    The 60s were the pinnacle of Union Pacific's operations. Other railroads too, but this one was just the best.

      The 1940s and 1950s. The 1960s were horrible times for the railroad industry. Union Pacific was in horrid financial shape, as well as the entire US Railroad Industry.
      The reason why only 8 Big Boys and 2 Challengers were saved is because UP couldn't afford to save more of them. They tried to save 12 of each by 1962.

    As a child, my father worked for "the railroad". I assume it was UP because we lived in Chicago at the time, and we would take annual trips on The City of Los Angeles to visit family out in California. As he was an employee, we could afford first class accommodations. Even as a kid, I sensed the terrific service, great food and beautiful scenery we traveled through. I would sit for hours up in the dome car, in the most forward seat, where you could view straight ahead, and pretend I was an engineer! The COLA was one of the greats. This made me lifelong rail fan. Never became an engineer though.

    Quick question: What happened to the original orchestra music heard for the first 19 seconds? It really fit the bill and was honestly the perfect match for Emery's shots whereas this new music that cuts in at the 20 second mark is just an odd replacement that's just a tad to loud, or at least to me it is.

    • @russellgxy2905
      @russellgxy2905 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I know what you're asking, and the answer to both questions is yes. 844 was never retired by UP, but since diesels were the main power by 1960, a diesel had taken the number 844, so the FEF-3 was renumbered to 8444. And since regular steam on Class Is was over by the end of 1960, the then 8444 was indeed pulling an excursion. It would've been cool if it were an actual passenger train though. She were built for fast passenger and mail trains, and Amtrak hadn't been conceived yet. Also, am I the only one who wants to see 844 in Armour Yellow?

    "Upconverted" - What is hell does that mean? Does it equate to upgraded? Or is it a made-up word to seem more impressive than it really is?. Why don't people use plain English instead of trying to flummox everyone with buzz words.

    • @GreenFrogVideos
      @GreenFrogVideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just like we mention, this footage had been up-converted to High Definition resolution from standard definition resolution, in other words, basically from 480 lines to 1080 lines of resolution, plus the footage has been remastered scene by scene with better color correction, sharpness, brightness and color saturation! The difference between what we have now and what the footage was before is a very noticeable upgrade!

    • @organbuilder272
      @organbuilder272 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GreenFrogVideos Just AS we mention, this.... Up-converted.... You did not justify making up a meaningless, manufactured word. Can you speak proper English, a language with more than 40,000 way os saying what you want to a precise degree. How about saying that you made copies of the original using high definition scanners and digital equipment. This enabled you to achieve 1080 lines of definition. In addition the footage has been corrected for color balance, acuity, brightness and contrast. The result is a noticeable improvement. But, you would prefer to use buzz words, meaningless though they may be, not once but twice. Jargon is still jargon.
