Today we are taking you on a free boat trip on the less travelled, less touristy, beautiful east side of Koh Chang in Eastern Thailand.
We were told the island we visited is called Ko Sai Kaew with translates to White Sand Island but on Google Maps it comes up as Ko Phrao Nok เกาะพร้าวนอก. Whatever its name is, this paradise island it's well worth the trip over from The Parama Hotel. The boat was free for us as we were staying at the hotel, making it a must do boat trip if you are staying on the east coast of Koh Chang.
Koh Chang is an amazing island, whichever side you go to. The west side of the island is the most popular, tourist wise and it’s where you’ll find the western restaurants and the majority of Thai restaurants for that matter. Koh Chang's upmarket hotels and backpacker accommodation are also on the west coast. However, If you are looking for a more rustic island feel, you want to head to the east coast. We felt like we were on a completely different island, in fact, it felt more like nearby Koh Mak or Koh Kood!
There’s not much in the way of hotels on the east but we can definitely vouch for the Parama Resort. It’s a bit random but the views from the hotel are exceptional.

My name’s Gary Butler and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s this obsession that led me to start this TH-cam channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life, and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand, this is the channel for you. If go-go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

Great, I have been to Koh Sai Khao when my friend used to run his own fishing boat to buy seafood on both Koh Chang & Koh Kood, there was only one family living on that island. Only once and it was such a privilege to have visited there. Later on I was told that the big company had bought or leased it.

Who wants to go swim if you can go coffee shop😄😄👍 While watching i had King Idea. We stay both sides East an west. If you have a motorbike its kind of long way to drive between coasts. Hotel looks good and very good value for price👍. The Island looks like one Island in Aonang with sandbar. Chang is incredible Island. In the middle is deep jungle... And each coast are totally different. You must try hiking in jungle next time 💪💪🙏

Hahaha, exactly 🤣🤣🤣. Yeah I agree, stay on both sides, a few days in each place. The hotel is probably even cheaper normally, all the prices jumped for Songkran. The first hotel we were in went from 1200 to 4000 a night for Songkran. It was a bit like that one in Krabi now you say it! I will definitely do some hiking next time 👌
