Some info from my experience with 18x9.5 +35. With a 265/35 tire, it may or may not rub at a stock ride height depending on tire choice. Some tires, such as pilot sports, tend to be wider with thicker sidewalls. These will rub on the sidewall over bumps with passengers, or over large bumps without. I currently run this spec with PS AS4 tires and had to roll the front and trim the rear for clearance. I plan to eventually lower the car on swift springs and will be monitoring carefully for any rubbing when I do.
Great video, Ive been looking for a perfect fitment for my type r with stock suspension and im glad ive found your video. Have you had any rub issues with passengers? Thank you
I plan on buying a type R and currently have a 2015 wrx with some 18x9.5 +38 avid wheels that I love and brand new 255/35 continental extreme contacts. Unfortunately they are bolt pattern 5x114 so I would have to run a 5x120 adapter. Would these fit a stock Type R keeping in mind the adapter also adding some buldge.
I can’t answer this since I don’t know that offset will the adapter take it to. Already +35 is aggressive offset. Most likely will rub depending on the tire compound (255/35).
I’m on 255/40/18 with 9.5+45. Lowered an inch all around. I had 265/35 but had horrible mpg and the Speedo was of. With 255/40 Speedo is correct and way better mpg and also more comfortable but I do rub in the rear. Currently doing research on where and how to trim but I can’t find any thing good. I only rub in one spot and I don’t want to trim because I’m scared it’ll cut my tire and I also don’t want to trim the whole fender because that’s where the wide body flare hangs on to.

Hi thanks for the information, I am kind of confused your set up is 255/40 on a 9.5 wheel and the tire looks flat on side, I though a 255 on 9.5 will be stretched because a 9.5 wheel is actually 10.5 thickness?
this video its very informative and i came to the conclusion that i would like a 265x40x18 on a 18x9.5 offset 45 on stock height. i am not sure if it will rub? thank you for your help
I’m looking at purchasing a set of wheels and I wanted to know what setup would work best. I’m looking for the wheel to be flushed with the fender not allowing the wheel to rub. I do not plan on lowering that car neither, what do you think? 18x9.5 255/40? Or should I do 19x9.5 since Im not looking to lower the vehicle?
I went with 18s since they are lighter. You can also run 19s if you prefer the look. I know that for 19s fitment 19x9.5 et44 with 265/35 is a safe fitment that is flush and wont rub. I would do a bit more research with 19 fitment if trying to be more aggressive than et43-45. Also i would not run 255/40 on 19s, would only do it on 18s. Also, 18s are cheaper if that is a factor.
Do you have to put spacers for after maker wheels on FK8 ? Or is that jsut an extra an accessory? For example I stock rims but let’s say I want to put on the same exact rims & wheels you have do I have to put a spacer?
Has anyone noticed the steering is less responsive when switching to the 18x9.5? I got the enkei ts5 with 255-40 toyo proxes sport all season. The ride is much smoother than the OEM wheels but I still like the way my car handled more before I swapped.
It’s because of the increase in side wall in an all season tire. I got 255/40 but went with extreme performace summer tires (RT660) which have very stiff sidewalls. Thus, handling the same and better than OEM.
I’m doing 255/40/r19. I do have coil overs installed but they are matched to OEM height. I guess I’ll have to figure out “how low can I go”. 😂 I’ll post my finding here and also on CivicX since I haven’t been able to find the info there.
Tomorrow I'm getting some TE37 Saga SL's, 18,9.5 +38, if I go 255/40, do you think that will affect my handling or torque steer? This video was super helpful by the way, thanks man!
There is a bit more torque steer, which is given with the lower offset wheel. Its seems to be more pronounced when at very low speed and accelerating hard out of a corner. If you are already carrying speed into the corner, there is no big torque steer at exit. As for handling it will depend on tire. Extreme performance summer tires have stiff sidewalls so turn in may even be better than stock contis (i have RT660 and they have better turn in). I know for max performance the pilot sport 4S are great and you wont have a problem. I don’t even think the stock contis gripped that well so the above-mentioned tires will grip much better.
Want to keep stock suspension on the car and was looking at a 18X9.5 35mm rim. If I run the 265/35 tires with it, will this work? Cant seem to find anyone who has changed from 38mm to 35mm not sure if the difference will still work
So i am not sure about 18x9.5 35mm. It will fit… but some people say it rubs and other say it does not rubs (on stock suspension). Look at some side profile pictures as well since I have noticed that the rim pokes out a bit and some people do not like that. You can check on Civic X forums.
You will feel the car more sluggish around corners. Bigger sidewalls cause less steering response into corners. Thats why the original type R tire is a 30 of sidewall. The way to counteract this is by having a stiffer sidewall: Ultra high performance tires (AS4) < Max performance tires < Extreme performance tires.
You think it will rub if I got some Konig neoform wheels of 18X9.5 but with an OFFSET of 35 but the car being kept at stock height? because I don’t want to lower my typer too.
Great video. Thanks for the info. Question I’m thinking of getting 19x8.5 with +35 off set. Simply cause I want my wheels to be flush with fenders, but in your video you said they kinda sink in? Some people told me that’s the size I need for flush and that the 9.5 will pole out a little. So I’m your opinion which will actually give me the closes look to a perfect flush? 8.5 or 9.5? Thanks for your help.

Anyways for sure I’m running 255/40 stock Hight. My question is that I don’t see much info about running Michelin pilot sport 4s on that size. Anyone has an opinion about it?
You can, but the higher treadwear has more flexible sidewalls sacrificing turn in feel and some handling in the curves. 200s have stiffer sidewalls for that.
They weight almost 30 pound each. Tire sidewall makes the ride feel the car is going to break whenever you hit a bump (plus the wheels crack easily since they are cast). Also the sport contact 6 are not the best tires. The offsef is waaayyy to conservative and make the fitment sunken in. So the best first mod is getting lighter better looking wheels with better tires.
@@Chappers.Gaming most people go with 18 since they are cheaper and have more weight reduction benefits (depending on the wheel). You can go 19s as well.
