    Could have been re-titled "How the gaming industry gaslights everyone when things don't go their way".
    With the exception of Days Gone (although, I am liking Homefront: The Revolution, but it's clearly not in its original state), these guys need to sit down, shut up and learn from their mistakes, and not blame us for their decision to put shareholders first.

      Yeah, I don't get the hate for Homefront The Revolution... I've had so much fun in it and after all these missions, I'm still playing "cat and mouse" because of how hard the fights are and how underpowered I am. It truly feels like you are in a resistence. I genuinally think that the reviewers who gave this a bad score just didn't play it long enough. Reason number 1: They didn't fail they only "failed" when compared to unrealistic expactations. Days Gone is actually a prime example. It sold well enough for what it was. A fresh IP from an unproven studio but apparently it was a failure cause it didn't sell at God of War numbers. The recent Guardians of the Galaxy is another. All outsiders expected a flop after the mess they made of Avengers but it was unexpectadly good and word of mouth will have shifted far more copies than most of us expected but hey it wasn't a mega hit so it's a failure.

      There’s one flaw in your argument, days gone wasn’t what was promised the dev overhyped and under performed, it’s literally the exact opposite for GoG everyone was expecting it to fail and it turned out to be a very solid game, it received steady 9/10 where as days gone received a solid 7/10 Days Gone had numerous graphical problems, AI issues, and overall jank that showed its devs inability to deliver what was promised.

    Deadlines, to me, are the one reason why indie games seem to have become so much better than the majority of AAA games lately, or at least not as bug-ridden.
    Indie games are generally not bound to deadlines - the games are ready when the devs say they're ready, and not when the executives/shareholders want it to be ready. Usually this means that indie developers can do all the testing and debugging they need to so that they're not putting out an unfinished game, while AAA developers often have to rush what might seem like an unfinished game out the door to please the shareholders.

    • @micah4029
      @micah4029 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Also, I think too many AAA publishers invest in their advertising push too early in a game's development. Then that forces developers to meet unrealistic deadlines because executives at the publishing company expect the product to fall within a certain fiscal quarter or year.
      On the other hand, a lot of indie developers drip-feed and tease titles for a while, showing realistic progress as development continues.

    • @ufcfan1985
      @ufcfan1985 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      100% and add to that, more pressure on AAA’s to meet certain content requirements, profit margins, advertising etc.
      Indie’s are genuinely more a passion project and operate almost a cost recovery model where some crack profit if their game is hot AF.

    Sony have literally the most
    ridiculous reasons for reasons why Days Gone didn't do great at launch and not wanting to make a sequel to the game.
    The real reason for mixed reviews are some bullshit critic reviewers who clearly didn't spend more than 1-2 hours playing the game, so it resulted in people thinking it wouldn't be anything special. But after some time when playthrough series were published by TH-camrs, people really saw what this game was about and nowadays whichever site you go to, Days Gone always has over 90% out of 100 positive reviews or either almost 5 stars.

Nothing was going to live up to ME2's hype. And people loved jumping on the media bus to laugh at a game they may not have even played.
    I say that last because the eye movement clip is the same one everywhere. Like one person took a clip and shared it with everyone. You want to gripe graphics, argue how changing from the uneditable base character to any other felt like a graphics down grade. Heck all I wanted to do was Change Sara's hair colour. But no, brand new face if you go that route. Or put in misdone priorities. Ooh how I set up the twins will change dad's face? The guy you will only see in the intro. . .

      Politics had nothing to do with it though. It just wasn't a good game. Personally, I didn't even know there was a "woke" agenda around the game. I just played the free demo, thought it sucked, and moved on. I'm sure many did the same. Your average gamer doesn't pay attention to agenda and politics. They just play games they think are fun. People didn't think Lawbreakers was fun. Simple as that. Politics was just an excuse that guy used because he couldn't admit the game wasn't fun.

    LawBreakers had an amazing soundtrack
    But it was a victim of its own developers' mindset.
    Boss Key Productions were trend chasers. Whatever multiplayer games were popular at the time, that's what they duplicated. They tried to cash in on the hero shooter with LawBreakers. After LB was released, a development roadmap was posted. 2 maps and one new mode later, Boss Key scrapped the roadmap halfway through when the game suffered commercially.
    Then less than a year after LB was released, Boss Key released a battle royal game. So instead of sticking with LB to try to fix and improve it, they instead focused on the next cash grab.

    Jules, being "too woke" is a VERY valid complaint in this day and age and is why you will often often see a reviewer vs player split in whether or not they like a game. It's gotten to the point that lots of gamers by default avoid games that get good critic reviews and look closer at the one's they give bad reviews.
    And you are right that politics have a place in games...but it has to be the GAME'S politics, not our own.

    The funniest thing in here is calling Halo Infinite polished. Last I knew, my Steam version wouldn’t even load the main menu in a stable way. It would crash shortly after showing it. Never mind navigating through the menus to actually play, or even trying to skip it by accepting a party invite immediately. It literally became UNPLAYABLE with the s2 update. I still maintain they disabled Steam versions so people could stop using the Steam Player Count to ridicule them.
    But honestly, after calling people who complained about the Battle Pass “Moochers Of Reach” and the Juneteenth-Bonobo thing… F 343. They clearly don’t like Halo or it’s fans, anyway. They don’t make good Halo games. They can’t even Executive Produce a decent Halo series. And they complain about the people keeping them in business? As long as they’re in charge, I think I’m done with Halo.

    "Buy the game at full price"... what a load of garbage. They were just being petulant. When the game was full price, it was never on my radar. Even so, full price games are getting more and more ridiculously priced.
    I understand that there is a lot of money going into developing these games... but the bulk of consumers do not have an extra 60-80 bucks the throw at new games. Especially when there are Legacy games coming out in the same time period. Often times, new games with new Concepts and untested characters don't do well at first and develop a cult following, such as days gone had. But the whole purpose of having these new invasive game systems that are always online Is so that the makers of said games, can track the popularity and resurgence of them so that they can know when the right time is to release the sequel.
    Had some entrepreneurial programmer showed some initiative, they could have had the initiative to start programming the sequel, they could have struck while the iron was hot in the middle of it achieving its cult status... but when they saw the rising number of players, they dismissed it and didn't prepare for a sequel, and they know at this point that the longer the wait with cult fame, the less opportunity for return they will have. So, instead they hit you with righteous indignation and petulance for their lack of foresight.

    😂😂😂how can you blame a game for being too polished compared to the 💩 you put out yourself? I didn’t play 2042 but I never wanted to. Same with with the last couple of COD titles. They got very lazy with the campaigns and I don’t like to grind out the multiplayer stuff, I’d rather put my time into something that has a story and a little more challenge then anything COD can offer.
