This song is testament to the '3rd Abba voice', often quoted by so many people. Those 2 voices together are sublime. They compliment one another perfectly. I can't think of any other voices that have such synergy ❤

Eagle is my second favourite ABBA song (after Chiquitita). I'm primarily a guitar man (rather than a keys man) and the guitar playing in the final third is glorious. Not a guitar solo in the conventional sense. But a layered texture on top of the synths. 💥

Their songs usually have great arrangements, for sure! 'The Name Of The Game' is one of my own ABBA favourites, also because of the great acoustic guitar parts 😊

They came flying from far away
    Now I'm under their spell
I love hearing the stories that they tell
They've seen places beyond my land
    And they've found new horizons
They speak strangely but I understand
And I dream I'm an eagle
And I dream I can spread my wings
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please
As all good friends, we talk all night
And we fly wing to wing
I have questions and they know everything
There's no limit to what I feel
    We climb higher and higher
Am I dreaming, or is it all real?
Is it true I'm an eagle?
Is it true I can spread my wings?
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky (I'm an eagle)
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly (what a feeling)
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please
And I dream I'm an eagle
And I dream I can spread my wings
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky (I'm an eagle)
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly (what a feeling)
Over mountains and forests and seas
High, high, I'm a bird in the sky (I'm an eagle)
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly (what a feeling)

A small musical "ABBA revolution" when I heard this for the first time. I experienced it again with The Visitors/title track in 1981, which anticipated the 80s sound and unfortunately only much later brought ABBA the praise it deserved from some big artists. Both are in the Voyage concerts today and were never musically representative of the respective album as opener. ABBA's trademark was musical diversity, always with an element of surprise.
The disco phase was not appreciated by some fans. Only Blancmange, Erasure, Madonna, The Fuggee and the young Internet generations triggered a new wave of ABBA, so that today Gimme ..., Voulez-Vous, Lay ..., Name ... are in the top 20 downloads.

    • @nielsulriksrensen9818
      @nielsulriksrensen9818 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I remember that as well: Eagle and The Album took ABBA in an unexpected direction, something that happened again with The Visitors, of which the title track was something quite new, for ABBA and the time. I wish they would have been more daring with the singles of The Visitors: One of Us and Head over Hills - there's nothing wrong with these tracks, but The Visitors and When All Is Said and Done, for instance, were far more innovative and interesting. I am so happy that both are included in the Voyage show in London, and The Visitors is even opening the show!

    • @ursgeiser6570
      @ursgeiser6570 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

When All Said And Done was an innovative catchy song (US top 20 hit), BUT it lacks an interesting musical middle part and/or 3rd verse (not just repeat 1 like in the 60s or now in London).
I'll say it harshly: some songs by The Visitors and Voyage are as short as on their first three albums and don't convince me as musical compositions.
I wish you a lot of fun with all kinds of good music.@@nielsulriksrensen9818

As a lifelong ABBA fan i gotta say that they never really bored us as they progressed and their expanding creativity always toyed with diversity apart from their main pop-folk music ground. This majestic song is like a spiritual symphony and a fabulous ,triumpant production for something that was recorded back in 1977.Still not so so many would believe this was made 46! years back.Could have easily been a today's release and even fit a soundtrack perfectly.

  • @eduardooscar309

    "Eagle" (1977)
It is the longest song of ABBA, almost six minutes
It is the opening song of their fifth album, entitled "ABBA The Album" (1977), which coincides with the release and premiere of their film "ABBA The Movie" (1977), which records ABBA's memorable tour of Australia and throughout the ABBAmania
"Eagle" was released as a single in a few countries,
It's a shame it didn't get a chance to be the third single from "The Album" in the UK (following "The Name of the Game" and "Take a Chance with Me" which you'll hear already)
    "Eagle"
Many associate it with progressive rock, and say that its sound is the closest thing to the style of Pink Floyd or other similar groups.
others relate it as a tribute to the Eagles group
others relate the lyrics to 'Juan Salvador Gaviota'
which is absolutely clear that it is a song that you never get tired of listening to, its almost 6 minutes are absolutely rich, and the joint voices of Agnetha and Frida, armored together with the magic of the 'Third Voice', literally fly like eagles , just as the instrumental ending leaves us with that feeling of flying in the sky
for many it is the best ABBA song
in my opinion it is 9 points, absolutely brilliant... but there is more, and in this same album
    "Eagle"
ABBA performed it in a television presentation in Germany 1978 (in a reduced version, together with another song from this album "Thank you for the music") and in the opening of their TV special in Japan 1978
and has a special filming in Stockholm for the movie "ABBA The Movie" (with Agnetha already pregnant, although it is hardly noticeable)
and it is performed in their concerts of the 1979 Tour in North America and Europe
ABBA made an official video for "Eagle", reduced to just over 3 minutes, without one of the choruses and the final instrumental part, for better dissemination in the media

thank you very much for your warm words
ABBA The Album (1977) is my favorite, each song is different and fantastic
      "Eagle" is a majestic opening
"Take a chance on me" a catchy pop
"One man one woman" a beautiful ballad
"The name of the game" the most complex and daring, masterpiece
"Move on" is a choral symphony
"Hole in your soul" spectacular rock (live it's even better)
      and the mini musical
"Thank you for the music" a hymn
"I wonder (departure)" the most dramatic
"I'm a marionette" the closing in an operatic rock

side note: are you/have you done Warren Zevon? Not Werewolf! He should be in everyone's Great American Songbook.
F Mac, the Eagles, queued up to play with him. Uniquely gifted, you really must pleeeeeeeeeasee? With a cherry on it? Whatsmore a lot of his stuff is semi or totally autobiographical.
Mohammed's Radio; Accidently like a Martyr; Desperadoes under the eaves; French Inhaler; Rosarita Beach Cafe; Hockey Song; Lawyers, Guns & Money; Mr Bad Example ; Run straight down (with one Dave Gilmour); Dirty lil Religion. Don't know if it helps but Warren's main instrument was...keys!
Listen for your own pleasure if nothing else. I'd be happy you were listening at all, here, there or wherever. Lov Dawn x

@@retroreactions.... Desperadoes under the eaves which is all totally true; he was staying in the worst junkie ridden motel in Hollywood and couldn't leave as he cant pay the bill.
Run straight down with Gilmour is an overlooked gem, a it of a banger and clever lyrics.
Keep me in your heart was not long before he left us and is thus a sad song made sadder but beautiful. I do love them all and his life was fascinating.
I promise you will love him and I never break my promises about something as serious as music.
