Yeah, I pretty much only follow Whatculture Gaming because of Jules. That, and when they do the game shows with all of the presenters competing. I love those.
I remember the Malboro, one of the random status effects it can cause is just reducing a character to 1 HP, which combined as it often was with a poisoning, meant your character would just go on to die at the start of their turn.
12:43 "Some of these games are like climbing up a mountain made of broken glass using only your eyelids" ...I'm absolutely dying here! Just love the script in this video, keep up the great work guys!

This is why I like Jules’s lists: he covers a wide array of games from different eras. Now if it could become a MO for the rest of the crew (especially for Scott and Josh), that would be great 😜
To the person playing in the Malboro section featuring Bahamut: You're doing it wrong. He's the King of Dragons. He basically laughs in the face of anything that isn't another summon. How the hell did you let him almost get wiped by a Malboro? One Mega Flare, done. Do it right =P
@10:50 Special mention to FFX's Great Malboros in the Omega Ruins, who also have an unavoidable 100% Ambush chance and tend to or always open with Bad Breath. First Strike weapons or die, pretty much.
I always love Jules videos entertaining and educational. Today I learned that if I find myself in intense combat with angle-like wings I should avoid eggplants .
Lynels, the original Legend of Zelda. Their successors in later 2D Zeldas have nothing on the Breath of the Wild variants, but the original were fast, had sword beams regardless of health and were some of the game's heaviest hitters, nevermind their durability. Clearly, these are the ones that BotW's Lynels get their strength and HP pool from.
Oh yeah, you haven't truly lived until you've either had an entire team die because of them, or have Vietnam flashbacks of them enough to go batshit crazy and start shooting everything.
video idea: 10 video game characters that went through incredibly insane amounts of emotional/physical torment (and were barley affected by it) Examples: Marcus fenix (gears of war), noble six (kinda) (halo reach), trypticon (transformers war for cybertron), clementine (walking dead tell tale series)
Here's my video idea: 10 (or 8) most heartwarming moments in otherwise grim game scenarios, we could use a cheer-up every now and then And I would like to suggest the night of drinking prior to the Battle of Kaer Morhen in The Witcher 3
Hey Jules, why do we have to look at ourselves in such a great uplifting way, but every video you host it’s…” awfully hosted by…” Hey man, you’re awesome too.
Alien Swarm, thats a game that never gets talked about anymore. That game on the hardest mode with friendly fire on was honestly a super unique and immensely satisfying when it works coop experience. All 4 of you needed to be completely in synch to survive. Loved it
Honestly, I thought the Chrysilids from the prior XCOM were harder to deal with, as they showed up in those bloody terror missions that just had civilians everywhere and I think multiplied to greater numbers even faster. At least in 2 if a squad member gets infected, they can be cured. I will admit in 2 though, their burryowing ability was sort of an "ah sh!t" thing, as once your realized they were present, and either lost sight or saw them burrow, your next few turns were spent creeping forward and going on overwatch to be prepared for someone to trip a "chrysalid landmine". They were more dangerous in 1 I feel, but more annoying in 2.
Honorable mentions: Deathclaws and Yao Guai throughout the Fallout series, Feral Ghoul Reavers, Super Mutant Overlords, Albino Radscorpions and Swampfolk in Fallout 3, Cazadores and Tunnelers in Fallout: New Vegas, Mirelurk Hunters and Queens, Sentry Bots, Deathskull Radscorpions, Power Armored Raiders, Assaultrons, and Fog Crawlers in Fallout 4. Hunters throughout the Resident Evil series, with their ability to decapitate your character (especially if you don't have a magnum or other powerful weapon on hand), Leechmen in RE 0, and the chainsaw guys in RE 4. The instakill snipers in Syphon Filter 2 caused me much more grief than any of its bosses.
I'd love to see one like "Times developers were so self-aware that they memed on themselves" or something. One such example is the Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3, that was just a DLC in the form of a love letter to the fans (even referencing Shepard's tendency to always say "I should go" XD). On the opposite side of the spectrum, there could also be "times developers trolled their player base," one such example including that one wall in Volcano Manor in Elden Ring where you have to smack the wall LITERALLY 50 times or so to reveal it as a hidden path. XD
I think we need to address Jules negativity here with the whole "Awfully hosted" line because I think we can all agree that Jules here is an absolute ledge and a very present reminder to keep our heads up and should do so himself. You Jules are are quite literally the glue of whatculture and a positive presence is a lot of people's lives
So I know you did one from both of these series, but I've got 2. 1) Magic Pots from Final Fantasy. Especially 12. That gambit system usually has your party auto attack them and initiate battle. 2) Those damn Pinwheels in Dark Souls.
I agree, I count Regeneradors from RE4 as regular enemies as you encounter them multiple times. EDIT: And before anyone starts arguing about the name, here's an quote from Resident Evil Wiki page: "The Regenerador is mistakenly referred to as the "Regenerator" in the English translation to Resident Evil 4, a simple mistake given the very slight difference between the Spanish word and its English equivalent. The "-dor" spelling is used everywhere else." So there. I rest my case.
I think there needs to be a list of cool features that have not been recycled. An example, Sid Meier’s Pirates Gold had a aging mechanic that made the game more difficult as you played longer instead of scaling up enemies. I would love to see this feature in some of the new massive RPGs. I think it would lend to multiple play throughs.
@@chrissears5482 , yes and no, in pirates you began to slow down which increased the difficulty without scaling up enemies. Now imagine these massive video game worlds where you want to see everything before completing the game but needing to balance that with a timer of sorts.
Honorable Mention: Purple Robes in Sekiro. You can find a few early on and they'll whoop your ass regardless of the hours of grinding to get gud you've put in
I can think of a few more ideas for this list. The Soldiers from Dead Rising, as they use machine guns that stun-lock you and always travel in groups. The Ganth from Dungeon Siege 2, who moves just as fast as your party, as well as heal large amounts of their health whenever they attack. The Glowing Ones from Fallout, who ressurect fallen ghouls and deal massive radiation damage.
You hit the Marlboro but totally skipped the Tonberry! My actual first meeting was filled with thoughts of "Its so small and cute!" Followed by "Max crit combo, that was easy! Wait..." then finally "OMG he one shots me?!"
How about top 10 best robotic game companions? Inspired by the robot in Stray, but there’s also HK-47, Clank, etc. Give our future overlords some love!
That one Frog in the opening area of Jedi Fallen Order The Brute Chieftain constantly on you while you’re trying to kill the final boss in Halo Infinite
The Dinogator from Etrian Odyssey 2 belongs on a list like this. This normal encounter monster in the game's final area is on par with the post-game superbosses, the rare (shiny version) even more so, and especially if you get stuck fighting 2 of them at once.
I liked that Godzilla a lot at the time. Don’t worry about saving money. I think I’ve lost more on the suggestions from video game channels than those that they like to pile the hate on. But I’ll admit, they’re not always wrong found some good stuff here.
The worse thing about the Chryssalid is their ambush ability. Burrowing underground, and jumping you when you get to close. The only way to defend yourself, is to have other soldiers in ambush, before you send one into their range.

One begins to see why Mother Brain chose him as a henchman, though I don't recall him ever using that ability on the N team. Then again, I never saw many episodes...
I usually don't say 'Git Gud' but Chrysalids are like the easiest enemies in all of XCom my guy. Not just are they melee only, and only appear on specific mission types, so you can more than prepare to fight them, but also there are several ways to deal with them easy, most of the time not even having to get anywhere near them. Shotguns and melee focused Rangers in 2 basically shred them

Hey Jules, how about side missions that meant more than the main story?
All of disc 3 in FF8. I've got GFs to fight, cards to collect, rare items to obtain..... I have no time for saving the world!
Good idea
