I'm pushing 80 and. as a Los Angelino, my extensive hiking has been in the Eastern Sierra. I discovered the Ruby Mountains rather late in life. While I still mark the Sierras as #1, a very close second is the Ruby range. This is the very best of your many excellent videos. I just wish my old frame could negotiate that "class 4" stuff. Oh to be you! Press on young man, you are a continuing inspiration to many of us armchair viewers. Thank you and God Bless.

Been waiting for this one for a while. One of my all time favorite places. Backpacked the Ruby Crest Trail out and back last year. They just recently had nine different landslides that closed the scenic drive around 2 miles in. The road is severely damaged and campers had to be evacuated. Just sharing in case anyone is thinking of going up there after this was posted, check ahead of time because access may still be blocked (mid August).

I backpacked the Ruby Crest Trail last year. I chose the location back in 2015, as the area showed on a dark skies map. Our time at Overland Lake, which included swimming in the lake and watching the Milky Way, was one of my favorite nights of backpacking ever. When I arrived there, Lamoille Canyon Road was closed, blocked by a newly installed gate. There had been nine landslides following severe storms, and I don't think there are any new updates at to when the road will be re-opened. My dream was crushed! I think many, when they think of Nevada, think of Vegas and Reno, but this state has so much more to offer. I hardly ever go to Vegas, but I do go to the desert often. I love camping. When I want to get away from it all, I'll head to the Basin and Range National Monument near Hiko and just get lost. I've been there and never seen another soul the whole time I spent there. It looked so different than the classic Utah arch made with smoother carved stone with those rose and light beige layers. On your mention of great Nevada natural areas, I love Red Rock Canyon. For beauty, it definitely evokes a stop-and-stare reaction from me in so many parts.

Tristan, at the beginning of this trip to the Ruby Mtns when you said you thought they might be the most beautiful place in Nevada, I thought, “Oh!!! He hasn’t been to Jarbidge yet !!!”…., I LOVE Jarbidge!!!! My Uncle Don Mathias, was a Geologist and he did his Thesis on the Jarbidge Range and surrounding area…. He & my Aunt owned a cabin in Jarbidge and spent their Summers there for many years, as he was a High School teacher later in his career….Jarbidge is in a remarkable canyon and it is very beautiful as well as the surrounding areas, especially on top of Jarbidge mtn… a beautiful meadow full of wildflowers, and depending on the time of year you may be there, you might also encounter a Sheepherder and his sheep!!!! I always thought the Jarbidge Wilderness area was the most beautiful place in Nevada until I saw this video!!!! They are a tie for First place in my book…. I do think you need to visit there SOON or it may not be accessible soon, depending on the weather patterns..
I love going with you on your adventures!!!!! Thank you!!!!!

I love how you preceded the video saying you're tired and then hike parts of the mountain TWICE to get the far off shots of yourself. 🤣 Man... A+ on this one. Looks like a fantastic hike for those brave enough to do it without vertigo. 👍

Jeez...you kill me, you make this crazy stuff look effortless..beautiful place indeed. I've almost given up trying to rate the top places...they are all so spectacular and magnificent, and the criteria so subjective to mercurial things like your mood or weather or physical status at time of visit.
My favorite place to this point has been Greater Yellowstone....I can't really separate the Tetons, Beartooth, Absarokas, Wind Rivers, Gros Ventre and Yellowstone in my mind, to me they are just one giant slice of heaven.

I've been in that area but on the east side of the mountains. We got there from Elko. Nice camping and a short hike to a pretty lake.

The Rubies are absolutely stunning, but the most beautiful place in Nevada is Valley of Fire. In fact, it's literally my favorite place in the world. You'd really love hiking up to Top of the World Arch, or across Fault Mesa, down through the Drop Slot into the Wilderness Pinnacles. And underrated Nevada has many, many more spectacular places off the well-trodden track.

Your videos never disappoint me. Seriously. I wasn't aware that Nevada has such beauty! Certainly have placed it on my must explore list further up in priorities! I plan on putting my membership in Adventure Know How to use starting in Sept. Do some more Blue Lining...but with better info!
Outstanding, Tristan. Just mind blowing view thru that keyhole...whew.

Great climb and views and another great video I really, really enjoyed. Did you see any of the Himalayan Snowcocks during your hike in the Ruby Mtns? Neat birds. Anyway, I'm kind of partial to the Jarbidge Mountains and am curious about a peak named the Matterhorn which is the highest point of the Jarbidge Mountains. I'm not a climber but would sure like to see a video of the Jarbidge Mountains and the Matterhorn...

Tristan, Lamoille Canyon is a great destination - a beautiful place. But there is another aspect to Lamoille Canyon that is less obvious.
And that is that Lamoille Canyon is transformed during fall color season. We visited Lamoille Canyon at the very beginning of October and we were probably about 5 days beyond the absolute peak in fall color. Nonetheless that fall color made the canyon simply fantastic with LOTS of yellow, orange and red all over. Unforgettable. Go there during this seasonal period - you will not regret it

Google informs me that these mountains were formed during continental extension when a detachment fault drags ductilely deformed middle and lower continental crust up exposed as upper continental crust extends. No glacial action involved.
Beautiful area and a nice video with great views. Thanks!

What a great climb! I even felt a bit queasy watching your accent. I’m hoping to take that scenic drive after Labor Day and do some hiking in that area. I see that some of the road is now closed due to damage from recent slides. Hopefully it will be open by then. Did you camp in the area? Thanks for the great video!!!

I agree it's probably the most beautiful place in Nevada. That opening shot there doesn't even look like Nevada. It looks more like Colorado or Montana. But once you got up on top, it definitely looks like Nevada. That was a nice climb. ⛰😎👍☮️
