The action on this DVD set is a result of many rail-fan trips by noted rail photographer Emery Gulash, although none of the trips were devoted exclusively to the Santa Fe railroad.
Emery captured enough 16mm color film to produce an incredible chronology of the Santa Fe covering a period of almost 30 years! From 1952 until 1980, Emery shot the Santa Fe from Chicago to the west.
This DVD set displays the Santa Fe FT freight units, the PA passenger power, and a variety of switchers and road trains. The 'Warbonnet' paint scheme and the change to the Santa Fe blue scheme is also covered in this chronology. There are a great number of incredible shots of the famous passenger fleet, interspersed with freights over a vast portion of the line.

just the name "Santa Fe" says power, glory, and majesty. I will always remember and love the grand old Santa Fe. May she rest in peace.
Exoress Delivers same bro.
Exoress Delivers still lives in as BN(SF)
Bnsf:am I a joke to you?
The Sante Fe was my Dad's employer for over 20 years. That big Red diesel engine was (to me) a work of art and power. I rode the train with Dad several dozens times from Oakland to Chicago. I miss those days and my Dad...feeling kind of nostalgic right now. Thanks for posting!
do you have any pictures of it
Heru Ammen Dude that's awesome!!
I always wanted to see the warbonnet stream liner
I bet you had fun😀
That is a very cool history if only i could have lived back in the days of the good old Aitison,Topekea,& Santa Fe.
The music adds a lot to this video. Bu even if this video was dead silent I would still love it. The plain and simple truth?? I love trains.
Music used to be on it...
I miss the days watching the big Chief's roll down the tracks in Roseland Chicago when i was a kid.
This to me is Americas glory days of pure monstrous power.. R.I.P. big Santa Fe..
Santa Fe all the way!
Does anyone else remember the old Santa Fe cartoon commercials in the 60s? The little Indian boy would say, “Santa Fe, all the way!”
Chico
Thank God I was born in the 1960's and experienced travelling Santa Fe as a young child.
THAT WAS MY ERA OF SANTA FE,
SEPT 1964, TO JAN 1995!
WORKING AT ARGENTINE SHOP
KC KS IN THE LOCOMOTIVE SHOP
I WAS OFTEN IN THE YARD!
MY FAVORITE FREIGHT POWER WAS THE ALCO RSD -15
800/9800 ALLIGATORS!
ONE SUMMER EVNING I GOT TO WITNESS A 10,000 HORSEPOWER LASH UP OF FOUR LEAVING
WESTBOUND AT TURNER DEPOT WITH ONE MILE OF FREIGHT!
AIR TEST COMPLETED , AND WITH THE BLESSING OF THE DISPATCHER THEY STEPPED OUT
IN NOTCH 1 AT IDLE SPEED
ON THE 16 CYLINDER 251.
THE ALCOS HAD A BIT OF A LUMPY IDLE AND WHEN NOTCH 1 WAS ENGAGED FROM IDLE,
THE ENGINE SPEED CHANGED VERY LITTLE!
THEY WERE HELD AT NOTCH ONE FOR ONE MILE AS THE REAR BRAKEMAN AND CONDUCTOR
HAD TO STEP ABOARD THE CABOOSE SAFELY.
ONCE ABOARD AND SETTLED THE CONDUCTOR GAVE THE "HIGHBALL!! " OVER THE RADIO!
IT WAS A QUIET STILL EVENING,
AND I COULD CLEARLY HEAR
THE ALCOS NOTCHING UP FURIOUSLY TO RUN 8 , QUICKLY, AND WATCHED THE CABOOSE
,DISAPPEARING WEST!!
DAMN!!! I WISH I HAD THIS CAMERA PHONE, THEN!!
PRICELESS!!
KEEP THEM ROLLING BROTHERS!!
👍👍

Best railroad ever
Music is great, so is the DVD, fun for all ages :)
Great stuff indeed! I was lucky enough to have ridden the combo Super Chief/El capitan from Chicago to Flagstaff. We had the best room on the train, a double bedroom with private facilities. I went with my grandfather and cousin. We couldn't sleep so my cousin and I roamed the entire train all night. Almost got left behind in La Junta when we got off and the train nearly left without us. Grampa was quite angry..... :-D
Thanks to the Frog we can enjoy the best road in 1080p!
I have this whole series of the Santa Fe rail road on DVD. Great video
Many times I watched the Santa Fe trains pass by my house in West Texas. And now BNSF the company I work for ships many of its trailers by rail. It is cheaper to do this than pay a trucker to drive that load.
Love the warbonnets action!
Ship and travel Santa Fe all the way!
Indeed this music is great.
Yes it is it’s by Brian Bennett- megapower
Have both Vol-1 and 2 wonderful videos.
Back when you could enjoy a trip riding the train 🚂🛤️
A million thank yous to whom ever took their time to share this awesome history lesson / video with the rest of us.. Fantastic .. I learned something I never knew before watching this video too. The Blue and yellow long nose SanteFe engines were referred to as Alligators.. I recived ah very nice Ho scale train for Christmas 1968 and the engin was an SatnaFe Aligator.. I still have it.
Bernalillo NM last month a 14 yr old was walking near tricks with earbuds listening to tunes when a train snagged him. Now the 'Progressives' in the town are insisting a fence be put up through town. You said it right, when you said 'Bubble Wrap'. As kids, I and friends played all day on the tracks. Night walks home on the glistening rails with the signal lights reflecting the ribbon of steel for miles, was eery but exciting. The hobos were interesting. They always liked our Cap Guns, lol
miss them old trains
Hello from Kansas 🇺🇸
I love the FP45 SDP40F and SDF40-2
Amazing love the music
Trainman 2003 same here I wonder if they have a soundtrack for this
All I know at the moment is that it's apparently from the Bruton music library but I don't what the music track itself is called.
The song itself is called Megapower
¡ Que extraordinario documento !. Muchas gracias.
Precious footage.
very kool thank you
Nice video. The Santa Fe is the ALL AMERICAN railroad !!! Wish i could hear a real quartet of F units pulling the Super Chief or 3 Alco PA's pulling a mail train or 3 GP-20's working a merchandise frieght thru the countryside.
My Grandfather was a Santa Fe agent during the 30-s and 40’s. He worked the division between Dodge City and La Junta CO and I grew up in Syracuse Ks. I hate that the Harvey house in Syracuse was torn down in the 70=s. It was one of the finest examples of southwest architecture and a huge loss to rail history.
Wow. Early Amtrak livery. Also, I like how the Santa Fe had two liveries here. It was the red, gold, and silver Warbonnet scheme for the passenger diesels, like the EMD F-units and the ALCO PAs. Then all the freight hood diesels like those Aligators, have the blue and yellow. It reminds me of a British railway in the steam age, where the express engines had colors and the freight engines and switchers (or shunters over there) were plain black. It's a bit ironic too. When this and Santa Fe Odyssey 2 were filmed, Britain had most of it's diesels painted in a blue color. Meanwhile, almost all of the steamers over here, even some of the express engines were painted black with the railway's name on the tender.
I should make a comparison list...
SEABOARD COAST LINE PRODUCTIONS That's a no-brainer. The smallest engines over there were tank engines with a tractive effort of just barely 10,000 lbs, and it's largest engines were garrats. Over here, the smallest engines were probably four-wheeled switchers with slopeback tenders, and the largest was of course the Big Boys.
Not the T1s! Sorry, this is just a pet peeve as that's my favorite US steamer, but none of the duplexes were articulated. The two sets of cylinders were on a single frame. And as much as I love the Pennsy's Broadway Limited, the LMS's Coronation Scot looks so much better.
SEABOARD COAST LINE PRODUCTIONS Eh... I actually prefer the sharknose look of the T1s to the streamlining on the Coronations. Not a windsplitter, and not bulletnose. It's a perfect balance. But yeah, the T1s had too much wheelslip. I canonly hope 5550 gets wheelslip control like the Q2s.
Thank you Greenfrog, added to a playlist...
Nice !
The Santa Fe, the Rio Grande, Erie Lackawanna & Delaware & Hudson railroads had the very best looking pre Amtrak locomotives that pulled their passenger trains. My favorite railroads were always the Santa Fe, Great Northern(later Burlington Northern) Rio Grande, Erie Lackawanna(I nicknamed it the Santa Fe of the East), Delaware & Hudson and the Lehigh Valley where 6 members of my family worked.
Excellent! Super chief, El Capitan all the chiefs and Chico! thank you
I have all 3 volumes and let me assure you you wont be disappointed buy em.
Beautiful train
Beautiful
The Flying Switch was amazeing some real "COWBOY" style railroading OLD SCHOOL"!!!
Man, Joliet looks not much different back then, the only thing changed is the signals.
And a smaller diamond…😉😀
Love the PA's!
Is it just me, or does anyone else think the 'flying switch' took some balls to pull off?
drosera88 .....what is that?
@@alcopower5710 what is what?
@@moisesm9602 "The Flying Switch" describes a very risky way of placing cars away on separate trackage by speeding up the engine, disconnecting the car behind it, and switching tracks as soon as the engine passes but before the car comes in.
@@alcopower5710 The Flying Switch risky form of switching that of placing cars in separate tracks from the engine that involves speed. The Engine pulls the car and builds up speed before disconnecting it, flying pass the switch before it needs to switch for the car to be put away.
My dad loves Santa fe
The track is called Megapower.
I still have this on All Aboard.
The ATSF Railroad is in good hands with BNSF. imo.
The song is Megapower by Brian Bennett
Is it wrong that I’m watching this while running my new Bachman Santa Fe set?
i love the music!
It’s by Brian Bennett- megapower
Old films of trains are always great to see, and I've been a huge Super Chief fan ever since I saw it pull in to the depot in Joliet, Illinois, in 1959. The only sad thing about these films is that, I'm guessing, film was expensive, so it seems as if very few if any shots in this film are longer than about 5 seconds. Now, with digital video, your wallet isn't left smoking if you hold the shot until the whole train passes. The telephoto lenses are generally a lot better now, too. It would be great to see the whole Super Chief pass by on film, instead of just the engines and a few cars. I'm sure longer shots of those beautiful fluted-side passenger cars must exist somewhere. Just frustrating that I couldn't find any in this otherwise really great production.
Is there any video at Dallas Union Station? I learned that Santa Fe stopped service to Dallas Union Station in 1968 but continued to serve Fort Worth, Why would they want Fort Worth only and not Dallas? Dallas Union Station is huge!
I like the Santa fe railroad
9:48 That's where the E-bells got their tone from.
Most likely due to the slightly low bitrate we used to create the TH-cam clip.
Could also be some of the TH-cam processing added to that.

This railing and the others that were out there. Provided a much neede service to All Americans. Not that sometimes we all don't like to drive, we could be saving all kinds of fuel when you think of how many people say Chicago to Las Vegas you can get on a train compared to car drive even to jet out there. The ratio of fuel is savings on the train. Plus employment of good paying jobs our infrastructure today is depleted from the 50s and 60s. And now a very less train infrastructure. Its a shame when you think of how taxes are dwindled away on hot air projects.
I like when that train when fast
0:50, That Warbonnet Is Flying, You don't get trains going that fast here in Aus
HI KITTY
I SIT IN MY RESTAURANT SEAT
THAT IS NEXT TO THE SANTA FE TRANSCON LINE!
I REMEMBER THE VERY EARLY MORNINGS WHEN I WAS IN A EAST BOUND PASSENGER LOCOMOTIVE
CAB ,RUNNING ON THE EDGE OF 100 MPH, 60 FEET FROM WHERE I SIT!!
This would be a great video to see - but I no longer have a DVD/Blu-Ray/CD player - please, please can we have these videos to stream through - say - Vimeo? Really happy to buy a full price licence for the content!

Great
This is a fantastic program. Wonderful. Highly recommend it. Are you going to remaster in Blu-ray "The Best of Passenger Trains of the 50's and 60's -The West"? That would be deserved.
iceeking2006 We do plan to eventually Remaster all of our films to HD.

GreenFrogVideos Hi.....I know it was both Truman and Eisenhower who wanted to get the country moving again after the war. Eisenhower especially. He was the one who encouraged (strongly) congress to approve funds for a US Interstate Highway system. He modeled after the autobahns system in Germany. But what did he or any other president do to help the railroads grow? I would really like to know. If anybody has nay input or information I would like to see it. Thanks
MrPhil0267 Trump wants to defund all long distance Amtrak trains, so definetly not him.
Now on the Nintendo Switch.
Villager of SmashVille Well there could be a train simulator game.... down the line
Too soon?
ShinyArceusGames50 nope your golden😂
Sorry, but there is no MP3 link to the music.

Gentlemen, I've been searching a music with the grandiosity this one has.
Can you be kind to send me its name or performers.
Thank you in advance for your good-will and cooperation.
Congratulations for the superb quality your productions have.
This is beautiful! Awesome trains, Santa Fe was fantastic...
Btw, anyone knows what type of units are:
- the warbonnet at 1:09
- the bluebonnets from 2:56 to 3:01?
They're gorgeous. Thanks.
F7 right
Michael Borowski
Thank you Michael!
Actually, they are ALCO PA units... sorry for such a late reply, I know you probably won't see this.
¿HAY ALGÚN MUSEO DONDE ESTEN ESTAS LOCOMOTORAS O EN ALGUNA PARTE DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS?
These trains continue to operate and that is what transports today?
cine independiente There are much more efficient diesels now, F7s are only used for heritage stuff now. Santa Fe merged with Burlington Northern in the early 2000s to form BNSF. The only railroad passenger train left is Amtrak.
But is there Southern Pacific Odyssey?
I Gave Up 17.576 Seconds Ago hey I know u! Ur from Ham49s F40PH Friday tribute video! And no, there is no SP odyssey that I know of.
what happens with the background music??
They don't go that fast here in the middle GA area anymore either.
What is the song used in this beautiful video?
Brian Bennett - Megapower

This is good stuff. The music is a bit annoying, and it is too loud compared to the narration. If I turned the volume down because of the music, then it was hard to hear the narrator.
@ 6:00 mins that Santa Fe burnt off after waiting for the alco
what is the name of this song
Michael Powell Brian Bennett - Megapower.

which amtrak trains are at 00:57
Trainz and NS fan I believe those are the Southwest Chief's, it couldnt have been the California Zephyr, because it would have DRGW and CB&Q stuff, and not the Empire Builder because It would have GN stuff to it. So it has to be the SW Cheif, since it was on ATSF trackage too.
Thank you!
why with the music? ruins the first part of the video
Steve R no it does not! I find it does a really good job at fitting in the video
Umm the video is corrupt there is no sounds
No it’s not corrupted, they just had a copy right strike due to the use of megapower in the intro
Oh..
Rozeena Jamil you can watch the original video with the music here! vimeo.com/ondemand/santafeodysseyvolume1
The visibility from the PA-1 cab seems terrible. Yard work, out of the question. No wonder they had a short life.
Mmm so much smoke. Of course now the environmentalists would freak out over such a thing.
