    OD is helpful for 2 things..... getting the front end to climb out of binders and for pulling it's self up ledges and over break-overs because as the front end starts a climb up a shear lip, the rear end of the truck needs to drive forward yet, the front needs to go up. Therefore you have a variation in speed front to rear. Without OD you will simply cram the front tires into the wall untill the force is overcome . It will bind then POP up and out! The 2nd thing it's great for is sharp turn as it's like a semi DIG. Your dragging the ass end of your truckaround. Now, OD is not good for sidehilling, reversing or steady, steep climbs as your truck is constantly breaking traction. Hence why VP came up with a solution to this. They understand what OD is for where most people simply think they know. Sorta like suspension geometry, not many get it, a few do!!

      Thanks for the comment.
      I have found the benefits certainly outweight the negatives. I don't do a lot of reversing long distances or big hill climbs. Never noticed an issue on side-hilling either.
      I'm a fan!

    Yes that is very interesting about the over drive gear will have a look into this on my crawler thanks for that 👍👍

    I run those diff gears and an element trans with the team knk 25% gear in my element comp truck and love it.

    I run 30% overdrive on my comp rig with the tgh 2low and it works great. It’s not to the point of dragging the tires but just enough imo to make it too much for trailing. I think 20-25% for a trail/crawler is a good middle ground but I look forward to what you come up with since I will be building the 10iii Jeep Wrangler JL kit but I’m swapping the trans for the ax10 3 gear.

      Thanks for the input.
      You actually hit on one test I want to do: just how much overdrive is too much?

    • @Loomis_Fishin
      @Loomis_Fishin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoadsideRC I have 18% on my gen7 with v2 portals it’s the treal overdrive and honestly I think it could use a little more. It’s great for trailing but not the best for crawling. I think if I underdrive the rear I would be between the 20-25% and would be good for trailing and crawling. The 30% is good for light trailing basically to get to the next obstacle but does great for crawling it’s just enough overdrive to claw its way while still allowing the back to help push up. I had thought about going to about 35-40% just to see if it would pull better but I’m honestly happy with how it preforms now.

    the only thing i know from overdrive, they help in some situations, and they same time can harm the performance, why, because of the rotation, you need to slowly climb to increase the grip, but when your front tire rotation is more that harm the climb ability, as i say depend on the terrain

      Interesting! I have not found a place where I thought the overdrive caused a problem. I'll keep watching for it.

      @@RoadsideRC yes keep an eye out. There are many times OD can hurt. But a small amount like you show here is a good mid ground.

      Interesting. I typically don't go for the weighted wheels - don't like the stress on the driveline.

      Have you seen what I did instead? The highest amount of overdrive I have ever driven - it is crazy.

    I think you went too light on the overdrive, jump it to 25%. Also, that little bit of weight was never going to do anything. try a brass bumper mount, did wonders for my TRX4.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I 100% agree. Both the weight and overdrive need to be more dramatic to have an effect.

    Can you tell me if this truck has locking diffs like the trx4 sport? I’m going to get one of the 2 I’m trying to figure which one is better. Thanks

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Locking diffs are a gimmick. Just adds unnecessary weight and parts that can break.
      I suggest going with the TRX4 Sport

    To much overdrive isn't good for side Hilling and will help burn up that motor and esc

      What % do you think is too much?
