V6 Charger/Challenger Sound Like V8 Hemi?

  • How do you make a 3.5L V6 Charger & Challenger exhaust sound closer to a V8 Hemi? In this I will talk about a few mods you can do to help your V6 sound a little closer to the v8 hemi. Many Mopar Charger owners get attached to their rides and are looking to mod for a little more HP. In this video I have some suggestions a v6 charger owner can use to squeeze out more HP/Torque. Making a v6 charger or challenger sound like a v8 hemi is hard but I have seen it done with the right mods in place.

    I personally got a 2015 V6 Challenger myself a few days ago and Some people just fail to realize that for the most part a V6 Challenger is just a daily driver with enough performance to pass 90% of the dailies on the road.
    (Came from a 03 Civic with maybe 100 HP to this with around 300 so no complaints.. Drives smooth and i can hit 95 before i get off the ramp onto the freeway)

    Thank you for this great and informative video. However as a V6 owner myself I think our focus should be on making the car sound like a better V6 and completely drop the notion of trying to sound like a V8. Its like the owner of Cessna 172 trying to make his plane sound like a jet. I think we should focus more toward the Euro/German/Italian super car sound. I highly doubt Porsche 911 owners are worried about making their V6's sound like V8's. That is how we should be. Just my 37 cents.

    • @RTLife
      @RTLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man I appreciate it. This seems to be a very popular topic... Thought I would throw my 2 cents in. I used to have a v6 and I enjoyed the exhaust as is, never really cared about it sounding like an 8. That being said, I would imagine people wanting it sounding like a Hemi because it would give off the impression it's a trim above theirs. Same reason a scat pack owner gets a hellcat hood. Either way there is mods out there for everyone & what they want to do...

    • @tristarRB211
      @tristarRB211 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh I totally agree. In fact I used to be of the "how can I make my V6 sound like a V8" crowd. That was until I made the mistake of taking a 2017 Charger R/T for a test drive and hearing that active exhaust of the 5.7. Now I can't get that sound out of my head and I know there is no going back. I want to trade my SXT for one but I have to face and defeat my nemesis 'Negative Equity' before I can.

    • @RTLife
      @RTLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hahaha I hear you man - I was the same way. I test drove a V8 & that was it. Haven't been owned anything but a V8 since. That mean aggressive exhaust note really makes driving a lot of fun. Let me know how it all plays out for you.

    Can't put headers on a 3.6, it's a port velocity exhaust manifold. Cams are very expensive and I gained mpg with my ripp kit. Js

    • @RTLife
      @RTLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yah I realized the headers I was looking at were for the 3.5L after the videos. In regards to cam that's how it goes for any car, if you want more HP & a nicer sound you have to pony up the $$$. I've actually looked into this and pro-charging my 2019. To fully upgrade my car, we're talking the pro charger, headers, new transmission, coilover suspension, and a brake kit, regearing my rear end with a tune at the end of everything will cost me $14,864. I picked up my 2019 Challenger at the beginning of 2020 and paid $19,460. So for just under $35,000 I'll be pulling 423 horsepower at the rear wheels. Running low tens in the quarter mile, and have a zero to 60 speed in between 3.2 and 3.8 seconds depending on the temperature outside. Scat packs cost 52 g's If I'm going to buy the V8 I'm going to buy the scat pack and not worry about the RT. There's no point. I would much rather spend $35,000 and have a bad ass story to tell at the track, opposed to buying a scat pack off the lot and just driving it there. And most people I tell this to think I'm full of s*** but this can all be verified through 86face TH-cam channel. He's the one that gave me the idea. Granted I'm not going to take it this far cuz I'm going to drive my car everyday. But the pro charger rear end gearing and a tune will give me 390 horsepower at the wheels and I can continue to drive the car everyday and fuck with scat packs. Everybody's a little different. I personally flip flop on what I plan on doing at least three times a day lol. Hope you and your family are staying safe and enjoy your 2020 my dude 👍

      @BruceWillisiscool 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marknelson4856 Thanks man, I hope you're staying safe as well. And if I get where you're coming from with the procharger. Its impressive when you can smoke V8s and they look so upset. But for me I dont plan on going to a track anytime soon so getting a used 2016 or 2017 scat pack in my case is the better path. I also dont plan on supercharging it either and a hellcat is to expensive anyway lol the 6.4 is all I need. Have fun and stay safe👌🤙

I've purchased three vehicles from the same place. I bought a Dodge ram in 2008 and that a used car when I was like 18 back in like 98 or 99. Tempe Dodge themselves took like 9,000 off the sticker just to get rid of it I would guess. The original price was like $31,994

    I'm digging the love here. i swear all i ever get is tantamount to "gross, why would you do that?" when people find out i got a V6 challenger, as if it's an affront to some car gods that i got something Mopar offers. funny enough, usually from others in the Mopar crowd. granted, had things been different i'd love to have gotten a V8 but i've been enjoying throwing some easy mods onto my challenger and loving it.
    Also, here's a real easy and cheap muffler suggestion for fellow 3.6 owners for under 300$. Order yourself a Jones' Full Boar part# 4554 a two in two out muffler, delete the mids and resonators and install where the mids where. You'll need an experienced guy that can work pipes to do it though. No, it's not a catback kit or a performance mod but goddamn did it wake up the sound of my v6 in the most wonderful way for so little put into it and it sounds fantastic at WOT. I might put up my own clip as it's been well broken in but here's one as an example.

    The 5.7 Hemi is the closet to a V8 sound (being a V8) but it's recommended 91 Octane or better for maximum performance. If your buying an SXT, buy it used (2015-present) around $19,000 if you're going to do the dual exhaust and supercharger (Pinstar V6 is good on 87 octane). People will say buy a used R /T scat pack for $8000 extra but the fuel is 17 miles/gallon 91 octane. The 6.4 srt scat shaker is the closet to the Hellcat/Demon performance wise. I driven the V6 and 5.7 but modded V6 may have advantages for maintenance reasons

    I see that some already mentioned the no- header issue, another thing tho is that there are no cams available for the 3.6 pentastar. It would require 4 cams total and no manufacturer wants to jump into it. It’s really unfortunate how little support there is for the motor. The older 3.5’s on the other hand had lots of aftermarket support and you could get them sounding mean!

      Super 10s and resno delete is what I got. You wont regret it and the V6s need it. On a V8 the lesser supers are fine but too quiet on
      The V6s. If its not too late, get the 10s and a resno delete itll sound really good and be loud when you put the pedal down. A KN CAI will quieten it down a touch but itll def add a lower more rumble tone than a stock intake- plus makes it fun to dump the pedal, yes its worth every penny of $270, it DOES work on the V6s. Adds a lot to them. That combo is a good $400 improvement to any v6 charger: sounds and drives better plus about 5 more mpg . Nothing to complain about.

    • @RTLife

      Another TH-camr said the same, they were able to get better MPG. You're forcing more air into the intake making more gas go in so I'm not sure how people can get better gas mileage unless they're changing their driving patterns. It's a silly mentality to have, most are probably boring as hell. Either way, if you like your car & only want a little extra HP then mod it. Life would be boring if we all had stock engines!
