I always thought that was Jimmy Cobb playing, cause Elvin Jones plays really pocket drum lines here. Thanks for the video Jeff! I’m a jazz drummer student, so I enjoy and I learn a lot with ur videos!❤
Great! Where do you live? We do adult jazz workshops in various places in the USA and Canada. I'd love to have you join us. Let's do some playing together!! (www.JazzWireSummit.com)
Thank you for this, this was soooo nice analysis and great inspiration. A few years later they did a kind of similar experiment with a magical version of Nature Boy: they locked the groove on a mood and Coltrane just go off on something fascinating to my ears but which I can’t understand fully. Would love an analysis of that one 👍
For sure. This was "something new" for the jazz world. Trane took us there. Certainly he was influences by other music and the music of other cultures, but he put it together.
Thanks for going over this tune! From one of my favorite Coltrane albums, "Crescent". This song and "Wise One" are such meditative pieces! My recording of "Equinox" (on alto) th-cam.com/video/00UiBK1pj-w/w-d-xo.html -- the backing track is a half-tone higher than the original, which is easier to play on alto.

Thanks Jeff 🙏🏼👌
So simple but such a choice of notes by Coltrane which put you in a transe state. Thanks a lot!
Agreed! Coltrane could take you there!!
This is amazing, learning a lot from this!
So happy you enjoyed this. Please subscribe, and come back every week for a new one.

Another great tune to cover. I'll be playing that one tonight on a gig actually . . . love it.
I think he heard it. This unique tune required this subtle side-step of orthodoxy.

YES. The original is in Db minor. For novice student I tend to play it in C minor to begin with. The key is pretty unfamiliar to most of us . . .
