    I've been wearing this watch for several months, pretty much as my daily, and have been measuring its accuracy since January. Over two months, it has averaged -1.62 seconds per day, so I can't complain.

  • @ajiebkp
    @ajiebkp ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Fully agreed! My SPB147 ran at +15 spd out of the box and now 2 years later it’s running at +3-4 MINUTES per day. Quite unacceptable for the price point. Meanwhile the Powermatic80 on my Tissot Gentleman has been running with the accuracy of 0-5 spd for the past couple of years!

    I love many of Seiko's designs and dials, but they have two enduring issues that prevent me from buying one. First - very hit-or-miss QC and marker misalignments. Second - so many of their movements are just not accurate enough for me, especially in the higher-priced models, when competitors hit it out of the park.

  • @dnenovski
    @dnenovski ปีที่แล้ว +13

    It's worth noting that this model, as well as the others from Save the ocean lineup have Seiko's super hard coating, which has double to triple the hardness of normal 316 stainless steel. Also, the movement seems to be pretty accurate after regulation (mine has about 5 sec variation), shame that Seiko doesn't do a better job at regulating them at the factory.

    • @ryangochuico
      @ryangochuico ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I dont think they even try to regulate them at all 😅
      I have 19 seiko watches ranging from 7s26 to 6r35 movements and (while within stated tolerances) the timekeeping is all over the place. 😆

      It is also ashame that the 4R can do the same if regulated, aside from the 70hrs power reserve on the 6R.

    Not a flaw to me. It's a feature and normal of this lineup, and 6R35. Seiko diver design is top class anyway. And that will not disappoint, not even by this particular movement. Enjoy the watch, enjoy the design. Live life, and stop hunting the seconds :-) This is what I learnt from my watch community.

  • @gg.komorebi
    @gg.komorebi ปีที่แล้ว +18

    The accuracy specified by Seiko is in the static range when the watch is not worn. I myself have several watches with this movement and cannot confirm these rates. My SPB317 runs at +9 seconds/24 hours on average and my SPB203 runs at +3 seconds/24 hours. It's not the accuracy on paper that matters, but the accuracy on the wrist.

    Nice looking Seiko. You’d think Seiko could make a mechanical movement that’s a little more accurate. Come on, Seiko! You’ve got the money to R&D a better movement.
    Anyway, today I’m wearing my Tudor BB Chrono panda dial. Love it!

    Fatal flaw? So the movement specs. are a bit loose for a relatively expensive Seiko. That's hardly fatal. It looks good and has a reasonable size.

    Although I really love the design and feel of Seiko watches, I have to confirm that the accuracy of the Seiko Diver is about 15 seconds per day (ahead). For daily use, this is far below my expectations and I have exchanged the Seiko for a Mido Multifort Chronometer.👍 The only drawback of this watch is the lack of luminous material on the hands and numerals.🤷‍♂

    I have the Seiko SPB089 blue Alpinist on today on Strapcode Super-O bracelet. I love the reviewed model (and the SPB14x line in general), but the movements in lower end to mid-range Seiko leave a lot to be desired in the accuracy department, typically. You'll get a lot better accuracy out of Hamilton, Longines, Mido, etc. in the same price range. My Hamilton "Cooper" gained 61 seconds TOTAL in the first 2 months of ownership. A friend has had his for several years and it runs -2/s per day. The 4R in my King Turtle runs -20/s per day. I've heard the 6R35 can be really hit or miss, but the 6R15 in my Alpinist is running around +3s/day after 3-1/2 years. I can't complain about that at all.

    I have this watch and it’s running 1.5-2 seconds slow per day, which is a relief as the rated accuracy was so bad; but I’ve found this with multiple Seiko’s over the years-they’re usually much more accurate than the stated specs (P.S. I could listen to your accent all day…!)

    You stated the tolerance of the movement but didn’t actually say what it was running. Not really fair to compare it to the tissot when you don’t even know what the watch is running. You also called the lume super luminova but it is Seikos own Lumi-bright lume. You didn’t talk about the hardness coating the watch has either. I like your videos but maybe do a little research on the watches my friend.

    Yep, my SPB143 with the same 6R35 movement has terrible accuracy. It gets +15s/day if I'm lucky. If not, which is more often the case, it's anywhere from 1.5 _minutes_ off in either direction after 24 hours. God, they absolutely got everything else right, though. It's so frustrating...

    Strange, I'm wearing my one dive watch today, the Citizen Aqualand Promaster Marine! Its accurate being quartz, though I don't think Citizen are doing anything in regards to ocean charity with this range (I could be wrong). Back to the Seiko, good review, and I'm surprised with the lack of accuracy of the movement for the price. A little disappointing. Still a nice watch though.

  • @entroheat
    @entroheat ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Man we know that flaw and it can be regulated easily by a good watchmaker and also most of the time it's an underestimation from Seiko and in actual life the movement is more accurate than the spec specifies.

  • @angleofthehell
    @angleofthehell ปีที่แล้ว

    I owned the initial model of that series (SPB143). Its a nice looking watch but the movement accuracy was bad, my model had a beat error of 1.5ms which is even bad for an unserviced vintage watch. The movement can be accurate, i ajusted it to +1sec/d.
    Just sad how less effort they put in regulating their movements.

  • @gentelmenschannel5028

    Well Seiko always under values there watch or movements then how accurate they are. Having saying that I heard this movement on particular 6R35 have accuracy issue down the line let’s say 6months -2 years of use . It goes fast 2 minutes a day.

    @mathewazzopard8100 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 6r35 might show poor accuracy when new, and if course since Seiko can't be bothered to regulate many of their watches. One would expect a little bit more at that price range.....back to the accuracy issue. When new, give it 20 turns manually and wear it. Let it charge 100% while wearing it (Seiko are easy to charge at their max when wearing it) and then take it off, let it wear out. Then give it 70 turns (1 turn for each hour of power reserve) and repeat the same process 3 times. This way the mainspring will take it's final form. After the 3rd time the watch should run at around +5 @ 24h.

    I got the SPB147 and I still feel ripped off. I hate the prices of these watches as the truth is - the movement on these watches are such garbage. For the price of these watches it's just unacceptable. By the way the Tissot PRX power magic 80 your talking about modification don’t to the actual ETA movement with some plastic parts in it to reach the efficiency and get that kind of accuracy. . So down the line of let’s say 4 years when you need to maintain the watch you actually need to throw out the movement and put a new movement on . I think that’s a absolute junker for me I want to wear a watch that I know would last even what’s under the hood and I can pass down the generations. This is not watch making this is garbage shoving down by Swatch as this is Swatch DNA make one time fun pieces and throw it out and you can see the out come of the in the Quartz Omega swatch watch. The more over swatch watches and now the Tissot PRX power magic 80.
