Story progression across the Love Yourself series:
Serendipity (Jimin) - discovering / falling in love
Euphoria (JK)- being madly in love, irrationality
Singularity (V) - the love unravels, followed by heartbreak
Epiphany (Jin) - realizing that the one you should love is you
now im crying because I had never realized that. I always realized the storyline between the that series of albums but like- not the solo songs. Like _Her_ being about new love, _Tear_ being about that love turning into something darker and more toxic, and then _Answer_ being the realization of "Oh, it's more important that I love myself over others" and to like not lose oneself.

I'm fluent in 3 languages and I still struggle to find words to accurately describe how I feel when I watch him perform. It's not just his talent, it's his aura, his presence. There's something so otherworldly about him. Jimin makes me believe in magic.
Just an extra note on the lyrics I want to add;
Penicillin (the blue mould that led to creation of antibiotics) was discovered by chance, when Fleming came back from vacation to find this mould growing. So you could say it was a serendipitous discovery!
Also for calico cats, most of them are female making male calico cats super rare (1 in 3000). So it could also be Jimin describing himself as a male calico cat, again making this meeting between the two people as special and rare.
I think it's fascinating the kind of metaphors that RM includes to emphasize the special nature of the relationship.

Fun fact: Shawn stockman of boys 2 men went to a BTS concert for the first time heard serendipity and fell in love with it so much that he went on insta live and learnt an sang the song immediately after the concert. Serendipity is my all time favourite jimin solo nothing will ever top it for me 💜💜

Jimin is my bias, one of the reasons is his angelic voice. It's really soothing...

There's a reason he is dubbed ANGEL in the vocal line. There's a reason he captures every person who listens and sees him. His dance and skills are just HIS. There's no comparison to others because he's himself. His voice is himself. He's original. He's just not tryna do stuff like others. He sticks to his originality.
Jimin was the one that took me down the rabbit hole. The reason I picked up contemporary dance. A lyrical wonder. My bias. He sings and dances to songs that make me feel the most (rivaling Yoongi as my wrecker). I literally spoke the translation of Serendipity as a skit as a final performance in front of a theatre class in college. I feel his message of movement and voice so much it shakes my artistic core daily. Truly, Park Jimin is a true inspiration to me.

Serendipity has always been my comfort song. Whenever I got really anxious in college I would sit and play the song with headphones on and only pay attention to Jimin's voice. It's also just lyrically beautiful which is why Namjoon and Jimin are my biases. This song is also known to make babies stop crying (I'm not even joking look it up lol) I was lucky enough to see it performed live once and it forever in my mind is one of my favorite live performances from a member.
I actually didn't take this as a typical love song but think it's a song about self-love, where Jimin is talking to himself, and he is referring to himself throughout the song, not about someone else and not "just another love song". As it's a part of the Love Yourself series I assumed it was about learning to love yourself, RM also said Serendipity was part of the development stage in loving yourself. And the song points out that even though Jimin realises the importance of loving himself, he is struggling to do so. He see's himself as flawed and not good enough and it's a challenge to accept his flaws, and even though Jimin wants to love himself these "flaws" are making it hard to do so. But he is supposed to be where he is and who he is, he does deserve it and he needs to learn to accept that and allow himself to love himself.
I love this song. I even got a tattoo because this song just means so much to me. Every time I watch the performance I just cry happy tears. Never fails. I was extremely blessed to see it live at LY:SY 2019💜💜

I believe the line about 'destiny being jealous of us' means that 'we' are so set in stone, so certainly meant for each other that destiny itself WISHES it could be as sure. I saw ull be very impressed with Jimins dancing 😀😀 Jimin has extraordinary core strength. There are a couple of clips of him showcasing this. You wil find them if you look for it. At one of the concerts he went down on his haunches on one leg til almost ground level and then just raised himself up with no effort at all! Another is when they all tried stepping over an invisible box challenge and he was the only one who did it flawlessly. I had a feeling that Serendipity would make an appearance for Jimin's birthday. The entire song is so beautiful and it feels magical to see Jimin perform it live. His solo work has very intricate and still very powerful choreography that seems like it would be very difficult to perform if you don't have a lot of experience dancing. The whole song is talking about the excitement of a new relationship starting. I think the line "destiny was jealous of us" might hint at even though they were destined to meet and have this relationship, they didn't know that it was just as possible that the relationship wasn't destined to last forever like they might be thinking in the moment. I love that Jimin's smiling the whole performance. Happy Birthday Jimin!!
Ah, the end reminded me - for a few months earlier this year, I had to fly quite a bit. Never had issues until recently where I'm ready to meltdown during take off. So, so anxious. It wss bad. My seat mates would notice and it was so embarrassing. I started plugging my ears with my ear buds and played this on repeat ( also People by Agust D thrown in at times) from the runway until we were up in the air and steady. Sometimes it was 7-8 times in a row. It was literally the only thing that got me through take off without bursting into tears. It just never, ever gets old for me. Any time I start to feel that way, this song can make things feel just a little less heavy. And sometimes that's all I need. 💜 Park Jimin does it again!

JIMIN es un artista sensacional, especial y distinto, sus bailes y su voz hace lo que sea un gran artista.
Intro: Serendipity is an expression of Jimin’s love for another being but the means of forming and describing that love is paradoxical. If one examines the entirety of the lyrics, they contrast each other at different points. Serendipity is used to describe Jimin’s and his partner’s love that implies their love occurred by random chance. Whereas some of the lyrics express the opposite, that their love was destined and was meant to be since the beginning of time. Integrating these notions together, their love can be construed as a beautiful paradox; a destined serendipity or a serendipitous destiny. In other words, Jimin and his partner were destined to have a happy “accidental” meeting, or it may mean the other way around, that their happy accidental meeting became their “destiny”.
This song’s entire (soul-crushingly beautiful and painful) song is centred squarely on the concept of Destiny. In the opening lyrics of the song, Jimin says:
“All this is no coincidence”
The song also contains the following lyrics related to this concept:
“Maybe it’s the providence of the universe”
“Because destiny keeps getting jealous of us”
“The universe has moved for us Without missing a single thing Because our happiness has been planned Cause you love me, and I love you”
“Since the creation of the universe Everything was destined” The lyrics mention things that have a serendipitous background such as Penicillin and Calico cat. Both of which came into existence by rare occurrences and pure random chance. It also talks about destiny itself and its personification of it supports their love as serendipitous rather than destined.

Penicillin is an antibiotic used to treat and or to prevent a variety of bacterial infections. Penicillin was discovered by Fleming in the 1920’s without the intention of developing a life-saving drug. He randomly discovered that his culture of blue mold. This has been widely explored by many ARMY fans before me and I agree that it is simply the concept that Jimin’s lover is his medicine, his Penicillin, “saving me” from… something.
I also found two interesting facts about Penicillin. Penicillin can:
* be dangerous; and
* cause Euphoria*. Source [1], Source [2]
Now, just a disclaimer, Euphoria is not a common side effect of Penicillin, and I hesitated to draw the link to it. But, it did for one second make my jaw drop because you never know with BTS.
Calico cats are mostly female due to genetics, meaning that male Calico cats are rare; and they are “sweet, loving and loyal cats. If you hunger for unconditional love, a calico cat will willingly and enthusiastically fulfil that need”. See source here. Jimin sings that he is a male Calico cat, one of the “rare [special] things you find in life”. In the lyrics he sings that he exists for his love, that destiny made him special for his lover.
Serendipity speaks of an idealised love, a love that feels destined and ideal. If one analyses it taking the theme of the Love Yourself series into consideration (and how the Intro version belongs to LY: Her), it still speaks of love before it turns toxic. All the solo songs from the LY series are interlocked, from the video performances "BTS Special”, the LY tour or "BTS 2018 Daechukjae special", if we take note the order that they performed, we get this order.

7. "Epiphany" (Jin solo) - The realization that before you can love others, you must first learn to love yourself. "Shining me, precious soul of mine... not so perfect but so beautiful." "Im the one I should love"

Love Yourself: Tear - Where the cracks starts to show and the relationship breaks
Love Yourself: Answer - The realization that true love comes only after learning to love oneself
In summary, I believe the meaning behind Serendipity is: a pure form of love before it becomes tainted. The lyrics are mature and poetic and, since the lyrics are gender neutral, we are not talking about a ‘he’, ‘she’ or a particular person, it’s just talking about a soul mate, a significant other. That’s the beauty of the song, it’s applies all of us. The lyrics are universal, because love has no limits, and can surpass any boundaries if it’s pure and true.
