As a fan of the Showtime Lakers, we always marked the games against the Celtics on the calendar. We'd check the box scores and see how Bird was humiliating teams in the East. We hated Larry and kept a fear in our hearts because we knew If he played his game, he would beat us single-handedly and we'd be powerless to stop him.
@infiniteuniverse9528 Larry Bird would always try to get everyone involved. There was a game that Larry didn't take a shot in the 4th quarter, but he fed all his team mates. They were double and triple teaming Larry. I can't remember who the team was ,maybe my data bank is fragmented. But even MJ said it, no one man can beat the Boston Celtics.
@@infiniteuniverse9528 the hick from French Lick was a terror to any team on the other side of the court. His hard work is legendary and a great inspiration for kids who think their natural talent will se them thru. Larry practiced hard and made his physical game competitive then he thought hard and his mental game put him in the right place at the right time. When Mai and having a sucky day, about 10 minutes of Legend on TH-cam gives me a big smile and a whistle.
I love the way you go into depth of these other players. Usually other vids just jump straight to the guy talking about LL. I learned a lot. I love the way the greats always say they want to play *against* the other greats vs with them. Except in things like all-star games. Plus, I like being able to cheer the guys I'm supposed to "hate" during the season.
Have you noticed that ALL of the true greats bring their team mates up to the heights with them? This holds true in any sport. Some folks are leaders some are NOT.. The people telling these stories are some of the best to EVER walk out on to the hardwood. The thing I loved the most about Larry Legend was his play backed up his mouth. Many people these days talk the talk BUT do not walk the walk! Larry could do it ALL............ Bird's fakes broke ankles! This time period was back when the NBA was fun to watch! Very physical, hands on!!! Larry and Magic respected each other and loved each other. Bird lived in the other players heads. One player said Bird was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers. Watch his film and you will see for yourself...... Plus he went on to coach and work in the front office. A rare feat for anyone!! The man was/is a stud!!! He would play hurt, I'm talking about broken bones in his face and head hurt. His will to win was unmatched.............
If all these NBA legends keep saying that Larry J.Bird was the best and toughest player they ever played against, why isn’t he considered the GOAT. It’s a rhetorical question people ,(for the slower people out there it means no answer required , I’m attempting to make a statement by asking the question).
Pat Riley summed Larry bird the most succinct way . The player I would want to take last shot if the championship was on the line is Michael Jordan . The player I would want if my life was on the line I would want Larry Bird to take the shot.
Because in NBA standards, his movement was not quick at all. He made it up with 10/10 basketball intelligence, skills and mentality. That's what Robinson was trying to say, and he's not the only one to say that.
You can’t play in the NBA and not be a great athlete. Larry could run for DAYS. He once ran a 5 mile race before a game. His stamina was insane. He had intelligence, quick reflexes, an incredible skill set and he could shoot your lights out. He could pass like a magician and he could DUNK. But like I said… EVERYONE who ever played in the NBA was an incredible athlete.
Little known fact but Larry Bird only feared one player, Slam Dunk Ernest. There is a documentary about their one on one match in 1988. Bird lost in three straight sets, 6-1 6-3 and 6 love.
What I love about Bird is that he didn't need to be fast or terribly athletic to dominate. He did it with superior anticipation and court smarts, superb fundamentals, hustle, shot selection, laser-accurate passing, defense, and seeming to know what the team need in a given moment - be it scoring, rebounding, or whatever. He always could see the big picture of what was going on as a game unfolded. Oh, yeah - and he was the master at getting under his opponents skin! LOL
The Admiral came into the Association at the end of the Legend's time. Robinson was a rookie in 1990, when Bird was already limited by serious back pain. So, he never even played against prime time Bird 1984-87. Same for The Glove. That both those guys recognized the ability of Bird in the twilight days only emphasizes how great he was in his prime. Focusing on trash talking distracts from Bird's legendary all around game skills. Also, Magic faced Bird "countless times"? You mean "uncounted" since the number of times they played is well documented and can be counted if you care to know.
How many times do you have to say Kareem Abdul-Jabbar you must have said it 30 times you did it with other players to it's ridiculous we know who you're talking about okay and first of all it's luau sender with the amazing hook shot and that's where I learned to correctly score without anybody touching me that hook shot really the skyhook

You notice Larry wore black Converse, Red Aroubach said it wasn't for style, it's because they were the cheapest kicks.

I agree. Larry SHOULD BE in the GOAT conversation
Legend 🏀🇫🇷👍@@irishgrl
Larry IS the GOAT!.
Larry Bird is the goat certain people just won’t admit it
Bird took one of the worst teams in the league 29-53 to an amazing 61-21 record.
Nobody played like Bird

Gen X the luckiest generation. We got to see the great players from the 80s to today.
Good job creating this video. You have a very professional voice.
It's a robo-voice. Humans don't say the "76 eee arrrs," or "80 and 90 ess" for 80s and 90s.
How is Larry Bird not a great athlete ?

Weak arguments

Never heard of this. Larry has NEVER said anything about fearing ANYBODY

Larry wasn't a tennis player.

Never heard em called the 76 Er's 😂😂😂
😂 yes! I caught that too.
That’s their name! It’s on their logo

You get one sentence quote from each player, and 100 from you. Let the players speak. Far more interesting than your monotonous voice.
People argue about many GOATS, but they forget there is only one LEGEND.

I'd say there are many legends and one GOAT but okay lol
Davd Robinson is one of my favorite players.
Lady Bird (Caitlin Clark)
LARRY JOE! #33 4EVA
Ive reached up to clean my laptop screen 12 times while watching this. You will too.
Change scared to respect.
Have never saw a youtube video of 8 pros that feared mj !!
I have, and more than 8 pro, hall of famers saying they feared MJ. However the video here is about Larry Legend, the one and only!!
Didn't know you were going to talk the whole time. 🙃

Larry Bird was a big 6'9" player. He was a tall dude

David Robinson said when he came into the league, Larry Bird was at his peak. I don't think so. Wasn't that 1990 or so?
?
Ah yes, to rough and tumble 80s and 90s. The current NBA is soft yet everyone back then was afraid of other players.
