  • LOTS of front axle weight - check!
    STAGGERING amount of overdrive - check!
    A good crawler....hmm...not sure about that one. :)
    In this video, I take my Axial Base Camp and test to see just how much overdrive is too much.
    In a previous video, I already put overdrive front differential gears - which resulted in a nice 12% overdrive.
    Now, I throw the wildest set of portal overdrive gears at it that I can find.
    A 16/19 set from Treal: amzn.to/3pUVJ3k
    This combination resulted in a WILD amount of overdrive.
    The brass portal boxes from TOPCAD worked GREAT. I highly suggest them. Here is where you can get them: amzn.to/3e5OhQm
    Here is the club 5 extenders I used also: amzn.to/3e4TmrY
    If you are looking to improve the performance of your Base Camp, I would suggest you get these portal gears instead: amzn.to/3Az5ol6
    Here is the Gladiator video showing a better way of doing this: • Axial SCX10iii Upgrade...

    Those are very clever upgrades/ mods! That incredible you got 75% more rotation in the front than in the rear! Great video brother! Really love test area!😁✌🏻Have a great weekend brother!

    Now THAT is cool factor. I have been seeing some of these rigs with the higher Front overdrive and I must say they seem to work GREAT!!

      I am a fan of overdrive for sure, but this ended up being excessive. I think I will keep mine to the 30-40% from now on.

    Great video! Thanks for making the mistakes for us! The weight add I’ll do to my Base Camp, overdrive… nope… until you get it dialed in. Cheers bro!

      Happy to help!
      Overdrive is great - you just need to stay in the 15-30% range....not 75%!

    Awesome! I am actually trying to figure out what i can do to get some overdrive in my vanquish portal axles. This was a huge difference!

    Good stuff Troy! It was comical to see the front drag the rear around. It seems to just skid the rear tires down everything. It seems to perform like a “dig” function turning with that much overdrive.

      It basically is! You are right.

    I added a total of 1 pound additional to mine, mainly front biased, and it's still not enough I've been thinking about getting these heavy brass rims that weight a pound each rim/tire combo, so additional 4lbs on top of my 1, should be plenty

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm curious why you think it needs soo much weight?

  • @marcconnor4837
    @marcconnor4837 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have 27% in the front it does pretty good I’m thinking of switching them out for the 60%. And if they are to much I’m thinking of taking the 27% and putting them in the back. And that should give me 33% overdrive in the front

  • @jdtII
    @jdtII ปีที่แล้ว

    What if you take the overdrive out of the axle and leave it in the portals how much of a difference would that be

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd have to go back and look at the previous gear install video. Diff-only was around 12-15% if I remember correctly, so it would take that much back out of it.
      I have a milder set of portal overdrive gears I will use instead.

    Geez the start up on that thing is terrible! Lol. I heard you mention that ISDT esc. Is that what is causing that? I got one in the electronics box to try out. I may never try it out now though lol

    I honestly can't run anymore than 20% on any of my trail trucks. It's a real disadvantage while on those slick side hills.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't really found my threshold. My ECTO runs around 37% overdrive, and I still love it. My Gladiator is also roughly in that range, and it appears to do well.
      Seems like anything under 12% just isn't doing enough.
      I bet your 20% is a good balance for most folks.

    Looks like too much over drive to me. The rear basically did nothing to help in al most all of the obstacles. It really looked like the weight did way more. I'd go back to the 12.5% if it were me.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right!
      I won't go all the way back to 12% - I have other trucks in the 30% range and really like overdrive around that amount.
