Hello, everyone! Jamie here - thought I'd post the lyrics, as well as a few notes: 1: These are the lyrics, written by the 1968 Elvis NBC-TV Special writers, that Elvis sang during the party. 2: We probably won't post a cleaner version. After seeing other channels use our audio of "Poor Man's Gold" (sometimes without saying it's A.I.), we thought it best to leave the cleanest versions of (most) future songs unreleased. This way, we have a cleaner file to play pieces of, if/when necessary, to be able to prove that these are things that we made. That's part of our way of helping make sure people can continue to know the difference between what's real and what's not. We're fans, and when we do these, we do them for fun - and since we have ways of doing this that no one else really does, it's important to us that *real* history be both separated and preserved, and we're going to do just that. If you meet someone who hears one or our A.I. works and thinks it's real, send them to this channel, and they'll know - because we'll always be up-front about it here - and if we have anything to say about it, we're going to be around a long time, and building easy-to-follow resources to keep facts at the forefront. Anyone who'd like to help us with that can visit here: www.jakmusic.net/eapsfundraiser/ 3: The version in this video was made to be like someone took a small recorder into the Colonel's birthday party, and is *roughly* the audio quality of the tape recorder used to make the real "dressing room recordings" from the '68 comeback (those recordings inspired the "sit down" segments in the special). So the audio quality you hear has historical basis. 4: Eagle-eared fans will hear the laughter of Elvis's guys in the crowd in this video - those are real. Also, some of the in-between-jokes crowd reactions are to give the idea of funny things happening that we don't get to see, which would be pretty likely in a scenario like this. 5: We fully understand that this isn't for all fans - and we're fine with that. We're not just a channel for one kind of Elvis fan, we love everybody - so some things will be more for some groups of fans, and some for others. Things like this can be a fun way for some fans to hear the general idea of what something *might* have sounded like. For fans who aren't as keen on these.. one way to look at these is that it can also be a way to draw other fans into deeper diving about Elvis, his history, and his art (via our other videos). And, much like how remixes getting new fans into Elvis, any key that brings folks in is a positive thing. Now for the lyrics: It hurts me to see the budget climb up to the sky It hurts me when Finkel gives me trouble When I see all my money go Just for one g*d d*mn old TV show It hurts me the Finkel spends my dough The whole town is talkin' They're callin' me a fool For listenin' to Binder's same ol' lies Finkel calls me, says I've got no choice Then hangs up the phone in that d*mn Rolls Royce It hurts me when my tears start to flow They promised me, sure, if I would give in That I would.. that I would.. never go wrong But tell me the truth, is it too much to ask For one lousy, tired old Christmas song?
Jamie, that was marvelous/fantastic! You sound SO MUCH like Elvis in a genuine way, not in an impersonator way (if you know what I mean). REQUEST-- Can you and John re-do the audio to where the Ai crowd noise & laughter isn't as loud? It distracted from being able to hear clearly every word that you were singing.
Oh my word...that is SENSATIONAL! I totally forget it was Ai sounded totally authentic. Deserves to go viral. Beautiful job you captured Elvis spirit and sense of fun. Thank you. 😊
Fantastic, I have been an Elvis fan for 40 odd years and I never knew of the birthday and the lyrics to the song is amazing. Thanks for giving us an opportunity to hear what it might have sounded like, I do not usually get behind AI Elvis but on this occasion it is perfectly placed. Excellent upload, thanks.
Thank you, Steven! Yeah, almost anything we do on here with A.I will have some historical basis - only one or two exceptions, which will be extremely rare! We're too focused on actual Elvis history to go creating our own, lol!
I don’t remember where but I did see. and hear this several years ago and thought at the time how great it was ( Col Parker did NOT. look very happy with it ! !
Hi, Janet! If you come across that, let us know, because we've never heard of it being taped - but would be great if someone did! And yeah, I can image Colonel wasn't incredibly thrilled, lol
@ I live in the UK but have visited Memphis nearly every year since 1984 but I don’t think I heard and saw it there If I can remember where I will let you know !
@@janetcoombes8483 Very cool, Janet! Every year since 1984.. for Elvis Week? I think that was my first year, too - maybe we saw you there (I was 4, lol)! And thank you - if you remember, definitely let us know! :)
What an absolute home run. I assume you are the one who did "Poor Man's Gold" as well. You are the KING of Elvis A.I., Jamie. Now, you gotta tackle "I Will Always Love You". The biggest "what if?" in Elvis lore.
Thank you !! And yep - that was us! And (this is Jamie) I actually recorded a version on my first album waaaay back in 2002. ( just put up a video talking about that album, actually). And we have some thoughts on "I Will Always Love You," but we'll see!
My dad watched the 68 comeback when it first aired and he says there is stuff missing from the show at one scene Elvis was singing in the jean outfit sitting down on stage singing thats not on vhs dvd or bluray
Hi, Tom! There are pictures of Elvis in the jean outfit like that from the set, but it wasn't filmed (as far as we know). I think he might be mixing the "Let Yourself Go" scene (that was in one broadcast and not another) where he's sitting down and the sit-down segments, because we've got all of the known footage that's known to exist. That happens sometimes, though - we've done the same thing at times, ourselves!
There was a nice 45 EP issued in RCA Australia which I ordered in 1984 with 4 songs from The 68 Show, including It Hurts Me and Let Yourself Go and others. The song was covered by Johnny Hallyday in France as Ca Fait Mal in 1964.
That was HILARIOUS! 😆 Sounded so real too! Man, if you hadn’t said you guys made this, I could have easily believed that you actually found a real recording of this. GREAT job, guys! 👏👍💪
Excellent Job guys. In 10 years your version will show up in some documentary as the real thing. Maybe tackle the press conference too. Keep up the great work.

It hurts me to see the budget climb up to the sky
It hurts me when Finkel gives me trouble
When I see all my money go
Just for one g*d d*mn old TV show
It hurts me the Finkel spends my dough
The whole town is talkin'
They're callin' me a fool
For listenin' to Binder's same ol' lies
Finkel calls me, says I've got no choice
Then hangs up the phone in that d*mn Rolls Royce
It hurts me when my tears start to flow
They promised me, sure, if I would give in
That I would.. that I would.. never go wrong
But tell me the truth, is it too much to ask
For one lousy, tired old Christmas song?
That is a great idea too. I was wondering about some of the words I couldn't catch.
Thanks Jamie❤
