I may think Jordan was the best, but Bird is the only other person in the conversation. People talk about players from the last decade like they're the best, I just give them the side eye. They don't know.
Here's a story I saw from a man who said he was in the 8th grade while Larry Bird was a senior & P.E. assistant at Springs Valley High School. One day the coach set up a trampoline 35 feet from the goal. He then had Larry jump & shoot baskets. For every one he made, the coach would cut a lap the class had to run. Bird made 7 out of 10 shots while jumping & the guy said it made him understand that by working hard & not giving up, he could make his dreams come true. Larry put in the work to get as good as he was.
Watching Larry Bird growing up a Lakers fan made appreciate the rivalry. The NBA of today can't hold a candle to the 80's through the mid 90's. They were killers out on the court.
Great video. As a kid in 80s 90s Boston Garden you would leave with 10 mind left and then hear crowd going crazy and you could sneak back in to watch Bird put up 20 in the 4th.
Larry wasn't arrogant.. he was confident.. He told them what he was gonna do.. and did it. Not trash talking when you can back it up. And your last comment about how hard work will make things happen.. in any sport or any career ..or life itself.. you have to put the work in.

Excellent job my friend! Appreciate your honesty and sincerity. I grew up in Dallas and used to look for Celtics games on tv so I could watch Bird play. From a 68 year old white man.
An NBA great said Larry Bird's strongest muscle was his brain! He was playing chess, when the other players were playing checkers. Larry was an around baller. He could shoot really well, Plus he was a great passer, a true team player, and very tough!!!! In one game he hit the floor face first and broke some bones in his face. He left briefly and then came back out & finished the game. Larry shot an entire three point contest with his warm-up jacket on. Before hand he asked the others who is going to finish second, because I'm going to win this. And he did!!!! In another game he told everyone I'm bored with this series, so next game I'm going to shoot the whole game left handed and he did. Near the end he went back to shooting with his right hand. To use a saying from today ---- "He talked the talk, and he walked the walk!" He backed up what he said. He coached! He was a good administrator. A once in a lifetime basketball brain.. Everyone had trouble guarding Bird, everyone!!! It is NOT bragging if you do what you said you were going to do!!! Larry played in the NBA back when it was very physical. Back then when they fouled you , they fouled you. They would knock you into next week!! Plus he was fun to watch!!!!!
One of the greatest coach's of the game(Pat Riley)once said "If I have to choose a player to take a shot to save a game I'd choose Michael Jordan...If I have to choose a player to take a shot to save my life... I'd take Larry Bird!". Bird was a masterful basketball player. His game is ageless. And in top of that, he is the best trash talker in the history of the game and beyond but he baked up each and every time. To me, he is the Muhammed Ali of basketball.
See, to show you how legendary Larry Bird was, you need to see the reaction to his 60 point game against the Atlanta Hawks. He was so hot that night, he had members of the Hawks cheering him on as he hit shot after shot setting a scoring record.
Bird and Magic are friends. They been friends since they both retired. Larry was a complete player. Shooter, high assists, high rebounds, and high steals. He played hard and he played hurt.
He drove Jordan bananas. Just listen to MJs speech when Bird retired . MJ " good, I'm glad. I'm tired of seeing your face" as in name a team Jordan scores 63 and goes home a loser. 😮😮😮😮 what! Broomed Jordan out of the playoffs in back to back seasons. 0-3 0-3 😂
I appreciate your reactions. And I want to suggest a couple. If you want the Birdgang to show up, Larry Bird - Bird is the word 15 minutes of Larry Legend. And Larry Bird - I Am Legend. They are both outstanding, and fun.
That's the difference between Larry and Lebron. Larry came into the league, improved his team by 33 wins his rookie year, and led them to a ring his second year. He was built differently. Larry was born with that killer instinct, the ability to lead, and when it came down to taking a game-winning shot, there is nobody in the history of the game who did it better. Lebron is an athletic freak but in my opinion he wasn't built like that. He really didn't get to that point until his 30s..to me that is the difference between an all time great like James and a Legend like Bird. I understand why this generation picks Lebron , but its just because they don't know. They didn't see Larry play or realize the impact he had on the league, that is why i am glad these videos exist
Bird carried the Celtics on his shoulders to three NBA titles (and came close to winning several more) with no other superstar players to help him out. The Celtics fell to mediocracy immediately after he retired. He was a true legend and one of the greatest to ever play the game.
I grew up from 14 on watching John Stockton, you haven't watched that dude's highlights you don't know how a point guard plays. I've got 20 guys on my top 5 list including Lebron and my favorite, Kobe, but Stockton was lethal if for nothing else his pain tolerance. Dude played injured for 20 years at a high level. He and Isaiah Thomas (also top 20) would go at it, saw it live a few times, and both loved and hated each other which is really the only way to compete. Not seeing that in today's players.
I was lucky enough to be a teen in the 80s. My step brother and his then girlfriend got me into a sports bar and we watched the lakers play the celtics for the titles.
Bird was neither the most gifted nor the most athletic player yet Like Tom Brady he still was able to beat all those who were. with his exceptional basketball IQ, competitiveness, trash talk and the following: Perseverance: Overcoming injuries and always pushing himself to improve. Determination: Leading the Boston Celtics to multiple championships and consistently performing at a high level. Tenacity: Competing fiercely on the court, never backing down from a challenge. Resilience: Bouncing back from setbacks and maintaining a high standard of play throughout his career. Fortitude: Demonstrating mental and physical toughness, especially in critical moments of games
Fans underappreciate Bird for the same reasons they underappreciate Jokic, they are too focused on highlights and point scoring. Bird was terrifying to play against because he made his whole team better and demoralized the opposing team, arguably the most clutch player ever in the NBA who would hustle for every possession. there's no scenario where Bird isn't starting on my all time team. few athletes have the Gretzky level see all quality. those are the true greats. Bird is one of those

Excellent breakdown of the top notch players all showing love for Larry Legend . Keep up the good work , but honestly HOLMES ( hahaha) anything you do about Larry can’t be bad !
Just imagine how they would talk about Larry legend if his career hadn't ended a few years early due to his back injury. Remember that bird retired the year before the bulls won their first title, so there is something to think about cause what if a healthy bird was still around to possibly stop that first title run lol.
Bird had to be an alien. From the time I was 9 until I was 18 you were either a Lakers or a Celtics fan. I loved Lakers showtime and Bird drove me absolutely crazy. The dude could absolutely play whenever he wanted to better than anyone else but looked like a dude who changed oil at the local oil change shop which made him even more annoying.
It baffles me that David Robinson thinks Bird was "humble". Bird had a blue-collar, outwork everyone mentality and may have lived a humble life away from the game. . . but he was hardly humble when he was on the court. The non-athletic comments about Bird are also a bit misleading. He certainly wasn't fast in a Kyrie or Iverson sense, but he had an amazingly quick first step. Considering he was listed at 6'9", (but was likely 6'10") he could jump better than folks thought - he just didn't need to. He was strong. He had amazing endurance. And he probably had some of the best hand-eye coordination ever. As great a shooter as he was, he said that he never had the same feel for the ball after he mangled his shooting hand index finger playing a charity softball game in college.. Great reaction. I love the respect for Bird and all the greats of his era.
People talk about Grit all the time these days. Nobody personifies the marriage of grit and skill more than Larry Bird. Baller with brains and heart...and a trash talking SOB!!
When it comes to GOAT talk!! LB is one of a few closest to MJ!!! He WAS the GOAT of small forwards!!! Top 5 FOR SURE!! He was ruthless, an assassin!!!! Talked the trash, greatest of all time, and backed it up!!! If I had one player to pick to take the game winning shot?? It'd be Bird every day of the week and twice on Sunday!! PERIOD!!! Even over MJ...
Every single dude on this video talking about Bird are on my basketball idol list. Let's get this out of the way, I'm white, when I was growing up we didn't care who was white or black we just loved basketball. I love this video of young dudes that are my sons' ages that are getting into 1980s basketball. NBA used to be so much fun, now it's like a job to watch the NBA and I'm kind of over it.
Larry Bird athletically was what Tom Brady was to football. Not the highest jumper, not the fastest or most agile, but killed you with efficiency. With the added perk of will back up his trash talk while he kills you.
Nice video bro. Larry Bird was a lethal assassin on the court and in my opinion the GOAT of the NBA. He could do it all and smoked everybody including Jordan who he swept TWICE in the playoffs. 0-6
Another little known fact. Larry Bird is the only player of that era that has a winning record against Jordan. Both in the regular season and in the playoffs. He's the only player of that era that Jordan couldn't get the best of. They faced each other a total of 34 times in NBA games. LB has a 23-11 winning record over MJ, including a 6-0 record in playoffs. Look it up.
MJ had 1 rule for the whole team. No one was to say a single word to Bird. Hope you can find the interview where MJ says he learned everything about mind games from Bird. It goes beyond getting the other player outta their game. You don’t just dominate your opponent you go till they feel like they can’t hope to win. Larry is the only player more clutch than Jordan. So I have them 1a & 1b just a whole level above everyone else I watched. Hey let’s get a Dominque highlight reaction. I still believe Nique won that dunk contest. MJ had already done the free throw line dunk the previous contest. Nique dunked with more power too. The Dominque vs Bird ECF battle was unreal!
Bird's career was ruined by the death of Len Bias. Best player in CBB going to the champs and one of the best teams in NBA history. The best player in CBB, 6'8" 215 lbs with a 41' vertical and an NBA body. ACC opponents said he was like a 6'8" Micheal Jordan. C's needed frontcourt help badly; Bird was 30 but his back was starting to give out. Bias was gonna be a superstar in that league, he had it all.
I still love watching basketball but the last 15 years has gone downhill. They just stand around shootings 3s. Games were so much more physical. Larry would light it today with the way defense is played
Lebron obviously has the longevity awards, but as far as who I'd want to take a time machine to grab to lead my team in a series that I absolutely had to win, I'm definitely taking Bird in his prime. Bird at his best was among the best I've EVER seen. One could make a strong argument Bird was the best player of all time before Michael Jordan hit his prime the following decade. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has an argument for GOAT, and he said Bird was the best player he has ever played against, the bitter archrival of his legendary Lakers squad.
Joe D: "...how hard it was to go into Boston and beat a team when Bird was in his prime." LOUDER for the Gen Zs who think Chicago getting swept in 86 (as an 8-seed) is ammo against Jordan in the LeBron debate. Including the postseason, Boston was 50-1 at home that year.
I was 11yo when Larry entered the League and as a white dude myself, I despised the guy. He always had such a snotty, arrogant, conceited look on his face; I mean, how could any opposing fan even stand him? But I'll tell you what, I was never more sad to see a player go the day he retired. Well, except for Magic maybe. Or maybe Kareem even...lol. but the fact is, Larry Bird was absolutely friggin amazing to watch. Thanks for the vid, much appreciated.
Bird went 6/0 against Jordan in the finals, and Jordan never managed to get the better of Bird even after Pippen joined the Bulls. Bird is the real GOAT.
Enjoyed your video. But learn when to talk and when to let us hear the legends talk. Steve Cropper was a legendary guitarist that even Hendrix mentions because he developed his style to play when the singers weren’t singing.
Legends saying Larry Legend was just that.. a legend. How amazing a tribute to Larry Bird.

@@rmcfete lol….where the hell do you think Jordan learned to trash talk from!! He was 0-6 against Larry Legend in the playoffs!!
Just imagine how they would talk about Larry legend if his career hadn't ended a few years early due to his back injury. Remember that bird retired the year before the bulls won their first title, so there is something to think about cause what if a healthy bird was still around to possibly stop that first title run lol.

I'm 53..Bird is the 2nd best player I've ever seen behind Mike.
comparing LeJoke to Larry Bird?... that should not be in the discussion... unbelievable! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Thanks for watching ❤️
I'm old enough to have watched him play. LeBron was great, but he has weaknesses. Bird in his day was flawless.

How does anyone talk about great players without talking about Dumars? That dude was so money.

Good job young man...

People talk about Grit all the time these days. Nobody personifies the marriage of grit and skill more than Larry Bird. Baller with brains and heart...and a trash talking SOB!!

Jordan made you look slow.
Bird made you look stupid.

Bird will always be in my top 5. 1-3 may be hard to beat, but bird has the numbers in those unknown factors that can't be calculated.

But talent that works hardest is best

Imagine if Bird was athletic........

He had to give them a chance somehow... lol
I don't know how Zeke can sit near Malone. 😮

Larry Legend is still one of the best to ever do it...he beat all the greats

Larry Bird athletically was what Tom Brady was to football. Not the highest jumper, not the fastest or most agile, but killed you with efficiency. With the added perk of will back up his trash talk while he kills you.
Thanks for watching ❤️
Nice video bro. Larry Bird was a lethal assassin on the court and in my opinion the GOAT of the NBA. He could do it all and smoked everybody including Jordan who he swept TWICE in the playoffs. 0-6
Thank for watching ❤️

Defenders and Offenders. Love it! ❤ Bird was one of the most offensive players ever. In your mommas face😮

Do, (Larry Bird: the greatest passer of all time) then you might understand how good all around this cat was
I was 11yo when Larry entered the League and as a white dude myself, I despised the guy.

The only thing LBJ had on Bird... 6 FINALS LOSSES
