As a Korean...I looked back why this song couldnt be more popular as much as it deserves....i think it has too heavy topic to digest to us. They touched something we faced but didnt want to mention in our society because we even dont know the solution of that matter. BTS is brave and from the begining, they are not just a pretty singing idol.

I am Arabic Muslim girl and when I fell in this rabbit hole a month ago I wondered!! How Korean react to their art !! They sending a power message that reshape a whole generation!!! All their song bapsiea , spine breaker , no , no more dreams , spring day.and black swan..they make art ..with a wonderful language!! How Korean not seeing that and give them all that hardship issue !! The are making a history!! Why not appreciate from their own people!! That break my heart ..specially when they using their own culture and spread it to the world !

yes sorry to say but some people in korea thinks that bts is overrated . but dude they deserve everything . specially korean media they never shows bts acheivments that much they are kinda ignoring bts . specially when i heard korean native speak about that bts should go for miliatry service i'm not saying they shoudn't its your country's matter i wont say anything but . i didn't like they way they were saying . because they not only helping to expand korean culture but also contributing a lot in korean gdp . today everyone knows korea just because of them and thats the sad realty but some people just dont wont to recognize what they did for them and what they are doing . but i'm glad they have a pretty much army population in korea too who stan bts . I'm not a Korean but I am Asian and I was friends with many Koreans, when this song came out it was incredibly brave and quite shocking thay BTS released this, especially only 3 months after debut as it dealt with a very big social problem that Korea (and many other places) have. Anyway, my friends said that the lyrics really touched them because it was like someone else had suddenly spoken out about the problems they are having and that most students were feeling or facing. It just goes to show that BTS's lyrics have always resonated with so many people because they are true to themselves. 💜

when they sing the lyrics "in Seoul to the SKY", SKY refers to the 3 top universities in seoul. S stands for Seoul National University, K for Korea University and Y for Yonsei University. the abbreviation SKY is very commonly used in South Korea when refering to these schools.

Although I’m OT7, the rapline holds a special place in my heart. Here’s how I would describe them: RM has this big commanding voice that demands respect. Even when he goes soft, he sounds like a father comforting his child. J-hope brings a very upbeat energy to his rap with an almost rhythmic singing tone. Makes you happy just listening and looking at him. Suga’s flow and cadence are very poetic. There’s a rawness of emotion in his voice that even if you don’t understand what he’s saying, you can feel it. I like to think RM represents the brain, J-hope the heart and Suga the soul of a song.

RM is my bias and part of the reason is because how powerful he is. He has been through so much at a young age as a member and leader. He has struggled with self image and understanding and loving himself in a way that is so heartbreaking and yet relatable. I think I saw an interview where he changed the questions when he translated them to avoid distressing the other members. I cannot imagine the mental burden on the all over the last few years but especially RM. And just wait until you get to the UN speech! That cemented him as my bias. Love all 7 but he has a special place in my heart.

He is my bias as well. Jin even said that RM is BTS itself in Bangtan Grammy’s and Suga even give a shoutout that without RM it is unlikely they will hit it big in US (things change dramatically after they won BBMA). I watched hip hop critics said if you truly understand hip hop (and remove the language barrier) then you will know that RM is hip hop in a person. His lyrics and production skills are insane, 6/10 songs he wrote are ranked at top 10 Billboard charts.

I first saw RM in Jack Edwards' YT channel, read Joon's recommendations (Almond, and Orwell's 1984) through Jack and fell in love with the books and with him. I actually read every book that RM had read, love him first, before I get to love his members. It was my gateway to bts, and i'm grateful I had found all 7. love them so much

Imagine BTS as a building. What do we need to enter a building? A door. A door has to be tall, spacious, and sturdy, at the same time painted in beautiful or comforting colors, with intricate designs on the surface and a complex "personality". A door has to have that vibe - inviting, attractive, mysterious even, but also making you know you will be embraced and welcomed if you step inside the building.
This has to be the most awkward comparison and compliment anyone has given to RM, yet I hope I illustrated my point well.

i'm so excited. honestly, this song has one of the most unterrated bts performaces ever in my opinion. they performed it on mama2019 and the swag was so present. the "we roll, we roll" part is perfect. I love how good it sounds and this part has my fav part in the choreo. may look simple but it's too cool. i love how it looked with their fits in the mama2019 performance (they also performed bulletproof pt.2 there) so maybe check that one out.

This song is iconic and was so ahead of its time. I think that's why it was so underrated even though the song is one that means quite a lot to 2013-2014 ARMYs. On the year of its release, there were not many artists or musicians who were so vocal or brave enough to touch this kind of topics (basically about anything that talks about changing the system) because politics in SK were so different then. I hope you'll get to react to their mama2019 performance because they performed this song again after a long time. oh, and the boys usually pronounce the song as "N.O"

22:50 I believe they’re in the heart & mind. When they consume what society instils in them, their heart & mind turns bloody. Turns red, warning sign, heated up, hurt and flaming. And at 16:06 after they’ve fought the guards and came down the stairs which indicates “let me go through this journey myself” and reached to the front, once again they said “Everybody say NO,” and the heart & mind TURNED WHITE! To me it shows liberation, calming down, freedom and honesty to oneself. Love that they always have layers of meanings & messages in sensory form including visuals, sound, literature, colors & emotions they’re showing.
Also, Jungkook is rapping here too together with rapline. The part hits me the most indeed when Jungkook said “Dream is gone.. No time to breathe..” NGL i still get teary eyes imagining that’s what the youth feels. Amazing how this song still soooooo relevant in the society now especially in South Korea. You may need to watch Sky Castle (Kdrama) to understand how depressing the schooling system is currently in South Korea.
Can’t imagine not being an ARMY if we are a thinker. Like your good selves brothers! Always enjoyed your reviews and conversations. Please do video conference with some ARMY to discuss some topics relating to BTS’ messages and society. Would be a great content. hi, i don’t know if you’re ever going to read this, but i’d like to share my story as well. I’m 15, pretty young, started following them even younger. I basically grew up with them since my sibling used to listen their music and share their content with me sometimes. It’s been almost 5 years now, they helped me back then, but they helped me even more now. When i was 11 searching for their content i didn’t really know english that well since it isn’t my first language, i think i learned more english watching their videos with eng subs than in school. But, recently (almost a year ago) i got diagnosed with cancer, it’s nothing that serious (it’s not deadly if treated quickly) but it completely destroyed my life. I lost my first year of high school, which i think is a pretty important part of life. The tumor was in my leg, i had to have a surgery to remove it, so you could guess that i can’t walk anymore, not yet at least. I had to go through almost 9 months of chemo therapy, which had a lot of impact in my life. I lost my hair, lost weight (14kg), was feeling sick everyday, a lot nausea and headaches and other symptoms like these. The cancer cells are no longer in my leg, and i’m free of chemo therapy (had my last cycle last week) but i still can’t walk, and won’t for at least another year. During this time i couldn’t meet up with anyone because i was too fragile (considering that covid was still going around a lot, i even got it and had to go through a cycle of chemo therapy while i had it) and i felt extremely lonely. So to keep me company i watched their videos again and again, even if i already watched them, like they were some friends that came to see me. I also have big problems with my phobia of the dark and anxiety, so sleeping at night is kinda difficult for me, you could say i have a slight insomnia. To sleep i listen to their music, or just listen to them talk. i don’t understand, but i feel less lonely and scared. They inspired me a lot, thanks to them i know the kind of person i want to be when i grow up, they showed me that there’s a reason i shouldn’t give up even in a situation like mine. And they thought me to love myself.
If you ever read this, thank you, i hope the best for your journey. Keep showing them love, they truly deserve it💜

Same with Taehyung. It's Taehyung's voice that introduce me to BTS. It's his song winter bear that changed my whole life.

Hey guys, love this reaction!! N.O is one of my favorite songs from this album. So to touch on the Matrix, even tho I saw it some 20 odd years ago, I never understood it lol.
This song touches on the immense pressure young people experience in society to follow strict discipline to study and be successful in education and life in general. This is what makes BTS stand out, they talk about issues not usually found in music.
Jordan, RM is also my bias, although V is who reeled me in, Suga is my bias wrecker. But regardless OT7!

As a fellow early RM bias you should really listen to Joke, Do You, Monster, and Throw Away 😊. For sure you will enjoy and relate to alot of what he says! He is so intelligent and his wordplay is NEXT level! To be clear these are his solo works from his mixtape. Suga is a bias wrecker for me with his solo mixtape works such as People, The Last, Agust D, Give It To Me, and the Legendary track Daechwita! Don't even get me started on Jhope! 🤣 the rhythmic way he uses his flow is out of this world! I drove 6 and a half hours to see him perform at Lollapalooza and it was worth every second! Baseline, Blueside, Piece of Peace, Hansang, Airplane, and his entire Jack In The Box album (but especially Equal Sign and What If) all of these songs from all 3 of the rap line are in my everyday play list! The vocal line is a whole nother story 😂😂😂🤣🤣 not enough time or space to say everything I want to about these Men!

Jimin did have solo parts. I think you're used to his high register that you don't recognize him his mid range vocals. Again, most times in MVs, when it's their part, even if they aren't mouthing the words, the camera is usually focused on the person singing that part.

I can relate to RM so much. Having a financially supportive background doesn't guarantee that you have it easy in life. Everyone goes through their own journey and sadness, and most often than not the inner struggles of people who seemingly have "everything" in life gets overlooked. RM writes poetry from the heart and it touches everyone. He is sensitive enough to acknowledge what people go through, irrespective of their backgrounds. And that's something I want to emulate too. #RMBiasforever

Jordan, I’m a Joon bias as well! It’s crazy because it was the same for me when I became an ARMY. First it was Yoongi who I claimed as my bias but then Namjoon came and just did something to me. I feel something EVERY time he comes on a track. Not to mention his characteristics, intelligence, just him as a person. You will have no choice but to love him more as the journey goes. Now I’m a hyung line bias (meaning all 4 of the oldest members are my biases: Joon,Suga,Jhope, and Jin)

God, he's an angel and his voice is so soothing to me. I could listen to it all day. Enjoyed your reaction!!! Thank you for reacting!!! Congratulations by the way!!!
I was a little sad the the lyrics where moved to Pateron but that is okay it was still a wonderful reaction.
Personally I relate to Suga, Jhope, and Jin the most however I love them all. Idk I just don’t want to say that I have a bias. Idk I just don’t like saying this person is my favorite because every song, moment, voice, etc. it changes in the moment. To each their own though. I have no problem if you do…
Personally I love the lyrics talking about “if money, big car/big house will bring you happiness?“ Honestly in the day and age I feel people think these bring happiness. I just don’t think that is true. I think that they might be temporary happiness or comfort but not life time happiness. It also depends on the way we live our live if we will be happy (also how we view the world too).
Another lyrics that I loved was when Suga is questioning why the world teaches us to step on one another and bad competition. It is interesting because in other companies from what I have learned it is that when they are trainees their is tons of competition and people trying to beat one another basically without helping others (stepping on each other to get where you want to be). While some people work better different ways I find it interesting that when BTS where trainees, RM encouraged everyone to help one another and grow together. I think this might actually have a big part of how BTS treat each other, their relationship with each other, and how they got to where they are today. Yes they all work hard and do their best and try and do their part. However all the members help each other and encourage one another along the way. For instance Jhope wasn’t forced into become like the “dance leader/teacher”. However Jhope stepped up and took his role to make BTS the best it can be. Same goes with the other members growing into their roles in the group. Sorry I am rambling. What I am trying to say is that we should encourage one another, be helpful, and be an example so that others can grow as well. Not only will it make you happy but would bring everyone up, instead of being in a world where we are “stepping on one another” and not caring about others failures. Idk hopefully this made sense…
Once again thanks for sharing and reacting!!!
P.S. I believe most ARMY just called this song NO. However it doesn’t really matter if you say N.O. I feel it is like their song Outro: Tear. It could be called tear (like ripping a paper) or tear (like being sad and crying 😢).
Edit: I forgot to mention I have never seen the Matrix so I am with you guys on that.

Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. The names of the albums are cute and catchy for the youth. Their target audience were adolescents remember. They were not aware that their songs would speak to all ages. I feel like BTS started a conversation with ppl and they have been talking to us for 3 albums straight about the same topic. It's mindboggling but so cool. So glad u liked this. I love this song. It's so catchy. Adore the MV too. BTS always speaks the truth. Hugs. Later's. -NY USA 2019 Army💟
    Cheyenne said on 12/2021
Just like a few people already mentioned but BTS and their albums basically grew along with the members. As you know, the members were extremely young when they first debuted and most of them were still in school and kids. Their first three albums heavily focused on the school education system, childish innocent teenage love, and struggles that the youth have to go through because the boys have experienced that sort of thing themselves. They wanted to relate and protect the youth. Once you go through more of the albums you'll notice the older they get, the more mature the themes will get and so will the messages.

I'm not Korean but I'm an Asian so these lyrics touch me as I'm going through the same. I just completed my 12th grade so the past whole year was spent studying, anything other than studying was considered as a time waste. My parents forcing me to take the "safe zone" so that I can have a job in the future but not letting me do something that I like. The other line from the song that I resonate with is "this is the only hard time, endure it" I have been hearing this line since I was a child, they say endure it now the rest will be easy but in reality it isn't easy. By enduring all that time I wasted my whole life, I regret not having fun.

The big hand statue (or u called finger) is a hand of people who play marionette puppet or puppeteer's hand (it also appeared on fake love). It's a symbolism when we get controlled by others like a doll, just like how marionette doll (because we lives in someone's dream, we do what they like and become someone that they want us to be). That why BTS asked us to say no, stop living in other's dream. Stop to get controlled like a puppet. Live ur own dream.

  • @clairefranzen5753
    @clairefranzen5753 2 ปีที่แล้ว

No More Dream was BTS asking the world "what's your dream" because around the time you're a teenager there can be a lot of pressure on you and that dream could very easily get lost. In N.O they're pretty much indirectly asking "are you happy" and empowering teenagers to stand up for their happiness instead of getting stuck inside a dream that society or even their parents have for them. RM in particular really wanted to pursue music his parents wanted him to study, get good grades, so much that they destroyed or got rid of his music equipment. He managed to become the leader of BTS and one of the smartest students in his class and the top 1% of the country. Idol agencies like to recruit their trainees at a young age and still expect them to attend school. Did you notice that they rarely smiled in this video? To me this setting looks like a classroom with a teacher who just wants them to stay out and live out a dream that was chosen for them not one they chose for themselves. I think the pill may have given them a glimpse of an alternat reality of what could happen if they stood up for themselves or if they didn't. The song Jordan was thinking of was Mirrors by Justin Timberlake, at least that's what it sounded like to me.

You should watch the Comeback Trailer for O!RUL8,2? Not only is the dance awesome but it gives you the vibe of what the album is about, which is a little redundant now that you already saw N.O but still a fun video to watch. The teasers are clips from the MVs so you don't really need to watch those but the trailers are different and sometimes they're their own songs, like how "Singularity" was technically a Comeback Trailer video but there is a full version of the song on the album. If you go to HYBE's TH-cam channel, under playlists there is a BTS playlist with all their releases in chronological order. Keep up the good work guys, "You nice, keep going!" - Jimin 💜

can u add the lyrics? a lot of people skip the lyrics of these songs, and more "MY TIME", that its not just Jungkook in black and red outfit, are his feelings and his story in the song. And is represented in the live perfomance, the being "mad" in his expressions and movements are part of the meaning (the frustration, or the feeling of cant go back in time and doing something). ):

N.O is a powerfull message for youth, specially in South Korea due to their education system, and the high coast of pressure and mental health that come with , as the Rise of Bangtan chap 3 will explain to you. But it' s valuable everywhere for young people who feel pressured and " captured in others dreams". I'm not young anymore since decades, and my country (France) is very "cool" with education (maybe because our system is free of charge, even in university ? you can try, and failed, eventually try again, without ruined financially your entire life or your parents !! ) but still, this song is relatable, because I was, as a kid and a young student, somehow trapped in my parents/family dreams. And it was not a easy thing to say "No" to those who loved me and want the best for me. Since Day 1, BTS speak for his generation, and fight against prejudices, so bravely. A lot of their early songs talk about social issues/economical or political injustices (No more dream; NO, Spine breakers; Ugh; Dope, Bepsae, Am I wrong...) . But they also talk about their own struggles and inner thoughts, doubts and failures. Their discography is meaningful, like a mementum of their growth. Threw their music and lyrics, they transcended their personal storylife and struggles, and made them universal, relatable for everybody, sharing powerful social and personnal messages. It goes far beyond the music, they touched people heart and give them hope. And that's also why Army is more than a fandom, and even a community, but quite a social mouvment triying actively to make this world a better place.
Side note : when RM sing "In seoul to the SKY" SKY is an acronym for the three most prestigious universities in South Korea - Seoul University, Korea University and Yonsei University.

Love this song. The strings along with the rap line really make the heart race - its tense but also 'aggitating' which perfectly motivates the listener.
If you listen more to the background you can hear quite a lot of Jimin making vocal sounds, they effect that release of pent up frustration. Really underrated song
