It was definitely correct there to put them on a non-kami creature. If Seth had tried to put the counters on kami, then the opponent would have responded with their removal. Seth still could have comboed off at instant speed, but kami would still only have 3 power while comboing and he would have lost to a second piece of interaction. TL;DR: There's no upside to putting counters on kami, and all the downside.

Arena absolutely needs "always yield to" and "remember targets/choices". And that is not even to say that it should probably also have a "record loop" and "execute loop X times" options. I know it's probably a nightmare to code it, specially cus at this point I bet it's become a spaghetti code app, but STILL.
The whole point of arena was that it was supposed to avoid spaghetti code issues that limits MTGO and makes new cards difficult and inefficient to program in. The fact that MTGO has this feature and arena doesn't is kind of embarrassing, seeing as MTG is a $1 billion/yr property

Fauna Shaman is a card I'm kicking myself for missing in my Cauldron Combo list, but I think you do really want Rona and Tyvar and that Sleep-Cursed Faerie/Faerie Mastermind/Surge Engine beats might be a better backup plan than the graveyard thing.

Goro-Goro and Argivian Avenger are two separate cards that can activate abilities to give themselves haste in standard. Agatha herself (or several others) requires two creatures and a fair chunk of mana, but still works too.
In Modern you could use soul cauldron to exile Grist (who is a creature everywhere but on the battlefield) and give all creatures with +1/+1 counters loyalty abilities. Then activate the +1 loyalty ability to get a bunch of loyalty counters (and insect tokens and cards in graveyard), then sac the creatures to get all their loyalty counters onto the Ozolith, then move all those loyalty counters onto one creature so you can use Grist's ultimate.

Agatha's Cauldron is definitely interesting. It's the best stand-alone Necrotic Ooze-style card we've ever seen, as it isn't embarrassingly bad played fairly (sorta like half an Unlicensed Hearse that grows your team instead of itself) at the expense of speed compared to the Ooze. Like, witht the right cards in your graveyard, you can kill your opponent with an Ooze before they even get a chance to respond, and that's never going to happen with the cauldron.
I'd love to see a goose food deck. I mean these types of decks are fine, but once you see the combo once, you've seen It a million times. And I've been trying out night of sweets revenge, and it seems great.
If only regular arena players were kind enough to scoop when you go infinite. I feel like some of these games might time out before you got the kill if you had to click through everything.
I'm sorry, but if there is a chance my opponent punts, I'm sticking it out. Unless they're actively presenting lethal with no room for misplays or I'm incredibly far behind, I don't scoop. I often win with 1 life because people don't count or can't figure out lethal. Infinite /= win necessarily. Also, if someone uses a really degenerate and consistent combo against me, like HB Ratadrabik with Nazgûl and a tutored Altar of Dementia, I think they deserve to demonstrate their inane machinations.

There are two things to consider. Is it better than the best self milling combo, and is it better that the best Company/Creature combo deck. I don't think it's going to out perform greasefang, and I think there are better company combos that don't see play.
Cauldron has a ridiculous amount of combos. Just with a quick scryfall search of activated abilities I found like 4-5 different infinite combos that are modern or pioneer legal. I think in pioneer you could build a cauldron deck that has 3 different infinite combos. The only difficulty is finding the artifact and keeping it in play in a format with so much disenchant / exile effects like Boseiju or Leyline Binding. Oh and of course pioneer has tons of gravehate because of cheesefang.
Why are we not having sleep cursed as the base of the combo? Like it has ward 2 and has more power and toughness. If you play it turn 1 it loses a stun. Turn 2 you play cauldron. And on turn 3 you might have lethal?
I think the stun counter math might be off there. Faerie turn 1 "untaps" and has two stun counters on it turn 2, and unless you're spending mana to untap it and not play Soul Cauldron, you're a turn behind. In either case, you still need to mill the other card (Kami or Cradle Clearcutter) and have a fauna shaman to tutor the Hellkite or Triskadekaphile to draw your deck, so there's no downside that I see to comboing with either Kami or Faerie.
@@sethc.1366 The one advantage to using Faerie instead of Kami is that the Faerie needs fewer loops to kill someone - the Kami makes 1 mana per loop while the Faerie would make 2. That doesn't sound like that much of an advantage, but when you're trying to generate 43 mana to kill someone at 20 life...
Add power plant worker with a monster role token. Pump PPW and swing for GG Also for another (long routed way) for mana... add blighted burgeoning, grafted growth, and portent tracker for the utopia sprawl way. Exile sleep-cursed to cauldron giving tracker the untap ability
My favorite bit of jank I just discovered is using Tough Cookie to turn the Cauldron into a creature, then if you get a +1/+1 counter on it, you can infinitely untap it
I thought of a really cool "against the odds" style deck using Agatha's Soul Cauldron. you use the cauldron to exile from your graveyard a creature with cheap activated ability that make him transform, like concealing curtains, bloodsworn squire, restless bloodseeker or the uncommon creatures that transform into phyrexians from march of the machine. then you can use that activated ability to transform things like the preators, ulvanwald oddity, jerren, runo stormkirk and angelic enforcer. you can also put there training grounds and agatha in case they get rid of the cauldron.
FLING EM! Like others have said, with all those creatures that get really big due to the graveyard, I run "Voldaren Thrillseeker" and spare myself all that mana generation. 1 mana can fling your big creatures!
My list used Futurist Operative, Furtive Analyst, and Kami of Whispered Hopes to go infinite and dig til I got Phyrexian Vindicator and Stonesplitter Bolt to kill. But my list is unoptimized because of being poor (out of rare wildcards). I probably should find some kind of alternate wincon incase there is “you have hexproof” in standard.

Part of the cost to activate its ability is sacrificing the creature, and that happens at the same time you activate the ability, so it doesn't use the stack and can't be responded to.

Voldaren Thrillseeker Backup ability also can be used to give one of your creatures +1/+1 counter and sacrifice ability That can be used to get the creature in the GY for Cauldron or Patchwork Crawler

The funny thing with the match against Legend Even if you let Otawara resolve, you would go infinite, since you just +1 the OTHER Kami, and go infinite there re: Growing the Kami, uhh, maybe don't +1 the Rutstein when you coulda +1'd the Kami again so it'd be a 5/5 Also Kami is said with a hard Ka, its not Cammy, its Kah-mii

I kinda wonder if Reckless Handling would worth making the deck Temur? It finds the cauldron and it can help put creatures into the yard. Or in Sultai use Diabolic Intent?
Soul Cauldron is a really cool idea but I think it's bad design for it to so effortlessly enable itself, especially when it's graveyard stuff which is basically always problematic (since the whole point of stuff going there is that it's supposed to be bad, a cost, a loss in tempo or opportunity, anything that's not beneficial). Of course it may be the specific combo with the Kami that is the problem, and it may just end up either too slow or too easily disrupted once it's a known entity and more specific removal is kept at hand - of course, what you are doing here is hardly optimized (though the same is true of the other preview players). I still feel this kind of design is what breaks things, and it's a pity when the basic idea of the card is valid.
I swear I've heard Seth pronouce "Kamigawa" correctly and yet it's always "'Cammie' of whispered Hopes" . It's literally the same "Kami" like in the beginning of Kamigawa and still. Someone please tell Seth I can't listen to him calling them "Cammies" anymore
Infinite in every way? Not even remotely. I don't see any infinite life gain, infinite mill, infinite tokens, infinite power, infinite land destruction, infinite bounce, infinite damage prevention, infinite loyalty activations, infinite counters, infinite spell copies,infinite turns, infinite poison, or infinite combat steps. You need to step up your game.

@seth ive been toying with this sorta deck for a while now dont know which route i like better sultai for sticky fingers or temur for song of totentanz i like temur a little more cause with infinite mana you can swing all the rats

The funny thing with the match against Legend
Even if you let Otawara resolve, you would go infinite, since you just +1 the OTHER Kami, and go infinite there
re: Growing the Kami, uhh, maybe don't +1 the Rutstein when you coulda +1'd the Kami again so it'd be a 5/5
Also Kami is said with a hard Ka, its not Cammy, its Kah-mii

@@poiri Yeah the sickness would have delayed it a round, but the +1 counter was not targeted, the +1 counter isn't part of activating the effect, only resolving it

Like, oh idk, putting more counters on it with soul cauldron instead of putting those counters on something else like you did? Or if you put the counters on something larger like goyf. Slightly slower, but should still work
I don't understand about the untap ability. It cost 1U, how is it you can use any color of mana to pay for this ability

I kinda wonder if Reckless Handling would worth making the deck Temur? It finds the cauldron and it can help put creatures into the yard. Or in Sultai use Diabolic Intent?

I feel like this deck could use some adventure creatures for utility and removal. You know, so you can tutor them.
Soul Cauldron is a really cool idea but I think it's bad design for it to so effortlessly enable itself, especially when it's graveyard stuff which is basically always problematic (since the whole point of stuff going there is that it's supposed to be bad, a cost, a loss in tempo or opportunity, anything that's not beneficial).
Of course it may be the specific combo with the Kami that is the problem, and it may just end up either too slow or too easily disrupted once it's a known entity and more specific removal is kept at hand - of course, what you are doing here is hardly optimized (though the same is true of the other preview players). I still feel this kind of design is what breaks things, and it's a pity when the basic idea of the card is valid.

I swear I've heard Seth pronouce "Kamigawa" correctly and yet it's always "'Cammie' of whispered Hopes" . It's literally the same "Kami" like in the beginning of Kamigawa and still. Someone please tell Seth I can't listen to him calling them "Cammies" anymore

Infinite in every way? Not even remotely. I don't see any infinite life gain, infinite mill, infinite tokens, infinite power, infinite land destruction, infinite bounce, infinite damage prevention, infinite loyalty activations, infinite counters, infinite spell copies,infinite turns, infinite poison, or infinite combat steps. You need to step up your game.
This deck wouldn't be legal if the set rotation happened when it was supposed to :)
The audio seems out of sync, Seth frequently comments on something 5-6 seconds after it happens.
