The mother-daughter tension between Emily and Lorelai was the most underrated aspects of the show. They love each other but don't know how to be in each other's lives. It's so well scripted and acted!
The funny thing is we always said that Rory got her sarcasm for Lorelei, but never gave the credit to Emily. She would go toe to tor with Lorelei that's why we love their scenes together.

It could be the worst film or tv show in the world and the actor still receives an Emmy nomination for their performance. B/ you just mentioned two very random things about the revival that are your own opinion. Rory acting like a ‘brat’ was just the same Rory from the OG series just a bit older. Rory always got what she wanted. C/ the musical was 10 minutes too long in my opinion, but was also part of the weakest episode from the 4. All and All Kelly Bishop’s performance was outstanding and deserved award nominations at least!

THIS! As a kid and a teen I sided with Lorelai but as an adult, all i think is “what’s Lorelai a problem? Her mom is only trying to help on most of the scenes.” She did cross a line a few
Times (inviting Chris to her vow renewal and saying disparaging things about the men Rory and lorelai dated. But other than that, she was spot on with so many things. Even trying to buy Lor and Luke a house after Lor complained the whole day about helping her run errands after her eye surgery

1. At the mall losing her mind shopping and at the food court
2. Her bargaining with Lanes mom at the antique store
3. Getting a DUI and having more Lorelai pick her up also in the same type of scene having eye surgery and having Lorelai pick her up.
4. Her complete and utter despair coming in from a date(after being completely charming and put together throughout it) when she really realized that she doesn’t want to be on a date she wants Richard back

Same! I watched it first when I was Rory's age and then again when I was Lorelai's. It was a completely different show for me. I related to both of them in different stages of my life.

Agreed. They ruin the other two Gilmore girls stories especially Rory. She was a mess. It was disappointing. I've watched the original Gilmore girls series many many times but only watched the reunion once because it was so poorly written.
@@bpgk2007 Nooo, you need to try it one more time. I did the same thing, I only watched it once and was disappointed. Then I rewatched it recently, the whole series, and it actually makes sense when you watch the revival a second time.

I honestly can’t. I’m in 9th grade now and I’ve watched at least 1 episode a day every day since 4th grade. The show is such a constant in my life. The only exception to that is that I sometimes skip season six because that one season for me isn’t the same when Lorelei and Rory aren’t talking

@@OzmaOfOzz Rory as a character is already perfected in season 3. There's really no much character development after season 3. Season 5 Rory is awful, the revival Rory is just as bad if only not worse. God I miss the young and vibrant Rory they presented us in the first 3 seasons.
Yes, i already lost all respect for Rory when she hooked up with married Dean. Then improved when she was with Logan. But to see the bright young girl be such a hot mess in the revival (forgetting her boyfriends name all the time, hooking up with an engaged Logan as if she hasn’t learned her lesson about getting with already committed men, and not even being able to find underwear) I was like... My favourite Emily moment is nearer the start of the series when everyone is arguing over Lorelai (over getting pregnant at 16, over her keeping the baby but refusing to get married, etc.). Emily finds Rory in the kitchen and reassures Rory that no matter what, she is loved and valued and she is NOT a mistake... That scene always warms my heart 🥰🥰
Yes. In that society sometimes children be in out of wedlock are treated as shameful. Why she was harsh on Lorlie for her choices at no point did she act like Rory herself was an embarrassment.
She always wanted to help her and have a relationship. She always wanted one with Lorlie too even if she went about it in the wrong way at times.
Emily Gilmore was such a hoot! You could easily see where Lorelai got her sense of humor.
Also, seeing her wearing jeans in the revival was GOLD!

I'm a man in my 30s and I recently watched an episode on Netlfix and ended up watching the whole series.
The reason I stayed: the relationships are so REAL. Two side to the story every time so every character is relatable.

Can we all talk about how Kelly lost her TV husband Edward Herrmann (Richard) in 2016 and has made sure to mention him in every cast reunion. And then just recently she lost her real life husband of 37 years Lee Leonard in 2018? She lost these two important people in 2 years time :(. I hope she’s living what Emily Gilmore is living out on the island during the revival. Self healing and love and finding new passions for hobbies. I hope she feels fulfilled and loved and loves others... not at all ever alone. I feel for her so much. We love you Kelly!

I’ve gone dark on social media till after the election. I decided to rewatch all seasons and additional 4 reboots again to maintain some sanity. I’m sure many do the same but this is my 9th round and I just finished my 8th only a week ago. Stars Hollow is my happy place.

I VERY much agree. This is my happy place too. Sometimes I get to the end and I say, "I'm done -- no more." Then a few days later I'm back. I really like the episode, "Love, War and Snow" from the first season. My daughter got married last year and her mother-in-law has not seen Gilmore Girls (?!!). So, I am starting to introduce the "Girls" to her.
I also remember this show as something my daughter watched. Then, when it was on in re-runs we would watch it together after school while I made dinner. My mother had died and I needed a pick-me-up. By watching this it seemed as though she was still with us.
My favourite thing about Gilmore Girls is that I can watch it over and over, it literally never gets boring. I find more things every single time.

I read a lot of the posts and add my two cents. I have rewatched Gilmore Girls to block out all the negative going on in the world. It’s such a pleasant show to watch. No reality crap, no cursing, no hate. I’m not saying the characters are perfect but it’s decent people.
Nobody is perfect and that’s what makes life special

i agree though about how there arent "bad" people in the show. everyoen's just ttrying to make it and i loved the character development in the show which made it so wholesome to me. For example, when you see Taylor when he knows he's about to lose the election and there's that shot of Lorelai seeing him sitting alone in his shop and the lights are dim. It's things liek that that show you such vulnerable sides of characters you may not have thought much about otherwise.

She is literally a replica of my grandmother down to her voice, attitude, character, sharpness, wittiness and strive for nothing but excellence and no matter what issues she has with her daughter never lets that get in the way for the love of her grandmother. I miss her so much and this show brought her alive again for me

I watched this show because of my FIL... if not for men watching it, I'd never have started when I did (if ever). First I teased him that it was just because Lauren was gorgeous, but he was VERY insistent that this wasn't it. My husband started to listen while I was watching and he also got hooked. After it ended, for our next anniversary, he bought me (us) the boxed collection of DVDs. ❤️
My dad’s parents (who couldn’t afford to travel for the wedding) called him the night before he married my mom asking him to to go through with it.
They’ve been married 55 years. I think he made the right choice.

This is one of the best series ever written. I didn’t discover it until 2016, but it has been my refuge the last few years. It always makes me feel great and like Kelly says, it is all about what the world can be again. Everyone was perfectly cast in this show.

Wow! I can totally to relate when she said men and women come back from overseas and they need to escape by watching Gilmore Girls. I did the same exact thing a few weeks ago, with everything going on in the world these days I needed to go back to a good place. This is my third time watching the entire season and I needed the escape to a safe place. Thank you to all the people involved in this show.

I love this show! And I love watching it with my daughters and using it in our homeschool, it really is smart and full of great references. My daughter just finished The Outsiders and picked up the Ponyboy reference and I couldn't be prouder 😂

Thank you for posting this:) It is absolutely true that Gilmore Girls has an inate decency about it. It truly is my go to show when I am feeling bummed out about something. I always feel better after watching it and Kelly hit the nail on the head with what she said it being inately decent.
My favorite Emily moment was when she was modeling with Lorelei in the PTA fashion show. It was the first time we saw Emily actually delighted, laughing, and enjoying time with her daughter, all the while “Girls Just Want to have Fun” is playing. So sweet!
