I remember that year well, wasn't easy saying goodbye to either Burlington Northern or Santa Fe as independent entities, but the alternative could have been much worse, they could have joined the ranks of SP and C&NW being absorbed into Union Pacific.

The Warbonnet GE 8-40 B's roared by my house with timed freights to and from Chicago. They were doing 80 mph.
The Warbonnet B40-8W are my all time favorite. Some of the EMD's were smoking more than the GE's
