I just received my 1963 from HKED; Champaign dial, brown leather strap, acrylic crystal and display back. Very elegant looking timepiece and fits my wrist well. Compared to my Citizen Eco Drive chrono, I don't even know that I'm wearing it. Doing a 24 hour break-in of the movement now as in running the chrono portion continuously to wear in the meshing of the teeth of the chrono drive. Very smooth movement of the hands and winding of the watch. Glad I paid a little more to HKED for this beauty.
I have had mine for 3 years with no problems. I bought mine from Poljot24 in Germany. I opted for the 38mm with Sapphire on a Rios light brown leather strap. It's easier to show people the rear of the watch. Natos are annoying and make the watch sit too high. My only other newish watch is my Sea-gull Ocean Star diver on it's original bracelet. I have had it 4 years with no problems.
Mine is the 38mm, sapphire crystal and swan neck regulator. It is right at +2 seconds a day from the factory. I replaced the band with a Benchmark full grain leather in Bordeaux color. It is an absolutely beautiful watch that I would recommend to anyone.
Thanks for your review. I bought this one from Burnside Chrono in Australia and paid a bit more to have them test a few and then send me the one that seemed to pass their tests. I think of it like this, if you have a sample that runs well it's like you bought an old v175 for cheap that would eventually need maintenance and regulation. With that done professionally, you will have a really nice chrono piece that will work great for a long time for fraction of the cost of other column wheel chrono (even with the cost of total strip down).
Literally have this on my wrist right now except from red Star (no Plan B on the back) and with the swan neck regulator. Mine came with a brown leather strap, as well as the green, that I'm fond of.
My wife brought one back from China for me: it's a Sugess version, 38mm with a nice leather strap and a Milanese mesh bracelet... I really love it! Thanks for an excellent review of a classic watch. 🙂🍻
The servicing part is a big positive for me. I can get it serviced from a reputable watchmaker for under $50 probably closer to $20 in Pakistan. Will be saving for this one to get later this year.
Not only is the watch beautiful, but so are the backgrounds and cinematography in this video. I love the green strap coupled with the verdant outdoor surroundings. Mine only lasted a couple of months before the hand came off the minute subdial. I made the mistake of paying a shop to fix it and then it immediately came off again the first time I wore it.

Hi Esbjorn, I've got the limited version Plan B from Poljot 24 here in Germany and was wondering if your version had the minute chrono counter also turn slightly before the chrono second hand hit the twelve o'clock marking? Thanks
I just received mine (Seagull ST1901 - White Swan variant) this morning and the very first thing I noticed was that the second hand was running continuously, I thought hmm that's not how my other chronographs work... I tried the start/stop pusher and nothing happens, I know I'm not supposed to press the reset pusher whilst the second hand is running but no dice. Nothing either. Is this the way this watch is sold? Are the pushers decorative? I'm thinking I've got a lemon.
I put mine on an Ali Express presidential bracelet. I found the NATO made it sit too high on my wrist. On waste, I've taught myself enough to be able to change a movement.
From memory, the Swan Neck makes it easier to regulate the movement. So if that's something you're likely to do, I'd get it with. The Seagull1963 official store has more info on this I believe.
This version is not an official one, and it was not made in the Tianjin factory. I wonder whether one can call it "fake" because as far as I know, the movement shares the same components as the official one.
It's such a great watch but it suffers from "Trolleri". 38mm looks too small but the 40mm looks too big 🤣 with a 7 inch wrist I'd have to go for the 38.
I own this 40mm, Plan B, Saphire watch. My only complaint is the minute hand not reaching the minute markers. Seems like a design flaw on this version, as the minute hand normally reaches all the way out to the case, on all other versions.
It looks like they just used the same parts just with a larger dial for the larger case. If it was perhaps made in a different country of origin, I would safely bet that the hands would also be changed to work with the larger diameter.
very nice video, i also own Pagani design watch same quality but rolex model it cost me 60 euro , awsome quality, you can check brass watch actually they have almost same model but cost around 60 euro
Can someone help me with a link to this watch? I saw so many similar watches listed at so many places at very different price points. I am not able to figure out a genuine version.
Don’t worry, most of the ‘fakes’ use the same movement but you can also buy from the original factory directly. Have a read of the article I put in the description, it will help you 👍
This watch got my attention a while ago... As someone that has to save up to get one 200€ watch, its a tough choice. I have heard for the service expenses and its the only deal breaker for me. So how long until it needs one? Also i found it on several retailers on Chrono24 and prices vary a lot, (i can get it from Germany at 260$ plus shipping or 200$ from Hong Kong with free shipping) and that has me worried... With Seiko/Orient watches, prices are relatively close unless they are second hand watches... Can anyone provide me with answers?
Have a look at the article in the description of the video, it’s really interesting. The AliExpress ones look identical, have the same movement and are a great choice on a budget. I’d google the movement and see what peoples experiences are with needing service. Three to five years shouldn’t be a problem. Even micro brand Baltic used the same movement in some of their watches. Good luck 🙂
Are you referring to the lume? I was considering the same 40mm lume option over the classic one. Is it good or is it going to die of after a minute in a dark room?
Its a nice replica, but its not a genuine Sea-Gull watch, sadly. Sea-Gull don't do transparent backs on their watches for the 1963 line - never have done, they're always engraved and highly polished casebacks. Any watch that is the genuine article will have a proper engraved back with the appropriate SeaGull branding. In addition, your 1963 is missing the 'China' marking which sits above the "Tianjin Watch Factory' marking on the main dial. Unfortunately there are far too many who produce these watches with these (glaring if you know) mistakes - it may have a genuine ST19 movement in it which are easy to get a hold of, but sadly, this isn't an authentic Sea-Gull. Most people really need to do their homework or have a line into someone who can source them direct from Tianjin.......if you're fortunate, you'll have both :D
@@EsbjornWristwatchReviews No, I was looking at reviews and while it obviously still has the unique champagne dial, the lume makes it look a lot more modern and more similar to other watches so it looses some of the time period asthetic (in my opinion). However, I also bought the Sugess chronograph which does have lume and looks excellent as it's not supposed to be a period piece.

I’d ask around locally, perhaps watch groups online? They know Seagull1963 have a warehouse in mainland Europe
does the watch last or breaks easily ?
Not if you look after it 😊
where have you seen this in 40mm with acrylic?
AliExpress
Oh wow, your minute hand is shorter than mine.,!85 other than that. It’s exactly the same.
Is there good versions and bad dodgy versions of this watch or should I just go ahead and order it from any aliexpress seller?
I ordered from “GIV Official Store” if that helps 👍
They could improve on the finish quality, but for 200-300 usd it’s definitely worth the money
Is all that dust on the movement or the case back?
There is dust in there for sure, but some of the rougher polishing may appear like dust
Is it working accurately?. Thaks.
Yes, so far. Since it needs winding anyway regularly it’s an easy adjustment should that change
Hey is this watch still working
Yup 👍🏻
nice done and all sayd.
Thanks, appreciate it 🙂
Where do you bough your strap?
Link in the description of the video 👍
Esbjorn, I have a mate in NSW who has a Norwegian name, Trygve. Hälsningar från Sverige.
Ok, jag hälsar till Trygve 😉
@@EsbjornWristwatchReviews Ska göra, tackar.
Do the dials glow in the dark?
No they do not. You can buy one with lume pips at the hour markers but all reports say they're quite weak. Thanks for your comment.
Where can i buy one ?
There are a few options, but online only. Try AliExpress
Yes, I'd just get a new one, but still save the original.
Costs less than the first hour's depreciation on a new Swiss chronograph.
True that 👍🏻
Like to get one....bit nervous about all the fakes i been hearing about...any bullet proof sellers out there?
Good luck 🙂
Nice
I bought mine with lume. It's not impressive so don't have too many regrets. The value for money in this watch makes it an UFO in watches world.
Totally agree 👍
Are you referring to the lume? I was considering the same 40mm lume option over the classic one. Is it good or is it going to die of after a minute in a dark room?
@@dimitrisoikonomou3568 the lume is quite poor don't buy for it but it last a bit
I reference a nice article in the description and mention the authenticity issue in the video 👍🏻
Thanks for your comment. I mention the authenticity issue in the video and also added a nice article in the description, worth a look.
I disagree with the lume comment, despite its benefits, I think it ruins the asthetic
Do you have lume on yours?
@@EsbjornWristwatchReviews No, I was looking at reviews and while it obviously still has the unique champagne dial, the lume makes it look a lot more modern and more similar to other watches so it looses some of the time period asthetic (in my opinion).
However, I also bought the Sugess chronograph which does have lume and looks excellent as it's not supposed to be a period piece.
For me, I would have it repaired.
