@BC Bob misery is subjective, what this quote means is to expand your personal imaginary-mental limitations. For example if you are afraid of public speaking, seek public speaking until your brain understands it won't kill you... well unless you are in a situation which could kill you like a dictatorship or something like that. But why is dead so bad? Yesterday I read a really interesting quote whom I don't remember the author: "In the world, there are many people who by dying do not lose anything and neither does the world."
Which I believe to be totally false. Firstly he world would lose a genetic code of millions and millions of earth years, and even though that individual could be "nothing", he can still make great things and become "the one and only".

Easier said than done, when you’re young and want an adventure nothing really bothers. The hardest men have been broken by reality, missing their children, or wife. Realizing that you’re risking everything for almost nothing in return. Falling right into the hands of the military industrial complex. Yeah you were a badass at some point... maybe. But when the wars over what do you have besides some dead friends, a couple war stories and an anger problem.

@@Twizzzums Your right the hardest men have been broken by reality, but they aren’t “hard” until they take those broken pieces and put them back together countless times. And when the war is over I think you fail to realize that the feeling knowing that you went out and did what most can’t and never will must be one of the greatest feelings ever. Your mind is weak

Surviving the military (U.S Navy) is still one of my greatest accomplishments today.
I had to overcome a lot of mental demons, low self esteem and lose 60 pounds in 6 months to join the military after never working out in my entire life.
To get through it all with DEP and Active Duty was a 4.5 year process.
    Glad I got through it.

No pressure, however, for anyone interested, there's a variety of "Seek Discomfort" short and long sleeve shirts and hoodies available at seekdiscomfort . com. and even on Amazon. I hope you all take his advice on learning to be comfortable, being uncomfortable. It really can completely change your life.

People think it is difficult to develop the mindset of a Navy SEAL but it is quite a simple process. It just takes a lot of effort to implement it.
Being committed comes down to your sense of purpose and personal why. Both of these are mutually supportive and a derivative of your values, your belief system, and identifying what and who you are committed to and how far you are willing to go.
Next is understanding the relationship between motivation and discipline and how to leverage both.

The best thing you can do is to go down to your local recruiting office and make contact with them - they know you wont be able to enlist for a couple years but they will be help to let you PT with them. ROTC is also good if you are just starting high school man. If you spend the next 4 years committed to your goal and you get comfortable in the water you will have the best chance of success. Good luck bro.

I’d like to disagree with most of the comments here and argue that persevering not matter what does not make sense. We can’t just will success into being because success is not solely dependent on us. It is a fantasy to believe that if only we try hard enough, crawl through enough barbed wire, and endure enough sand in our clothes that we will ultimately succeed. Sometimes, “quitting” is absolutely the right move. As much as the speaker would like us to think there are easy answers, there aren’t. Wisdom is knowing the difference between when to persevere and when to give up. I do like the MLK quotation though. I interpret it to mean that when we feel inadequate, pathetic, or otherwise useless, just doing something is better than doing nothing. Even just crawling a little toward your goal is worth something. It’s better than just lying there! That’s how I think we should view the speaker’s message.
