Only gripe is that around town that 6 speed transmission sometime can't figure out what gear it wants to be in. but otherwise great truck.
I'm a highschool senior and finally saved up for my first truck. Wound up with a 2001 silverado 1500 with the 5.3 vortec. It has 250,000 miles and is still running strong! My coworker has an 02 with 305,000 and my buddy has an 03 2500 hd with the 6.0 vortec with 406,000 miles on it! Least to say I'm very excited to make this thing last!
That’s true. But not true. Some motors really sucked. The 5.4 for sucked. The 6.0 for diesel sucked. I could go on. But if you’re OCD about maintenance then there’s a possibility of making it so far.
YES change that oil, if you don't put the miles on it per year. Then switch to Yearly service. I realize this is a Chevy high mileage Video. Pro and con. I have always owned Ford's. But the new GMC & Dodge with the Cummins Diesel, are really worth looking at. My 2000 F-250 ( V-10) has 64600 miles on it. Just like the guy said with the black one they will STEAL your vehicle. My Cat. Converter was taken off in 40 second in front of my home. The theft people have guns, they don't care if your home.
The factory transmission on that last one went out after 412,000 miles? That's impressive. No matter how reliable your vehicle is, I'd say you're on borrowed time for major issues cropping up after 300k. Everything wears out eventually. So for that truck to make it past 400k before needing a new transmission... That's really something.
Yep my fuel pump went out right in front of the insurance place luckily I personally know some mechanics and they changed the fuel pump out on the spot
I’ve never had issues with the transmission on those trucks. Fuel pumps, yes, and those 5.3s always start ticking in the valves around 150k miles. They will go 200k but they will make a bunch of nasty noise. The only transmission I saw have issues was at 300k miles and it didn’t fully fail until 400k. Just slipped a little before that.
@@Ds9Defiant1701B total bullshit. The only difference between a 5.3 and 4.8 is stroke. That does not make it any stronger. A stock 327 sbc is no stronger than a 350.
Ds9Defiant1701 they are actually the same engine block it is the crank, heads, cams, and rest of the internals that are different... they are also basically unchanged from the old castings from the old 350 blocks besides some updates for emissions and efi...
I love my truck (2000 with a 5.3 308,000 mi) very little rust for the mileage/age, doesn't burn oil, runs strong and clean motor. It belonged to my grandfather before me and he always used synthetic so I have too
I worked as a auto tech for several years. From my experience the longest lasting trucks are Chevys like these and Fords with the modular V8s( 4.6 and 5.4). I've heard about Toyotas with 1 million miles but i've not seen that many with over 200-300K. However i have seen Chevys and Fords with 500+, i even saw a Chevy Suburban with over 800K.
@@TheNewenglandboys Calm down, no need to get excited. Some of the modular engines were no good sure. Some of them had a lot of problems sure. But overall look at the 4.6 in the crown vic, those things run forever. I'm a Chevy guy, but i also like Fords and generally speaking they're pretty good cars with only a few exceptions like the early ecoboost engines. Now Chrysler on the other hand, those are garbage with no exceptions. Well maybe the Cummins diesel engines but those aren't made by Chrysler.

rodger sterling yup traded a lbz for a 17 pretty disappointing for sure, I’ve been to the dealer Quite a few time , 3 new sensors and loose front end , and I only have about 40000 miles lame Chevy .

I towed the same weight (Pontiac Bonneville + car hauler) from Detroit to Lamar County Ga.( about a hour southwest of Atlanta) with my 02 Suburban Z71 at the time she had 300k on the Odometer now I'm at 310k.
I’ve owned five GM trucks in my life and not one has ever left me down. A 2006 Canyon, a 1995 Silverado, a 2008 Sierra 1500, a 2012 2500 Duramax and a 2019 Suburban
My Dad's 1995 Chevy S10 5 speed manual that I learned how to drive on left him in the dust numerous occasions, started around 60k with a coolant leak, and then at 120k it decided to call it quits, he was very meticulous with his vehicle and it's maintenance. I guess some people have better luck with their vehicles. 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve only ever owned one that was passed down to me from my grandad. It’s an ‘03 single cab LB Silverado, 4.8L V8 with 358,300+ on it and the only real problem I’ve ever had was a simple oil leak that I fixed.
I own a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71. Bought it brand new off the lot. The only problem I’ve had was the oil pump crapped out at 150K miles. That’s it! The only mods I’ve done was I leveled it, aftermarket headlights and taillights. I just added a MAGNAFLOW exhaust yesterday. Love’r more than my wife!

The truck has never failed me. No weird noises. The only issues were interior. I'm sure it has a long life left in it easily.
You just can’t watch a video of Andre without noticing how much he enjoys his work. Enjoyed the recent GMC Sierra work truck review as well. Thank you Andre!
Bought an 07 Sierra Z71 brand new and sold it with 260,000 miles on it with absolutely zero issues ever outside of general consumables like batteries, brakes and headlight bulbs. Never even needed and alternator. Mine even had AFM and I never had an issue. Loved that truck and wish I would have kept it and just put a new engine in it when it was time.
tony montana normally 19.5 but it can do 24 easy. Best I ever got was 27.1 over 30 mile run. But so much fun to drive and make some sports cars mad with a 0-60 in the mid 5s stock.

That '02 Burban was shockingly clean, testament to the GM wax coating. The NYer didn't mention the optional rear air. I'm jealous! My code to used vehicle purchase; 'buy below the Mason-Dixon Line'. Now it will include, 'go west old man'!
I had a 90, 95, 05 and still have my 2011 truck and 2015 suburban. Other than a failed fuel pump on the 1990 at 125K, i've had zero issues. Needs have changed and I'll be trading in the suburban for a new 3500 in the next 6-9 months. Enjoyed the videos folks. Keep em rollin!
I love my Silverado. I have an 02 Ext Cab Long Bed Z71 4x4. It has 348k on the original motor, trans and rear end. I just put an oil pump while I was doing the rear main seal. It was a $1700 job. The truck is purring like a kitten and probably good till 500k. My mechanic was expecting to have to clean out the oil pan because he said the last one he did it was caked with gunk. He said mine was spotless. It's a Florida truck, so no rust except for one little spot on the driver side rocker panel. It's about 1x3 inches. The frame barely even has any surface rust. Paint is good and interior is good as well.

Great great great segment!!! I’d almost take a life to own that HD GMC, very sharp truck. The old boy from Kentucky reminded me so much of family in the Pikeville/ Hazzard area, awesome folks, the guy from Chicago going to spend 50k to swap everything over to a donor, think I’d reconsider that, no matter how much you love it, that’s a ton of money, but you put 3 grand in brake lines, I’m just too poor, end up doing that stuff myself. All great Truck people!!! Wake up thinking about what we’ll watch today, never disappointed 👍
At my previous place of employment, I drove a 2007 Chevy 2500 6.0 Vortec. That truck ran like a dream and had no major issues after 293,000 miles (body rust which is to be expected for a work truck). It was used and abused by 3-4 different drivers and driven all over the states of Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, and Illinois. Would love to calculate how much money the company made off that truck. Sad to give it up when I left, really wanted to hit 300,000 in it. Never had that kind of attachment to a vehicle before.
my 2003 Silverado Z71 had 20k on it when i bought it. Over a 6 year period i put 270k miles on it. Only thing i ever did for it was brakes, tires and fluid changes(oh and a couple wheel bearings lol). Sold it to a buddy of mine that wanted it. At 305k miles he finally had to put a waterpump in it... Best truck i've ever owned.
This is why Fords sell more. Ford owners have to trade in their old Ford to buy a new one because they fall apart and GM owners just keep driving their vehicles forever. I have a 92 suburban k1500 with 280k, a 97 Seville with 210k, and just acquired a 94 suburban k2500 with 205k. Most vehicles will last if you take care of them. Some times they have design flaws, like the Cadillac Northstar engine. I put head studs in my Seville at about 120k and it's been great ever since.
npsit1 LOL those are cute vehicles when any one of them ever gets close to 500,000 miles please email me and take a picture I won’t leave my email because it will never happen... from a 93 ram owner with a 5.9 gasser at 520,000 miles...
Slippschitts Hey I drive my trucks as long as I can, I catch shit sometimes from people like you “just buy a new one” meanwhile that 600$ truck payment gets invested every month and I’ll be retired by 45 years old with plenty of money to burn and you’ll be stuck in your shitty apartment with a new truck out front
Theres a lot of chevy fan boys in this comments section and i do have to clarify something, pretty much ANY truck will be solid and reliable if you take good care of it.
Besides the injector replacement, just a fantastic engine and platform.. Had a 02 till 09 then traded on a new durumax witch also has been a great truck! just rolled 300k on the lmm

My Aunt had a 2003 Trailblazer with 90k when she bought it when it finally bit the dust. It had 425k miles on it with the original engine and transmission. Team Chevrolet all the way!
Peter Collins LOL gosh wow my 93 ram only has 520,000 miles on the 5.9 gasket never touched engine and the frame is as good as it was when it came out of the factory, there is a difference you will never know....
I just picked up an 05 Sierra 2500hd 6.0 4x4 Crew cab SLT with only 75k miles. The dealer replaced everything suspension wise on the front end, hoses, belts water pump, hydroboost. Saw the whole $6k workup before I bought it. PPI was jealous. I did spend probably two much at $26k on it, but I had a 2022 Silverado on order at $65k and I was nervous. My 05 is an awesome time capsule and I feel so much more comfortable long with this purchase.
For reliability I suggest talking to independent mechanics that work on all brands. They can tell you what they work on most and they see how things are made and the quality of materials the trucks or cars are made of. Actual owners can be so bias on a certain brand they own.
The worst thing a person can do is let other people drive your truck , sometimes it is unavoidable when it’s a work truck on a farm. I have 3 Chevy trucks I like all three of them . A 1999 2500 Excab 6.0 gas 4x4 214,000 miles; 2001 2500HD Duramax lb7 Excab 4x4 98,000 miles ; 2004 3500 8.1 gas crewcab 4x4 264,000 miles. 5/5/23
Yep. My co-worker came home and found a huge dent in his car. His GF went to back it out of the driveway and hit the garbage dumpster and hoped he wouldn't notice.
My Son and I recently purchased a 2006 GMC Sierra HD (vortec Max).. We are driving it next month across the USA so he can have a vehicle for college this fall. We spent the last few weeks fixing all the common GM issues and looking forward to the trip. These video's and comments have been helpful.
We have a 02 8.1L 2500hd has 296000 miles on it still runs great all we’ve done is replace the transfer case for the 4 wheel drive and maintenance like oil changes and now we have to replace the front Suspension and pretty much all those miles it’s had heavy machinery behind it and a 14000 pound livestock trailer behind it still runs great if you take care of them they will last
When I was younger the dealership I work for had a 454 in a Suburban believe it or not. I think it might have been a 92 maybe. It was only rear-wheel drive it wasn't four-wheel drive. But it pulled a race trailer that was pretty much at the weight that the Suburban was built to handle and that's pretty much the only thing that ever did was pull that race trailer and the team members. The owner ended up selling it to a farmer when it had a ridiculous amount of mileage on it. I remember him putting it out for sale and thinking Who the hell's going to buy a truck with 400,000 plus miles on it that worked like a beaten mule its whole life. A farmer scarfed it up in a week and the damn things probably still going.
Ram, ford and chevy. It doesn't matter, all the drivers seats rip over time. You can prevent it. But if you just slide out door everytime like any car, it's gonna tear.
I tell you what I have a 2003 Chevy Astro van with a 4.3 L V6 and the l60e transmission and it has 241,000 Mi and has not failed me yet I have done regular maintenance and change the suspension parts but I would not have any other vehicle at this moment now this is a van but it is considered a truck because it's on a frame it's based off of the Chevy S10
My 1997 Chevy Cheyenne 1500 single cab has 282,000 miles on it. It has the 4.3 v6 and 4L60E trans has palm size rust on bottom driver rocker and bubbling on the bottom of passenger door very small rust spots.
2006 Silverado with original everything (V8 + manual transmission) at 180K miles and needs no work.... Plus I average 17mpg combined, 40 miles per day to and from work.
Not only that, is the driver's care. I dont care how many studies there are out there of synthetic oil longevity. I will always change the oil in my car's engine every 3-5000 miles or 6 months. Nothing more, nothing less, and any engine will last a lifetime. The key is to keep up with all the maintenance of the car. Some people will think its overdoing it, but you will laugh at them in your old junker that still runs great while those people are crying their eyeballs out because their 3 year car left them stranded on the highway. There is also some care you can take to prevent rust. Every now and then, rinse the underside of the car to prevent the salt do its thing, and try as much as you can, to get a garage to park your car and not leave it under the sun, rain and snow.
@@Kevin09210 from my experience just maintaining the manufacturer's recommended service intervals will keep you vehicle running for many many years, doing more diligent maintenance and the sky's the limit!

Pre-Recession GMs are pretty reliable, 08-13 they cheaped out on the build quality. The current issue is the fuel management system. I think a third gen C/Ks like Big Green are the best, you still see a lot of them out there.

The late '90s and early 2000's 5.3 Chevy engines were some of the best V8's ever made for light duty trucks. Our beater gets abused real bad and runs like a top. Just keep up with the maintenance. Those Chevy HD front ends are complete crap. Rebuild every 3 months with daily towing. Switched from an '03 6.6 to a 2013 6.7 for that very reason. The 6.6 engine is phenomenal though.
I've owned two gm vehicles in my life, if I count family we've had 5 all together all but one were trucks. My conclusion on their reliability is that they are reliable as long as you feed them a steady diet of parts lol. So basically, they seem reliable until you own a different brand and realize that you've had to touch it much much less.
TheCarChannel in other words: they are unreliable turds that leak every substance known to mankind, but they will get you where you need to go if you baby them.
TheCarChannel, You just gave the most accurate review of a Chevy Truck. I owned a 2007 Chevy Avalanche. Just sold it about 9 mos ago. It is a nice looking truck, and had a real regal "status" about it. I put about 100,000+ miles on it, but like you said, you are steady replacing parts because GM uses cheap crap in their trucks. Rear differential, all kinds of Sensors, Brake lights, rust from the crap GM paint job, catalytic converter, TWO transmissions...you name it. After the transmission blew again (Once at 120,000 then at 160,000) I was like screw it and got me a "hold over" vehicle until I can afford to get a me a good truck. Folks think I am crazy for giving up the Avalanche, but it is more cost efficient to just get something else instead of dumping money into it every season.
@@playboy03 i hate to be so harsh with any vehicle but its the truth they use crappy parts. Even out on the street at least here in california its not uncommon to see a late model GM truck with a headlight bulb that is out. Sure bulbs are only a few bucks but if they skimped out on something as cheap as that....you can only imagine the rest. Best truck i've ever owned is a Nissan bought in 08 that's stil in the family and going strong despite me jumping it in the dunes, and thousands and thousands of miles off the beaten path. It hasn't been perfect but it doesn't leak a drop of anything, and has never even been out of alignment.
To me, these are all new trucks. I drive a 1994 Chevy Silverado extended cab with a step side bed. It has the original 350 V8, and original transmission and rear end. It’s my work truck, and I drive it every day, all day long. 253K miles and everything works on it, including the AC. The paint is following off, like most 90s Chevies. It’s a Texas truck, so it has no rust. When it breaks, it’s easy to fix, since it only has a couple of sensors. My other truck is a 2000 Ford F-350 with the 7.3 diesel. I will probably die before that truck dies.
My mother has an old 99 1500 z71 with over 430k, frame broke on both sides severing fuel and brake lines, I repaired all that about 6 years ago, replaced a ps pump. Not a tick in it still. Hoping one day she’ll replace it with a less rusty one.

My coworker has an 02 with 305,000 and my buddy has an 03 2500 hd with the 6.0 vortec with 406,000 miles on it! Least to say I'm very excited to make this thing last!
Still have that truck?
Ya, she's got 303,000 and some change right now
Congrats young man.. they road armor I have owned 2.

That's what she said
Proper maintenance will make any vehicle reach its maximum potential!
Marco Baraco right on ! Oil changes &. Other Fulid changes & filters
That’s true. But not true. Some motors really sucked. The 5.4 for sucked. The 6.0 for diesel sucked. I could go on. But if you’re OCD about maintenance then there’s a possibility of making it so far.
Amen
And the 5.3 v8 themselves don’t let you down but the transmissions and the fuel pumps do
Yep my fuel pump went out right in front of the insurance place luckily I personally know some mechanics and they changed the fuel pump out on the spot
And rear main seals
I’ve never had issues with the transmission on those trucks. Fuel pumps, yes, and those 5.3s always start ticking in the valves around 150k miles. They will go 200k but they will make a bunch of nasty noise. The only transmission I saw have issues was at 300k miles and it didn’t fully fail until 400k. Just slipped a little before that.
@@willdog3 Mine has 465K it only ticks when it's cold and only for about 30 seconds.
You forget about all the intake gaskets and head gaskets
Every chevy truck ive owned(5) have gone well over 300k miles. I bought them all used.
My 2008 Silverado 4.8.
I had it since 2009 and no mayor problems, Has 224k miles. Love it.

@@darkglide24 💯👍
@Slippschitts Hey Tennessee. We get snow a couple times a year so salt isn't a problem.

This is why Fords sell more. Ford owners have to trade in their old Ford to buy a new one because they fall apart and GM owners just keep driving their vehicles forever.

Our 2005 Silverado with a 4.8L V8 has been great! 240,000KM on the stock bottom end.
Hey Andre. This is Darren McBride. I can send you the carfax report on my truck if you want to see it.
I have an 08 Silverado.....4.8....he has 293,000 miles on him and going strong....i bought the truck when it had 41,000 miles on it....best truck i have ever had
I have a 05 Yukon Denali 6.0 AWD absolute beast, fully loaded, cheap parts, best cheap cars imo
TheCarChannel,
You just gave the most accurate review of a Chevy Truck.

The 99 with about 530k miles with the enthuszt sticker, represent!
my 99 has no rust and only 87k orig miles. awesome truck.
All these trucks are 10/10 especially the 1st one. To go that far is a 10 all day in my books!
My 1977 C10 Silverado had over 700,000 miles on the original 350 and 350turbo transmission before it needed any major repairs.
