoy it. I have the hot pepper red Lariat and I think I'm in love.
My guess would be that the US market is the only one where this "international" Ranger has the EcoBoost engine? I know other markets have non-turbo gas engines and a diesel, though the diesel is probably turbocharged. As such, Ford decided that with such an old design (this model has been available in other markets for 4-5 years already) any needed changes could wait until the next model change. But like others here, any Ford product I have owned came with an oil filter location that dumped some of the old oil on the vehicle's frame and then on the road. Me? I had a 94 Ranger and I am royally ticked that this new one does not offer a manual. Chevy, Nissan, and I believe Toyota (or at least until 2018) offered a manual transmission. Oh, well.
I got a great deal on my fully loaded SuperCrew XLT. No leather but it has SYNC, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring (which even works with a trailer attached, very cool), automatic braking, auto high beams, etc. and it’s been one of the best daily drivers and has absolutely no issue towing around a 16’ trailer with my 2,000lb race car in it. Mine was $29K out the door with 0 down and 0% interest.
Ford designed the oil filter to be a pain in the butt so that you would just go ahead and bring it to your dealer to get it changed....more money for ford service centers!
will geo I would not trust them to change the filter they may just change the oil and leave the filter just like they did on my eco-boost 3.5 I had marked the filter before I went in so I know they did not change it. You can not trust the dealership to do things right you need to do it yourself if you want it done right.
@@stevenlefebvre2991 Nvm the dealerships. Don't trust Sears to do more than 70% of what they are supposed to. Oh, that's right: they're going out of business; what a coincidence.
you think thats bad. you should see the diesel engine version of these rangers in australia. you have to drain the oil and change the filter all within 10 minutes, you cannot let the sump drain all the way out. if you do the oil pump will never prime and you will blow the oil pump up completely possibly junking your engine lol.
Tim since you know about trucks which one is better 2.3 vs 2.7 ? for new ford bronco, price is not the issue only $400 difference thank you if you know reliable wise no towing just me. since I have to order in december before car shows up in june 21 thanks
Higher bed rails allow you to fit taller and more items under your tono cover. For example the ABR off road refrigerator is 17” high or truck Decked drawer still allowing room above it.
Still love my Ranger, but… Ford has a major issue with the 2.3 EB’s allowing fuel into the sump. I had 7.8 quarts in the 6.2 quart sump. I had done an oil change with 6 quarts and it was right at the crosshairs line. Well… they thought it was the HPFP. Replaced that.. and it’s still happening. Now they are doing more tests and here’s to Ford actually fixing it. I’m not alone in this.. plenty of people on the Ranger forum saying the EXACT SAME THING
Here is some more Ford meets dirt with our 2019 Ford Raptor review. Check it out! th-cam.com/video/NOrMTxutJYw/w-d-xo.html
Can you tow a small camper with it? The new Ford ranger?
Christopher Brown yes. Most small campers are in the 2-3k lbs range, so this should tow that pretty easy.
They tow 5000lb Campers with the Diesel versions we have here in Australia
There is a rated test 0-60mph( 100kmh)with 5000lb Campers done with all Global Pickups
No problem! Yes, kids love off-roading. Raising them right imo.
I was thinking the exact same thing
"The front tie-down can't be lower, or else the wheel-bump will be in the way. I'm pretty sure this is close to the standard tie-down configurations of pretty much all trucks. If you want more, you can literally put them in yourself."
That's why I wish more manufacturers would just put multiple tie downs in each corner.
@@karlschauff7989 GM, I can't do it for so many reasons. Taco, Hell no, I'm, too big to fit into a little cab. Nissan, Oh hell no. Ford, thank you!!!!
Hey. Im 6 foot tall. My onkt concern is i was uncomfortable in the tacoma after awhile. Is the ranger more comfortable?
Hi any issues? Lot of peuple say écoboost engine is not reliable and probs with transmission
That changed the next day when the
insurance rep " totalled " it and cut me a check for what I had paid for it 4 years earlier.
Bill, that’s EXACTLY how my buddy lost his last Ranger!
Because oil changes are so expensive.
I think it would still be worth a test drive for me. Sometimes a midsize truck just fits in your life better. What fun to be a kid in your household. Great video
Hopefully, they will remember all this fun when they get older and think I'm wrong about everything! LOL
Looked at all the new '19 small trucks . The Ranger is best riding & best styling plus the linear power cant be beat. Bought a new '19 Ranger XLT FX4!
Congrats on the new pickup!
The 2.3 with the 10 speed is an amazing combination. Still in 2024 its the best midsize drivetrain.
I’m just glad your 5 complaints are incredibly minor won’t effect my decision on buying, I can get past those things.thanks for the vid.
Enjoy your truck!
Well said, it's a truck!
Just bought a 2021 used ranger xlt with 18k miles. so far I love it, great truck.
It's not.
Well said
Well, adjusted for inflation, that $6k in 1977 is comparable to $25k now. And in 1986, that $11k is $27k now. Not a huge difference.
Just picked one up and it's great. Lots of pep and good mileage. They also make tunes for it if you want even more power.
the tow package is good for 7500# towing on all trims, I tow 4000#-4500# (depending on load) with mine. It's a 22' camper trailer, and it tows no problem at all.
What is your mpg towing that camper?
@@TheDavis7029 I've not made a long trip with it yet, but on my test run (with heavy acceleration) it got between 10 and 12mpg. I'm sure on longer trips it would be closer to 15.
What's the rear axle ratio? Do they offer a towing axle? A towing package (HD radiator, HD alternator etc.)? Thanks.
I agree with you about the oil filter placement. It is so stupid to take the tire off to change the oil.
It's a nice pickup truck, but the previous old size make more sense for my daily use.
I have an xlt with the fx4 package and I am loving it
Edit: I mostly got it to haul mountain bikes and for camping, also I got 8k in rebates and discounts
40k for a small truck is absurd.
It's the Lariat version though, it's for people who don't care about money and absolutely must have massaging seats and HD 21.9 surround sound speakers. The base Ranger is almost half the price of the Lariat version.
Josh Owrns Holy sheep shit bro! I feel for you. 😢
Tacoma trucks get up there in price too
It's literally the same price as a Tacoma, Colorado and Ridgeliine with similar options.
Damn 40k it’s like the price of a full size truck.
My buddy has one and he swears the gas mileage is great and THE COLOR THAT YOUR MODEL IS NICE, it’s got a real truck feel, the old ranger was not as roomy siting in it! , but the ranger long bed was big , but the cab was cramped
Oil changes are actually not bad at all, crank the wheel to the right and there is plenty of room
I bought the 2019 Ranger fx4 and the first thing I did was tell the dealer to change the wheels and tires American Racing with Cooper AT3
I will say it rides very good and I have more fun it it then my 2020 Lariat FX4 150 5.0
It was hard to justify the price at first but after owning it for 6 months its well worth the money
Thanks for mentioning the placement of the oil filter. You’re the first to bring it up! Kudos!
Ditto.
My daily driver for the last 17 years has been a 1997 XLT Ranger. I drove a new Ranger yesterday and really liked it. The bed height on the new one is a valid point. Much lower and easier to do on my old Ranger.
Yeah, really stinks that you can't just reach into the bed.
I have a 2019 XLT FX4 super crew and I love it. I bought it in February and It's my third Ranger. I currently own two, a 96 XLT and the 19. I agree about the bed height and the oil filter placement but it's a great truck.
Holy crap someone with a positive comment thank you... What kind of MPG are you getting?
I'm getting about 19.5 mpg with a mix of town and highway driving
You say that now....
@talon55130 this ain’t my first or second ranger. I’m glad you’re hitting them big time numbers with your 2002. I also bet you’re blowing doors off the car next to you at the red light. You want to hate on the 19s go ahead but you keep telling yourself how cool your 2002 is.
@Star Lord you’re right, I do say that now.
Thanks for the comment.
A $40k Ranger!? Stupid! That shouldn't exist. Rangers were successful because they were small, rugged, and cheap trucks....and now look.....almost as large as an F150 and right at the same price. Why buy it?
Exactly!🍻
No auto-maker is ever going to make a small truck like the old ranger ever again. Safety requirements by the government means large crumple zones. MPG requirements mean big swooping body panels that make the vehicle more aerodynamic.
And the only people paying 40K for a ranger are those who don't care about money and want heated, massaging seats with a big fancy sound system. You folks acting like this is the only version seem to completely ignore the XL version which is the same vehicle with the same engine, but nearly half the price.
It's no longer 1990s, prices have gone up along with inflation.
Are the ford owner? Manager? Assistant? Supervisor?😂🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, you’re right and later on that rubber cover pin hole attachment is going to loosen up and end up changing the wheel well.
Golden?....NOT
Nissan Frontier is old tech, old design, and smaller than all the other so called mid size truck. BUT THEY WORK
Well, not for me they didnt. I owned two and will never buy another nissan product
Thanks!
For me there are 3 major design flaws on the new ranger;
1} No dividable rear seats.
I just bought 1......so far the one thing I don't like.....its way bigger than my old ranger
Owned it for 3 days, drove it half mile to show mom-n-law, 4 miles to show brother
This has got a lot more than any car I've ever owned
Yes height, noticed that right off......included in way bigger than my old ranger
I didn't think about the tie downs
Engineers are paid too much, they don't have to do the maintenance, so they don't consider it when designing
but also there are specific easy step to take to do things.....its just these steps don't just jump out at you.......you need the book
Love the kids off road reactions 👍🏼
Purchased a 2019 FX4 Lariat last October traded my 19 Tundra when you are hitting $10 a gallon in Canada a Tundra is for $$$$$ the Rich this one gets great mileage and it’s a comfy ride Miss the 6.5’ bed though
Perfect Ranger would be with 2.7L tt engine and 10K less 👍🏻
Bdw: try changing oil filter on 2019 RAM 1500 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
Guess we will see.
mine came with bridgestone duelers.
Don't wait that long! Turbos like clean oil.
I don’t own a truck yet but you’re review is awesome, I really agree with the dislikes about the bed and the oil change hassle. Good job!
I liked the old "Basic" Ranger for a small price.
Hey Ford - What happened to KISS? Keep It Simple Stupid!
I think they may be trying to compete with Toyota's Tacoma truck. Those trucks are nice but have way too many gadgets and are ovet priced for it.
The basic Ranger costs 24K. Cheaper than the Tacoma, and just a bit more expensive than the Colorado, but with a much more powerful engine.
I was in the market for a small truck, and ended up with an 09 Ranger, 5 sp. I want a small truck. All these "new?" mid sizes are the same as old full sizes
Do you really want crank windows, manual locks, less space, and no infotainment system?
Hm, the Australien Ranger I drive in Germany is different to the US Model:
Crazy you missed it. This is one of my most popular videos.
I can’t fit in Tacoma. But that Ranger oil filter is a deal breaker for me. No way Ford!
You'll fit in this better IMO.
Better stay away from honda, toyota, kia and a few others then too.. many of them you have to take a wheel off to change the filter...
Changing the oil filter is no fun, but if you jack it up and spin the steering wheel as far as it can go left, you'll be able to access it without taking the wheel off.
No need to jack it up at all
I'd like to see an additional engine option with this truck a twin turbo 2.7 liter would fit nicely.. overall its ah cool little truck looks plenty capable!!
i have a 1999 ford ranger with a v6 3.0L and it only produces 150hp. They make really powerful v4 engines these days and the newest ford rangers got em.
Thank you for this video! The oil filter alone is a big negative for me. Screw that....
Your welcome! Yeah, not a fan of that oil filter placement.
@@great0789 2013 Tacoma has filter under the hood...is what I have.
Mike Foehr Sounds like it is way better than the new Tacoma then.
Clip of you and the boys rumbling down the the farm was a great add
The bed should have been aluminum. After all, it is a Ranger.
people have called me crazy for doing it but I actually trade it in a 2016 f150 on a 2019 Ranger and literally have zero regrets.
Thanks for sharing and I don’t think you are crazy for trading in a F150. The Ranger is a better size for a lot of truck owners.
@@Pickuptrucktalk definitely a size difference but in a good way I can actually park in more places now. there was a time when I was traveling more for work and no joke I actually couldn't park in the garage at my hotel in Atlanta because the F-150 was too tall. 🤷🏼♂️
@@oocombz Yep. I've had a similar situation. Smaller trucks are useful in many different situations and just fit some people's lives better.
Here in Argentina the Ranger Limited gets a 3.2 inline 5 turbo diesel. Its strangr that its not available in the US.
This is a South America thing. Certainly that a 2.3 liter turbo is much more fun than a Diesel one. My disappointment is not have a 2.3 liter here available.
I just traded my 2020 lariat 150 for a 2020 built by the dealer Ranger and I'm enjoying it more then the 150
I currently have 2 of the Rangers now and when I'm able to get my hands on a new Bronco I'll trade the 2019 Ranger
Loved the part with the children in back was just priceless
Thank you Tim for the great videos
Hard to find a mid-size truck under 30k in a reg cab long box. Those days are gone I think.
I live in Thailand and have a 2018 2.2Lt. Diesel Ranger, loving it!
Sadly, this is not the same truck.
@@Pickuptrucktalk You want to bet?
Same in the Philippines. 2.2L turbo diesel. A 2x2, 6 speed manual transimission is $21,400. Add $1745 for the same in a 4x4. All Ranger models sold in the Philippines are turbo diesels (most of the world actually).
This truck has awesome torque & is fun to drive! You can buy the 2 seater for 23K before taxes.
Your boys were having so much fun :-) it's so cool. Great family fun. That's what I want.
Yeah, they love going off-road!
Yeah those finance deals are really incredible right now! Congrats on your new truck.
(one I’d want)
The Canyon is tight, yet comfortable.
Nothing worse than a bad pickup buy. Thanks for commenting!
How can you maintain your own truck when you cannot even remove a wheel to change the oil once a year
Been driving my 2019 Ranger for one year now.
Thank you for sharing. It is great to hear from an owner and see my concerns match your real-life experiences.
I used to own an old ford ranger and loved it. I was glad that Ford was bringing it back but getting to the oil filter just killed it for me.
Love how he said I'm going to cut though all the garbage
To get to the oil filter, pull the wheel off and the plastic splash guard in the wheel well.
Love my ranger... BUT, it spun a rod bearing at 7500 miles, so I had a new long block installed under warranty
Oof
How is it doing now?
Have 2019 Ford and they have made it harder to change the oil filter. Great engineering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Skip the hassle and get right to it." - The video that doesn't actually start telling you anything until 2 minutes in.
Hey, 2 mins is good for my blabbermouth! LOL
Post your review and we can see how perfect it is.
People complain about price but realistically there is a point where size isnt going to make it cheaper. America is about the only place where big trucks are common and affordable to the common man
Every kid would like a dad like you bro..
Thanks! I agree!
1. its a truck bed with off road package of course its high
2. a dampened tailgate? just set it down with your hands are you that lazy? Or buy a dampening kit they are cheap.
3.paddle shifters? with the 10 speed i find it impossible to manually shift anyway its way better to just put it in sport and go.
good video though I did enjoy it. I have the hot pepper red Lariat and I think I'm in love.
That oil change thing is crazy. I have a dodge journey and the same thing but with the battery. It's like what the hell are these engineers smoking!
@@stevenlefebvre2991
Nvm the dealerships.
@@stevenlefebvre2991 100% agreed!
You are totally right because people don’t what to get they hands dirty
cute video when the kids were having fun while you were driving fast over the bumps
Tim since you know about trucks which one is better 2.3 vs 2.7 ? for new ford bronco, price is not the issue only $400 difference thank you if you know reliable wise no towing just me. since I have to order in december before car shows up in june 21 thanks
that what I like about my 99 Nissan fronter its much lower than trucks are now
Higher bed rails allow you to fit taller and more items under your tono cover. For example the ABR off road refrigerator is 17” high or truck Decked drawer still allowing room above it.
@guy proulx the point is that a large percent use tono covers and have more room under the cover is a big bonus. No?
Hahahaha "off road refrigerator". If you have a fridge in the back of your 19 a/t gadget filled ranger, you are not offroading
I almost like everything in this truck!!!
Men don’t complain
PrimeDUBz what? Lol 😂
Good quick video...well done. And yes, it matters to house in the garage. But the 4 wheel drive tows less, did I hear that right?
