This is a Motormouth couple car review of the new 2022 Kia Carnival van. Kia has used a lot of styling cues from SUV and integrated them into this 7 or 8-passenger people mover. The large grill and chunky proportions blurs the lines between a minivan and mid-size SUV. In fact, Kia calls this an MPV. Powering this new 2022 Kia Carnival is a new 3.5L V6 engine with an 8 speed automatic transmission, 290 horsepower and 262 lb=ft of torque. It comes with FWD. This new minivan has a longer wheelbase than outgoing Sedona and this is a bit wider, but length is the same. Some standard features include, 8-passenger seating, 7-passenger in the US, LED positioning lights, silver painted grille, black grille insert, temporary spare tire, 17” wheels, 19” wheels are available on the top three trims. It comes standard with plenty of active safety features like, lane keep assist, lane follow assist, driver attention warning, forward collision warning, rear parking sensors, rear occupant alert and 7 airbags. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are standard on the middle EX trim in Canada. But, are standard on the base model in the US. As for fuel economy, the Carnival FWD gets 12L/100km city and 8.9L/100km highway. That’s 19 MPG city and 26 MPG highway. Competition to the Carnival includes, the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Sienna Hybrid and the Pacifica Hybrid.

I think they should make a Carnival "X LIne" and give it AWD and a couple more inches of ground clearance. This might outsell the Telluride!

I’m in a total agreement with Zack about the engine in the new Sienna. I test drove the new Sienna and the lack of power when merging into the highway was a deal breaker for me. I finally convinced my wife to go test drive a minivan and the Toyota’s engine choice was no help me trying to convince my wife that a minivan should be our next vehicle. Thanks Toyota for making my goal even harder.

People nowadays prefer vehicles that can save them fuel like the Toyota Sienna which comes in hybrid across all trims. It is now the best selling minivan in the US. It only shows that people have come to realize that fuel economy matters more plus Toyota's proven reliability.😘

I was excited for this review. I was never a hater of minivans (I owned a Windstar and I rent Caravans). As my Mother always told me... ‘its on the inside that counts’. So if I were looking for one with a smooth ride for distance or volume, ... easy decision. Besides, every Golfer (Hockey/Soccer parent) sincerely appreciates that ‘one Guy’ who has one... and is willing to be the designated driver. Or needs his 60” Plasma TV moved. Thanks for another review guys. It was a good one.

Growing up my parents had a 1990 Chevrolet Astro, then 2007 Pontiac Montana SV6, my grandparents had a 1994 Chevrolet Lumina APV LS, then Chevrolet Uplander, I inherited the Uplander, sold it as I didn’t like it, but still had my grandmas to haul around so bought a 2006 Ford Freestar, recently sold it as my Grandma bought a 2020 Dodge GrandCaravan for me to drive her around in. I don’t have a spouse or children but these minivans are just so practical and handy! I really cannot complain about driving one.

I love the open space.Glad the Carnival has the ability to remove the middle seats. The Toyota Hybrid no longer has that option, so no Toyota for me, because of that and the lack of power in the hybrid 4 cylinder.

Got a 2024 SX Prestige. Trick was getting it for MSRE. Typical Markups were $5-6K for the SX Prestige. I ordered it from a Kia Dealer on the wrong side of town who was hungry. Took 10 weeks from S. Korea. Aririved as 2024. Love it.. absolutely perfect. Never a Rattle or Squeel.. amazing smooth handling. Love the engine. It's a dual injection which eliminates concern for intake valve carbon buildup with Direct Injection. I use 93 Octane, and it's smooth as glass, Plus get another 3-4 MPG w/93. Truly the best minivan. I didn't want the complication of a turbo or Hybrid. The bare 3.5 has amazing power. The "InfoTainment" system is superb! Power Leather full recliners in the 2nd row. Take a nap at Rest Stops! 2nd Row windows and both sun roofs open up. It's practically a convertible. The driver's aids are the best I've seen. Full Lane assist, and adaptive Cruise control really is great in stop and go traffic. You can't go wrong. Toyota and Honda have some work to do!!

I myself from Canada has ordered the top most SX trim with reclining seats and waiting for the delivery. I really wish Kia kept the door handles like a normal SUV. As it has power doors, no need to place the handles like a mini van. It should've been a great SUV look without adjacent handles..Kia pls do it so in the future, also please find a way to hide those tracks. It's easily doable, weld a small long thin piece of metal over the moving part, when the door opens, the part pops up and out with the internal lever. When the door closes, it will close and hide the gap..

100% agree the V6 makes better sense in heavy vehicles like vans unless it's turbocharged or diesel.. in hilly and mountainous driving the hybrids like the sienna either runs out if stream as the battery depletes going up or engine braking is reduced as the battery state of charge changes when going down hill, very inconvenient..

  • @A3A4Tom
    @A3A4Tom 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Minivan is the most comfortable to sit 7 persons comfortably, its also the most spacious of all segments. If its not because of its image, minivan should sold lots better than what they deserved. You guys are spot on. Toyota has missed the marks when going from a smooth V6 to a buzzy inline 4 hybrid. Honda has a class action with Odyssey (Also Pilot/Passport)'s HondaLink infotainment in the US. Pacifica and Grand Caravan's FCA reliability remains iffy. This should be a great time for Kia to have another home run with Carnival.

  • @austenrichardgeorge842

Kia vehicles are cheaper in Canada because you get HALF the warranty. In the US you get a 10 year 100,000 mile (160,000km) warranty. In Canada, you get 5 years 100,000 KM warranty on the powertrain. So they get double the years and 60,000km more warranty. With Kia engine troubles and mass recalls that warranty exists to help Americans feel more confident in buying Kia.

Hard too look past that MPG's of this compared to the Sienna if you're keeping this for 150-200k's. Also, as Zach would say, the Bank of Toyota is still the Bank of Toyota. I’m too much of a Toyota fan and hybrid owner myself. The Sienna is approaching 50% better fuel economy. What you can save on fuel over a year or two can add up to a lot of money for a young family to use somewhere else (trips, activities for kids, etc) other than at the pumps. For everyday driving the Sienna is the winner for me!

I think it’s funny that they don’t want to call it a minivan, but they put absolutely no effort in trying to hide one of the most obvious minivan traits (the door tracks) which the other manufacturers have been doing for many years, especially Chrysler and Toyota.

Great review! The name Carnival is terrible though…and Zack, not sure if you’ve been stuck in a winter storm in Alberta before. I wouldn’t give up AWD for just FWD (with an open diff I’m guessing) with winter tires. I’d rather give up the van space to get that extra traction.

City or country driving? I live in the country, and driving my son to hockey to places that are anywhere from 2-5 hours away for a game or tournament, we’ve encountered some bad storms. I had FWD for years (including a Honda Odyssey) as well, and just driving in city didn’t encounter too many issues. The problem now is there are so many capable AWD SUVs to choose from with great space, and around the same price, I wouldn’t get a minivan again (I acknowledge that the sliding doors, and enormous space of a minivan is a trade-off). I should say, I drive a truck now, and I’ve got stuck in my own driveway as well - there’s days a FWD wouldn’t come close to making it up to my house ;-)

Only in EX and lower trims. SX and above get non-removable, but those are lounge chairs.

Most likely cause it violates some safety standard by having the 4th row be pressed up against the far rear of the car. With that row up, there's literally no trunk too, so I think that would be a hard sell here.
