  • Gary and I installed some stainless steel slide runners under my two slides with teflon rollers. This will protect the wood and provide a good "track" for the rollers to run on. I recommend getting 1/16" plate over the 1/8" plate that I used.

    Maybe this will help those thinking about this fix. I have Columbus 5th wheel and my right front slide out had the exact same problem with the wood splitting from the rollers. The problem kept getting worse over time after several adjustments from the dealer that didn't work. I did the exact same fix with the same thickness in sheet metal over 3 years ago. The only added step I performed was I mixed a clear Epoxy and coated the wood underneath the slide to water seal it tight and then I applied the sheet metal. 3 plus years and she works flawlessly. This is a great fix that will outlast the ownership of the RV. Great video.....

    A 1/16" piece of HDPE would do the job as well, and at a fraction of the cost of stainless (and you can cut and drill it yourself with hand tools, so labor cost goes away as well).

      Wholeheartedly agree. I went bigger than I needed to but have learned more since. Still happy with the finished product.

    I am having issues with the slides running on the linoleum flooring and dug in in the middle section.
    I would think that adding this plate would only make my problem worse due to the extra material thickness under the slide.

    Great vid! I did something like this on our last trailer but new one is a bit different. It still needs a roller mod though.
    Did you find that the slide rubs the carpet inside any differently? Mine grinds into the carpet bad and no adjusting helps.
    Thanks!

    I have a 2014 norco accu slide. The right side roller caved in on the plywoord cause it is rotten. Slide did not operatate properly. You think i should take out plywood ? Im just afraid that i wont be able to properly replace peace without removing the whole slide. Really should replace it. Any videos on how to do that job

    Thanks for the information. Where would one begin to find hard plastic about 1/8" thick for the job?

    Could you do the same on a 2018 grande design 303 rls inside kitchen slide to keep the slide from floor tearing vinyl .

    After installation, did you have to adjust the slide in anyway?

    Do you use wood or metal screws to hold the plate in place?

      I used 1” wood screws as the plates were pre-drilled.

    Just curious....is it possible to damage the slide or get it out of adjustment lifting it up with jack this way?

    • @glampinggurus6033
      @glampinggurus6033  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did a ton of research and have not seen any issues with lifting the slides. I would say that it may be possible on a Schwintek style slide. Cable slides and hydraulic slides will work out great.

      @@glampinggurus6033 we have both on our Heartland Big Country 3560SS (which as 4 slides including a slide in a slide.). Seeing roller marks on underside of all of them. How did you measure for stainless steel plate length?

    • @glampinggurus6033
      @glampinggurus6033  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stevegreene6526 I took a tape measure, pulled back any seals and measured beyond the roller to the outer flange of the slide. For the Schwintek slides, I recommend 1/16” or 1/32” plate and use a mallet to gently tap past the roller.

      Agree with others, not on Rack and pinion but on a Scwintek slide, it can be damaged by excessive lifting. I installed .024" thick SS plate and was barely able to lift it enough to get it in.

    I assume the stainless is not scratching the floor inside?

    • @glampinggurus6033

      Not at all. The rollers on the inside keep the plates off the floor.
