  • I apologize for the sound, I got a new mic and audio system and it didn't record it well!
Every time Don Knotts tried to shoot this scene, he said he couldn't do it because he'd break up every time Floyd the barber said this line!

Then when it's Barney's solo the old guy behind the curtain sings with a beautiful deep baritone voice. Barney s face when he thinks it's himself singing🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This show blows away anything on TV now days! We West Virginians are so proud Don Knots was from our State, I called on a family owned store years ago near zMorgantown where Don would occasionally stop when he was in town, the owner told me Don was Don, shy bashful and was a little embarrassed by his success, but he never forgot where he was from and that he was always a country boy.

Once when l visited my grandmother in Goldsboro, North Carolina, she so calmly mentioned that she remembered when Andy was a school teacher in Goldsboro. She said it so by-the-wayish that l could hardly believe her. Turns out she was right. I was wondering why she never mentioned it before.

I started googling character actors and found most had a fantastic background in film and theatre! Then I noticed how you can almost guess who the writers of an episode were and also the director. Richard Crenna directed 4 and Bob Sweeney, that funny, quirky character who had several roles on The Rifleman, would usually be the director of the funniest episodes of the Andy Griffith Show, like pretty much all the ones about Otis! Some trivia: The Andy Griffith show has roots in No Time for Sergeants, a short comic novel about a good ole' country boy drafted into the army. It was made into live teleplay, then a successful Broadway play, and then a movie. (1958). Griffith originated the lead role and starred in all three. The TV show followed 2 years later, with Don Knotts in a very different sidekick role. If you liked the TV show you will love the movie
The TV show introduced a number of fine actors to a wider audience, and did the same for folksy country music. The excellent bluegrass band, the Dillards, appeared several times.
The town of Mayberry is based on Mt. Airy, N.C. where Andy was born (as were my grandfather and his five brothers). The town celebrates the connection with an annual Mayberry days.

Impressed by high school student David's (Tobey Maguire) devotion to a 1950s family TV show, a mysterious television repairman (Don Knotts) provides him with a means to escape into the black-and-white program with his sister, Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon). While David initially takes to the simplistic, corny world of the show, Jennifer sets about jolting the characters with doses of reality that unexpectedly bring a little color into their drab existence.

i love you tony boy...your true devotion is astounding
your inordinately OCD based attention to this extremely minor
event in all the hours that this show comprised
is to say the most "admirable"
    i respect you sir.

In one episode someone is talking about his constant struggle to control his weight since he gains weight and then has to lose it. Barney says something like: "Yea, I have the same problem with my weight - - 146, 146 and a quarter - - I'm all over the place." Still makes me smile.

There is no way I could be an actor alongside Don Knotts. I would never be able to keep a straight face. This video clip in this attached link makes tears roll down my face and makes it hard for me to breathe. I've seen it dozens of times and it always makes me cry with laughter. Don't watch this link if you have a heart condition....Barney Fife The Preamble To The Constitution - TH-cam

@@andrealatham1284 Was this your first time seeing it? To me there is nothing funnier than good, clean humor. Actors say humor is difficult unless you use profanity and insults....Don Knotts doesn't need those crutches. He is just flat-out hilarious. I'm glad you liked this, Andrea.

When Barney was doing his "Nip it" or "Old iron door" routines, Andy would be both Andy G. and Andy T. His smile was both the character and the performer. He was virtually looking through the 4th wall to us as we smiled too.

My step-mother was born a Hanlin and was born in Maplewood,W.Virginia near Morgantown, W.Virginia. She was born 1924 and passed away in 2004. I was doing some ancestry/family research and was surprised that my step-mother was actually a second cousin of Don Knotts through her father's brother. (Dont ask me the name, I literally got myself lost in tracing the names) What I do remember is that some of the Hanlin family are buried with the Knotts family.
I know my step-mother never knew this because if she did she would have said something about it. To me this was a fantasic find and wished I had met Don.

If you like this, watch Dr Strangelove, near the end as the um, consultant has his heil speech, watch the ambassadors' face and all thru the angle cuts the extras, it was all they could do to get through it. Or Young Frankenstien, the what knockers scene, GW was in tears at Eyegor. Find the episode with Barbara Eden, she owned them all, one of the best of the best episodes of the sixties.

Andy & Don were in the Broadway play, and then, the movie, No Time For Sargeants, before The Andy Griffith Show. Don almost didn't get the role. He auditioned & left the office. The secretary thought he was great & was discussing it with the director(or who ever decides) & he was swayed to hire him. They wanted Don to come back but missed him. So the secretary leaned out the window & yelled down just as Don took one step down to get on the subway. He heard her yell his name! He came back for another reading/audition & got the part! I read that in the book, God Winks. It's about coincidences or, God Winks, as the book calls them. Excellent read, btw, written by Squire D. Rushnell, who wrote School House Rocks, we all watched as kids. If you want to be surprised in every chapter, you must read this book!
