There's always a tell. If it's a hammy villain or if there's some kind of underlying sexual feelings, then it's him. Though Nigel Thornberry is the oddball of the bunch.

Tim Curry may well have one of the most diverse acting filmographies.
Not only has he done film, television, stage, musicals, live action and voicework, but he's ranged from doing little kids shows like Wonder Pets to downright grownup entertainment like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, from playing a lovable dope Nigel Thornberry to the psychotic killer clown Pennywise, from playing the king of darkness to having a sword duel with Kermit the Frog.
he's also been the leader of the Soviet Union in Red Alert 3
Ah yes. And he also played a wilderness girl scout.
When was that Sword fight?
Curry's sword duel with Kermit was in the film Muppet Treasure Island. Another one of Curry's greats because it involved him being a villain, a pirate, over-the-top, he had a musical number, and he co-starred with the Muppets.

You should've put any clip where Nigel Thornberry says "Smashing" because that's a true testament to how Tim Curry could roll off the tongue. He's always had a talent for voicing villains, the more devious and despicable, the better.
Or Trader Slick trying to sell us rubbish or dangerous artefacts.
Or this little gem: "I know! When I get up, I'll do this with my hands. Blaarghghahagh!"
My favorite line is "Back to the Convoy!"
4:25 As soon as you hear his voice you can immediately go "He did it"
When I was watching "Over the Garden Wall" the first time and immediately recognized Tim Curry as Auntie Whispers; the quiet, slow pacing in his performance really hits hard how bad his stroke and age has affected him and that he could no longer deliver the hammy acting and range that made him so beloved.
I think for that particular role it works that he's a bit more coldly sinister. Either way, it's great that he can still work and delight his fans.
My favorite was always Hexus from Ferngully.

When I first saw Over the Garden Wall, I was caught off-guard when I found out he voiced Auntie Whispers. Such a wonderful, talented voice actor!

Voice actor had a greater range than I ever thought and so many times I never realized he was voicing some of these characters! Though his main maniacal evil voice is a good telltale ^_^
Josh N, Tim Curry also has a certain nasally smooth sound to his voice that makes him very recognizable, if you listen closely.

From the simplest saturday morning cartoon to the biggest theatrical movie, Tim Curry always bring such a charme and powerful mystique to any character! There is just no role of him that I can't help but admire **
Tim Curry really does a lot of Disney Characters.
Tim Curry's favorite villain role was for sure in Gargoyles as Anton Sevarious in Gargoyles The Animated Series but also amazing in The mask and as Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars Rebels.
Raghu Seetharaman it is Drake.
Actually, they used Sam Witwer to voice Palpatine in Season 2, and brought Ian McDiarmid back to portray him in Season 4.
He played palpatine in the last season of clone wars and after the episode where palpatine killed savage. He was not in rebels.
Mine was King Renard from Xyber 9, and the Serpent from Stories from the Bible

Fun Fact: Tim was going to be the Joker in Batman TAS but Luke Skywalker used the force to get the role.
From what I've heard, they weren't thrilled with Curry's take. Supposedly it was because Curry, having been a smoker all his life, couldn't do the high pitched laughs they wanted.

Mr. Curry is a fine actor, but I'm really not sure I believe he lost this part to Mark due to smoking, or a cold...
When we met Mr. Curry two years ago he was so sweet . You could tell he was so happy to see all the fans that came to meet him.

I always find it interesting how Tim Currey has been on both sides of the ecological spectrum. First he played an evil cloud of smoke who wanted to destroy the environment (Hexxus), then he played a TV documentary host who wanted to protect it using eduction as his main tool (Nigel Thornberry). He was a great boon to show business and he is missed.

Yup, he was the second voice of that character in the show after Ian Abercrombie passed away.
Tim Curry is the modern Mel Blanc. He's got more talent than any other. He's an actor on stage, screen, and TV, plus his voiceover and singing. Nobody else could do Frankenfurter in Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Him, and also Jim Cummings, Frank Welkers, Rob Paulson, and Tara Strong, they’re like the modern day spiritual successors of Mel Blanc!😄😏😎
Not to mention his skills are just. As good in 1971 as they are in 2024 as a voice actor.
He was the in Queer Duck the movie as well. That movie, despite being low-budget and extremely niche, has a lot of great voice actors and celebrities like Mark Hamill, Andy Dick and Conan O'Brien.

Tim Curry is, was and will always be etched in humanity's mind as the perfect joyous villain. Be it as an actor, a voice-actor or even motion actor.

Fun Fact: Tim Curry was actually going to voice the Joker in Batman the Animated Series. But sadly he was rejected because the test audience stupidly thought his voice sounded "too scary", and he unfortunately got replaced by Mark Hamill and his Joker voice made us audiences scared for 3 decades straight until he retired from the role out of respect for Batman's voice actor Kevin Conroy who sadly died this past November. Plus Batman the Animated Series had plenty of dark moments already so replacing Tim as Joker is the most hypocritical and stupid excuse ever.

Upon seeing FernGully, I had automatically clicked on this video. A whole chunk of my childhood on a VHS tape made such an impacts, huh. Never knew Tim Curry voiced Hexxus. His voice was lowkey sexy.
My mom hated, and I mean hated Tim Curry's voice. She wouldn't let us watch Fern Gully or Pebble and the Penguin because his timbre in those drove her up a wall to the point of "feeling violated" (her words).
However, she loved Darkwing Duck, Talespin, and other of our cartoons. She never realized he was Taurus Bulba (her DWD fav. villain), among dozens of other favorite characters. I never told her >:)
He is such a talented actor. Distinctive when he wants to be, part of the crowd in the next role.

One of his more obscure voice credits was in the Will Vinton stop-motion sitcom Gary & Mike where in two episodes he played Mr. Whitman and Jared Wexxler. Barely anybody remembers that show, but it will always remain a hidden gem to me...

As an Englishman, I find it really amusing that British people with an RP accent(Received pronunciation) get cast as the villains. Many find it an intimidating accent that radiates intelligence, intrigue and sophistication. To me, it sounds like every bloke I meet at the country club, suburban supermarket or theatrical society. Tim Curry is an awesome and perfect example of the English villain stereotype. He plays all his roles with utter conviction and clarity. He always offers a sterling performance. He even uses his wit and natural satirical humour to his advantage. Simply magnificent.
I never new just how much of Legend Tim is. He is indeed a LIVING LEGEND!!!!

I have vague memories of watching Disney's "The Little Mermaid" series as a kid, yet vividly remember The Evil Manta, who scared the crud out of me. As an adult, when I discovered that Tim Curry voiced him, I was like "Oh, no wonder!" XD!

Tim Curry is my childhood when it comes to all the villains he's voiced. He does great work and he's a hell of a singer..now I'm going to go listen to "Anything can Happen on Halloween"..it's one of the songs I love to listen to every October and another song he has fun with.

Ah man didn’t realize he was the main villain in the mask.. loved that as a kid. He did so many great voices through my childhood without even realizing it.
Villains are his forte but the voice of King Acorn makes me think Tim Curry could have voiced kinder or fatherly roles.
"Not his *forte,"* ha ha. Speaking of which, if you want to see Tim in a kinder role, he's not listed here but I highly recommend his role as the Beast in Beauty & the Beast: The Tale of the Crimson Flower. He treads a familiar but more restrained villain territory when he calls out the father Stephen (yes that is the character's name) for stealing off his property, but once he's with Anastasia (the Beauty), it's honestly incredible how gentle and understanding he is during their interactions. 🌹🥰
And he manages to be quite fatherly both as Nigel Thornberry & as the Goblin King (though mainly towards the end of the film, when he & his daughter are reunited following her kidnapping).
His Captain Hook was perfect.
It's true--he doesn't have one of those voices that can sound like anyone. But the moment you heard him, the world moved. So deep and so powerful, pure magic....
I loved the movie of Annie where he played a villain also. I watched that movie so many times it was hard not to recognize his voice in cartoons. He has a very distinct accent.

I guess you can say I’m proud to grow up knowing Tim Curry and his work. Along with various other voice actors that’s been with us since childhood. Kinda inspires myself to be a VA for this generation of kids

By far one of my all time favorite actors. Knew most of his roles, but had no idea that he was in The Rugrats Movie, Aaaaahhh! Real Monsters or Dinosaurs and I've seen each of those a million times. I now have to revisit my ENTIRE childhood.

And Darkness in the movie Legend with Tom Cruise. I get that this was "showcasing" his work for animation of various types, but as far as not "seeing" Tim's face to match with the voice I think Pennywise and Darkness qualify to be included.
