On 7 October 2001, the United States launched Operation Enduring Freedom, a campaign that began the invasion of Afghanistan. That day marked the start of a war that did not come to an end until 31 August 2021, almost 20 years later, with the Taliban regaining power.
Many questions are now on the table: Why was the United States unable to build a strong state with an effective political apparatus for 20 years? What does the future now hold for the country? Who do the Taliban trust? And perhaps the most important question for many of all:
What on earth is going on with China? What role will it play in the construction of this new Afghanistan?
In this video, the third part of our special trilogy on Afghanistan, we answer all these questions.

you should add the afghan govt was elected by only 5% of the population on a 25% turnout. it never had popular support to begin with, hence the corruption because every faction positioned to benefit themselves most.
however authoritarian they may be, the taliban is the best bet to uniting the country (by force). for afghans to have a future, a general amnesty must be demonstrated to stem the brain drain. the centuries of wars resulted in millions of afghans abroad, many of them educated. however westernised they are, their presence along with western ideology are something that must be tolerated in order to contribute skills for their home country.
these are vital times of the beginning and the taliban need smart minds, western-educated minds to navigate the intricacies of business in order not to get screwed by investors in the long run.
nice balanced reporting as always, neutrality is rare these days.

Informative video, but I think the use of the word "colony" to describe China's increasing influence in Afghanistan is very biased on your part. You did not use the term "colony" in describing the relationship between the previous Afghan government with the US, despite the fact the the the US had an obviously more controlling influence on the previous Afghan administration than China will likely ever have on the Taliban.

Well, Pakistan is a puppet- Imran shuts about the Muslim concentration camps in SingKiang (oops XingJiang) and he shuts up about the export of Pakistani women to China. End to the rape of male children...not going to happen. On and on. America had very little influence on the government they were bankrolling. That's why Biden saw it as a write off and left. This is imperative to China who is trying to revamp the global trade routes. Also China has border disputes with India, in fact the largest border dispute in the world. Pakistan traditionally has had had to spread out it's military forces towards India and Afghanistan. The former due to its dispute in Kashmir and latter due to the baloch who want to be a part of Afghanistan backed by Ashraf Ghani. However, now that the taliban have come to power, Pakistan who are friendly to them can allocate more forces towards Kashmir thus further pressing India whose forces will be quite stretched. This is important because India is already a poverty stricken country and any more budget allocated to the military will not be accepted by the people.

Pakistan has many "seminaries" where they train these fighters. The US withdrawal gave Pakistan a huge strategic and military advantage. Pakistan has seven nuclear warheads, which is said to be the reason why PM Khan and his rule have been given so much leeway, in spite of training militant groups and harboring Bin Laden. The worry on the horizon is that Pakistan and its training seminaries, along with nuclear warheads, could become a terrorist threat. Everything's happening at warp speed, but Afghanistan may become a terrorist haven, and the talks will be between it, China and Pakistan. It's also no secret China's Belt & Silk Road Initiative has recently come up against roadblocks, with some countries pulling out and China running low on Belt cash and domestic problems, like Evergrande real estate mess. There's no telling where all this will end up, but the losers may be the people of Afghanistan and the fight to protect US from further terrorist attacks, whether here or elsewhere in the world.

For the colonial group, of course the mindset is to colonize. Just because you are colonizers, don't think other countries are invaders. That's a petty thought. The world is not just about invasions and wars. The world can be better if everything is done peacefully. War is not the answer.

The USA did fight in Afghanistan for 20 years and can't win.
Taliban lost 50,000 soldiers. The Afghanistan government army which backed by the USA lost 70,000 soldiers, the West lost 3000 soldiers.
At the end, 8000 American soldiers only can defend an airport in Afghanistan. In American movie, 8000 American soldiers should conquer a country.
Also the West fights with 3000 Mali militias for 10 years, and cant win the war.

People never said anything about « Afghanistan, American’s colony for the last 20 years ». Now just because Taliban said something nice to attract Chinese investment, suddenly, China is an imperialist force, it’s the Chinese neo-colonialism in Africa, blah blah blah , said the biggest colonial power in the world, namely the US, France, etc.
