Oh Paddy! To go to the abandoned boat hotel/resort you can’t go through the main entrance. You have to enter from another beach. It’s really beautiful around there. You also went to the wrong spot of lonely beach. It’s just left from those rocks you where at. Have to drive in from the main road or walk from lonely beach village through some resorts, jungle and more rocks. We love Koh Chang. I (Malin) went on 2006 and 2019/10 and last time we both went there and volunteered with street dogs. Beautiful island 💛✨ Thanks for taking us back there 🙏
I was lucky to visit there once in my life and it was so relaxing. My only regret was not venturing off White Sand Beach and seeing the rest of the island. Looks like I need to go back and get my Paddy Doyle sense of adventure on. Thanks for showing me what I missed.
Just returned from koh Chang after a full week. Unbelievably beautiful, great vibe, delicious vegan food, crazy scuba. Didn't even go to the beach many times because there was so much to do.
I first came to Koh Chang in December 2006, it was the first time I ever came to Thailand. I bought a “return” BUS ticket in Bangkok from Khao San Road for around 1000Baht. It wasn't return, it was a high price and learnt a lesson. But staying in Koh Chang sparked my love for Thailand. Ive been to Koh Chang almost every year ever since upto 2019. It's one place that still hasn't changed too much, it still has that chilled local island vibe. My favourite locations are Klong Prao Beach area, Kai Bai also has a nice beach but difficult to find the access unless staying at a resort there. One thing you showed in your video about Lonely Beach is giving a very wrong impression. As Lonely beach is a long lonely beach in an idylic area you seem to have driven past and ended up at the rocky section instead towards the Pier. Lonely beach is a beautiful location, but its a bit of a drive and nightlife there was never very good as its so isolated with few resorts and restaurants. SABBAY BAR on White Sand Beach is the main place to go for music, restaurant, bar, fire shows, even Thai Boxing events sometimes. Not sure if its the same now, since Ive not been able to come back to Thailand since my last visit in 2019. The biggest hassle about KOH CHANG is getting there and getting back to Bangkok. The local buses leave from Ekkamai Bus terminal near the BTS, the price is only around 300THB, takes 6 hours though and its a gamble getting a decent bus. Then you have the Ferry adds an extra hour to the trip. So its a long journey. You can fly from Bangkok to Trat and get the Ferry to Koh Chang, it used to be around $150USD each way last I checked. Mini bus is also an option if you are ok with a small group of people in a packed mini bus driving quickly, around 4 hours to get to the Koh Chang Pier, add an hour or so to get to the island from the Pier.
Koh Chang is my favourite island and place in Thailand. Great beaches, hilly tropical forest and restaurants with a great variety of food (especially fish) and the night market at White Sands Beach. One has to hire a motorbike for 200 baht and tour the East Side of the island. Surprised that Paddy had never been to Koh Chang before.
Koh Chang is such an awesome and beautiful place. Seafood looks so delicious! Koh Chang has that cool local vibe, like Koh Si Chang another inland I like. Sad to see the quit streets. Hope they spring back soon. Beautiful elephant. I will take three order of the fries. What an island!!! Great drone footage mate!
Great. Place! Putting g on my list for sure. Sitting. In. My. Hotel room in Bangkok watching my future adventures unfold via Paddy and Dreamy! Nice. Waiting for my arrival pcr test results
Aww Wow Paddy! Thank you so much for this instalment. I have enjoyed some magical moments on Koh Chang. I went there on my first visit to Thailand with a cool friend who I met in Bangkok and we stayed in some wonderful treehouse bungalows on a beautiful beach which has now been replaced by Siam Beach Resort. The hippy party vibe was so goooood there in 2003 and every night was amazing. He taught me how to drive a motorbike there. Talk about being thrown in an the deep end! I was shitting myself yet gained confidence under his calm guidance. I later returned on honeymoon with my wife and son, who was 2 years old at the time, in 2008. Much had changed yet the island preserved its beauty and integrity. I drove my son all the way to the end of the road on the Eastern side. He absolutely loved the adventures I took him on during that 3 months around South East Asia and he can still recall it now even though he is 16. On my last day in Koh Chang, my wife and son were sleeping in the afternoon, so I thought I would take a trip to Bang Bao village on my own. I decided to drive with too much confidence and came off the bike going round one of the bends into an oncoming car. I sustained some nasty burns but was lucky to not get completely run over. At the police station, I had to settle up £200 to avoid potential arrest. I immediately obliged and I got on so well with the police inspector that he invited me back to his house to have dinner. To my disbelief he had a pet tiger. When I finally got returned back to my wife and son, they were shocked to see me covered in bandages tipsy from the liquor the police inspector had plied me with for the pain. When I saw my son I burst into tears in gratitude that he was not on the bike during the accident... Them roads in Koh Chang are so dangerous but if I was to live in Thailand my settlement would be in Chiang Mai with regular trips to this beautiful island region with it's neighbouring islands. Thanks for reminding me of the past and inspiring my future. You're a star!
The memories you brought back ,I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I absolutely love Koh Chang and not much has changed in 15 years😁😁😁 it was the first place me and my partner traveled to when we left our home country❤
This is the 1st video I saw of yours. I'm totally impressed on your story telling skills. I'll be moving to Thailand in a few years and this is exactly what I want to do. You're inspiring me! Thanks for the great content.
My family and I go to Koh Chang often as we can drive from Bangkok. A few resorts accept dogs, so we put them in the car too so they can have a swim and run on the beach, plus you really need a car or bike if you want to take full advantage of what the island has to offer. The waterfall in wetter seasons is really beautiful and a must do. We stay down on Kai Bae town and beach, which is where the Mexican place is. It's busy enough and quiet enough, were as White Sand beach (in high season) is too much now (I remember when it had 1 or 2 bars, only 10 years ago). Loving your videos as usual. It's nice to see an honest and no 'gimmick' vlogger,
Hi, If you don't mind, i'm planning to visit Koh Chang in October 2023 - is it a good time? or it will be full of rain due to moonsoon? i heard Koh Chang is least rainy among other islands. Also, is one week good enough to enjoy the island?
That elephant interaction was epic. Good job going back with grub. These videos are definitely getting me thinking about Thailand again. Sad to see the villages so empty, but I'm sure they'll be crammed with tourists soon enough.
I first went to kKoh Chang 30 years ago - stunning place. White sand beach is one of those "perfect" beaches. Firstly the sunset - west facing and falls into the sea - like Kuta. Secondly look up at the pyramid jungle covered mountain - it is a talisman and emblem of the island for me,. thirdly the tide - deeper in the morning and shallower in the afternoon - perfect for swimming or just hanging around. As I say the most beautiful place. As you walk the sand starts to hold you back and slow you down. At night the stars are incredible because the island is so untouched still - more so thirty years ago before there were roads.
One of my favorite places in the world. So many great memories of kho Chang over the years. Incredible place. The best thing is that the development has been controlled. Hats off for this! Great vid pads!
I've been to this island twice. Love it. Got caught in a monsoon rain once while walking through those steep winding roads. Soaking wet, I flagged down a pickup truck and jumped on the back. Just trying the get to where I could find some guitar strings and so I did. So sad to see how Covid-19 "bulldozed" Lonely Beach. You passed by Little Eden (sign on the right) just before you & Dreamy turned left off the main road. Almost a ghost town. Thanks for investigating. Great drone shots and super editing. Cheers. dcb
paddy doyle you the random elephant the lady with the little girl feeding banana to the elephant made my day thanks so much for a beautiful video THE ELEPHANT WHAT COUNTS !!!
Thanks for your video. I used to go there twice a month as i used to have a wine shop there lovely island. Thanks for bringing back good memories. Enjoy your trip.
Can't wait to watch Samet island episode when you arrive at Rayong province, One of the most hippie isalnd , the most beautiful sunset view point and Fire show at the night and of course lots mermaids here.
I once met a woman from Thailand in France, I was there on a big yacht and she was visiting a friend in the cote d'azure. She was and still is the owner of the seabar in Koh chang and came for a holiday to her friend who also had a bar in Fresus in the sunny south of France.
Hiya Paddy, beautiful drone footage. Good vibes. Cool tunes. Your food looked delicious. Beautiful tour around. Dobe, that saying cracks me up. Lol. I love how you wear your shoes in the water. I would be the same with the fish. Lol. Nice freebie with your chips. Love your chillout time on the swing with an audiobook. Looked like you had the place to yourself. Beautiful island. Great video. Thank you for sharing. Have a great week.
Love the little Island reviews Paddy, lots of people like me out there who try to avoid the hustle and bustle , in my case too old to mix with the busy crowd been there done it 👍👍😁😁
great video, i have never been there, travelled 2 times to Phuket during covid, visited Krabi and Phi Phi, Samui, Phangan as well. if i will see Koh Chang, maybe it will change to be my new favorite.
Great video paddy koh samui has looked my favourite so far but koh chang looks amazing I must get to Thailand one day it's got everything I like and the thai people seem so nice and helpful. Look forward to the next one 👌👍
Probably someone already cleared this up, but those kind of kayaks are supposed to have the holes for the water to exit. These kayaks have air inside the plastic frame and thus stay afloat. My favorite type of kayak for warm waters!
Been twice and loved it so much, it’s making me want to leave Phuket and get back there now 🙈 Between Koh Chang and Koh Mak I’d be happy there forever 💙
Hey paddy. The beach at Lonely Beach is about 2 mins north of the village area. The beach changes alot due to the seasons but can be very beautiful at certain times of the year. Koh Chang is one of my most favourite places i have ever been in Thailand. Lonely beach specifically. Very sad to see it they way it is. Fun fact, I got married on Klong Prao Beach in Koh Chang.
Agreed. Lonely beach is the hidden Pearl on this island. Paddy just missed it’s beautiful beach by about 1km. Paddy turned in “left” about 3 or 4 “streets” too soon. He actually turned in right where we stayed 4 years ago, a lovely little backpackers/dormitory called Happy Owl. Seems they have closed down too, though. Soooo sad to see what has become of the hustle and bustle of Lonely beach. Used to be packed full of tourists last time I was there in 2018. Thanks again Paddy for the amazing memories and good on you for touring around the whole island. It is worth every penny of cheap fuel lol. Even the waterfall brings back fun flashbacks. Keep up the great work. Simply love your videos Paddy. Safe travels✌️Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa
I found Lonely Beach about 6 years ago, have gone every winter for a month there until the pandemic hit, im ready this winter tho. There is no place like it anywhere in the world
@@mrackelito1Hello! I, too, have been there twice in winter. It’s a wonderful place, one might say the most favorite place in the world for me. Please tell me, did you manage to go to Longly beach, how is everything restored there now after COVID-19?
@@ЕржанҚарақ yes I went! Almost 2 months, lonely beach still has it's charm, the beach area is really good still, however i didn't stay in lonely beach this time since I was staying longer, lonely beach gets expensive for me if I stay there lol, to much partying.. However I'm sure if you liked it before, u will still like it, more places are coming, you can hear and see them building new cool bars
I got stuck in my pickup in Koh Chang about 15 years ago trying to get across to one of the beaches; I think there is a mini bridge to it now. Anyhow is was wonderful and we stayed in a basic A frame hut. In the morning the owner of the resort towed my pickup out back to the main road and we were good again. Have been back to Koh Chang many times since but it has never been as special as the first time we went when it was so under developed.
There is a sandy beach at Lonely Beach. Just north of you. I loved that area when I was there. Be there shortly. Thanks Patty. Mod’s Bar is wonderful and she is a great person. Have a look around people. Enjoy it.
Thanks for the tip! I will be in Thailand in December _ i am now seriously visiting Koh Chang. It seems to have the right mixture of complete traquility but not dead
You can get by that gate now for 100 baht. Also, you didn't show Lonely Beach at all. It IS a white sandy beach. Probably a touch North of where you were. Funny, I'm watching this from Awa Resort right now. And agree 100% El Barrio is fantastic! I watched this video maybe a year ago and it inspired me to check out Koh Chang. After traveling around for a week I watched it again to see if I missed anything. I actually rode to that kayak/Maldives place but had no idea about the island just off the coast. I'll definitely do that in the next couple of days.
I've also been to Koh Chang twice and Koh Kut once. Enjoyed Mexican food and margaritas at El Barrio both times! My second trip was during the pandemic and it was sad to see so many places closed, some forever. On the other hand it was great for the beaches to be very uncrowded. Koh Kut was great. I visited a couple of waterfalls and drove over to the fishing village on the other side of the island. Wonderful memories of that place.
Oh boy, when I (we) will gonna be able to through all your videos, every one of them is better than the previous one. Every spare minute of life is filled with Paddy Doyle cinema now 😊🎉
Hey cool video love Koh Chang. You stopped at lonely beach but there is a area of white sand. and you missed the Rasta bar there and the famous Ting Ting bar!! Nice one though bro.
Check out 2 restaurants in Kai Bae beach on the beau tiful main road. There are 2 nearby mass parlors. Restaurants are Morgan's and Filou's. Both serve large portions.
Wow , It looks different now , so lovely, when i was there it was so pack even in September and for someone that didn’t have transportation, it was not easy to get around .
You done a good job viewing the island. I was staying chanaburi, and popped over to the island for the day on a scooter and ended staying the night in a rasta resort without the doobi unfortunately. I was buying gems on the mainland, but lovely island. Living in issan, ubon ratchathani . Great vid.
I recommend you to try it out. Beautiful atmosphere of Koh Samet in Rayong province. It is very beautiful and there is a fire show every night as well.
I lived in Thailand for 6 months and Koh Chang was my absolute favorite experience. It had the best vibes. Chiang Mai was #2. I still think about it sometimes.
@@johnobrien964 Crazy cheap! Koh Chang was a little bit more touristy-expensive than the rural part of Thailand I lived in, but still so inexpensive and can't compare to Western US prices (I live in Los Angeles now Lol). My lunch used to be 20 - 40 cents every day!
Koh Chang is amazing. To get to the huge ghost ship hotel/resort : Just rent a kayak from Bang Bao fishing village ( near the restaurant where Paddy Doyle enjoys his sea food ), Follow the coast east for 15mn and you'll find a beautiful white sand beach, with the ghost hotel ship sitting there. If you can spare some diplomatic skills and a few hundred bahts, you'll even be able to visit the inside of the huge ship, and it's quite an experience you'll never forget. Thanx for the video PD, and hello from Nakhon Sawan.
21:06 I mean I am no expert when it comes to kayaking, but aren't you going the other way around? Cause I pretty sure that the front is that green part behind you back...😂 Anyway, amazing place, hopefully I will visit it soon, and hopefully it won't be raining too much.
@@cerys77 I only know because I did the same thing with a paddle board in Algarve. I rented it so I could get to this cave that you can only access from the sea side. It seemed so close to the beach and yet I was exhausted when I came back. And as I was nearing to the beach one dude told me that I'm going the wrong way around 🤣
I just wonder how much more busy does it look now. I am not against many people but something in this video seems so local and chill like old Thailand or even old Cambodia
Great vid again Paddy but you went to the wrong spot for Lonely beach - its behind Nature Rocks!:) Ko Chang is a real foodie place, especially Kai Bae where, apart from El Barrio you have amazing Italian restaurants, Wine Gallery and a super French restaurant not far away too
Another great video sir! I enjoy watching your adventures, and you put out some interesting content. I will give you a bit of a heads up; Kayaks work better when you go forward. When you go rear forward, water will splash on you much more than if you went forward first...just a little tip for next time you rent a kayak...take care and enjoy Thailand!
Thank you so much paddy for all your recommendation , ive been to most of the islands in thailand exept koh chang😅im in koh chang now and at tbe sea food place ( fisher village ) having a same thing as you had😂. Tonight we will go to il bario🙏

Oh wow!
Watched rewatched this video a few times, so inspired by this I’m here on a visit to Koh Chang right now 😎😁👍🇹🇭
There is a sandy beach at Lonely Beach.
Nice quick overview ! Thank you . enjoy ...
Good video thanks mate .I'm off to Thailand next month
Such a lovely island , bit lagging behind with your videos hope to catchup soon as you are ending the journey .
Every spare minute of life is filled with Paddy Doyle cinema now 😊🎉
This changes my plans for my next trip to Thailand, thanks Paddy!
You’re an excellent youtube travel guide. I wish I could drive around Thailand with you for a day.
Hi Paddy great video, love Koh Chang really hope to get back this year as with the Covid thing.Keep up the good work pal.
Hey cool video love Koh Chang. You stopped at lonely beach but there is a area of white sand. and you missed the Rasta bar there and the famous Ting Ting bar!! Nice one though bro.
I love Koh Chang! Laid back, quiet and not over commercialized! Great place to chill and just do nothing!
Koh chang is one of my Favorite Island in Thailand first time i was there in 2006 since then i make a Trip there every time when i am in Thailand
so far we loved Blessed Koh Chang homestay ...
Fantastic your blogs are so Refreshing well done Sir
Thank you Patty! You have introduced me to so many cool places in Thailand that I now want to visit and this island is one of them.
Thanks for showin us arround mate, just watchin from Asq waitin to get out 🥳
Looks awesome. Will visit on next trip. Thanks Paddy!
Nice episode Paddy, you really are awesome at explaining everything, Have a great day. 👍
Very informative video...Well done mate...Koh chang looks very quiet now.
Great vid.
Absolutely an beautiful island 🏝. That seafood 🦞 looked delicious 😋. Definitely looks a lot quieter than Samui , will have to go in the near future.
Looks like you mucked up a bit at Lonely Beach. There's a pretty great white sand beach there just a bit further on from where you parked up.
I recommend you to try it out. Beautiful atmosphere of Koh Samet in Rayong province. It is very beautiful and there is a fire show every night as well.
Lovely video! Really liked the wibe :)
Arrived today. Have been looking forward to it for 3 years.
Very good vlog. Thanks for sharing.
I lived in Thailand for 6 months and Koh Chang was my absolute favorite experience. It had the best vibes. Chiang Mai was #2. I still think about it sometimes.
Was it inexpensive?
Can’t wait to see it
@@johnobrien964 Crazy cheap! Koh Chang was a little bit more touristy-expensive than the rural part of Thailand I lived in, but still so inexpensive and can't compare to Western US prices (I live in Los Angeles now Lol). My lunch used to be 20 - 40 cents every day!
Koh Chang is amazing.
To get to the huge ghost ship hotel/resort :
Just rent a kayak from Bang Bao fishing village ( near the restaurant where Paddy Doyle enjoys his sea food ),
Follow the coast east for 15mn and you'll find a beautiful white sand beach, with the ghost hotel ship sitting there.
If you can spare some diplomatic skills and a few hundred bahts, you'll even be able to visit the inside of the huge ship,
and it's quite an experience you'll never forget.
Thanx for the video PD, and hello from Nakhon Sawan.
Thank You!
We loved Koh Chang!
kinda sad seeing the elephant with the chain on the leg
Like a dog on a leash indeed
Indeed. It's like "COVID-19" lockdowns. You will eat no peanuts and be happy.
Kind of agree but people tie their dogs up outside shops etc. How else are you going to stop an Elephant walking away?

Yes also you can tell by the poor condition of the ears, it's not well cared for
❤ Koh Chang, going back in January!!
I have been there 26 times and will never get enough.
Hi, I'm looking at going there, after a bit of time in Bangkok, for a couple of weeks. This helps a bit even though it is two years old at this point.
21:06 I mean I am no expert when it comes to kayaking, but aren't you going the other way around? Cause I pretty sure that the front is that green part behind you back...😂 Anyway, amazing place, hopefully I will visit it soon, and hopefully it won't be raining too much.
It sure looks like Paddy is paddling it back to front, which would explain why its so rickety 😂
The awa resort is on agoda only 1180 bht and for 2 people with breakfast. Its supercheap
Beautiful Island.. Still very natural. Loved🏝️🤩
Great vid again Paddy but you went to the wrong spot for Lonely beach - its behind Nature Rocks!:)
Ko Chang is a real foodie place, especially Kai Bae where, apart from El Barrio you have amazing Italian restaurants, Wine Gallery and a super French restaurant not far away too
Another great video sir!
Haha I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to notice this too
calm & peaceful
Thank you so much paddy for all your recommendation , ive been to most of the islands in thailand exept koh chang😅im in koh chang now and at tbe sea food place ( fisher village ) having a same thing as you had😂. Tonight we will go to il bario🙏
i felt like im over there..awesome video thnx bro
Koh Chang looks stunning....Hopefully things start to improve on the Island soon ☺
22:32 clean water but no mountains 24:48
This!
Might be what me and my hubs are looking for during retirement 🙏💪
Great work Mate! My favourite island for trail running in Thailand - great to see it again from your lens even if it’s way quieter than pre-covid.
