- Intel's Compute Stick is possibly the smallest x86 PC out there.
And we're going to try and game on it.
We test out a range of titles with the pocket rocket from
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (RCT3), Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, Half Life 2, Minecraft and Counter-Strike Global Offensive ( CS:GO )
So make yourself a cup of tea or a beer if that's more your thing, and come along for the ride as we try to game on a device, that shouldn't be gamed on.

Regular minecraft pc uses Java which just eats cpu and ram like a hog. The Windows 10 edition is coded in C++ which has better memory managing and optimisation so it doesn't stress the system too much

I can see the gaming future. Everyone would be carrying around these sticks and instead of running the game on this machine, it would run games via stream from a server that has a supercomputer, kinda like PSnow in a way but with steam, origin, blizzard etc etc. In that way everyone's playing at max settings no lag especially if you consider how fast the internet is going to be in the future. 10ms input lag + 20ms to 40ms internet lag is good enough.
Not sure if this would be possible on a large scale yet, but...maybe in the 2020s ?
In 2000, I was hoping to see computers that size in around 2010. It happened, so why not that !

Cant think of a single time someone got arrested or sued for downloading a rom. Owned or not really just lawsuits against distributors.
I have known about such devices for a while but still it never ceases to amaze me because it goes to show how far technology has evolved in a mere decade or so. What we think of as a high-end gaming rig today may well fit in your pocket 10 years from now.
Bought an intel compute stick the other week..Can play any game flawlessly at max settings with steam in-home streaming, no video artifacts. Can't tell that it's not rendering locally.

There's really not on this - The GPU is integrated, it has flash storage, what more do you need to know?
The_G 2gb of ram, 32gb internal storage, up to 256gb of micro sdxc. The fact that it's not 64 bit Windows, it's 32 bit. Interal Bluetooth 4.0. Operating temperatures, which has been a concern for a couple of these stick pc's. Size and weight specs. Some of these don't matter to some people, but yea.
Windows is just the OS, and it makes no difference whether it's 32 bit or 64 bit as it only has 2gb of RAM. I agree that he could have talked more about the specs, but then again I don't really see what there is to talk about - It's just a low powered media PC stick. If you want those kind of specs you'd be better off watching a proper review, not a video that focuses solely on how it performs in games.

don't bother bro its still just the same price as any other pc with crappy 128mb integrated gpu. Intel Compute Stick CS525 which is the highest model... has 2.8gz processor and a integrated 512mb gpu... so ya don't think you would want one anytime soon...

There are lots of games which will run on a compute stick -- older strategy games (such as Civilization), older roleplaying games (Might and Magic or Baldur's Gate), games such as Magic the Gathering Online, many modern games (Chess, Scrabble, etc.), etc. If you really want higher end games... you can look at Steam's streaming as presumably you have a higher-end PC around. However, it tends to be more useful as a media consumption device which can double as a light duty workstation. Netflix, Crave, Shomi, large music collections, etc. Unlike a Roku, Apple TV, etc. its ability to use a mouse and keyboard means you can easily check email, run a web browser, use Office for some home office work, etc.
I can't wait for the future, to say that it might be possible one day to fit a full gaming PC (equivalent to 750Ti GPU) into a single stick... Maybe even more!
Maybe in 100 years, but I wouldn't plan on it.

I think you're forgetting these mid range to high end graphics cards have high wattages and produce lots of heat. It's gonna take some serious innovation to pack that into 4 inches.

You should try the new Intel Compute Stick with Core m when it comes out. It will be faster than this Compute Stick

The Intel Compute Stick that comes with 2 GB of RAM and Windows 10 is awesome for emulation. Virtually no input lag from any of the Bluetooth controllers I have paired with it, and it seems to handle any 2D title I throw at it. When compared to the Fire TV Stick, it really makes me want to throw my Fire TV Stick out.
Should make a follow up video on this little piece of hardware.
Try out trackmania 2 multiplayer demo for example along with trying out 3dfx emulation on it.

How can this really be better than some people PCs? Most phones are more powerful than this.
The most recent version of this uses an Atom x5-Z8300 which runs at 1.44ghz base, not sure where you got 2.5 from.
Maybe you live in another country but here in England it's pretty easy to get a phone with equal or better specs for roundabout the same price.

+Jag24 _ Yes, but keep in mind that those are versions compiled and optimised to run smoothly on mobile ARM hardware. I have seen better results also on a modest Raspberry PI :) But in this case we are talking about PC software, developed to take advantage of X86 CPU's and Graphic Cards that can provide high performance to produce a greater amount of detail. Although this setup is in the X86 class and can run that software, the hardware just doesn't provide that level of performance required by those tasks apparently.

Bought one of these. This stick should make my old Smart TV 'Smart' again. But it wasn't able to browse through the web or watch TH-cam Videos without stuttering. 4Mbit/s max traffic local and in the net (and yes I've turned BT off in the BIOS). It has only 2Gig of RAM, I've closed all programs I don't need and it gives a warning that the RAM is nearly full when I've started Edge. WOW just WOW. And the best is, If I switched from 'Balanced' to 'Performance' mode in the BIOS the stick was so heavy slowed down, that working was nearly impossible, the newest BIOS version wasn't fixing anything. Returned it directly.
