The Golden Age of Hollywood! Everything about this film is wonderful, the music, the script, the direction, the actors. What a pity that Hollywood is not capable of making films like this today. This movie made me a much kinder person in 2.5 hours. This film made me much kinder, in 2.5 hours, I smiled for 2.5 hours because I was in a good mood. For many years I whistled, hummed and hummed the songs from this film, and I was in a good mood.
+Leonie Ladner I know right!! The look on his face the moment he heard her whistle at HIM. Like 'How dare she!!' LMAO same with the children's faces! 'Oh no she didn't!'
SnowbirdFlock I think she's the favorite because she's the youngest. I mean if you watch a movie or a tv show most of the youngest children are the reason why many people watch. I personally love Liesl. I was always attracted to that girl even when I was 10 and first saw it.
"This is a large house, the grounds are very extensive and I will not have anyone shouting". Uh-huh. I'd rather have ear-piercing, shrill, high-pitched whistles. yeah, that's not aversive at all. Still, I love this movie so much. :-)
Actually, to a navy man, it makes total sense. On a ship, yelling for people is entirely impractical. There's too wide a space and too much going on. The whistle is both loud and easily distinguished, so the commands are easily understood.
Same here. I watched Sound Of Music for the first time in 1971, and I it's still my number 1 movie. Rest in peace Christopher Plummer (Capt Von Trapp).
I love this scene. Maria isn't intimidated by the Captain and demands to be treated with respect. It annoys him in the moment, but her inner fire and her unwillingness to take any BS from him is precisely what saves him and his family and makes him fall in love with her. The part where she whistles at him and he turns around and she looks at him like, "Yeah, you don't like it when it's done to you, huh?" makes me laugh every time, and it's one of my favorite exchanges between them. Also, watching this scene knowing that she apparently started falling for him the first time he blew the whistle is equally hilarious, given how she just stands there with her mouth open XD.

I loved his remark after Maria sat on the pine cone and jumped up in surprise, yelling and grabbing her rear end. "Enchanting little ritual. Something you. . . uh . . .learned at the abbey?" I can just picture all of the nuns doing that in unison before a meal ;)
Everything about this production is A+. Story line, acting, cinematography, music and being a true story makes this the greatest musical film of all time.. I can’t think of anything that compares, can you??.
Watching this from ever since I can remember, I used to love the bit where Brigitta just casually strolls out immersed in her book lol, she reminds me of me haha
When she used the whistle at the Captain that's an alpha male challenge move right there...because that's exactly what a guy would do. So looks like you're wrong lol.
There are some reasons why this story will last forever. The glare in his eyes when a woman who is a failed nun dared to question a man's instruction, him a decorated navy captain with a huge homestead. However, it was her resistance to his arrogance that led the family to a happier life.
I always thought it was so ridiculous that anyone, let alone children, should be able to discern between so many similar whistle calls. Maria made the perfect comeback by attempting to whistle the Captain.
This is surely my favourite film of all time. I must have seen this movie at least 200 times & never get tired of watching it. I first saw it when my mum took me to see it when it first came out in 1965, when I was at boarding school. I even played truant from school just so that I could go & see it again & again. Even at the now age of 61, it still brings me to tears, which is unusual for most men.
+Michael John Wicks nostalgia is very powerful. I'm only 23, but I watched it as a kid and it was also one of my favorites. I'd give anything to live in Austria, Bavaria or Switzerland in those days. If only WWII didn't happen. The culture is just gorgeous and I feel sad that we will never recapture it in 2016. :(
I heard that at first she wasn't sure she WANTED to play in this movie... If I remember correctly she was worried it would be too much like Mary Poppins. I'm so glad she did tho...
She did a fabulous job in Mary Poppins, but IIRC that was the year that My Fair Lady came out on film. Julie had played the female lead, Eliza Dolittle, on Broadway, but Audrey Hepburn was cast as Eliza in the film. Some people have theorized that her Oscar win for Mary Poppins was at least partially out of sympathy for the loss of the role of Eliza.
No matter how many times I have watched this movie, it still makes me want to watch again and again!! One of the best movies to ever have been produced and directed in Hollywood!! Ever green classic!!

I never tire of this beautiful movie. Even though it was based on a real family it was not quite the truth according to the Von Trapp family. The country they came from is beautiful and I have watched this several times a year over my 75 years and I'm ready to watch it again. RIP Christopher Plummer!
Lol. Bare in mind, she is supposed to be only 19 years old (that's how old the real Maria was) so I could see that conversation as having happened in real life.

She may have been counting b/c she saw the large space between Kurt and Marta and realized one child was missing. The Mother Abbess had previously told her that there were seven children. ("Do you like children?" "Well yes . . . but SEVEN!!!")The whistle and noise of the footsteps, though, could have been a shock to her system.
I never get tired of watching this movie, I absolutely love everything about this movie. Julie Andrews performance was spectacular! How are you doing Bonnie?
Enjoyed this movie when I was very young. Never thought that I faced the same scene when I became a widower in my 40s with 3 young children and was looking at a new relationship. It was so difficult to get a woman into a family with children. Near impossible and it takes a lot of effort to make it work. In one of the scenario I nearly became Brady's bunch re-run.
I highly disagree. I would LOVE to see the REAL story. I know Japan got it closer with an anime, but I would love to see a movie based on the real story.
The most beautiful film I have ever seen! It brings a lot of childhood memories! The main characters are outstanding. I still see it from time to time.
This was actually my mother's first movie that she ever saw when she lived in Trinidad in the early 70s. I learned that movies came out in different times in other countries. R.I.P Charmian Carr aka Liesl.
Aloha everyone that were responsible for this fabulous movie including the entire musical cast !!!! I love "The Sound of Music." I have watched this movie over 58 times plus !!!! And because of you all~~~the joy, heartaches, laughter, beautiful natural beauty and political challenges portrayed~~~~ made me so captivated !!!! Personally you all had an important role in extending my life span !!! Every time I listen to any of the songs from this movie, I am taking my "longevity pill." And yes, I am 78 years old and still "kicking" (He-he-he) Grateful fan, Robert S.J. Hu from Hawaii----50th State.
I like it when the Captain asks her if she was that much trouble in the abbey, and she states she was much worst at the abbey..... Damn jealous of that nun , even though she was a lot of trouble within the nun sect, was so lucky to get out and found a good looking Captain and the children all grown up and ready to go....
One greatest film movie. Still remember had flute from Julie Andrew but couldn’t pay payment so had returned it to school. Back 1977 or 1978. Use sing my school class
I don't know why I just paid close attention to the fact that his second whistle signal for Gretl is different than the first time. He was just being random. LOL!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES!!! And the fact that it's based on a true story makes it more inspiring!!! I had to buy the movie!!! Each character played their part with excellence!!!AND I LOVED IT!!!🤗 Two of my favorite scenes is when he dances with her and then when they first get acquainted out!💝🙏😇

***** YES it is true. Maria was really the stern one.Google it......she didn't love the father but she did love the children. She was not as sweet as Julie Andrews in this movie but she was said to be very nice at times, however, she had a bad temper during some occasions. Here's just ONE of the many links where you'll find the same info. www.archives.gov/publications/prologue/2005/winter/von-trapps.html
***** But she was. Anyway, I can't tell you what to believe. I'm merely stating the facts. I think you find that hard to believe because of the way Christopher Plummer portrayed him in this movie. And he did a fantastic job in this role. Anyhow even though the movie was not 100% accurate, when compared to the real story, it is still a great and memorable movie. One of the best regardless.
Maria von trap was stern yes. She has even said in interwes that she is sad the way her husband has been portraited in this movie he was not like that. He was a kind loving father. The children was not that open to them getting married they loved her as a governess but dident want a new mother so as you can see they made the story fit hollywood. Maria could not do annything about it she had nothing to say about it couse sje sold all rights to it to the first person that made a movie and he gave her a bad deal. But at that point Maria was desperate for money they where about to loose everything there is a documentary here on youtube about it i just dont remember the name.
This scene is largely taken from a description in Maria's 1949 book. Yet, in her 1972 book, she states that the Captain was not at home when she first arrived, and that the housekeeper introduced her to the children.
No matter how old we are or how old this movie is, it is still Rocking enjoy watching it every times Maria and the Captain made this movie lives on forever, the Hollywood best Power Couple back in their days and they still do, they both look amazing.
One of the best movies ever always a classic to watch really appreciate your singing and style RIP Christopher Plummer you did a excellent job thanks for the memories take care. Joe
It always killed me the way Louisa liked to pretend she was one of her sisters.(right after this, when Maria has each kid say their name again and their age, Louisa says,"I'm Brigitta.")In the play version Louisa also claims she's Marta, when they're meeting Baroness Schraeder.
This was the first movie I have seen in my life when our English teacher took the whole class on a field trip to watch it as it came out. It still holds the dearest spot in my heart to this day.
At 2:58 she should've said "But what if you're in another room? This is a large house, the grounds are very extensive, and I will not have anyone shouting."

I never get tired of watching this movie, I absolutely love everything about this movie. Julie Andrews performance was spectacular! How are you doing Bonnie?
"Now, when I want you, this is what you will hear."
I've never seen this movie, but that cracks me up.
Anna Bourbon this is not a disney movie. im not even sure if disney existed in the 60s. i think this is warner bros or touchstone
@@saklee1777 Disney definitely existed in the 60s. But I don't think it would be on Disney
It's called The Sound of Music, based on a true story.
RIP 😔 Captain. Christopher Plummer. Beautiful movie, all the cast.
LOL She totally had him with that whistle!!

THIS is fabulous in every way! This is the only Sound of Music that anyone really ever needs...just my opinion.
I highly disagree. I would LOVE to see the REAL story. I know Japan got it closer with an anime, but I would love to see a movie based on the real story.
carfreelori
I didn’t even bother with the new one
I believe the movie was actually based on a German film Die Trappe Family.
yooneeque1 i have no idea what that movie is, but the sound of music is based off of the real von trap family that existed
One of my favorite parts of the movie. I did the name introduction/marching part for my students & they had no clue what movie I was imitating.
They will someday. I didn't see this movie until I was 22 years old in the year 1980.
I loved it right away.

I have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t love this movie (except maybe Hollywood since they tried to redo it)
@@matthew8153 Sadly, many are so hardened and numbed and ahrimanic that they want everything to be realistic, as it is, not idealistic, nostalgic etc.
2:34 (Captain Von Trapp): "Fraulein....were you _this_ much trouble at the Abbey?"
(Maria): "Oh _much _*_more,_* sir" 😂🤣
Aloha everyone that were responsible for this fabulous movie including the entire musical cast !!!! I love "The Sound of Music." I have watched this movie
over 58 times plus !!!! And because of you all~~~the joy, heartaches, laughter, beautiful natural beauty and political challenges portrayed~~~~ made me
so captivated !!!!
That was no "nun sect". You can't call the Christian Catholic Church a sect.
10 years for this video, happy anniversary for this video! 🎉
"were you this much trouble at the Abby?" "Oh much more sir". 😅
Anne Davis hello 👋
How are you doing
How beautiful was/is Julie! Look at her face, perfection!
LOL!
I love Christopher Plumber and I ESPECIALLY love Julie Andrews!
His name is spelled Plummer.
I was 6 when I saw this movie, when it was first released, and fell in love with Christopher Plummer. I thought he was so beautifful, such a presence.
this warms my heart and reminds me instantly of my childhood. 💙
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES!!! And the fact that it's based on a true story makes it more inspiring!!! I had to buy the movie!!! Each character played their part with excellence!!!AND I LOVED IT!!!🤗 Two of my favorite scenes is when he dances with her and then when they first get acquainted out!💝🙏😇
To me, this was the funniest scene in the whole movie & so pivotal in showing their characters' personalities!
Christopher Plummer: December 13, 1929-February, 2021
RIP Christopher Plummer
Rip captain of 7 children
I love this Christopher Plummer so very handsome in this movie.

Parakeet 8157 hello 👋
How are you doing
Christopher Plummer you will be missed 💐 Rest In Peace 🕊️
omg!! thank you!! this is my favorite scene; without me grabbing the DVD, and putting it in, of course, haha
in the real sound of music maria was the stern one and the captain was the soft one..
I find that extremely hard to believe
Is thThis is the real one.
I own this movie on DVD. As a kid i used to watch it on video tape over and over, with my sister! It STILL remains a classic
😂😂.
My favourite film of all times. I watched it start to end 3 times yesterday!!!
