I know this video is over 2 years old but was the opening of this video filmed at ditto landing? I'm from the rocket city but moved to California 6 years ago and seeing south side Walmart and the rest of the parkway made my day
I'd take reliability and power over comfort any day. Comfortable cars are boring. I want raw no bs power and the viper is the perfect candidate. Some day I'll own one🙏.
I had a gen 2 Viper and I traded it in and got a gen 5 GTS Viper. I've heard all these complaints. I'm 6 foot 1 inch tall and admittedly the cockpit is small but I have plenty of head room and my vision isn't obstructed. My build is very athletic, like most professional drivers. The Viper is a true sports car and it is meant to feel that way. NASCAR, F1, Rally and other professional drivers don't have beer guts. This car is what Carroll Shelby envisioned. A big engine in a light weight chassis comfort be damn. If you understand that and Shelby you'll love the car.
I completely agree! I think the average car enthusiast gets so used to modern, comfortable, sport/exotics that they forget the intent behind the car! It would be like complaining that a lotus has quality control issues... small production and hand built, it’s gonna have issues haha
It's fast enough. I get a Viper for style and to make a statement. A base is perfect honestly. I don't need all the other shit. It's one of the last beasts with a stick shift and it looks menacing!
All highly valid points. Having owned my GEN II GTS for roughly 6 years now, I would add that when people ask "What is it like to drive a Viper? What does the Viper compare to?"... Driving a Viper is like driving a Viper, I've yet to find anything that it is even remotely similar to.
Nice assessment. I"m going on three years with my G5 and absolutely love it. The value has gone through the roof since my purchase. Not selling though.
Haven’t been in a viper in a long time. Good content. It’s nice watching some local guys post some good videos. Enjoyed cruising up to Nashville with y’all this past Saturday. Beautiful car.
Everything about the Viper makes me want to buy it. Car is sick i shoulda bought one 2 years ago. Its iether Gen 5 Viper, C7 ZR1 manual, C6 ZR1, AMG GT R or 911 GT3. I thought about trading my 14 Z/28 but its too good to let go. This one is special and im keeping and it adding on to the collection. We are going to be seeing less and less of cars like these. Hold on to them. Viper T/A 🤤🤤🤤
0:32 720s I seeeee! I love the cinematic stuff you did at the beginning! If you need or want more shots sometime let me know! I'd love to film your viper sometime. Maybeee when it's done with... the thing
This was a great video. I have heard both sides of the coin about these cars. Some would argue that the interior is cramped and gets hot, and that the side exhausts are a nuisance, especially if exhaust modifications have been done making the exhaust louder. I've heard some say that it is a terrible several hour road trip, car as well. I, however, do not think that the drivability of the car can be that different from other cars produced from 2013-2017. I have seen former Viper owners claiming they traded their Vipers for a "Vette, usually a Z06 or ZR1, because they are better "daily drivers", and "easier" to achieve quick lap times in. I, never having owned any Viper or 'Vette, would have to say that I do not think either one would be suitable for daily driving. Also, I think Dodge "mostly" remedied the hot cabin issues by this generation. From what I know the Viper, especially the Gen V, has a versatile motor, one that can hold up to modest boosting stock, and extreme stroking, up to 9.0L. The Viper quirks are easily remedied. Aftermarket heat shields keep the cabin absolute cool, there is a company that actually does an entire heat shield job, the hood, exhaust, firewall, etcetera. There are aftermarket resonator equipped exhaust systems that can "quiet" the Viper. Now let's talk about performance upgrades. The 8.4l V10 pushrod has excellent potential. Calvo Motorsports has a head and cam package that pushes 700 horsepower "to the wheels" and is emissions compliant, but I am not sure if it is C.A.R.B compliant. Their 9.0L stroker provides right at 800 horsepower to the wheels. There is not another naturally aspirated emissions compliant motor in the world producing those numbers, not even the Ferrari 812 Superfast. The transmission, the versatile TR6060 can be upgraded with minimal costs, to withstand the gobs of power aftermarket upgrades produce. In a nutshell, and I think this video illustrated this point, the Viper is a car that came from the factory with easy modification potential, it hosts a reliable pushrod designed motor, has an awesome tremec trans, looks menacing, and in maxed out natural aspirated form competes with the McLaren 720s, and is a MANUAL. Also, these cars are valuable. . .
I hate to tell you this,I was so enthralled with you driving and the handling of the car and let's not forget the looks, that I didn't hear a damn thing you said! But I gave you a thumbs and subscribe anyway!I love you and keep it up!
Thanks for the breakdown. Some good info here. I'm still waiting on some investments to pan out, but when they do, I've been looking around for Gen4/Gen5 Vipers. I'm probably still going to wait a bit for the inflation and car bubble to decompress before committing though. Good tip on the recall! I will definitely be looking that up.
If you buy a viper you should be financially able to, Gas, Tires, Oil, insurance are gonna hit hard. I know a few people the daily drive them and they love it but they are also in their low 20’s, and they spend an ungodly amount of money on that.
Great video. The only other difference between the GT base and other higher trims is that little cubby between the seats. The higher trims have the little clamshell cubby whereas the base has the netting like yours does.
Both are great performances and reliability wise. But at the end of the day I'd much rather be sitting in a viper. U see vettes on the road everyday but I haven't seen a viper in person for along time.
@@GolfInHawaii69 lmao. I love them both man. Vipers definitely turn more heads. But vettes are way cheaper to keep on the road and parts are much more readily available for them. You'll love the C6Z. It's a great car. Just make sure the LS7 heads have been fixed or that you get them fixed ;)
Must be nice bc I wish I had both of then OR either one and I would be happy. I would love to know the feeling of smiling every time I get into the driver seat and start MY work of art!! I love cars and unfortunately I can't afford anything i really want and just have to be thankful I have a car that gets me from point A to B (barely) but I ALWAYS dream of owning (and can pay 4 the upkeep) of a muscle car or building something from chassis up and making EVERY decision on what I want. That is my dream. I see I'm 3 yrs late on this video.
I think whether a person would desire to drive one would be dependent on numerous factors. Such factors: What type of driveway do you have? What are the conditions of the roads on your commute? What are the general driving conditions like on your commute in your area (weather, traffic, and speed limits [do you rarely get on a highway and deal with stop lights] etc.)? What is your stature? I think the fifth generation Viper is a "correct-conditions-grand-tourer-car" with daily driving potential under the correct driving conditions. I am 5'6" and do not need to drive a lot, the roads are decent, and in my area there is not much traffic, so something like the Viper would work for me. Addressing the tire issue, there are alternative tires that last more than 5,000 miles that provide grip on the streets for hooking.
I made it to the end I'm a new Watcher and I'm not even in a position to get one yet but I will someday thanks for the content and hopefully I can take advantage of that warranty if I do get one anytime soon thumbs up
I watched this video, not cause I am thinking about buying one(which to be fair, I've been dreaming of buying one since 92) or that I have one, it's more cause it's my dream care and the greatest car ever built. I'm more like charlie from charlie and the chocolate factory when he's just staring into the candy store. I know I'll never be able to afford one, but looking at them and watching them is a pleasure since it's the closest I'll get. Thanks for the awesome video. Oh, and if you play PC or PS5 let me know! Always looking for more gaming buddies, and to have one I could talk about vipers with would be amazing.
If this were not a feasible daily for me I would consider the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. AWD, outrageous stock performance and potential for more at low cost, room for 5, tows, and has plenty of luggage room. I could daily either two I believe.
i have a 14 gen v stryker gts red caramel Laguna leather interior with sub does sound sweet!the paint and interior is the paint 15,000 option i had a ceramic coat on it cost me 700 buks worth it n 5,000 interior option respectfully! I put in a arrow pcm runs sounds great! The car rides hard but alot of performance cars do!lat the time i checked the 355s are a grand each American!!oil changes aernt cheap!
I'm 6'2" and had to lower my seat 2" to feel right in the car. I have a short body too with long legs and I still felt my head was too high. The 2" drop made the seating position feel normal. (Edit: mine is a gen 2)
Sound deadening how much performance will really be lost just add the 50 to 75 lbs. Already and the refinement will be worth the quieter ride. The c5 Zo6 left out like 35 lbs. or so out not worth the road noise or performance gain.
That was my painful realization when I sat in my 1st viper as an adult. The car wasnt designed for tall people. I still want one but I've also been looking at what that motor could swap in that has room in the cabin. M6 v10, challengers, etc.

I've heard of some ppl having issues with that. I was lucky with my 13 when I bought it used in 2018. Mine expires in 2024 and have already used the warranty to replace the oil cooler lines.
Nice review, I have a 2019 GT350R and am considering adding a TA or a GTC TA 2.0 to the collection in a year or two. Have you driven a gt350r and if so how does it compare to this car? I feel like the shelby also offers a super raw experience.
I’ve only had seat time in a 2017 gt350 (non r) I will say they are not even close in terms of feeling. I think the steering input on the R is probably better, but the low end torque combined with the chassis on the viper is real experience.
I'm 6'1 and I can fit in a Viper and see well without any problems. I think the problem is you need to be fit to drive these kinds of sports cars. They are not really designed for bigger people. That cabin is too small for really tall or heavy people.
I would agree, that def helps! I'm 6'2 - 6'3 and its rough without a lowering kit. Everything else feels ok though, being able to adjust pedals and all of that helps so much!
Your comment starts out sounding like height isn't an issue if you're fit. I'm 6'2" and fit and had to drop my seat 2" to feel right in the car. I've had shorter people tell me the passenger seat feels like it sits too high.
Im just a few seconds into the video and iv always wanted a viper even though i know i probably never be able to afford one ,but go ahead and flush any dream of owning one down the toilet 😥
The tire issue he talks about is not that bad. I have had 2 Vipers and went years before needing tires. I didn't drive every day. I drove about 3500 miles per year.
I want to clarify with just highway driving it’s not that bad. It’s all in how you drive the car for sure! With aggressive spirited driving and soft compound you WILL chew through them.
You guys are lucky ..we don't have any Vipers here , Ferraris , lambos. Mustangs, Porsches. Gtrs yeah..but no Vipers. What could be cooler than a Viper ?
All sports cars coming out these days seem to have the exact same designs and look the same. They all have the exact same headlights and very similar curves and shapes. I could come up with a list that's a mile long with the number of cars that look like that Viper from a front 45 degree angle view (because of the shapes.)
You provided some useful information to would be viper owners but unfortunately it’s probably hit and miss about them hearing it, your audio sucks. Maybe try an external mic clipped on your shirt. I know the viper contributes to that problem, my audio for my go pro is better in the water proof case then without it when driving my viper because of the noise.
Yeah I want a Viper, only problem is I don't live in your country😔and to migrate there is like near impossible. Appreciate the video though. Very informative
I had a 2008 Viper as a daily driver which I hated, that car sucked, it had the build quality of a kit car, was loud (in a bad way), the rear end clunked, the engine vibrated horribly, the radio sucked, the wind noise was horrible, it was impossible and I sold it in 8 months. I later bought a brand new 2013 GTS Viper and the car was very livable, plus it was beautiful on the inside. I drove that car daily and put 36,000 miles on it. I am only 5'7" so I did not have the issues you have, the car fit me fine, the only issue was the seats and the way they recline, they recline about 6" on top of the bottom seat cushion which would screw up with my back a bit, and the offset to the left pedals have always been a bit uncomfortable on those cars.
if you're going for performance competition where every second counts, air shift/ppg/th400 would be ideal. I would never care to own an automated manual in this car, H pattern all the way!
Theres definetely track package. I think its even different from the T/A 1.0 and 2.0. Which takes it another level on top of that. Then you had thr GTC cars in later models which were very customizable with different kinda options and packages.
Hopefully I can get one like for every time i said "umm" in this video.... jeeeeeeez lmao
I know this video is over 2 years old but was the opening of this video filmed at ditto landing? I'm from the rocket city but moved to California 6 years ago and seeing south side Walmart and the rest of the parkway made my day
How’s your viper?
"It's really gonna suck to daily drive it"
Me: "I can't wait"

Very good points made is this video! Mods are insane price but, I so badly still want to mod 😂
Hello I am looking for a viper now! I am watching for the right price! I do think some of the prices people are wanting for them is to much! 😇
As a Gen V owner. Prices will continue to go up. Not made anymore and last true fun car with a manual.
oddily enough the tires last 10-12k in the G5 viper, lot of tire on a light car. My last set of rears lasted about 10k that was with a track weekend
"It's really gonna suck to daily drive it"....It is such a dream car of mine, I would let it kick me in the balls, just to daily it.
Now I'm stuck between a 14 srt and a 15 gt. Same exact miles, both have cf aero and sidewinder wheels. The cars are priced 10k apart
That was my painful realization when I sat in my 1st viper as an adult. The car wasnt designed for tall people. I still want one but I've also been looking at what that motor could swap in that has room in the cabin. M6 v10, challengers, etc.
how tall are you?
Great information, thank you
Great video!
I've bought 2 Gen V vipers and if the recall comes back clean on 13/14 cars they do not extend the warranty. The only thing that's 10yrs is emissions.
I know this vehicle has has the recalls done, and I have confirmed with dodge that it in fact carries the extended powertrain for 120months from warranty punch date
I'm assuming if they had ones that passed then they wouldn't ? But to my knowledge they performed the recalls on all affected (early vin) cars
I've heard of some ppl having issues with that. I was lucky with my 13 when I bought it used in 2018. Mine expires in 2024 and have already used the warranty to replace the oil cooler lines.
Is it worth spending the extra $ on gts vs say 2013 srt that has a track package? Is dual suspension on GTS too techy and may fail down the road?
Nice review, I have a 2019 GT350R and am considering adding a TA or a GTC TA 2.0 to the collection in a year or two. Have you driven a gt350r and if so how does it compare to this car? I feel like the shelby also offers a super raw experience.
I’ve only had seat time in a 2017 gt350 (non r)
I will say they are not even close in terms of feeling.

Where is the best place to look for cars like this?
Great video! I have a c7z. Looking to upgrade
c7z's are great cars! I test drove one before getting the viper, was solid!
You can make that C7Z stupid fast, and sounds mental as well. My two friends have modified Z06s and they're faster than liter sport bikes.
Hey what’s the difference between the 2013srt vs the 2014,2015 viper lookin to buy one soon
Biggest engine & lightest chassis.
- Carol Shelby
great video, thanks for the owner perspective. did you cross shop anything other than the c7z?
The tire issue he talks about is not that bad. I have had 2 Vipers and went years before needing tires. I didn't drive every day. I drove about 3500 miles per year.
I want to clarify with just highway driving it’s not that bad. It’s all in how you drive the car for sure!
With aggressive spirited driving and soft compound you WILL chew through them.
Would be nice if the younger folk would get into Vipers I feel like the only one.
I wasn't hooked until I rode in one, then it was all over.
the pricepoint keeps younger folks away.
I'm 35 and own a viper.. It's a Gen 1
In the works of purchasing a 2014 gts, the car has a small knick on the rear valance panel. Where can I source one?
After installing the seat lowering rail kit what sort of seat adjustability are you left with?
It removes the forward and back slide function. Still have the tilt and raising and lowering though.
It's the new supra. Calvo motorsports all the way
I one this car its pretty good
You guys are lucky ..we don't have any Vipers here , Ferraris , lambos. Mustangs, Porsches. Gtrs yeah..but no Vipers. What could be cooler than a Viper ?
And how’s it going? Can you sell it to me?
I can hardly hear you speak. 75% of sound is background noise.
You have an 8.4L V10…. Why do you need an upgraded sound system? 😂😂😂
The hood with vents, what models does it come with?
Its the SRT hood, the GTS hood is 2 vent. However, you *could* order a gts with the 6 vent hood, but it wasnt standard.
No GenV has a sub. The Harmon Kardon has 4 6x9 behind the seats instead of 2.
Are these cars marked up big from covid?
Its a combination of inflation, new car shortage, and the collectability of the ACR.
If I get a 5th gen would it be cool to dct or sequential swap it?
if you're going for performance competition where every second counts, air shift/ppg/th400 would be ideal.
I would never care to own an automated manual in this car, H pattern all the way!
@@RocketCityRides awesome now if only I could afford one lol. Would kill to do a N/A build 😫. I've seen some people get the motor to 9 liters
bring a 2015+ acr to norway, and let me ride shotgun! i will be sub/ patreon for life!
I wanna see an electric viper be made one day💪🙏💯
So I can't daily one of these 😪
Basically, born on the sheets, stubborn the streets, but score on the track.
Yes u can daily drive. This guy in the vid is a cry baby
Is this Colt-ty from 90 day fiance? 😱
There’s no such thing as a track pack LOL.
Not all 2013 & 2014 got the 10 year warranty.
You should google viper track package :)
And correct, only the affected cars did.
Lol @ Lotz..
The track package should consist of the 2-piece Stoptechs, sidewinder wheels, and Pirrelli Corsas.
Theres definetely track package. I think its even different from the T/A 1.0 and 2.0. Which takes it another level on top of that. Then you had thr GTC cars in later models which were very customizable with different kinda options and packages.
👀👀👀👀
WE BACK BABY LETS GOOOOOOOOO
What is your job? so I can afford on 😂
I work in I.T.
Great video I'm buying a viper lol
