Is it related how important the concept are or influenced by that group/keywords? And this arrow }. Does it mean that the group/keywords theirs similarities and differences are the same? The only thing i think is missing is practical application like for each step if you apply it by doing it rather then showing already done examples choosing a specific topic it would become much more understandable
Check out David Goodwin and Oliver Camiogli. They’ve looked at a a lot of research on graphic organizers and use them daily in their teaching. The way they’ve distilled the different types (including mind maps) based on type has made using graphic organizers incredibly useful for me and my students
Also, there’s nothing magical about mind maps/concept maps. They’re one type of graphic organizer (and useful!), but don’t try to fit a square peg in a round whole. If you need to compare something, analyze cause and effect, or a sequence perhaps a different organizer would better suit your purposes

Should we incorporate spaced repetition and interleaving when using a mind map? I've seen that people often revisit and add to their mind maps in an iterative process, which I assume helps with spaced learning. However, should we completely recreate the mind map and space out the process? Wouldn't that be time-consuming?

Hi, I'm new here so I'm not sure if you have already made a video about this but I think it would be helpful, especially for beginners, if you could talk about how to actually understand which bits of information are the most important. I believe the reason for which beginner students struggle with leaving traditional notes behind is that most times professors mention small things, concepts or names that may not seem that important at first but then turn out to be when you take the test. Therefore people try to write everything down to avoid missing anything. The same can happen while doing a mind map: if I don't know how to identify important information I'm going to write everything down, resulting in a very messy and gigantic mind map. Without knowing how to evaluate information it would be hard to even approach GRINDE successfully. Anyways thanks a lot for your videos and help!
I just switched to mind mapping this first semester, still went with linear for some subjects, but for the ones I mindmapped, I felt somehow overwhelmed because it was way too slow from how I usually learn, but after seeing this vid, I am kind of relieved. I am on the right path❤ Thank you Justin
@@amilk1948 Just got my results yesterday and passed all! For smaller subjects, I still stayed on linear, but on heavier subjects, I mind mapped and combined it with blurting. I'd say so far, it still takes time, so I made sure that 1 had plenty of time before the exam to refine the mind map, but for sure, it made my memory and comprehension better
I’ve joined your course and learned the method you taught but it didn’t work for me. These methods in itself induced high level of cognitive load, the micro decision in comparing and evaluating which group is more intuitive and nature of relationship as well as its importance is cognitively challenging. I ignored your advice to practise and reflect on the technique, as a result I got even more confused than before as error compounded on error. I decided to work from the beginning and after practising consistently for a couple of months, it’s finally clicking. Your method is life transforming. Thank you Dr Justin Sung!

At the beginning when I started to watch your videos on learning science , It seemed to me that Learning is easier but when I started to understand more about it , then according to that learning should be a little bit uncomfortable so that it can helps in real learning . It will not work for majority of the people. The primary reason for problems in connecting the facts is mental fog caused by stress and bad diet. No single strategy will work before learning to relax and cutting sugar form diet. After repearing those two your mind will improve by itself. It's my journey. If you have problems with spacial orientation your mind is sick. Feeling of being lost is directly connected to it. Fix diet and learn to be relaxed. Eyes exercises are amazing. They can relax you in a matter of seconds. It will pay off hugely 😊

Hi Justin, Your video definitely helps in knowing the importance of mind maps and ways to make it better although i have a suggestion that you could have explained the whole process in simpler less scientific words. The concepts are simple in itself but the language made it seem complex and took quite some time to understand
For the E - emphasize part. Do we need to clarify early our objective in making the mindmap/learning session and emphasize more on that? Or is it dynamic, in which we emphasize our findings of key concept (layer 1) throughout the session? I think a video more about D (directionality) and E (emphasize) would be helpful. I would love to see the development process of a mind map about GRINDE aka the content of this video - including reviewing and correcting. I think everyone watching this video could relate to the subject - creating a mm. And the thoughts why some groupings, emphasizing etc are made would be more comprehensible.

Should I store it for later consultation or should I use active recall to remember stuff from it. What I mean is, after you finish mindmapping, what do you do after it?
first of all, Thank you for the video! It was perfectly well-structured and very helpful! Could you focus on the Grouping aspects in more detail in a next video. I think this is the most important step. There are so many options to group information so sometimes its very hard to pick which grouping is the best :)

Thanks for amazing videos, but could you, please, think about making wordwritting more readeable on your examples? Or if you could just read them out loud. It's very hard to understand how and why you rearrange groups without being able to read the words. After each example like this I'm left with a feeling that I'm unsure whether I understood you or not.
Thank for the dedicated video, I have decided to be a non-stop learner, and currently learning to use mindmap, the video helps a lot, thank again. Also, I agree with the part about AI, it is a great tool, but at the same time easy to misuse--just like the smartphone. We should not use the AI in ways that harmful to our thinking, as a human, "our most important skill is the ability to think". And "use it or lose it", we do not use our brain, it's gonna ATROPHY ~
Hi Justin, I'm wondering if you can show us another case study with students, featuring mindmaps with humanities subjects? For example, fine art, history, literature etc. I've noticed the groupability of elements of these subjects in a mindmap is not always evident, as they are not always very binary as science.
Is it better to create a map for several disease processes onto one map? Or should I create a separate map for each topic individually? For example, skin cancer, breast cancer and lung cancer. Should I create one map with all 3 to be able to compare them? Or create a map of each individually?
Great video! I really appreciate the mnemonic GRINDE to really parse what makes for an effective mind map. That said, I do have a question: Say you are a beginner self-studying chemistry from a textbook, would you recommend making individual mindmaps for each chapter and then make a comprehensive mind map after going through the whole textbook? Or, would it be better to have one "incomplete" mind map that you fill in over time as you work through the textbook?
I think that he said somewhere that an ideal would be to make a mindmap that is as shallow as possible but it spans the entire textbook and then building upon it. He also mentioned that it is basically impossible for somebody without A LOT of experience and it's ok to go e.g. 50 pages at a time
Justin sung is the only individual i know who uses the keywords thinking, processing, cognitive etc in an indrusty about thinking, processing, cognition.
Is minmapping a process that is done in iterations? I mean when I start studying a very new subject, I don’t think I would be able to create this level of map even if I master the techniques of mind mapping...what about you?

I have a question about studying: when I’m reading a book, do I have to read a chapter first then re-read it scanning/skimming, do I scan it / skim it first to collect concepts then re-read it to deeply understand what is being taught, or neither of those opinions? I am a law student and there are many laws there sections and maxims( latina sentences) which effects self study and makes it hard too
I suggest you utilize mnemonic techniques for numbers and vocabulary such as spellings

Hi, I'm new here so I'm not sure if you have already made a video about this but I think it would be helpful, especially for beginners, if you could talk about how to actually understand which bits of information are the most important. I believe the reason for which beginner students struggle with leaving traditional notes behind is that most times professors mention small things, concepts or names that may not seem that important at first but then turn out to be when you take the test. Therefore people try to write everything down to avoid missing anything. The same can happen while doing a mind map: if I don't know how to identify important information I'm going to write everything down, resulting in a very messy and gigantic mind map. Without knowing how to evaluate information it would be hard to even approach GRINDE successfully.

I just switched to mind mapping this first semester, still went with linear for some subjects, but for the ones I mindmapped, I felt somehow overwhelmed because it was way too slow from how I usually learn, but after seeing this vid, I am kind of relieved. I am on the right path❤ Thank you Justin

@@amilk1948 Just got my results yesterday and passed all! For smaller subjects, I still stayed on linear, but on heavier subjects, I mind mapped and combined it with blurting. I'd say so far, it still takes time, so I made sure that 1 had plenty of time before the exam to refine the mind map, but for sure, it made my memory and comprehension better

I’ve joined your course and learned the method you taught but it didn’t work for me. These methods in itself induced high level of cognitive load, the micro decision in comparing and evaluating which group is more intuitive and nature of relationship as well as its importance is cognitively challenging. I ignored your advice to practise and reflect on the technique, as a result I got even more confused than before as error compounded on error. I decided to work from the beginning and after practising consistently for a couple of months, it’s finally clicking. Your method is life transforming. Thank you Dr Justin Sung!

Been following you for quite a while and I can say I have improved in seeing learning from a whole new perspective, especially with the PERRIO system as a key highlight would humbly request that you do a video on how to approach learning online courses combining both the videos and soft copy resources from these online courses effectively.
relational is for the things inside the groups and interconnected is for the connection between the groups ? For building direction, what strategies can we use ? can it be like building a ind map to answer a question or to make an application in real life with the information/knowledge ?

It will not work for majority of the people.
The primary reason for problems in connecting the facts is mental fog caused by stress and bad diet.
No single strategy will work before learning to relax and cutting sugar form diet.
After repearing those two your mind will improve by itself.
It's my journey.
If you have problems with spacial orientation your mind is sick. Feeling of being lost is directly connected to it.
Fix diet and learn to be relaxed.
Eyes exercises are amazing. They can relax you in a matter of seconds.
It will pay off hugely 😊

For the E - emphasize part. Do we need to clarify early our objective in making the mindmap/learning session and emphasize more on that?
Or is it dynamic, in which we emphasize our findings of key concept (layer 1) throughout the session?

Hey Justin, excellent video! I have just one more question about mindmaps: after I finish my mindmap completely (doing everything right), is there any use of using it after its finish? Should I store it for later consultation or should I use active recall to remember stuff from it. What I mean is, after you finish mindmapping, what do you do after it?
first of all, Thank you for the video! It was perfectly well-structured and very helpful! Could you focus on the Grouping aspects in more detail in a next video. I think this is the most important step. There are so many options to group information so sometimes its very hard to pick which grouping is the best :)

Thanks for amazing videos, but could you, please, think about making wordwritting more readeable on your examples? Or if you could just read them out loud. It's very hard to understand how and why you rearrange groups without being able to read the words. After each example like this I'm left with a feeling that I'm unsure whether I understood you or not.

Hi Justin, I'm wondering if you can show us another case study with students, featuring mindmaps with humanities subjects? For example, fine art, history, literature etc. I've noticed the groupability of elements of these subjects in a mindmap is not always evident, as they are not always very binary as science.

Hey Justin, could it be beneficial to write linear notes during the lecture and create a mind map afterwards using the notes you took in class?
Is it better to create a map for several disease processes onto one map? Or should I create a separate map for each topic individually? For example, skin cancer, breast cancer and lung cancer. Should I create one map with all 3 to be able to compare them? Or create a map of each individually?
Great video! I really appreciate the mnemonic GRINDE to really parse what makes for an effective mind map. That said, I do have a question: Say you are a beginner self-studying chemistry from a textbook, would you recommend making individual mindmaps for each chapter and then make a comprehensive mind map after going through the whole textbook? Or, would it be better to have one "incomplete" mind map that you fill in over time as you work through the textbook?
I think that he said somewhere that an ideal would be to make a mindmap that is as shallow as possible but it spans the entire textbook and then building upon it. He also mentioned that it is basically impossible for somebody without A LOT of experience and it's ok to go e.g. 50 pages at a time

Is minmapping a process that is done in iterations? I mean when I start studying a very new subject, I don’t think I would be able to create this level of map even if I master the techniques of mind mapping...what about you?

When should you use a mind-map? Is this something you use whilst learning a new topic (e.g. sitting in a lecture), or is this something you use nearer the end of a course as a revision and consolidation method?

I have a question about studying: when I’m reading a book, do I have to read a chapter first then re-read it scanning/skimming, do I scan it / skim it first to collect concepts then re-read it to deeply understand what is being taught, or neither of those opinions?
