I agree with the 1st part. Not so the 2nd: it's been on reruns on TV, so it's doesn't reflect on anyone's age. If you need more spirits' lifting, I'd recommend: "How to be sexy like the French: lesson #1". (Not what you'd expect from the title, though not sure what lesson 2 will be.) Check it out! XD

Precious! No one can play Maria VonTrapp as brilliantly real as Julie Andrews! The Sound of Music has become the most inspiring & best musical & movie of all times! The relationship of the 7 kids, the way they embraced each other & more so toward Julie was endearing! Julie is the perfect step mom very nurturing with an aura that one can't help but love her!

Ok so I feel like when I say this nobody believes me but Imma tell it anyway.
My Dad remembers being babysat by the Von Trapps. They lived in the Stowe, Vermont area where my Great Grandfather actually helped them find some land to settle on. They loved Vermont because the Mountains reminded them so much of Austria. They even called my Great Grandfather "Uncle Craig".
I really wish I could have met Maria, or that I could at least meet Johannes, the youngest of the children (and the only one to be born in the U.S).

Are you saved friend? If you died tonight will you go to heaven or hell? God Almighty, the Creator was manifest in the flesh. He came into the world to take away the sin of the world. He gave up his own life to save yours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for your redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him.
This is the Gospel which means the Good News. Turn to Christ and live.

I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon visiting Marie Von Trapp at her home in Stowe, Vt., in July 1968. She was an amazing woman and very strong. We hiked up a mountaintop to show me, my mother and sister the gravesite of the Baron Von Trapp. I was 15 years old and was totally out of breath when we got there and she made the climb without any problem. I'll never forget that experience!

The Trapp Family Lodge was a beautiful place--I hope to revisit it again someday. I particularly remember all the flowers. When Maria came into the room to greet us she was carrying a flower pot with a large colorful floral arrangement--I think she was taking it out to her garden. I remember her introducing us to Johannes in the parking lot after our walk--he appeared to be a young college student to me at that point. Such a nice day--and hard to believe it was now over 45 years ago.

She told stories about Mr. Von Trapp and his disaster of a front porch (it went down) and when asked if there was anything she was unhappy with or didn't like about the movie ... she thought for a moment with that smile of hers and then said that she wished that the theater folks AND the movie folks had looked at a map and realized that Switzerland is NOT just over the hill from Austria ... Yodeling is meant to exaggerate the "break" between registers. Julie had been classically trained for most of her life and had really blended together her break. Her muscle memory amd conditioning literally made yodeling impossible.
Edit: I was speaking in hyperbole. Technically she could learn to yodel, but it would have been very difficult given the specific training she was brought up on.

back in the 80s... I lived in Stowe Vermont... And I had a part-time job with Maria Von Trapp in her home as her private cook... Maria loved her Birds and fed them everyday... She had a candle and statue of Jesus and blessed mother in each room... her favorite program where The Waltons... it reminded her of her own family... I want since to do store to a tuna casserole... She never had anything like this before... She loved it... She had asked me to make it with chicken the next time and so she invited her whole family for chicken casserole... she also loved her bread and butter... One of the loveliest memories of my military career was visiting Salzburg, Austria and seeing many of the places made famous by the movie and that were, in fact, used by the von Trapp family in their escape from the Nazis. The frosting on that cake was visiting the house where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born. Been many years, but those memories are still so very fresh in my mind.

As we were standing in the old town, I said, "You know honey, Mozart was born somewhere here in this little town." As I was saying this, a woman leading in a tour group next to us began speaking, "And right above us is Motzart's 'Geburtshaus'!"
