“Save Me” was released on May 2, 2016, and appears as the eleventh track of CD 1 in BTS’ first compilation album, “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever.
This song and its melodious beat hit us like a ton of bricks when we first heard it (during BTS’ 2022 Busan Concert), and it is now our TOP favorite OT7 song.

this is one of my all time favorite BTS songs, it released a day before I was hospitalized. Before they had to take me, I hid in the bathroom and listened to this song again just to have it in my head (as i had only heard this song a few times before since it had just come out). I constantly hummed the song to myself to calm myself and because I had no access to music or a phone through my hospitalization which lasted about a week. Made it all the more impactful when I’m Fine came out a few years later, And i was happier, healthier and alive. Appreciate y’all always 💜 thanks for listening (to the song, to us, and to me lol)

Save Me and I'm Fine really are twins in order to understand one, you need to know the other. There's a reason they're performed back to back and the transition between the two is flawless. While save me is like longing for someone to come back in order to save you from sadness, kind of like a letter to the other person, I'm fine is like recovering from the sadness and saying "I'm going to be okay." Also if you look closely at the choreography even though it starts with Jimin alone on the stage and by the chorus all seven of them are there together, and at the very end even talk they fall, THEY FALL TOGETHER. It shows that they're not alone while going through this hard time and neither are we, there are people in this world who will stay by our sides in hard times and even fall with us only to help build us back up. There's just as much meaning in the choreography as in the lyrics. One of their albums is called You Never Walk alone, I thought I should mention that after you told us about your tattoos.
“The moon shines brighter today, the empty space in my memory” I’m pretty sure Suga is talking about his past experiences with depression here. I like what you all said about the moon shining in the dark. If the moon is shining extra bright tonight, it could be that I’m in the darkest place I’ve been (therefore letting the moon shine). The more darkness, the more the moon and stars shine.

‘Save Me’ is a heartfelt song about how someone’s love can go a long way in saving a person from the depths of darkness. It expresses the desire to win the affections of someone you love. The lyrics are smooth and capture the overall feel of the song. The music is sweet with a sober feel to it.
There are many theories but there is one theory I can relate. It is an example of how those seven boys not give up but they want to be saved. This song came out when they were going through a really difficult time in their careers, it was before they released Blood, Sweat & Tears, which can be considered the song (and album, Wings) that changed it all. Before that, they had been in a limbo. I NEED U gave them a push our of the darkness, but they were still lost and suffering. SAVE ME is a cry for help. They ask ARMY to help them but they also thank us for being there for them.
The other theory comes from it being connected with I’m Fine (which was released years later) lyrically, thematically and musically. I’m Fine is an answer to SAVE ME in many ways and, with the context of the Love Yourself trilogy, it can show a toxic love where the singer doesn’t love themselves and think they need to be saved by their loved one. Let's take a look at what they've become from what they were through the lyrics.
The first lyric of Save Me:
"I want to breathe, I hate this night
I want to wake up, I hate this night,
I am trapped inside myself and I'm dead
don't wanna be lonely, just wanna be yours"
From these lyrics we can obviously tell that they're going through a very hard time. It talks about darkness and what sounds like depression, but they still talk about wanting to belong to someone.
The first lyric of I'm Fine:
"I open my eyes under the cold blue sky
the pouring sunlight makes me dizzy
I lose my breath and my heart pounds
I can easily feel that I'm alive"
The first three lyrics were kinda misleading but it shows that they wake up just like they do in Save Me, but this time, they don't feel lonely or broken, but feel "alive"
The second lyric of Save Me:
"Why is so dark where you aren't here
it’s dangerous of how wrecked I am
Save me cuz I can't get a grip on myself"
Seeing these anyone can tell how depressed they are that their loved one is far away from them, that they feel so empty and nothing’s making sense.
The second lyric of I'm Fine:
"it's okay even if its not us
even if sadness erases me
even if the black clouds cover
even if I am in an endless dream"
See the transition? From going to "I need you here or I can't breathe" To "it's ok if you're not here", showing how much they've grown up to not feel broken anymore. They no longer need the one they love in order to breathe, they’re fine by themselves.
The third lyric of Save Me:
"Listen to my heart beat, it's calls for you whenever it wants to"
The third lyric of I'm Fine:
"my cold heart forgot how to call you anymore"
Pretty self explanatory, it's like they’re trying to tell that before they were so dependent on their loved one that their heart would long for them all the time, but now as time passed they've forgotten how to long for them anymore.
The fourth lyric of of Save Me:
"Gimme your hand, save me save me
I need your love before I fall, fall"
They tell us that they're too broken, and they need their partner’s help to stand up or they'll wreck completely.
The fourth lyric of I'm Fine:
"I'm feeling just fine, fine, fine
I'll let go of your hand now"
They went from how they were too broken and needed their loved one for support to how they've grown up and can let go of their hand and still be strong.
(also another thing I noticed, in SAVE ME, they were just repeating the same words "save me save me”, as if they were already too broken to not process anything else, but now they say "I'm fine, I'm not gonna be sad anymore”, showing that they have a new vision, they have gained strength to not be bothered about this)
The fifth lyric of Save Me:
"today they black moon shines brighter
in the blank spot on my memories
it swallowed me, this lunatic
please save me tonight"
Too broken to process anything, way too caught up in the belief of "I need you only to save me" that this thought ate them up and now they're acting on it forever.
The fifth lyric of I'm Fine:
"I'm so fine, your so fine
all sorrows and wounds
now that they've become memories
let's send them away with a smile"
One common theme, memories. Before all their memories were the ones with their loved one and they were too broken to remember them, but now all of the sorrow that they had when remembering their loved one became a memory itself and they have now made new ones, letting them go to the past with a smile. They have recognised that this love was toxic but that they can still remember it with a smile.
The sixth lyric of Save Me:
"I know that your salvation is a part of my life and the only helping hand that will embrace my pain"
The only one they see when so many people ask to help them is, the one they lost, they think the only one who can save them is their partner only.
The sixth lyric of I'm Fine:
"I'm just fine, all my pain I can overcome it by myself without you"
They no longer need another person to save them, they know themselves better now to be able to protect and save themselves.
The seventh lyric of Save Me:
"I'm scared of this dream, gimme your hand save me save me"
Again, too broken to process anything and blinded by the other’s love to be in this state when they’re gone.
The seventh lyric of I'm Fine:
"I'm not afraid anymore, I'm fine fine fine"
Now they can see clearly to not be affected when the other isn't there, they're no longer afraid if the pain, but can now help themselves
The last lyric of Save Me:
"Gimme your hand save me save me, I need your love before I fall, fall"
I'm not gonna explain this because it’d be repetitive and has been explained before .
The last lyric of I'm Fine:
"even if I fall again, I'm ok, I'm fine"
They know how to pick themselves up, they don't need their other to be there for them all the time, cuz now they have been awoken, can see the real world, and can deal with it themselves.
The lyrics mirror themselves beautifully.

Save ME: For breaking when I was being suffocated/boxed in. For waking me from a dream which was all I was living in.

I’m Fine: Even if sadness erases me.

I’m Fine was released as part of the Love Yourself trilogy in their third instalment, Love Yourself: Answer which deals with the realisation that true love comes only after learning to love oneself. That album is, in turn an answer (ha!) to the previous two albums in the series:
Love Yourself: Her - A love that seems perfect, nearly serendipitous
Love Yourself: Tear - Where the cracks starts to show and the relationship breaks
I’m Fine means that you have realised you’re strong enough now to love yourself and, finally, love someone in return. You’re no longer in the dark.
Suga's verse is his reference to his past experiences with Depression where at one point he even had a thought of ending his life... So "moonlight shining brightly tonight" could be him saying his future is empty and this day everything can end but he also immediately says this is lunatic night where he's getting consumed by this crazy childish thoughts... quote on quote "Childish Lunacy"...So in conclusion please save me tonight could be him being afraid and seeking help to stop himself from these thoughts where every night becomes harder to pass...Yoongi is my all time bias and has motivated me in many ways I personally sympathise with his struggle 💜💜💜
So, for Suga's verse he's playing with the etymology of "moon" as the Latin for moon was "luna" from which the words "lunatic" & "lunacy" are derived bc it was believed that the moon phases caused insanity in people sensitive to its changes (also where the werewolf legends came from). Here, Suga is using this as a metaphor for his boughts with depression, social anxiety, & OCD.
"The moon shines brighter today" (my anxiety/depression is worse today)
"The empty space in my memory" (I've forgotten myself, or forgotten what's important/unable to care - memory loss is an extremely common symptom of depression)
"The lunatic that swallowed me" (the brighter than normal moon (depression/anxiety) has swallowed him up & he knows how crazy (lunatic) it is but he can't save himself from himself so he pleads...)
"Please save me tonight, Tonight that will save me from childish lunacy" (the night, this night will help me turn away from the lunacy brought on by the brighter moon & help me leave behind what I know is childish lunacy).
That's my interpretation. I also believe the "night" he's referring to is ARMY bc they've always referred to us as the galaxy, the starry night sky, etc but never the moon mentioned in reference to ARMY.

In Suga’s part, he talks about the lunatic. The word lunatic comes from lunar which is of the moon. So, he’s talking about being a lunatic when the moon is shining bright. Lunatics are influenced by the full moon.

Its a shame that the western industry and award shows never gave them a chance. They have such beautiful and detailed music videos, every music video is a masterpiece, they couldve won a ton of awards if the industry wasnt so xenophobhic. But they finally got a nomination for best music video for their "Proof" title song Yet to come this year and I couldnt be more proud. Hope the industry treats them better in future. The true genius in Save Me and I'm Fine lies in all the reversals: The same key notes but in reverse, corresponding lyrics in RM's verse (read top to bottom in Save Me, bottom to top in I'm Fine), reversed order of the rap line, choreography that goes from individual to interactive and so on... This is pure musical intelligence on a higher level! 💜
One thing that I think is cool about I’m fine is that the chord progression is the same as in save me, but reversed, and the some of the lyrics are same but reversed. It’s really kind of genius. Maybe there are other bands that do stuff like this, but I’ve never heard of it.

I’ve seen individual live times for Suga and Jimin (I’m sure the others did it too but I haven’t seen them).
Looking straight into the camera, Jimin was in a suit and tie with his hands folded on the table. His message was about you being lonely, sad, etc. Know that there is someone in Korea who is thinking of you, sending you love, etc.
Suga’s message was just as intense and caring.

Since you like save me so much I think you would love young forever ! It has the same laid back vibe with a strong message. Young forever always makes me aware of the passing of time and that we all age and change but it also frees me from the fear of time, from the fear of missing out promising that I still have so much more energy in me that I will never loose my youthfull soul.

I feel like Suga's part was talking about how we often get haunted by our past memories during the night. The moon looks brighter because his memory feels darker in the night. It also feels like he was playing with the word "luna" for "lunatic", with the part "moon". because the word "luna" also means "moon".
RM's part seems like a thank you letter to ARMY. especially with the part "thank you for becoming 'us'" = because we're in this together.
Save Me is one of me favourite song from them. You're right about how it makes you feel hopeful. the song has deep lyrics talking about depression and loneliness, but there's hope in it because of the beat and parts of the lyrics that talk about reaching out and being there to fill the void.

Very random suggestion - there's a game called BTS World and it has a whole dedicated album with subunits, collab and theme soundtracks. You might just love it. It will something completely unexpected. It's main OST is Heartbeat followed be three subunit songs.

RM aka Kim Namjoon of BTS just released his new solo album INDIGO! Please give it a listen the features are crazy and the lyricism of RM is so vibrant and insightful to what he’s learned and experienced during his 20s. Indigo is a must. Features Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, Mahalia and many other greats of Korean Music too. I love this genuine reaction to BTS from both of you. I am a lyrics lover where I started listening to BTS because of the beauty of their song lyrics. So, I must suggest WHALIEN 52. A song that tells about them as 52 hertz whales and their hardships back then, but also emphasizes the desire not to give up, to always be positive and always believe in themselves. It's really caught to the abyss of my heart. This song has become a highlight for BTS as they have a whale pictured with them in the song We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal, the new song Dreamers, also in their TinyTAN animation and more. People might just see it as 'Oh there's a whale in this video', but actually the whale has the deepest meaning for BTS and ARMY. So, before you found out the whale in any BTS video, listening to WHALIEN 52 is a must. This song always has a special place in my heart, which reminds me about accepting myself as I am and that it's okay to not succeed in one attempt, we can always try again, and if we fail, we fail in success because true success is not success in things we do, but true success is our success in never giving up and trying our best in everything. 2015-2017 годы были тяжелыми для BTS - гонения на группу со стороны СМИ, фанатов других групп не прекращались. Ребята пытались утвердиться и доказать свою значимость, хотя было и отчаяние , что отразилось в их дискографии. Поэтому их практически единственной поддержкой были АРМИ, которые протянули им руки и пошли вперед вместе.

From the first moment I heard SAVE ME, I was just taken to another dimension. Until this day, it’s one of my favorite BTS songs, and I LOVE hearing the different versions of it.
You guys hit the nail in describing SAVE ME, it’s a song that just hits no matter what mood you’re in.
P.S I listen to SAVE ME quite often, but I haven’t in the past few days, but now Im going to go listen to SAVE ME on repeat for the next few weeks 😂😂

The dance style here has a bit of House style (a movement created in Chicago). It's already a very physically challenging genre and the fact that they pulled off the foot work and bounce on wet dirt makes me respect their dedication even more. I didn't know they did this in one take, learn something knew everyday on this channel!

This song is in my top 3 of all time fav BTS songs as when ever someone asks me what is one of my fav songs I say this one and I never skip it when it comes on my spotify pls list.
Also the MV is so beautiful and I still can't believe it was all shot in one shot, the lyrics themselves are beautiful and the vocals are amassing and on point like always and I love how the raps are exactly raps but more talking raps.

My notes from what I understood from Suga's part:
-Lunacy is literally insanity caused by the moon. He is calling himself a lunatic for feeling like he's losing his mind or being driven crazy by the presence of the moon.
-He is stating that the place in his mind where he has blocked out and has no memory(the blank spot) is having the light shown in it, a light that is doing nothing but driving him crazy when he is stuck in this memory. The moon is not his savior, but instead the light in the darkness that he doesn't want. Those memories are blocked for a reason and it is trying to bring them to light.
-Suga is asking the "you" in this song to pull him away from this moon and later, RM mentions that the "you" is the sun... so it feels to me like the moon is NOT a good thing in their minds. They are wishing for the sun to come and save them instead of the moon bringing to light the darkness they want to hide. But the sun brings the next day and the "save" they want.
Jin's birthday is around the corner!!! Please please please do a reaction video to epiphany and awake !!! His vocals are straight from the heaven!!! Heavenly is the only word you could define his voice as !!! Epiphany is my all time favourite of jin's!! 💜

Save me is my favorite song and video! So often music videos, esp kpop videos, have over the top outfits, aesthetic, but this was just so raw and simple

This is my favorite song, not gonna lie. Also, when you asked "What was the guy holding/doing?" he was holding an umbrella and keeping time.
In Sugas part Theres also the connection between the line "the moon shines brighter today..." and the next lines mention "the lunatic that swallowed me". He mentions lunacy at the end of his bar as well. If you take in that section all together it reads to me that the moon is a representation of the feeling of unease (or lunacy) that swallowed him. I.E. the moon shining brighter isnt a good feeling. Luna is another word for moon and there are myths about the full moon causing emotional shifts in people. (For example, they wish people who work in hospitals an extra good luck on full moons because people supposedly get hurt more during full moons.) This is one of the basis of the legend of the werewolf but I don't think that's important for the line.
All in all a lot of bars arent going to make sense just read as one line, but if you look at the whole section you can extrapilate the meaning

the ambigram went viral years ago. someone, who struggled with their mental health, got it tattooed. maybe you’ve come across it before. it’s not a bts original, they ambigram was an inspiration for the songs save me/i‘m fine.
I just googled it. Her name is Bekah Miles and her pictures of the tattoo went viral on 2015. She was struggling with depression and shared her tattoo so people would have the courage to talk about it. When she reads it, it says „Save Me“, while when others read it, it looks like „I‘m fine“. You could say that tattoo means: while you seem fine to everyone, they might not know you’re battling your own demons.

My all time favorite BTS song is 'Spring Day'. The meaning behind the video and lyrics are filled with depth. The dance is beautiful too. I hope you listen to this special gem...That or the hidden album track 'Sea'.

And RM is such an amazing intellect that “I’m fine” is both a concept reply to “save me”, but also stanzas are mirror images. This called a chiastic structure seen in poetry. Their albums track in concept start to finish and from one to the next. You could make analysis of BTS a full time job. I am one of many “army mothers” meaning I have children their age.
the fonts they used for the words "SAVE ME" will appear as "I'M FINE" when inverted. and Save Me and I'm Fine's lyrics are parallel to each other that when you invert the lyrics of Save Me, it will answer to the lyrics of I'm Fine. mind blowing.

My comment was speaking to Jared and Jordan as they continue to watch other music videos (mv) that came prior to and after save me since much of BTS lyrics and mv are connected. I did not tease to other resources. I'm very active on their TH-cam and Patreon so I mentioned their last analysis of songs as they often will ask questions about certain references. As they are trying to go in order of songs, I limit my comments until they get to a certain song. The lyrics analysis was referencing when they analyze lyrics on their reactions on TH-cam and Patreon
Regarding the chat reference, if you watch their video as soon as it premieres, there is a live chat which is what I referenced in chatting with J & J and other Army.

i kind of interpreted (not a professional army opinion, just my POV) suga's verse like this:
suga's words in that verse are like observations or simple statements about himself and the surrounding world. perhaps the moon shines brighter because it has a hopeful message: 'i recognize and see your pain'.
On one hand, the empty space of memories may refer to a brain's defense mechanism, where the brain does not show painful memories to protect the person's mental stability. On the other hand, a blank space of memories could refer to the fact that the memory is no longer "accessible" because it can't be repeated in real life if the person in the memory is gone.

Also the brighter moon can be a little more literal and just be referencing the full moon. Many people strggle with insomnia particularly during full moons. Or simply feel more nostalgic or more dramatic than usual during a full moon than in their regular life.
