This is a video that several have asked about. What are the differences in years in the nbs silverado and sierra. What year of silverado and sierra do I like best? What changes were made in the nbs silverado and Sierra? Which is the best NBS and Why? I try to answer all the differences and explain why I like one over the other. The GMT800 or the NBS GM Trucks ran from 1999-2006 and 2007 Classic. It is commonly referred to as the NBS or New Body Style. It replace the OBS or Old Body Style. It is a very popular model and easy to mod and make look good for cheap. I wanted to talk about the things I like and dislike about the trucks. Which year is best and some of the things I would change if I did another build. I may make a follow up video on how to buy and what to look for in the nbs platform when shopping. This also gives you a chance to see all the NBS trucks together at one time that we currently own. I have done a lot to the green 2002 GMC Sierra. We have done the power window conversion a LS Swap from the V6 and of course lowering and cosmetic upgrades. If you are looking for one of the best platform trucks to modify I really think the NBS is the one. Hit the Comments and let me know what you think.......

99 Silverado/Sierra was the only year of the NBS that came out with blue interior like the OBS. Also the power buttons are grey on the 99. The 99-00 had pull out cup holders on the dash instead of being bellow the middle seat like the rest of the years. The center seat on the 99 and some 2000 are more like the OBS they had the writing pad. Transmission cross member on the 99 was also flush.
More good information
I got the rare medium oak interior 2000 (peanut butter color )
I love that color
@@nbsgio07i ordered mine with it and when its clean it looks brand new
I love my 99 blue on blue. Getting interior parts is damn near impossible
Love my 01. Only 165000k. My grandpa gave it to me. He bought it brand new. Haven’t done any upgrades yet. Had it just under 2 years now. Got tired of searching for a decent square body. Nbs trucks are everywhere and so much easier to get
Definitely good trucks
Totally agree, the 99-02 front end looks the best. No need for an HD hood, looks clean the way it sits. Was looking for a newer model and doing a backwards conversion, but ended up finding a 2000 for a good price, love it!
I wish I would have bought a 06 and done the conversion
Great content!
The 05-06 rear drum brake trucks had larger front rotors and calipers that ended up being what was used on the GMT900 platform. That ends up being a nice upgrade to GMT 800 trucks. It does require at least a 17 inch wheels
I have actually done that
My 04 also had rear drum brakes that I upgraded to disc from 04 suburban
👍
I have an 07 classic and one thing I noticed is that the oil filters are different than 99-06, the threads are bigger. Another difference is the 06-07 classic throttle pedals are different from 03-05 and I think 03-05 feels a little more responsive off the line.
More good info
How come they are more responsive?
Electronic throttle body
Great video for us nbs guys!
Something I found out recently for a visual upgrade is the windshield cowl trim piece around the wiper arms. Most have the wire mesh vents. They get surface rust or get pushed in usually. Ended up finding these other style cowl trim pieces off the HD trucks, or maybe a 3500 series, that have the vent holes without the wire mesh and have plastic molded vents. Looks way cleaner.
Interesting info. May have to upgrade lol
Link to the piece?
@@josejosejose33 local wrecking yard may have some.
Best place to find stuff sometimes
99-02 have a serviceable cabin filter. 03-07c that was eliminated completely.
Also 99-02 had under dash lighting. 03-07 that was eliminated.
Good info
And a Locking center console etc. The bean counters were getting pushy in 03.
..you can make it servicable iirc.
Not sure
Just found your channel a month ago when I was looking at shop building videos and I really like the size and layout of yours so I subscribed now your becoming one of my favorite TH-cambers because we have similar taste
Thank you
I love the 1999, 1 year only blue interior. That's one of my unicorns.
Love the gmt800 platform/content. Keep em coming.
Saw one of those for sale recently actually
@@TWAMotorsports maybe one day someone will save one and make some content doing it.
Maybe
I have never been this early. I love these comparisons
Thank you
My brother just a 305 v8 305 in a 98 shevy pick up
7 months ago I bought a 2002 GMC Sierra SLT with 53000 miles.
It was A one owner garage kept. 2 tone paint black and Gray with with black interior. Body and interior are immaculate.
I had to pay top dollar for it $20000 dollars. It was worth it. I love the front end of the truck will definitely keep it forever
Sounds like an awesome truck!
My 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT has factory drive-by-wire with the 'traction assist' button. It was surprising to say the least. I thought all 99-02 were cable driven. Great video!
A few 02s had that
Awesome. I really enjoy the NBS content ,Brings back fond memories of my youth. I believe from 04-06 GM offered the LQ9 engine on extended cab trucks. Known as the VHO. Without the SS option.
Also OnStar & XM where available as an option for the 03 MY.
Yes like a vortec max truck. They did make those.
I have a 2006 GMC 1 ton crew cab. It has a 8.1 which is now 540 cubic inches. I thoroughly enjoy this truck .
Had one a while back.
Raylar 540 stroker kit with the 4.75" stroke?
Just got a chevy 3500 dually 6.0l 4.10 4l80 rig with just 57k miles.... i cant wait start new adventures with it!
That's awesome
This video was a wealth of information....but this comment section is a treasure trove!!
👍
That black stepside is gorgeous! Hell, all three trucks are - you have immaculate taste. Love the content.
Thank you
Nbs content is always great!
Thanks for the info.
Thank you
I'm with ya on the front end. I love my 2001 front end just the way it is lol.
👍
Keep the great work hope you have a great day I have a 2005 and 1987 and 1972 I'm still looking for 1995 to 1999 rcsb and 2016 to 2018 rcsb my dad has 1999 and 2002 and 2005 and 2006 and 2007 we like regular cab shortbed
Sounds like you guys have the same problems. Lol
I might add that swapping the din and a half for a double din in a 99-02 is a pain in the ass. I had to buy a new double din bracket housing and new front dash cover. And then still had to modify the new double din bracket to fit in a full/normal sized double din stereo. I’d highly recommend that if you’re considering going double din in the 99-02, buy one that is shallow mount. It’ll be a lot easier to install and no need to purchase a new double din bracket. A shallow mount will fit perfectly. JVC makes great shallow mounted double din stereos with apple carplay/android auto for a decent price.
I may do that eventually with a metra surround
Man I learned so much from this video thank you
Glad it was informative
Love this video ! I have an 02 and personally I’d take that over anything besides an 06-07 classic year one
I just like the 2003 up interiors better
I got a 02 GMC Sierra love that truck
Thank you. Me too
Awesome video, learned quite a bit! Sold my 02 black rcsb because I thought I wanted a obs, after seeing your line up and how great the green truck looks kinda changing my mind🤪 just wish nice ones weren’t so hard to find! Seems like obs are so much easier to find 🤷🏻♂what’s your opinion? Thanks
Obs looks good too in my opinion
Im a huge fan of the OBS, it was my first truck so I never fell out of love with it. They're harder to find around here than the nbs, which seem to be EVERYWHERE!
They are getting harder to find
@@TWAMotorsports and expensive! I've seen 25 year old trucks with well over 100k going for more than say a 2012 or 13 with less miles. Should have kept all my old work trucks, I'd have a fortune!
For sure
Do you ever plan on putting an hd hood on the green sierra? It would look badass
No plan to
Terrific informative video, considering a 2006 and this was a huge help…thx!
Thank you. Glad it helped
@@TWAMotorsports to be honest I thought 2006 was the final production year for that generation. I was unaware of the 2007 “classic”…how long did that go on for? I am always interested in the final run when usually all the bugs are eliminated and improvements/twethave been made.
@TheKingInHiding half way thru the year
Another well done video! Thanks for all the great info. You have a nice setup all around.
Thank you
Love this video I got a green 99 Sierra and currently doing some 03-06 conversions
That would be the best of both.
Thanks for sharing your truck show and tell! I should do a video of my truck and have you do the voiceover! I always forget whether my truck is SLE or SLT, but it is a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 VHO 6.0. Whenever, I look for parts I have more success when I state it is a Denali trim minus the "fake wood".
Thank you
Very cool comparison; my truck collection isn't quite as cool as yours, but i have a 02 yukon xl 2500 and a 05 tahoe that gives me a lot of at least interior comparison. I like the 05 steering wheel better but otherwise i love my 02 a lot. But the packages are different. The 02 leather seats are amazingly comfortable. I also have a 97 suburban 2500; big difference between them
Thank you. They are all dependable and good trucks
What's your wheel combo on the green truck
20 inch ltz wheels
03 or 04 GM scrapped the under hood light which sucks cause everyonce in a while it would come in handy. My 2006 crew cab I bought new didn’t have it. Also it don’t have tpms sensors so it may of just been the Tahoe like you mentioned.
I agree on hood light. Pretty sure tpms is only tahoe
Yeah. These trucks are pretty reliable but that hood light still is nice. Would of came in handy a few weeks ago when I was adjusting my headlights after replacing all four lenses. I want to hit a local scrap yard to see if I can find one. I think they reproduce them but there’s no electrical included with those.
Mine never makes enough light to do anything
@@TWAMotorsports Great Vid, my 05 NBS STS need under the hood lighting, how about doing a duel LED setup on the stepside. ?
Probably wouldn't be a hard add
07 Classic here, 4.8, manual windows lol
Its fairly simple. I've learned about the fuel filter in the tank trick they pulled, real stupid. And this nylon on the Ujoints?! Whats that? Thanks for the rear disk info, Ill keep it stock there. Not used to the new trucks and rack & pinion is excessive I think. The 79, 87 and 96 trucks are so much different. I refuse to by a newer truck. Too many great ideas coming out in later years from engineering.
Yeah lots of different combos
I love em all!!!! Still rockin my 03 cateye ext cab and loving every minute of it!!!!!
Me too. Wish I could keep them all
@@TWAMotorsports Hey brother I am finally about to do the belltech kit on my 15 escalade (I’ve had the kit for almost a year lol)…still waiting on the front spring cups to come in (backordered til 4/3/23).
I just wanted to say thanks for all the quality info you provide. It means and helps a lot man. We definitely share similar interests and tastes when it comes to vehicles. I really enjoy your content. You da man bro you da man 👍👍👍
God Bless America 🇺🇸 and the 2A
Thank you very much
Good block of instruction on the NBS trucks cause for the longest I had no idea what OBS or NBS truck style was 🤷♂️. But then again I not as up to date on all of these.
If I had to pick I’d pick that green truck but I like the black truck as well. Personally I do not care for electronic throttle bodies, I like cable, just my old school preference.
Good video! You schooled us all well or at least this old man 😉
Thank you. Definitely a lot more info being added in the comments I didn't cover
Great video 💯 I’ll be waiting for the floor mat video
May be a while
the 03 and up GMC grills heavily remind me of the late 50s gmc grills. Think 1957, it's a bit hard to see but I think there is some resemblance.
I can see that
Love my ext cab but would love to have single cab one day. I just love having the extra room. Crew cabs are badass too
Extra room is nice
@@TWAMotorsports what's the tire size on the 20s on the GMC. There's a gold '03 I've been looking for. I got asking looking to buy my ext cab. Going for the same look. Lol thanks
245/45-20 on green truck
Nice collection man very beautiful rigs
Thank you
@@TWAMotorsports np
Love the videos brother !!!
Thank you
Its probably been said already, but 05-07 come with factory electric fans. Big upgrade over the clutch fan
Said that in the video I think
When I did the engine and electric swap for my 2002 sierra, it came out of a 2002 suburban. I got a different version of drive-by wire and flex fuel.
My 2007 classic did not have tpms, I think lt2 and lt3 trims did.
Good info
My 02 Silverado cable throttle felt more responsive than my 08 drive by wire. Of course that’s a nnbs vs nbs but anyhow.
Really. I don't feel that.
What bedliner is in the green truck?
Line x
Nice little collection... 👍
Thank you. It's about to thin out
Gauge clusters have a completely design between the first gen and the updated model and in 03-05 they had a digital PRNDL where as 06-07 they had a printed one on the cluster. And I've noticed that the seat controls are different between the two generations but for some reason in the 03+ trucks you were able to get power adjustable seats but they removed the lumbar support wheel, the only trucks that had lumbar support where the fully electric seats. Center consoles were different between the two generations and the updated models only had 1 power outlet + cigarette lighter where as the first gen has 2 + cigarette lighter. For 99-02 trucks specifically 1999 & 2000 if you press the dome override button 5 times it wouldn't shut off your automatic headlights/DRLs but they added that feature to 01 & 02 trucks only. Another thing for the 99-02 they changed the design of the engine cover/intake manifold and I think it was between 00 & 01 where their engine covers went from square to round.
At the moment that's all I can think of
Should have definitely talked about the console and clusters
99-02 to 03-05 the trip meter reset is in a different spot (i believe the plugs are different too) another difference, fog light/headlight switch plug is different between the two. OBS, 98, had a under hood tool kit!
@@mipakr the plugs for the clusters are all the same surprisingly, like you're able to put a 03+ cluster in your 99-02 truck but the moment you plug it in the check engine light turns on, nothing works, and it blows a fuse. And it's a given that since they updated the headlight controls/foglights the plug would 100% be different between the two generations
Yep that is correct
Noted.
Also, Vortec Max 6.0 trucks retained rear disc brakes in 05-07, also quadrasteer trucks as well
Yeah that's right
04 cat eye step side here.
👍
I like the 02 Sierra front end but you have to have the HD hood. That is what makes them look classic .I have always thought the cat eyes front end does’t match the rest of the body. The hood has a that big gap from the side and sharp edges. Again the 99-02 Silverado looks better with the HD hood.
I like hd hoods on the 99-02
Quick question can you swap 03 climate control a year down to the 99-02 (Single Zone) climate control? If so how it’s a much cleaner look in my opinion.
No you can not
Didn’t think so, thanks anyways
You're welcome
Does anyone know what escalades years are compatible with a 99 sierra???
Some parts from 2001-2006
Are those oem mirrors on the gmc in the middle ? Idk I feel about them I got my oem ones on mine but these look so sleek and racing style like forsure ! Super nice video btw 👍
No they are not. Calvu mirrors
@@TWAMotorsportswhat are your thoughts on them compared to the oem ones ?
@fredisolez4276 better looking
The L33 Silverado/Sierra was 4wd extended cab shortbed 6.6 bed only
Been waiting on this one!! 🤙🏽
Missed several things.
3 clean trucks! Love em
Thank you
The tail lights are different from 99-07c, 99-03 have the red surrounds, 04-07c have black surrounds. Also noticed the badging changes, 99-03 have the 1500 badges on the doors, Silverado and Chevrolet on the tailgate, 04-07c no more door badges and 06-07c no Chevrolet tailgate badge just Silverado.
Absolutely right. Forgot about that
Hi Travis my name is Tommy from Long Island New. Can you tell me what does NBS signify. Tommy
New body style
@@TWAMotorsports Thank You Sr keep up the good work I love your channel.
Thank you
Looking me an ss or cateye pretty soon.
You can borrow my 02 for a video if you want.
Should have before
Great video! Prices are all over the place in my area. Can I ask what you would consider a good price range to pay for an 04 GMC SLE crew cab with 185,000 miles? Clean truck little to no rust.
Any rust under 9k no rust 11k
@@TWAMotorsports Thank you, I really appreciate the response.
@jham2449 you're welcome
The phenolic pistons on the single piston calipers would swell and not go back in the caliper that caused the issue
If you had the issue and it was a new caliper you probably have the master cylinder leaking into the booster replace both and bleed the system front with the engine running if you have issues with it
As mentioned in the comments, to add to the comment made about 99-02 under dash lights, the mounts are still there for 03-06 and easy to add.
I noticed they were there on my black stepside
A/C Filters on early trucks also. Went away in 03 with a lot of stuff. Damn bean counters.
I like the step sides more then fleetsides, just my opinion
I am more of a fleetside guy
The hd hood on the right is where its at
Thank you
What’s the paint color code on the green Sierra? Beautiful truck by the way!
Can't remember
you can put a 02 front end on a 06 right?
Yes
Great video
Thank you
Great video👍🏽. I just picked up an 02 Chevy stepside this past Saturday. What do I need for the cleanest double din conversion?
Not sure what fitment is like yet. Hopefully someday I will do this.
Several companies make 99-02 double din conversion trim that just swaps in, you will have to cut/dremel out the plastic behind the stock stereo but it's not too bad.
Eventually I will do that
can u put on and show us how to put auto remote start on NBS trucks? please
Maybe some day
I’ve been wondering are the two different engine covers interchangeable, I’ve been wanting to put the newer style engine cover on my 2000 Chevy Silverado?
They should be
What’s the difference between a 07 Silverado Classic and the regular Silverado?
Just the last year. Made old body style and new body style in the same year. Classic is the old 2003-2006 body style
Honestly just to get the chevy 99 to 02 and square body to have pretty much every bodystyle lol
I know. Need to sell some.
Oh goddamn don’t get me started on my gmt 800 sickness. 2000 ext cab swb Silverado,2000 rcsb Silverado,07 classic crew cab w the 6.6bed,2003 Yukon XL,2002 Yukon and a 2005 Tahoe Z71 and none are even close to stock,03 Yukon has 06 Sierra nose, dual climate on all trucks, HDround nose on 07 classic,Denali Nose conversion on 01 ext cab,all Silverado, all converted to cable throttle cuz I just prefer ‘em,4l80 swaps,a couple on boost,TR-6060 Swap coming soon on rcsb…. I’m gonna quit typing cuz I could go on all day. All 5.3s w 799 heads w uncapped injectors btw. This may be commenting on my wife’s profile but it’s her who helps make it all work cuz she’s right by my side ALL THE WAY and wrenches right along with me! Love you Heidi Welch!!!
That was supposed to be just “Silverado”after the comment about the Denali swap.
That is a problem lol
On the 99-02 what did u have to do for the power window swap because i have a stepside one but it has the roll up windows
I made a whole video series on this on my channel
Trucks look grate 👍🏻 I my self have an 06 RST John moss edition
Nice
I also have a an 03 gmc single cab Sierra 5.3 2wd with 89k for sale idk if you would be intrested in it
I don't need anymore
I never realized NBS how that long of a run. So, in theory, could you put the green truck's front on the red truck?
You could but would need fenders and hood also
@@TWAMotorsports Doesn't sound too bad to me.
Not terrible
I had a 04 silverado 1500 with manual throttle
Interesting. Not a factory option
Do you know if the lower valance from a 2002 gmc sierra will fit a tahoe valance? Or will I need a new bumper?
It will not. Different bumpers
That black truck would be perfect if it wasn’t step side.
Everyone likes something different I guess
The 2002 silverado frame it’s the same the 2006 silverado?
Yes on most
Beautiful trucks
Thank you
Except some ext cab and all crew cabs at least the z71 has dual rears
👍
Is the fog light switch connection the same on both nbs
I don't think so
I’m shock’d u didn’t push the OBS out 2 add in the line-up…..what’s the selling price on each, including OBS?
Not sure on pricing
@@TWAMotorsports I’ve been look’n 4 a OBS shorty & your black 1 is grow’n on me. You’re green one is same color as my old ‘15 Silverado. I’m in the market if you’re consider’n sell’n.
Probably be overpriced honestly. Just because I have no desire to sell
@@TWAMotorsports I understand my man, I’m a car/truck guy…that’s part of the game 😎
Nice clean trucks
Thank you
When I grow up!!! Clean!!
Me too. Lol
What type of rims are on the stepside?
Cadillac escalade replica
Where would you rank all the different front ends from 99-07? I’m assuming you’d rank 99-02 last lol
Lol. 99-02 Gmc, 03-07 GMC, 06-07 Silverado, 99-02 Silverado, 03-05 Silverado
What size of wheels and tires are on your 05 ?
20s, 275/45
Great video!!!
Thank you
all switches, steering wheel, two piece center console, and seats on the 99-02 trucks just dont look and feel nearly as nice as 03+ IMO
03 fleetside had no black border on tail lights like 04-07 classic
super rare but i believe in 2000? you could get a 5.3 with the nv3500 5 speed before that option went to 4.3 and 4.8 only
also, all kinds of weird configurations with the NBS mexican silverados / cheyennes using old L31 ( i think) engines
True, the list goes on and on.
What exact years are the gmc’s
Green is 02, black is 03
Your green 2002 has the wrong engine cover on it 😊
Came out of 01
What about cruise control??
Not much difference really
What do you do for a living.?
Made a video on that too. Sell insurance as of now
i drive a 2001 extra z71 silverado with 312000 miles. uses very little oil
They are built to last
At what point do you stop calling them an NBS? They are old now and even the obs was new at some point. So is the 2007.5 - 2013 the NNBS and the 2014-18 the NNNBS and the 2019+ the NNNNBS?
Lol. I agree. Nnnnnnnnnbs for 2050
I live in illinois, you cant find these trucks not rusted out or with 200k+ miles. Im jealous
That is true. Several rusty ones here too
What do you want for the stepside? You have had it long enough lol
