My trick to mind mapping is to simplify as much as possible. Replace words with images, and turn related key terms into mnemonics. Essentially make it as visual as possible and remove as many words as possible. Also, it doesn't have to be done in one session. Each time I come back to a mind map, I simply it further until I cannot. The key here is simplicity and clarity. Ultimately, our minds think visually first, so the ideal mind map should primarily consist of images.

@@ChintuRai-fk8rr Then it would be a bad mind map. The key word is "possible", meaning you don't have to get rid of all the words/ make them into visuals. You could use the camel example in the video where it was a picture combined with some labels. That way you can visual terms and still understand the images when looking back at it.

@@ChintuRai-fk8rryou can use autocad (an engineering program) to draw mind maps. you can include details with very very small font size (a whole page can be written as big as a single word). then whenever you want to see details you can just zoon in and see the details clearly.
the program allows you to add shapes figures and 3d shapes if you want and it has some other features.

First Cornell note taking to get the key information while hearing.
Then, that evening (spaced repetition) pull out the key concepts (and preferably share them with someone,)
A week later (spaced repetition) imagine and draw out a simple mind, as you describe.
A month later recreate the map and important facts and terms (recall and spaced repetition) and check.
Thanks, I think that helped me understand how to put mind maps in an efficient learning structure.

I have adhd, narcolepsy, synesthesia + so your mind map at 8:55 is my brain before, during, and after - all while taking neat notes and writing in the margins. I also put “items in rooms”, make up “stories for lists”, and have a photographic memory. I get sensory overloaded and easily distracted. For anyone interested, check out memory markers and the loci method. It's incredibly similar to using drawings as a main source of information sorting, but instead of actually drawing it, you visualize it. Over time, visualizing it ends up being faster than drawing a moon faced camel, and can even be more expressive if you're not a picasso!
Regardless, the use of visuals is key! Our brain stores info visual info better than linguistics.

I finally understand the concepts more compared to when I first started doing the notes. I still need a bit of practice with how much time I spend and not writing definitions but I really do feel I can go on trhough the rest of the semester of my chemistry, especially since I need a full term classes for my scholarship. It was also hard for me since I was online and not in person. I would really like tothank ya'll for your content, which has helped me a lot. The only thing is how to teach myself the problems 🤔.

    Summary + tips:
Mindmapping is all in simplification and efficiency. You want clarity and easy-revise material.
!! Don't spend too much time on mind maps, they might be a waste of time in itself then. If they take too much time, then you're not doing it right!
    * Highlight and extract all the key words and terms from the readings:
    - outline the terms
    - BUT NOT ALL of them are as important as each other. So Identify the main concepts and keep them as the 'trunk of
the tree', so try to bring structure into your mind map, it makes it simpler and more efficient.
    * Use the TREE method to structure your mind map:
T- thought process: how do they connect logically? Basically a brainstorming session, what are the connection/difference between the key terms? How are the main terms and key terms related? Are they a cause/effect? I sometimes mind map for important coding topics and I do them like "Floats" are data types, "Strings are data types too", variables how are they connected to these two? ah yes, in certain programming languages, both floats and strings can be a variable, some can't, some have exceptions, and then compare and contrast a lot. Soon enough you'll not only understand you can implement and manipulate it too.
R - Find relations: basically a part of the T process. If you did t well then R is a piece of cake for you ;) Connections = clarity, so be as connective as possible, be critical too, find something to relate on, even differences are relations. Somehow they must fall under the whole topic right? Find that piece.
E - be expressive. Your brain thinks visually before comprehending it textually. Personally, I do well with texts because I have a lack of imagination, but if I look at a mindmap with lots of easy to understand simple pics I would be thrilled to study (lol), it's because you don't have to read through tons and tons of text again when you revuse and it makes it easier for your brain. If you can, keep expressing yourself with pictures, mnemonics, drawings, songs, whatever, as long as you can understand it and it's easy for you to locate where to start and how to keep going, that's a fricking win!
E - be efficient: what it all boils down to. simple and efficient. Are the ideas flowing into one another? Are they all connected and expressed properly? If you started reviewing it after a few months where you forgot the material but you have a test the next day would you still be able to understand the material?
If you can, congrats, your a mindmap meister. Have a good day :)

THANK GOODNESS FOR VIDEOS LIKE THIS! A great mindset for learning: REMEMBER The brain learns by repetition.....so learning something new means the brain doesn't know. And therefore learning something you don't know is just 'UNFAMILIAR". The repetition will make the brain comfortable. But 1st its good took to rewire how the brain sees learning something new.
So SAY THIS TO YOURSELF: "This is hard to do or Learning something new is hard"
Then hum ABC song this accomplishing to things its a distraction and whimsical gives a feel good vibe.
Repeat 3x's(this literally will start to detach the "hard concept" cause you keep interrupting the pattern
More advanced results: think of something you failed to do and so didn't try anymore doing....say to self "such and such was hard and I can't do it, it made me feel (fill in the blank). Then hum ABC song (3x's)
If you do this now it will motivate you because the brain will stop automatically giving that message that things you don't know are hard.
Then you will find yourself actually practicing these tips in this video .

This is such a good video! You perfectly explained how good mind mapping works. Also, not having more than about 4 pieces of information linked to another piece of information has a scientific basis: you can only hold about 4 pieces of information in your working memory at any moment. Great content!

This was awesome. I tried using mind maps to study last semester and it was really effective but not time efficient at all to create or review, so as I got into heavier material I stopped. I think I was held back by thinking it had to look like a traditional mind map with one word in the middle connected to other words connected to more words.
This method seems much easier/freeing to create and review I’m excited to practice it this summer to where I can really take advantage of it next semester

Enjoyed every bit of this video. Mind-mapping is a creative process in the first place, and only then an instrument. It resonated with me that it’s not just growing up a tree trunk, but rather constantly restructuring, rethinking and even redrawing from the ground up. Keep up the good work!

    1.Understanding Mind Maps:
Mind maps help us understand and remember better.
They use visuals, analogies, and associations.
Compare mind maps to traditional notes; mind maps are more expressive and logical.
    2.The TREE Acronym:
Thought Process: Identify logical connections between key terms.
Relationships: Group related terms (e.g., kidney diseases by location).
Expressive: Use visuals (drawings, colors) to enhance memory.
Efficient: Make mind maps easy to review (clear flow, concise).
    3.Applying the Approach:
Prepare a list of key terms (e.g., nephropathology).
Outline main topics (trunk of the tree).
Plot main topics on the page.
Find thought process (e.g., timing of kidney damage).
Identify relationships (e.g., location within the kidney system).
    Be expressive (use visuals).
Make the mind map efficient for review.
Remember, mind maps adapt to any subject, even if you’re unfamiliar with it. 🌳🧠

Weirdly enough I went through your steps to help my classmates review the mathematical relationship between percents decimals and fractions and I am just now seeing your video. Great minds think alike I suppose. Also. We’re studying to become elementary educators. I’ve only struggled with math once in my life and that’s because the teacher wouldn’t help redescribe the concepts simply because I was still making As (after four to six hours of painstaking work and studying nearly each night). So I dropped the class (this was in high school). My friends (as we are learning these simple elementary math concepts) have told me I teach better than the teacher. I see things in diagrams naturally. Naturlich. Not everyone can do so. I worked with them. Showed them my process. Went step by step. And I think I’m helping. Sometimes it just takes a good teacher. And I guess if you don’t have that (rare in general but practically a naturally occurring diamond 💎 shape diamond rare in college) you gotta be your own teacher. It’s also crucial to note that neither one of these intelligent women were taught well as a child in elementary. Meaning they never got the proper explanation for the process. Of course they’re confused. And I stressed over and over. This is not your fault. At all. It takes time to rewire the brain. Truly that’s what we are doing here. Forcing our brains to think in an unfamiliar way changed the way we think in general. Hence why I’m labeled gifted because my brain naturally thinks like this. Downside is I’ve got a lot of.. let’s call them side effects.. that come with this. iykyk

I think another helpful idea would be to further expand on the relationships section... What types of questions can be asked to establish relationships between ideas? Perhaps hierarchical, time-based, cause-effect, contrasting relationships... And what could be some good examples of each relationship? I just found myself craving for more info on that part. Other than that, really helpful video for someone who's aspiring to level up his mind map game like me.

So I've been getting more into mind maps and I have to say. they're A-lot of effort to master for something that is good for a short summary of a subject. they are kind of like a gateway into the world of non linear note taking. if you're trying to get into them and having a hard time. Don't worry too much, we all are lmao. look more into finding a way to integrate mind maps into your linear note taking and instead of mindlessly writing stuff down, only right key terms and facts that will be useful to you in the long run and be creative with it (draw pictures and make it look nice). These guys are great but I think they glorify mind maps a little too hard. gud luck with ur studies. :)
